April 2024 chemo starters

Hi @SL255, I get very cold, so also bring a blanket and as I’ve got a PICC line (need to wear a T shirt for access) this week I brought a poncho thing I had to wrap around the rest of me! I’ve never managed to watch anything on my iPad but did manage a few pages of a book

@SL255 I took an audiobook with me, then I could just listen and not have to really concentrate. I had good WiFi on the unit too so was messaging friends. And as all my chemo came in syringes there were frequent changes and 2 nurses coming to check the next syringe - think I had 8 separate infusions overall - EC currently.

@hc1973 and @hc1973 I’ve also had a pretty much continuous headache for the last few days, it’s much worse at night. Now wondering if it’s due to the injections  really fed up with it so hope it goes soon!

I had a lovely delivery from Cancer Support this morning, which has really cheered me up! Someone had posted on here and I filled in an application about 10 days ago, didn’t hear anything back and then this arrived today :two_hearts:

It’s so difficult to pinpoint it isn’t it! My first chemo was on the 4th and I’ve had a headache every day. I’ve actually bought a migraine cap from Amazon that I put in the fridge don’t worry not like extreme like a cold cap! And also the migraine Kool n soothe head strips are really good. Hope your head gets better Hx

Hi @SL255, I took lots of things expecting to be cold and was exactly the opposite! So next time I’m also taking a handheld fan with me. If you have one, I’d throw that in too - can’t be too prepared!

On day 9 today and my symptoms are finally lifting! I managed to leave the house for a walk with a friend today. She’d made some home-cooked food and brought some toys for the kids and it has really cheered me up. One thing you can say for this drama is it really makes you appreciate good friends!
I am sorry to hear of the headaches and bone pain etc that so many are struggling with, fingers crossed they will disappear quickly.
Last night of the bone jab for me tonight hoorah - for a week at least!!

I’ve been out for a walk in the sunshine today, and been out for a meal with friends this evening - wore my wig for the first time, as my hair is so disgusting and greasy!!! Nice to have a “normal” day.

The cool and soothe head strips are good - the menthol aroma helps too @hc1973 I’ve had the whole day with no headache

Yes, it’s touching to think what a difference such a gesture makes. Hopefully I’ll be in a position to pay it forward at some point :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I received one of these kits when I went through chemo. I finished chemo and radiotherapy 18 months ago.
Cancer support UK also run something called ‘Cancer Coach’ that is very useful. They help you to deal with the emotional trauma of a cancer diagnosis and treatment. I took part in Cancer Coach and it certainly is a benefit. xx

I was wondering whether it might be a useful source further down the line, so thank you for that @Jukat :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi ladies the steroids usually makes you cry, don’t worry, let it all out, it’s actually quite therapeutic after a while, knowing that’s the steroids and you can cry. I cried once about no having any sweetcorn and shouted at my ex about it :sob::joy:
It’s a rollercoaster you definitely learn to live w it! :heartbeat: I would come off them progressively it helped not to crash. Talk to your onco nurse. Big hugs :hugs: :two_hearts:
