Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Girls,

Just a quickie, while I can keep my head up!! Been violently sick after this chemo. Nearly ended up in Beatson yesterday. Never want to go through that again!! I was sick every hr for 14hrs. I got a jag from the doc which helped but when I was sick again they wanted me into hospital. Luckily they gave it one last chance and it stopped.

No sign of any flu symptoms from Ciaran. I was supposed to start tamiflu but couldn’t due to sickness. I have to get cell boosting jags for a week starting Saturday and the side effects for them are flu symptoms, so this should be fun!!

Ok I’m beat!!! Hope everyone is fine.

Love Fiona. Xxx

Hi Fiona

You poor thing – you’ve have such a hard time with side-effects this time and last, you’ll be dreading going back in again. But just think only 2 lots to go and it’ll soon fly by. I hope you’re starting to feel a wee bit better. I’d now dreading starting CMF – I go root ginger capsules to start taking Sunday as they’re meant to help with nausea – fingers crossed.

I’m probably going to sound really stupid now, but why are you getting cell boosting injections, is it because your blood counts were low or is it part of the treatment?

I’m really glad Ciaran is OK at the moment - how are you managing to cope with all this happening?

Hope everyone else is OK.

Take care

Helen

Hi girls

Just a quickie, sorry didn’t make lunch, sorry haven’t been on for a while, I’m just starting to get really fed up at the moment.

Arm doing good, saw physio on Tues she said i was a superstar!! Got a bit of Chording but exercises will help so they say.
Sat in Royal for 2hrs today to see surgeon and that was just a check up, again didn’t see her saw one of her side kicks but said everything looks good, don’t see her again until 29th Oct as need to get Rads out the way.

Fiona - sorry your having a hard time, i found FEC easier than Taxotere. I’m too having worries with Swine Flu, friends son has been kept off school and I go to their’s every week for dinner.

I have been thinking of you guys all the time.

Seems like most of us having hard time at the moment.

Anyway girls get your names down for the young womens forum next year, I’m going to go.

I’ve not got the energy at moment to say an awful lot so I’ll log off for now.

Take care, hugs and love

ANNIE XX

Hi Annie

I can’t believe you’ve managed to find a computer in the hospital so soon after your op. I hope you’re recovering well and more importantly taking it easy.

Sharon - sorry you’re not feeling to great, but you’ve been through so much recently, try and stay positive - I know it’s not always easy!. I find if I stay in for a couple of days, I start getting down, as the reality of all of this is just too scary to think about. When do you start your rads?

Fiona - how are you feeling? I hope the sickness is easing and you’re starting to feel more like yourself.

Lesley - how are feeling? are you managing to get away on hols? fingers crossed.

I hope everyone is having a good week.

Take care all

Hi girls

Had some unexpected news today, my work will stop paying me in July, I’m really stressing about it as I didn’t think this would happen.
keep thinking to myself how am I supposed to pay my bills with only £64.30 coming in!! I’ll be busy all next week phoning DWP and citizens advice to see what else i can do, think I’ve had it though.

Wanted to give Annie a wee visit today but just wasn’t up to it, everytime I think about this new problem I just break-down, haven’t even got this upset about the cancer and what I’ve been through recently.

Start Rads 13th July finish 18th Aug, hopefully after that I can go on hols and not have to return to work earlier than I expected! I really need to get myself better first.

Sorry for just moaning again!!

hope everyone ok

Love and Hugs

Hi all…

Been frantically looking for clothes to wear to my brothers wedding next week.Eventually was successful today…thank god…me and shops dont get on unless they sell food.Major problem with clothes now…they dont sit to well on my chest at the mo…
Wounds are not healing as quick as I would have liked and therfore have to go easy on firing saline into the tissue expanders. My arm is none too clever sometimes…god knows how I will manage 5 weeks of rads…Have started the tamoxifen tabs and zoladex inj …no straight jacket for me yet…hehehe.
Been to loads of appointments since surgery…there is just no getting away from them .Will be getting ovaries out anytime I like and docs have suggested hysterectomy. Not into the latter just now…

You all appear to have been pretty busy with treatments, etc.Annie hope you are feeling better today. Its such a relief when the surgery is done.Take it easy though and dont be rushing out of hospital.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and hopefully things will pick up for all of us.

Take care

good to hear from you annie and glad you are recovering well.

for you girls with cording i had it really bad with my first tumour and really i tried all sort of pain killers exercises, saw physio and had banding applied but tbh it just eventually got better itself… but took about 7-8 months to go away completely… i occasionally get it now and again but isnt as bad as it was at first when i couldnt even stretch or open kitchen wall cupboard without pain.

helen good luck with CMF… ill be getting that in a few months as getting my first epi on thurs… its quite nice to see hope you coped as not many people seem to be on e-cmf. are you getting your cmf 3 weekly as well or are you getting them 4 weekly… i was told mine was 3 weekly but then they gave me info on 2 different 4 weekly regimens… im not too fond of my new BCN and she was supposed to phone this week but

sorry to hear things arent going so good right now Sharon… have you beeen to the CAB or maggies as they are both very good with financial advice. (((hugs)))

fee do you have neutropaenia? i was told id only get GCSF if i was neutropaenic or got an infection… fingers crossed your feeling well enought to get your tamiflu too.

pauline sounds like you have loads going on right now and glad you found something suitable to wear for your Bro’s wedding.

hope evrybody else is

Hi Gang,

Feeling a bit more jollier tonight!! Hopefully the only way is up from now on.

I’m having a week of filgrastim injections starting tomorrow. From what I can gather from the hospital on tuesday was everybody on chemo is being put on these injections if you live in this side of Glasgow due to the outbreak. They have had to get permission from the trial to include it as part of my treatment due to the circumstances. Anyone starting the trial or any chemo is automatically getting it. They said that although my immune system will still be immature I would not be any more at risk than a normal person from infection. I still haven’t started tamiflu, Ciaran is still fine. So all is good! I have award night at school on Monday. Bit nervous about going but don’t feel I could miss it. Will be keeping safe distance and taking hand gel!!

Hope all is well with you Annie, glad to hear you got the blackberry up and working in hospital!! Hope you’re home now and on the mend! X

Lynda, hope you’re feeling ok about Thursday? Helen, Yvonne and another woman I met at Maggies all seemed to have coped with epi very well, I’m sure you’ll be the same. X

Sharon, that’s a bummer about work! I would get in to see carol at maggie’s, if there’s help out there she’ll get you it. I get employment support allowance £64 a week. Is that what you get. I heard it went up to £80 after 14 weeks. You don’t need a medical if still on treatment. X

Helen, how’s the kids? Are you managing to get some rest? I hope cmf is kind to you on Tuesday. I was knocked for 6 with Fec, wasn’t really expecting it as everybody seemed to cope really well with it. It’ll be my nutty body!!! Does everything the opposite to what it should!! X

Hope everyone has a nice weekend, I’m having a very quiet one!!

Luv n hugs

Hi Guys

Sill in. Was hoping to get out tomorrow, but still a lot being drained, anout half a litre so far. Will be in till the drainage is 30ml. Better in than out and I’m quite comfortable, if bored!!!

So much to catch up on. Sharon, pet, I know just what you’re going through as I faced just that when I was dx in Jan - I was more worried about finance then the horrible thing thay was happening to me. Make an appt with Carol at Maggies. She will make sure you will get all you are Entitled to, make contact with banks, councils, utilities companies etc so you won’t have to deal with them and she’ll chase your DLA applicarion, which will be backdated to the date of your diagnosis. If you look at earlier posts, I was OUTRAGED that I and everyone in my position was subjected to absolute poverty at the worst time in their life. This is A political matter, requiring a political solution. I have already contacted the press. We need mass protest, not only cancer suffers but the genuinely ill. It’s my mission once I am up to it. But in the meantime, Carol will make sure that everything that can be done to ease your crisis will be done. This is a dark time for all of us, but I believe we can at least hightlight to the unsuspecting public what THEY can expect if they fall ill, as so many of them will!!!
Take heart Sharon, you have beaten this beast, think how strong you have had to be to do that. And there is help. Call Maggie’s 1st thing Monday, gather up all of your commitments, council tax, utilities, bank loans - anything that is leaving your Account and take them down to Carol. Call your MP’ or I will if you want when I get out and kick up blue, f**** murder that you were dx in oct 2008 and you are STILL waiting for DLA!!! And then tell him about ESA, because the cretins are knocked speechless when it’s Pointed out to them. Remind him that you are a VOTER, with a wide circle of VOTERS who are similarly disgusted. Demand an explanation in writing about the delay iin DLA, tell him you reserve the right to make this public, remind him he represents YOU and is accountable to YOU. He is bound to act on your behalf, and to keeP you abreast of the actions he takes, or plans to take on your behalf. They are all running scared just now, rightly so.

We will all have to have a long lunch and confab soon!!!

Fee, how are you? It’s so unfair that you are having such a bad time on FEC coupled with the worry of flu’. My FEC was a game of 2 halves. Fine, except for agonising consipation. Then I got the chest infection and was hit by everybloodything!!! The good news is that it is effective. Hope you are back to you wee self soon. Isn’t the fatigue hard to believe? Like … My teeth can wait till tomorrow! It does pass. The longest night
passes …

I will post when I get home. Just had to respond to our Sharon. Save yourself the cost and stress of calling dwp etc, just get all of your stuff together and see Carol. Thur is drop in day!! But make an appt and you can go though everything in details. Hugs and good luck, speak next week When I’m out.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, take care of yourselves.

Hi Girls

Didn’t get my chemo yesterday as my neutrophils were only at .8 so got a week off. I was actually quite relieved as they took about 3 attempts to get into a good vein and I was just a bit fed-up with it all as its just getting to be a drag now!. But I’d also lost a lb, so was quite relieved!

Hope everyone is enjoying this great weather, just hope it stays.

Helen

Helen,

Are you on the G-CSF injections now?Believe M &S do a good deal on neutrophils…BOGOF even!!!
So,what are you and the kids going to get up to now you have escaped a week?
Hang on in there
Hugs

Hi All!

Finding it easier to sit on my bum now the tennis is on. !

Gosh Helen, a week off! Hope you make the most of it. You’ll probably be given those injections next time, I’ve found them ok, bit achey and fluey with first one but fine since. Good for immune system which is good!! I have lost 4lb this week but not intentionaly, prob all the throwing up and no apetite, no doubt it’ll be put back on in the next week or so.

The weather is great isn’t it? Hope it keeps up. I bet it starts raining the minute the kids break up!!!
I’ll miss all my peace and quiet for the next 7 weeks!!!

Well back to some tennis!! Only thing is I like to munch whilst watching. … Oh dear!!

Big hugs to all. X

Love to each and every one of you. Hugs, Annie xxx

Hi Girls

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I’m enjoying my week off, feels like I’ve got my life back; even if its only for the week!.

Lulu - I think your ‘new hair’ looks great. I’ve just treated myself to a short bob which I love. Did you wear the cold cap?

Pauline - M&S have run out of neutrofils - their BOGOF offer proved too popular - ha! I’m not on the injections yet, guess I might yet them if bloods aren’t up this week. My veins are pretty rubbish at the momment, so they’re probably glad of a week off too! How are you feeling now?

Annie - glad you’re home, I hope you’re taking it easy and getting plenty of rest.

Fiona - How are you feeling now? Have the SE’s improved? When do you get your next lot of dreaded chemo?

Hope everyone else is keeping ok

Take care

Helen
