Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Pauline,

Can’t believe you’re going in so soon. That must be a big relief to you? I know it’s daunting, but I’m sure seeing Sharon must have helped a bit. You’ll be absolutely fine. Are you still getting done at the RAH? Hope you enjoy the next couple of days to chill out. I definately want to try the muscle inn, sounds a fab place to eat. It’s my birthday on the 21st maybe I’ll go then. Can u pm me ur address for you or hospital so I can send a card. I’m managing to keep side effects at bay so far. Haven’t been as bad as last time, but I’m very tired this time so I’m horizontal most of the day!!! Get quite out of puff even going upstairs.

Hope everyone is fine. X

Hugs

Hi
Fiona had a lovely bottle of champagne my friend couldn’t have any she was on tablets so had to drink the lot myself.
Got a phone call next morning could i go in for a ultra sound before 12 as they had a consultant free, my mri had an anomoly they couldnt tell if lump or part of the scar tissue, got biopsy done, will find out next wednesday when I go for heart scan and bloods.
Pauline will come up and see you, Fiona glad your feeling better going to look at wigs tomorrow

Hi girls - how you all doing.
FIONA - hope your managing chemo side effects. Rest as much as you can. I took Losec for heartburn - it really helped me.
PAULINE - how are you feeling about surgery. You’ll be fine. Don’t know your surname but will send card anyone.
YVOYVO - Glad you enjoyed champagne. You would sleep well that night. hope all OK when you see consultant.
So pleased Sharon has done well and is getting home.
It’s amazing how we all just get on with things and try and stay as positive as we can. Especially all you young girls with families. Don’t know how you do it.
Going away tomorrow with 5 of my friends for a girly weekend. We are going to Boat of Garten to holiday house of one of them. Should have a good time.
Love to all of you.
Sheila

Hi All
How’s everyone ? Sorry haven’t been about for a few days, but thinks I hit the same wall as Fiona ran into last week! I think a couple of people made a few ‘well meaning’ comments earlier on in the week that really seemed to get to me – but hey I’m starting to feel a bit more positive again today.

I’ve just had a quiet week, the thrush on my tonsils and mouth ulcer has cleared up but I did have a panic earlier this week as I had a pain on the side of my leg and convinced myself it was a DVT – yep I’m turning into a paranoid hypochondriac! (but my dad died from one). Anyway, surprise, surprise it wasn’t a DVT and the doctor was really great about it. My new panic is that there’s a baby in Seren’s room at nursery who’s older sister (also at nursery) has chicken pox, so I’m not sure whether to keep Seren off for the next 2 weeks, as this baby is still going into nursery but potentially could be incubating c.pox and will be contagious for 7 days before the spots appear – argh! its just all crap!

Anyway, I feel like I’ve missed loads –

Pauline – I can’t believe you’re going in for surgery so soon – you’ll be just great and we’ll all be thinking of you on Monday. I’m really glad you got to see Sharon, hopefully seeing how great she’s doing will help. Can you pm me your surname so I can send a card.

Fiona – How are you feeling? I’m glad the SE’s aren’t as bad this time, hopefully they won’t get any worse. Just take it easy – I find the tiredness really hard to cope with, I can’t even carry a basket around Tesco’s anymore!. My hairs still hanging on (literally!) it has thinned all over, but its not too bad, although I’m expecting to start losing it again this weekend. I tend to wear a scarf round my head at weekends and my wig during the week as I still love my glamorous young look – ha!. I could probably just get away without wearing anything, but my hair is just so fine at the mo and all over the place – I really miss my straighteners!. How old will you be on the 21st ? It’s Seren’s 1st bday on the 20th so definitely won’t forget yours.

Yvonne – I’m having same treatment as you. I’m getting my 3rd Epi on Tuesday. So far the SE’s haven’t been too bad - my veins in my chemo arm are now really sore from the chemo irritating them, I feel a bit nauseous for a couple of days after the chemo and apart from being tired I feel OK. My hair started falling out on day 20 for about 9 days, but as I wear the cold cap it hasn’t all gone, its just really thinned out. Have you seen a wig that you like yet?

Sheila – I hope you have a great weekend away with your friends. My consultant seems a bit like yours – doesn’t have many people skills either!

Sharon – If you manage to sign on from your mum’s I hope you’re doing ok, take it easy at your mums and let her look after you!

Jo – did you eventually get your chemo today? How many CMF’s have you had now? Hope you’re not feeling too rough.

Annie – I’m glad you had a good time down in blackpool. How did you get on with Dr Yusaf? I hope he managed to answer all your questions and you feel a bit more reassured.

Tracey & Jo – How’s the training going? When are your runs?

Angela – Hows work, I hope you’re taking it easy.

Have I missed anyone out – if I have I’m really sorry!

Lets hope we get some good weather this weekend, Mays normally such a good month too. I’ve got my third chemo on Tuesday.

Take care all.

Helen

Hi Pauline

I’m not sure if you’ve already left for hospital, but if you haven’t good luck, I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow - Take care.

I hope everyone else has had a good weekend.

Helen

Hi girls - have had such a good weekend. We had such a laugh and it was so relaxing. Saturday rained all day but Sunday was warm and sunny.
HELEN - sorry to hear you’ve had a bad few days. Hope you’re getting over it and feeling better. Can’t believe you go for 3rd chemo tomorrow. Hope all goes well for you. Do you not have a line in for your chemo. I had a Hickman line and this time I have a Porta Cath, which I find much better.
PAULINE - your probablyaway by now but wish you all the best.
FIONA - how are your side effects now. Are you getting used to the wig.
SHARON - so pleased you have done so well with op. Take it easy and let everyone look after you.
Everyone else - hope your all ok
Sun is shining in East Kilbride so going to sit outside this afternoon and read book.
Love to you all
Sheila

Hi everyone

Sounds like a few of you have been having a bit of a rough time, hope things improve soon. On a positive note i found the chemo experience a bit like childbirth. After thre event the memory fades and you forget the reality of what it was like.

I’ve been to visit the hospice and admit that it was better than i expected, i’m going to do some art classes and see if i can get some relaxing me time. I have a sick kid today, eldest was ill on Friday, youngest today. It means that i haven’t had my nap today so i think it will be an early night. Also means i haven’t been able to take advantage of the sunshine, hopefully tomorrow will be nice too.

Need to get holiday insurance this week as we are off to the states day after school stops. I had insurance in place bu they wont cover me now i have secondaries. Don’t care what it costs we are definitely going. Anyone else got plans for the summer.

Got to go and get dinner organised, take care.

Hi all

It’s me back on after 2 long weeks in hospital, what a journey.
Had to go to theatre 3 times in all!!!
So much to say but not enough time at moment.
I read through some of the thread, so much to go thro, I’ve missed loads.
Thank you Fiona, Helen, Sheila, Anne and poor Pauline (who has prob taken my bed) for your cards all were received.
Was really good to see Tracy, Jo and Angela at hospital, thanks guys for coming xxx

So glad to be out, parents looking after me but I just wish I was back to normal now, fluid building up in my back now, hope don’t need to get it drained.
See surgeon on Thurs for update to see how things are prob.

Glad Pauline saw me before she went in, I told her it’s nothing really to worry about and to ask all the time for pain relief.

I have a new boob but seem to have went thro alot to get it, they took alot away so didn’t get size they wanted, more ops later I suppose. I am still sore but have alot of movement back.

Glad some of you managed to meet up, it’s good to talk meet face to face.

Speak again soon girls, just had to let you know I’m out and back to reality.
Take care for now

Big hugs
Sharon xxxxxxx

Hi Chapesses,

Sorry havent been on on, house is stil being done, n my 2nd week after FEC (always my worst) and my wee laptop is still ill. Must get round to dealing with it.

Cammie, I had Mr Yusef laughing. Started off with “I DO knpw you don’t have a crystal ball … but”

Anyold how, I am now deemed fit for surgery. Seeing Mr Musa on Monday, bur again feeling the cumilative effects of the chemo.

I have contacted the press about the situation of the newly diagnosed ( my situation was desperate as I was working for an agency0 It is all confidential at this stage, but the they are coming to see me this week. Too late for any of us, but hopefully will bring to light the shame of how we are treated. No one believes it as they all assume the machiinery kicks in on diagnosis. My illness has cost my life saving of £5000, and my income even now is less than £125 per week. As I say, this is not about me, we have passed the absolute povery stage now that I have lived for 14 weeks undergoing sub lethal doses of the most powerful poisons known to man on £60.50 per week.

This is for those following in our footsteps.

If anyone would like to share their experiences, in total confidentiality, please contact me. This abuse canot be allowed to continue.

Great catching up with you all. We are all gong through one of Dants stages of hell and doing it with pride and good humour.

Sorry my campaigning, serious side had come through today.
Any more new of Sharon?

Will let you guys know about Mr Musa (an Angel, so warm and reassuring, will have my nurse sis in at consultation this time)

With love and my WARMEST best wishes to eachand every one of you !

Shiela, I live in Blantyre - would love to meet for a coffe if you are free?

Hugs - gentle ones - and speak soon

Annie W

Hi Everybody!!

Hi Lynda and welcome, so sorry to hear you are having to go through all this scary process again, I hope everything works out fine on Thursday…

Annie, Back on the saddle I see. good to hear the fighting spirit coming back… Good luck on Monday with Mr Musa, hope you get date for surgery.

Sharon, great to hear you’re out. every day’s a better day, and as the weeks go on you can look back and know you’ve come a good way on the road to recovery. I suppose there are always little set backs with healing, best trick is to deal with it asap, don’t sit on it. I hope all has gone well for Pauline too.

Fuzzyface, how did you get on with the traval insurance? I hope you get something. They are ridiculous at not insuring people who have a serious illness but who arent exactly going to drop down dead at any minute. people with high blood pressure can get insurance easier than people with cancer, and they’ve more chance of taking ill abroad and suddenly.

Sheila, Good to hear you had a nice weekend, I hope the weather is going to pick up and stay nice for a wee while, it doesn’t half lift the spirits.

Helen, hope all went well today with chemo. hope you can manage to get lots of rest. I made sure I took it real easy for the first 5 days, I think it has helped with the side effects.

Tracy, Jo glad to hear you are you are both well. great about the run, you did really well. I boobed and thought you were running in June…I had a friend running on Sunday too.

Sorry if I’ve missed anyone… need to dash, neighbour just popped in…

Hugs

Hi girls - another sunny day. Went into Glasgow with my daughter for some shopping and had nice lunch in Princes Square. Tired when I got home so had wee shut eye for an hour.
SHARON - great to hear from you again. You have done so well and hope you get home soon. Just enjoy being spoiled by your Mum.
FUZZFACE42 - you must be looking forward to holiday. Travel Insurance is such a nightmare as they ask questions that are not relevant to you then tell you a horific premium to pay.
JOANNE - you have been busy - good for you at Girls Aloud concert Sure it was brilliant.
LYNDA - welcome to this wee group. Hope all goes well with your Mamo - it’s hard thinking this horrible disease could be back again.
TRACY - well done for completing race You are amazing finishing this while still on chemo - you’re a star.
ANNIE - glad Dr Y laughed!! Would like to meet up for coffee. If fion

Hi All
Hope everyone is doing ok – I think just having a bit of nice weather helps.
God my 3rd chemo yesterday, can’t believe it’s come round so quickly – yippe! Last Epi next time, so something to look forward to. Feeling a lot better this time than last, I’ve ditched the domperidone (?) anti-sickness tablets as I’m sure they were making me feel worse. Just a bit tired, but trying to take it easy.

Sharon – I’m so glad your home from hospital and on the mend. Sounds like you had a pretty tough time, I can’t believe you had to go down to surgery 3 times. Hows the swelling in your back? Take it easy and let your mum spoil you.

Fiona – How are feeling – is the tiredness starting to wear off? Did A get off on his school trip ok? How are you coping with him being away? I hope C’s chemistry standard grade goes well.

Tracey – congratulations on your run, that’s fantastic you raised so much. It’s really great that your hair has come back so much you can ditch your wig. I’ve lost track with your treatment, are you still getting chemo?

Jo – Good luck with the PS on Thursday and with your chemo on Friday. I just wish I had as much energy as you! Can’t believe you went to Girls Aloud after your chemo – I just head to bed after mine.

Fuzzyface – I’m not that up on Travel Insurance, but on the publications section on this site under practical advice and finance there is a leaflet ‘Breast Cancer and Travel Insurance’ might be worth a read. I hope your girls are better now.

Annie – Glad you’ve still got your fighting spirit – go for it girl! Just don’t overdo things!

Sheila – Glad you had a good day yesterday and managed to get a rest, I still can’t believe I can fall asleep mid afternoon so easily – but just goes to show we obviously need it. Hope you’re enjoying the sun today

Yvonne – When are you starting your chemo? How is your wig search going?

Lynda – Welcome to our group and sorry you’ve had to join us. It must be a pretty scary time at the moment for you, keep us updated when you know more.

Well, think I’m going to head for a quick nap before the boys come home and Seren wakes up .

Big hugs to all,

Helen

Hi Again
I forgot to say - I had a lecture yesterday for putting on 1lb - can you believe it. Its worse than going to weight watchers! I think I’m going to have to starve myself the day before my next treatment!
