Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi All

Just back from Breast Clinic and everything is OK. Consultant had a good prod and decided that it’s nothing to worry about and scar tissue and normal breast tissue is just more noticeable as I haven’t got any flesh left in the area.

Hope everyone else is well and appointments were OK today too.

Take Care

PS has anyone heard from Annie???

Hi girls - this weather has been awful so just chilling out.
Some of you seem to be having traumatic times. Family making the most of me not being on chemo. Have had Jessica to stay last week, my 3 year old grandson another night and my 8 year old niece another.
Helen - you’ll be so relieved everything ok with lump.
Maggie - will be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope chemo is better for you this time. Jag in tummy is OK and should make you feel not so tired.
Fiona - how is Rads going. It must be tiring being at Beatson every day.
Carol - are you still enjoying posing in you new car.
Pauline - how are you. What is happening about cyst.
Annie - what are you up to. Miss your chat.
Yvonne - are you ok. How’s the cold.
Sun is going to shine tomorrow.
Love
Sheila

Hello Girls,

God what a long day… I got the all clear for herceptin (just)!! heart result was 51 and the cut off rate was 50… Chemo suite were lovely and wanted to squeeze me in early when I asked but my herceptin didn’t turn up till 4pm…pharmacy up to their old tricks again…so it was 6pm when I got home. needless to say I’m knackered. And to top it all off, lovely wee old lady across from me took seriously ill with chemo, was sick and choked then stopped breathing and I had to watch it all…poor nurses were in a flap… she recovered thank goodness and was taken away to be admitted. so I’m stressed up to my eyeballs!!

Great to finally meet you Maggie and I’m glad to hear Jack was ok when you got back to the car. Good luck for tomorrow, will keep my eye out for you…

Helen, Glad all was fine with the lump…I prod and poke everything now looking for lumps and strange anomalies… well if we don’t who will?

Annie, hope all is well with the Tax? let us know how you’re getting on… big hugs… hope your not feeling duff!!

Sheila, Kids are a good distraction and they really know how to keep you busy… Hope you are starting to get your strength back when having a break from chemo…I hope the sun comes out this week!! I’ll be suffering from that s.a.d thing next if it doesn’t!!

Hope all you other girls are doing good… I feel an early night coming on…

night night

Hi All

Hope everyone is OK. I applied for a MacMillan grant this morning to help with travelling expenses to the beatson for radiotheraphy, so fingers crossed I’ll get something.

Fiona - What a time you had yesterday at hospital, must of all been a bit of a shock seeing someone so ill. It was nice you managed to meet up with Maggie.

Maggie - the injections are great, the district nurse came out first time and showed me how to give myself them and it’s now really easy.Just be aware as with everything, there are SE’s. I suffer cronic back pain on day 5 & 6. I was really upset the first time I had them as the pain was so bad, I panicked that I’d got bone mets!

Annie - how are you?

Carol - Are you still enjoying your car? Where are you with your treatment?

Sheila - Its lovely you’re managing to spend so much time with your grandchildren and niece. Kids really keep you going and upbeat. My 4 year has now taken to kissing my boob regularly. He was lying in bed having a cuddle this morning and he pulled my top down and gave my scar lots of kisses - he’s so sweet and definately a boob boy.

Yvonne - How are you keeping now?

Well, I’m off to empty my Fridge Freezer as it’s decided to stop working - argh! and we don’t have an extended warranty - argh! Have got someone coming to look at it tonight, so fingers crossed it can be fixed cheaply.

Hugs

Helen

Hi Helen good luck with the Macmillan grant.

What a lovely day it’s been. Fiona Jessica and I went to Pollok House and sat outside having lunch. Just great to see sun.
Fiona - what a long day you’ve had and having to watch that poor women Just glad she’s OK now.
Carol - understandable you’re worried about Rads. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Travelling mst be the worst.
Helen - hope you get grant. Carol at Maggies filled form for me and I got £200. Think everyone who applies gets something.
Maggie - how was chemo. Injections eventually did give me some joint pain, but copeable.
Hi to everyone else
Looking forward to another sunny day tomorrow
Sheila

Hi Carol,

Yep slapping the stuff on about 3 times a day, because my scar is at the side my whole auxilla area is getting it too even though I have no nodes involved so I’m covering all that with cream too… The week after next I’m there at 10.30am as I’ll be getting my boosts. There’s been big hold ups this week as the computers that are rigged up to the machines have been changed onto new servers and they keep breaking down…my appointment was an hour late today due to a breakdown…here’s hoping they get it all sorted soon!!!

Fiona xxx

Hope you are all doing well today.

Hi Girls

What a lovely day its been today after so much rain.

Well, I went into my work today to hand in my sick note and actually went into the office and saw everyone, I’ve only managed to get as far as reception on previous visits as I didn’t want to face everyone; I just had visions that all the guys would be looking at me and imagining my boob - ha!
Just a thought - the 3 consultants at the breast clinic I go to are all male, do you think they grew up thinking they wanted a job looking at womens boobs all day?

Maggie - are you getting the district nurse out to show you how to do your first injection? I had one out for my first injection and she was really great and patient as I sat for at least 5 mins staring at the injection before I eventually jabbed it in. She also rang me the next day to make sure I’d managed to do it by myself and offered to come out if I was struggling.

Must go, kids nagging!

Helen

Evening girls…

Just a wee note to say thanks for all the kind thoughts and support given to me on this thread .Got my appointment in for neuro…next monday…so will let you all know how I get on.Hopefully, planning to go back to work beg Nov…but if we win the lottery now thats a different story!!!
Maggie,hi hope you are doing ok.It was just to let you know I had a hickman line in…saves playing find the vein game!.It is a wee bit uncomfortable when the girls put it in…but doable. However,if you are real anxious about procedure ask for some sedation.I did’nt cause I always like to be in control but then I work in the Nhs and what a bunch of control freaks we are !!!
The Dns will come out and flush your line every week. You will get alot of advice when you get it done.Just go for it.
I personally reckon that everybody should be given this option to begin with and not wait till their arms/hands have been well tortured.I must admit I asked to get it done and glad I did so.

Well everybody have a nice evening and be looking after yourselves. To all my friends out there still getting various treatments just hang in their.
Thinking of you all

Hi Girls,

Sorry I have been awol. bit of a tale … and not all that nice.

Firstly, quick catch up.

Maggie you look GEORGEOS bald. Some girls, and most men, just do. My napper is peanut shaped so I lucked out big time there. Sorry you had such a horrible time on FEC - have they adjusted your medication?

The jabs are really OK, very small. It might be an idea to get the DN in to keep an eye on you thougt since you had a bad time on your first course. It’s your choice if you want to self administer. I am bound to say that I only had pain once, and fleeting at that, on them. I was very grateful in the beginning for the help of Ruth, who is the Head DN in this area. She prescribed Nystatin, stuff for my sore feet, heel guards because they broke down etc, so don’t be afraid to get them in. Even just as an extra health check. How’s Jack? Are you getting him walked when you are feling fatigued? Doesnt he look like the doggie from the Winalot adverts?

Pauline, don’t quite know what to say girl. I do know you are one feisty girl with great strength and humour Do keep us informed.

Fiona, I cannie believe you have started rads!! The end, Herceptrin excepted, is in ight for you now, You too Helen. This will all be a memory soon. I loved your wee boy story Helen, kissing your wee sick boob better. Will you be getting a reconstruction? You are certainly looking fit as a flea.

Yvonne, hope your mouth is better - it’s the worst when your mouth is awful. I’ve kinda got it just now, but am armed with Difflam, which is keeping the worst at bay. Baking soda too, helps. I was using BAKING POWDER which faomed up massively to begin with. Bought the wrong tub. Looked like I had rabies!!!Curses on my bad eyesight.

Anyway, I had an infection the weekend befor I started last chemo. My bloods were too low when I went for pre-chemo (even though I didn’t feel ill at the time. They took more when I went for Herceptrin and they were fine. Good actually! (No matter how ill I am, bloods seem to be ok. Oh except for my Hg before my surgery - dropped to 8.2) I had Herceptrin on Monday, Tax on Tue and 3 appt worth of dental work on Thurs so expected to feel pretty ropey. Then my wee cat was ill and I picked something quite ghastly from her. She was fine the next day, incidentally!!

I have never had pain like this in my life, it was like it was alive and moving through me from my bones to my muscles, terrible stomache pains - but i Had them going into chemo - my eyes, mouth was just too awful to discribe, temp of 38+. I was so scared I called in for an emergency doctor at 6am. He gave me Tramadol injection for the pain. I am no winp. I didn’t even go to hosp with a broken shoulder till the next day!! So called into hosp where my infectoin level was 122 (whatever that is - but high) So I spent that week in a haze, on 2 different pain pills, nt quite sure what day it was. Then I felt light headed and stoned for a few days. My tongue had so many ulcers they burst amd bled. So for 2 weeks I have been a sick pup. When I went for Herceptrin on Mondaythe oncy (who I have never met before, asked my if I wanted to go through with this chemo!!) They asked lots of questions and of course my response was that if my bloods were up for it then so was I. Anyhow, got poisoned on Tue (I have t get the cannula in my wrist or thumb as my han veins are all used up too) I was convinced that they were going to try for a line this tme as I had a horrible time the previous visit. O got that Mon and Tue, and I am feeling not too bad now. The DEX help but I crashed yesterday and slept most of hte day when they finished. Terrible taste in the mouth, couple of ulcers, bit crampy and my feet are numb and finger tips too. And the tiredness!!! I am taking painkillers now, not trying to be a hero so feel a bit stoned too.

What a relief!! I got DLA, one phone call and it was passed to the decision maker and a ecision reached in 2 days, but was lying in a huge pile. The DM said they were jus totally swamped. Had a great time berating my MP - well his Office Manager. Incidentally, you only get it backdated till 3 months after diagnosis, not from the date the form is stamped. Another wee petty claw back.

Fiona, my WTC ended on 13th August, but there are other benefits that kick in. I hae been too ill to do anything or to see Carol at Maggi’s (I have only just booted up my laptop for the forst ime in 2 weeks) but I had an increase in ESA from £95.15 p/w to £113. I did contact (I think - it’s a a bit vague!!) the benefits office to tell them I was too ill to talk and they noted when my income stopped. But some things do seem to kick in automaically. I do hope you applied for DLA. It is time limited, mine’s until Aug 2010, when my treatment will be fiished. I cannot urge you girls enough to apply. DLA was DESIGNED for people like us!! It’ s a relief to know that there is a little money guarenteed to go into my account each month now.

I am hoping to feel well enough to get a wee Blackpool break next week now that I know the difference between the chemp s/e and my feline infection!

To all you lovely ladies, enjoy the nice weather, keep well and keep posting.

Is there going to be another get together, so hard for us al to be well at the same time eh.

Love and lollipops

Annie xxxx

Annie, nice to see you back, what an awful time you have been having.

You were missed on the forum

take care

Carol xx

Hi Anne

I was turned down twice for DLA, those of you that get it are lucky. I had to live on £65.50 from ESA!

Hope you girls are good

Angela

Hi Angela

So good to hear from you!! Angela it is outrageous that anyone with cancer is turned down from a basic entitlement. That’s why I go on ad nauseam about applying QUICKLY, because they go on the hosp report. So if you are on the mend, they WILL knock you back. As it is, you only get it for the duration of your condition.

I had to live on £60.50 too. It has had a huge impact on my health, nerves and financies.

It us my absolutely belief that people ill but not terminal are effectively disenfranchised. Had a great time ‘in frank discusssion’ with my MP. We all should.

Hope you are feeling better Angela. How’s
work? You prob went back way too soon.

Do keep in touch, I worry when someone is missing in action!

Hope the weather holds over the weekend eh?

Have a good one lassies.
