Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

Oraldene is a good mouthwash Angie it doesn’t seem to strip the skin off your mouth like some do.
my wig has arrived, it’s nice and light and very soft but a bit itchy on my head, I’ve tried it with the wig cap but think it would be less itchy with my bed cap. I quite like it but I think I prefer my scarfs for everyday. The wig will be ok for an outing.

ECMF cycle 2 day 2
Hi angels
It just feels so good to type cycle 2. I t all went in and I’ve had repeat performance of cycle 1 judy despite all the changed medication. Still feel horribly sick plus heartburn. Only got 1 and a half hours sleep last night, awake by 1.30 and watched tv on tablet in bed til morning. I think that’s because of the steroids in the hospital which they didn’t finish giving me until 5pm. No chance of sleep in day as steroids are keeping me buzzing.
Let me share a bit of my bizarre hospital visit with you. Everything was going well until I got the nurse whose reputation had gone before her, you know the one, loud and scary, you hear her coming down the corridor?
Scary nurse (from other side of ward) : when did you have your line flushed?
Me( bit thrown by the share with whole packed ward thing): Wednesday.
s.n: did you have it done here?
Me : yes
Sn: why didn’t you leave it till Friday?
Me: I had to have a blood test.
Sn: well you shouldn’t have had the dressing changed on a Wednesday if you’re coming on the Friday. You should have had it flushed and left the dressing. It’ll only be on for 2 days- they’re very expensive you know, £50 for 2.
Me: Well the nurse changed it because I was having a bad skin reaction to the adhesive on the last one. It was red and sore and peeling.
s.n: Well I’m not changing it again today.
Me: but it’s coming off( because it was overlapping elbow joint)
S.N :frowning: (came across ward to look)Well I’ll give you a smaller one.
Off she went to get it, much to the whole wards entertainment- ‘ooh that told you, you naughty girl’ and wrist slapping from everyone else.
To my horror I was stuck with her then to put the epirubicin through, but she did calm down a bit and we had a nice chat about how she shouldn’t have to book appointments or order drugs. It was all going well until the subject of nausea came up, which has been my thing as you know.
s.n :well if you feel that sick it’s probably all in your mind.
Me: I’m sorry?
s.n: yes you’re probably just expecting to be sick so you are…
She then told me not to take drugs when the onc had told me to take them and moved on to some other poor sod… my sister and I laughed all the way home, repeating the whole sorry episode.
On a serious note, if I’d been having a vulnerable day I would probably have burst into tears, and I think I’m going to ask not to have her again – can you do that do you think?
Love to you all, wigs, hats and scarves, just remember your se’s are all in your mind!!!

Mel
thats so bad practice!! i hope youre going to say something, i get mine changed whenever its needed not according to how much i cost them,
my mouth is literally hanging open!!
well done you for holding it together and keeping your cool.
and since when do nurses over rule the mighty onc !! i’m flabberghasted.
sorry, i’m ranting arent i

Hi Angie
They’ve always changed them whenever I’ve had anything done to the line before, so it was a bit unexpected! I was trying not to dob the nurse in who’d changed it as well.
I was having a floating above everything day, or I wouldn’t have coped. I did wonder if she’d watered down the epirubicin to make it go further, because I’m sure that’s hideously expensive too!
Melx
Moira just checked out the youtube video- loved it especially the end, you bad girl!

Mel you’ve had the nurse from hell by the sound of it, as if,it’s not bad enough! I have been really really lucky, there’s been some lovely nurses so far. I’m like you today, I just can’t get rid of the heartburn, I’ve got really bad wind to go with it though.

Hi Ladies, another day vegging out but starting to feel a bit more human today - def need to get out the house tomorrow!!

Judy - looking good, were you always a blond?
Angie - you make me laugh, such vivid pictures you paint lol
Shona - good luck tomorrow, don’t overdo it. we’ll all be with you in spirit!
take it easy AAAs

Pauline xx

hi judy
this might sound a bit daft but have you tried a big glass of fizzy coke, it has actually worked with me before, as a last resort though, because you have the potential to make it worse wind than you have already.
loving the blonde - are you expecting to have more fun ?

Good Evening Angels,
Had a lovely day. Son and girlfriend drove up from London and OH and I met them for lunch Wentworht village - that’s north of Rotherham, not next to Windsor! Had steak pie, chips and mushy peas and could actually taste it - cider didn’t taste too good though.
I’ve been having a good laugh at some of the posts this evening. Angie, you may look like Alec Guiness but saying as I’ve kept the top stubble, I’m looking more like Wilfred Bramble playing old Steptoe. Perhaps I need a Paddington hat too. Couldn’t ask DS to shave my head. When I took my wig off in front of him for the first time he gave me the biggest, shakiest hug I’ve had from him in a long time. He’s still a mummy’s boy at 29.
Yes Judy, a kind, considerate friend did think that I needed a lesson in checking my breasts using the TLC method! Son’s girlfriend couldn’t believe what I was watching but she did laugh! She is also doing the race for life as is my next door neighbour. I might not be much use but at least I’m a catalyst.
My mouth felt a bit off this morning. I’d stopped using the strong Corsodyl because it seems to be turning my teeth yellow. But if the choice is yellow teeth or white furry tongue, then Corsodyl wins. When it runs out I’ll give Oraldene a try.
Had last ondest anti-sick this morning followed by one tiny dexa steroid. Having one dexa tomorrow and that’s it for meds. I might moan on a bit but when I read how some of you are suffering it makes me realise how fortunate I am. Hope you all get some peace and rest tonight.

hi all
not a good morning, my tongue feels like its doubled in size, throats gone wild, taste is gross, dry inside lips, sore end of tongue AGAIN, and my neck and shoulders are really painful. My mission for today is to find food that i can eat and also taste, might be tomato ketchup day!!
apart from that i’m ok haha
moira , I was born in Rotherham, are you a yorkshire lass then? The oraldene is much kinder than corsydol, i had to swap to it and its really gentle. Your lunch yesterday sounds lovely. I’m a bit hungry!
so lets see what today brings girls, hope you get good weather amber - good luck today
angie xx

Angie, Moira
i was born near Rotherham too, spent 17 happy/rebellious years there before finding the big wide world!
i am going home alone on Monday to rest on Tuesday and get cycle 3 on Wednesday. Not sure how long OH will stay here but his mum doesn’t have long so I am off to deal with chemo alone…friends are taking me to/from.
hope your mouth clears up soon Angie.
moira…boys are never anything other than mummys boys however old they are!

Hi Everyone,
Day 4 today and I’m feeling a bit more like it. Sick day one, but better than last time when I ended up in hospital for day 2 and 3. I pretty much slept through day 2 and rested yesterday. I was very sore yesterday, real achy in my back and neck to the point that I couldn’t get comfy. It was 2:00 am when I remembered Linda’s top about taking paracetemol after Neulastin. Fortunately I’m feeling better today and more with it.
Kate I’m so sorry to hear about your mum-in-law. Big hugs xx
Msmcann - Thanks for the link for heathershair. I’ve sent them an email.
Amber - good luck with both the run and round 3.
Mel - that nurse sounds terrible. I’m glad it didn’t upset you too much.
Karen - Thanks for the tips. It’s always good to hear from those of you coming out at the other end. Good luck on Tuesday. Xxx

hello all you angels,i didnt tell you much about myself as i wasnt sure i had posted correctly i think i may have mastered it now.As you can see im not too good on the computer.I was diagnosed with a grade 3 invasive carcinoma and high grade dcis her2 positive in my right breast on 12th feb,my doctor had told me it was nothing to worry about and was reluctant to send me for a mammogram.I had a mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 7th march. No problems from this and nodes were clear.I will now have 6 sessions of fect and 14 sessions of herceptin. My 1st fec was on 22nd april and my next one is on tuesday 14th may.S/e from 1st session were pretty bad for 1st 8 days then on day 9 felt like a human being again so not 2 bad just very scary.Shed a few tears today as had been keeping hold of quite a bit of hair but had a shower today an the whole lot came out making me look about 96 upset me more than losing my breast.Oh well enough of feeling sorry for myself at least im 60 and don`t have little ones to look after like some of you angels do.Hats off to you all i think you are all wonderfull and will be sharing a lot more with you as soon as my daughter teaches me how to use this site better than i am doing.Lots of love to you all. barb xx

Has anyone experienced nerve pain as an se? The back of my neck and shoulders are really tender and sore to touch at the moment. I don’t remember that happening last time.

Hi Mel A, not so much nerve pain but painful arm where the chemo went in. It hurt at the time and still very tender!

Hello Angels,
It was lovely to get a post from Karen from the Valentines. When I was first dx I read the Val’s posts and I do believe it was Karen who started it. So Karen, if it wasn’t for you, I probably wouldn’t have been contributing here myself! Well done on getting to almost the end Karen. It doesn’t seem that long since the Vals were staring out!
Sorry Angie and Kate, although I’ve lived in West Yorkshire for 35 years, I started of in the North East and still have my Geordie accent and am really pleased the Magpies won this afternoon so they’ll stay in the premiership! Did some teaching in the Rotherham area many years ago - Wingfield Comp? Hope it’s not too daunting for you. Kate, getting by without OH for number three. It must be very hard for him at the moment. Big Hugs.
Haven’t had any of this pain that Angie and Mel A are suffering from but I’m with you Philomena, my wrist is really sore. Never mind only four to go if they can find any more veins!
Foodwise, I’m ok with tomatoes but the big thing at the minute is Peas, minted, mushy and pease pudding - perhaps it’s natures way of dealing with constipation!!!
Mel, sounds like you had the day from hell. Lucky you were so strong and focussed. My nurse was being really lovely and I was a right miserable so and so.
Mel A that hat you’re wearing looks lovely. It’ll be great with one of the heathers headband hairpieces!
Kim, Where are you? Are you ok? It’s a few days since we heard from you.
Off to watch a bit of The Voice
Have a pleasant Sunday Evening Ladies

Thank you for all the good wishes. Weathered the freezing cold to complete the Race for Life, it was amazing to see such a huge crowd all dressed in pink and the atmosphere was really good. We raised a fantastic sum of £2700 and the gift aid will take us over £3k, cant believe how generous and supportive everyone has been.
Anyway down to earth with a bump, bloods first thing and if ok 3rd chemo Tuesday. Been drinking Cosmopolitans since we got back so better get on the water and make sure Iam ok for tomorrow.
have a lovely evening and minimal s/e to all xxx

Well done Amber, that is a great amount to raise, and if the weather was anything like here in Norwich, a positive hero.
All my girls are doing the race for life next weekend, I will be supporting from the sides in tutu and wings!!! I think I will be looking a bit like Matt. Lucas dressed as a fairy, but who cares if it raises money and awareness for what we have all recently found…BC is So prevalent.
Have a good week everyone xx

hi all
mel A - yes i have terrible pain in neck and shoulders, so are we putting this down to yet another s/e ? i wondered if i had slept funny last night but its actually quite tender so i think its the medicine.
Amber - well done you
Barb - welcome
Well ive been wallowing in self pity and misery all day today, ive had enough and i’m sick of being sick. Then my pals from work rang and had a good old moan about work and i think they got me going again! So hopefully i might get a few days in work this week, catch up on all the goss.
angie xx

A big well done Amber
