April 2024 chemo starters

@isthisreal I suppose if someone is sitting with a pantyliner on their head it will make me chuckle!!!:rofl: Feeling sick with anxiety this morning. The advice was for the conditioner generally- what to use all the time xx

I was so nervous before my first chemo @gromit12 that I didnā€™t sleep at all the night before and ended up sleeping for 9 hours after it as I was so exhausted. It really wasnā€™t as bad as I was expecting. The nurses were lovely and someone came round with hot drinks and snacks. I had a saline drip too which really helped I think as I wasnā€™t at all dehydrated afterwards. Once itā€™s out of the way you will know what to expect for next time and it will be easier. Iā€™m on day 8 after my last chemo now and feeling OK - I may even manage some work later!

Can anyone point me towards a good headband? I have two - one too wide and one too elasticity- so didnā€™t use first time, but think it will defo help with headache.
Iā€™ve heard about the panty liner but have my standards :joy::joy:

@isthisreal I found that the time went fairly quickly really, just about enough to read a few pages of my book, have a doze (Iā€™m very good at napping!) The staff have stuff to do to you and offered hot drinks too. The hospital provided a towel first time, but I think Iā€™ll bring one myself next week

Ock he will be no good at this, thinking am going to have to close my eyes do a 1,2,3 count in and just go for it, am sure it will get easier.

Oh thats a shame about wig person, but good you have a back up plan.

I just want my 1st cycle done so I know what I will be like, the waiting is the worst & not knowing how you will feel afterwards. Hopefully I get more information & advise at the meetung next wk.

Hope everyone is doing ok today ?

Another day another chemo session finished and thankfully not as long as the first one. Getting used to my new routine of bloods on a Monday, chemo on Wednesday and injections Friday and Saturday. This time injections are already in the fridge! Is everyone else also doing weekly? i am signed up for 6 months of this so its a long haul. As for headband, i found an old one in the bottom of a drawer with not much elastic and i think its about 2.5 inches? But the ladies have various widthsā€¦i did a quick look about , as for a panty liner, i also heard that one, but just couldnā€™t do it. Hope youā€™re all doing well, love reading your updates, thanks ladies x

Well done @steph1969 :muscle:t3: A weekly regime is tough, mine is fortnightly and that seems a lot. You seem to have a difficult injection plan too. I guess each one is another ticked off so we need to keep looking forward to that end day.
canā€™t believe how much trouble ā€œindigestion ā€œ is giving meā€¦. Itā€™s so uncomfortable :persevere: I even took paracetamol in the night to try and get some relief.
The District Nurse is coming to flush/check my PICC todayā€¦. Hubbys got images of Sr Monica Joan turning up on her bike and solving all our problems, maybe whipping up a quick meal for him at the same time!

@altoan sorry that indigestion is giving you so much grief. What are you like eating? Are you hungry or have you gone off food? Iā€™ve hardly slept and am off to have my PICC line in and the first cycle of chemo :scream: Iā€™m doing 3 weekly cycles. Love the image of sister Monica Joan!!!

@gromit12 - I still have an appetite really. I canā€™t say that Iā€™m enjoying my food in the same way as usual, but am certainly eating 3 meals a day and the odd (ginger ) biscuit or nibble of chocolate to cheer me up!
I hope all goes well for you today

Well after the 5th injection of Filstigram last night I suffered such extreme lower back and pelvic pain that I had to phone the emergency helpline. They said it was a side-effect and to take painkillers but itā€™s still bad this morning and Iā€™m struggling to walk so just hope it eases soon! Iā€™ve heard taking an antihistamine before you inject yourself can help so may try this next time.

@steph1969 - well done on making it through another session! Fingers crossed you feel OK over the next few days
@gromit12 - good luck for today, it will be good to have the first one done!

@altoan - so sorry that you are still having indigestion. Mine has eased off but now been replaced by bone painā€¦ not sure which is worse tbh. Hope the Picc flush goes well. I go to a small community hospital by the sea to have mine done (I live in Norfolk) and the nurses are so lovely. Thereā€™s always tea and cakes on hand too - I almost enjoy it!

Hi, i also suffered with bone and back aches like never before, after the injections. I am already taking the anti histamines so its already in my body for tomorrowā€™s injection. I think being very constipated didnt help at the same time. Got to learn to listen to my body, take the pain relief sennakot and im hoping the build up of anti histamines will see me through this weeks round. Hope you feel soon xx

Well anticipation was far worse than the reality. Chemo is done, just another hour with cold cap on. PICC line was not stressful at all- hardly felt a thing and it was interesting seeing the ultrasound, and then down to x-ray to check position. The worst bit was the first 10 minutes of the cold cap- it was excruciating, nearly gave up! But the nurse said just grit your teeth for 10 minutes and then it did ease. And I had a bit of a panic attack with a mask on as well, so they just told me to take the mask off. Loaded with oral and infusion anti sickness, and a bag of anti sickness stuff to take home too. Someone had arranged for me to have a chemo gift bag as well which was a lovely surprise. The chemo itself took less than an hour, and was fine throughout, even had my lunch!!! Everyone is so lovely. And theyā€™ve confirmed I only need 6 cycles not 7. So glad Iā€™ve started

Were you all advised to take antihistamines pre injections- start those tomorrow. All the USA ladies seem to routinely take them

Yes, i was advised to but didnt hold if the right ones till after my first set of injections. But i am loaded up now for tomorrow. Out of curiosity what time of day do you do your injection? I was told best in the evening to sleep off the effects, but i am such a light sleeper that i didnt sleep at all, so I was thinking of doing it first thing so i can keep moving and keep on top of side effects?
