April 2024 chemo starters

Evening Ladies! @altoan @ivy-cat @gromit12 @bettysmum @isthisreal @ivegotthis01 @mlp74 @tsoph @pollyanna1 I don’t know where the day has gone! Sorry to hear that people have had a pants day. Like someone said earlier (sorry can’t remember chemo brain is real!) it really is a rollercoaster of emotions at the moment. I’m hoping that as we get used to our treatment it becomes a bit easier as we know what to expect, I hate all the new symptoms and feelings and you just wonder is this normal! Well as I mentioned I had a completely meltdown on Sunday/Monday which threw me, feeling much better today, I think helped by a Poonami event yesterday after 6 days :poop: also I’d been feeling sick so my BCN told me to keep up with the anti sickness tablets which has made a huge difference I also followed everyone’s advice and got some Gaviscon and some omzeparole. As I mentioned my bamboo wig liner arrived, well! I put it on my ahead and it’s quite big I look like a member of the great train robbery and not in a good way! I’m not sure how it’s going to work with my wig. It did make me laugh though! Maybe when I’m feeling brave i will post a photo of said wig liner on head just to cheer everyone up! Sending everyone some positive thoughts for a good nights sleep! Helen x

Ladies, I would highly recommend the Look Good Feel Better Headwear, Wigs, Brows & Lashe workshop :+1:t3: I attended on Tuesday , it’s run by the team at Cancer Hair Care and the presenter was great. She covered wigs, headwear, eyelashes and brows. She was so positive and really knows her stuff. Lots of the information is available on their website https://www.cancerhaircare.co.uk/ too but I’d really recommend you try to sign up.
As you know I was pretty miserable about my thinning hair last week (still am really) but I feel more confident now about it and not so alone - there were lots of people on the call.
Then…on Tuesday afternoon I collected my wig! It’s fabulous :person_white_hair:t3: Matches my going to grey hair exactly, almost the same cut and the lady was able to trim it to make it even better.
I sent a selfie of my daughter & I to my siblings with “what do you think?” and my sister asked did I have new glasses? I know she’s probably being kind but I’ll take it!.
Apologies for the long post but it’s been a while since I’ve been positive about this subject

Morning @gromit12 good luck for today, I hope it all goes to plan H x

@altoan so glad you love.your wig- doesn’t it make you feel better? :two_hearts: I’ll have a look at the wig workshop. I’m awake at silly o’clock this morning as I’ve got round 2 of EC. Even though I know what to expect this time and it will be shorter as no PICC line to put in too, still apprehensive. Going to persevere with the cold cap, just makes it a longer day. Can any of you ladies have anyone with you?

Thanks for that I’m going to book onto one. It’s also not knowing how to care for your scalp too, so that sounds like a great shout x

@tsoph I’ve eaten much the same really. But the first week found it hard to plan as it really was I wanted what took my fancy! Once nausea was under control- top tip- if they give you anti nausea medication, take it all!!!- appetite was ok. Taste for drink changed- coffee :nauseated_face:diet coke :nauseated_face:living off milk and ribena!!! Even taking my own squash into chemo today as alternative to coffee - was offered endless coffees last time! Have taken a liking for ginger biscuits!

Hope your session goes well today @gromit12 My team we’re very positive about sticking with the cold cap, so I will for as long as it’s feasible.

I’ve gone off coffee too which is usually my fave drink. I made the mistake of thinking after 3 days I’d be fine and wouldn’t need any more anti sickness drugs but soon realised I did! Next round I will make sure I continue taking them until I feel ok. I seem to have no appetite so I’m just eating little and often and whatever I want! X

Quick question gang… so my hair hasn’t started to fall out just yet and I haven’t coldcapped but I’m know it’s going to happen soon. I washed my hair yesterday and it just looks weird and lank and just not like normal? Has anyone else had the same? Is this the precursor to the shedding maybe?

@hc1973 - yes it’s the chemo taking effect. I’ve been cold capping and so far kept a decent amount of hair but it looks terrible- lank and a horrible rough texture!
