Does anyone else paint their nails black?

@mlp74 Noā€¦and I have a feeling that the Look Good etc Nails workshop lady said not to  I will wrack my brain and check my notes in the morning to let you know if thatā€™s true!

@belle1 @pollyanna1 @ivy-cat - is there any chance that your throat is sore from indigestion? Mine often feels like itā€™s burning inside and horrible to swallow, so I was wondering :thought_balloon: Iā€™m sure youā€™ve already thought of that though!

For me itā€™s a separate thing as I had really bad indigestion/heartburn after the first EC so ended up on omeprazole and getting the doze doubled to get rid of itā€¦. Still on the double dose and blissfully no indigestion or heartburn this time round. Itā€™s a good idea to consider though as I had both the sore throat and indigestion burning in it last time!

@mlp74 no, and the lady in the class said no need for them to be black and you could do them a nice deep red or something instead? Thereā€™s not much evidence for it but she did say she thinks it does help but that itā€™s the pignments in darker ones (not just black) that help. I think as long as youā€™re using cuticle oil and filing and moisturising regularly thatā€™ll help tooā˜ŗļø Iā€™ve not painted mines at all as I started using polybalm before chemo (on the recommendation of my BCN) and I canā€™t paint them with that as it needs to go on the nails/cuticles every dayā€¦ I was looking forward to having red nails toošŸ˜‚

Morning guys! Just loaded up on my steroids and anti sickness so hoping these will kick in soon. Iā€™m probably being stupid but what could happen to our nails as Iā€™ve just seen the painting nails question? I know your skin can get sore but didnā€™t know much more? H xx

Itā€™s not stupid at all - I didnā€™t know anything till my BCN told me. They can go red/inflamed at nail beds, brittle, split down the middle or if they catch they could lift from the nail bed or fall off etc due to damage caused by the chemo. I sound like a look good feel better fanatic here but I done their nails workshop and it was really good. There are videos online too in their tutorials section about nail care:

Itā€™s a whole new world of stuff we didnā€™t know about eh!!

Thanks @belle1 sounds similar to what I had read but didnā€™t know deep dark colours other than black so thatā€™s good news! Iā€™m sick of black! My understanding is itā€™s about keeping the light away from nails - so not using the nail light etc and making sure the whole nail is covered. But as you say I donā€™t think that there is much evidence based research around this so not sure whether itā€™s worth it .

Yep that was mentioned too in one of the workshop about it being light protection. I would be sick of black too - at least you can experiment with other nice deep coloursā˜ŗļø she just said to take it off every 3 days or so to check for infection/nail changes that may be happening under the polish

Hi @altoan, Iā€™ve really bad indigestion and notice my throat is definitely worse this time. Manukau honey helped last time but not this time. BCN said its cumulative effect of Doxorubicin. Going to ask if I can increase omeprezole.
Is anyone else here on Doxorubicin and Cyclophosphamide and noticing side effects worse as times goes on.

Hi all, radio silence here, Iā€™ve just had a read through trying to catch up and Iā€™m glad to see you are all doing well through the numerous side effects, I wonā€™t try to individually reply as my brains not up to it,
Iā€™ve had an awful couple of days following 3rd EC Iā€™m on day 7 today and had awful headaches and generally feeling unwell since yesterday, had lots of rest and feeling a little better at the min, Iā€™ve also been having like a pulsating noise in my ears like I can hear my heart beat??? Anyone else have this? Xx

Oh thanks for that. Iā€™m going to book in one of those courses. I have booked into the makeup and skin care one at a maggies centre so Iā€™m looking forward to that. Some help with how to do eyebrows will be good! I havenā€™t been putting anything on my nails so will get some cuticle oil now as I have found this last week my skin around my nails getting a bit more flaky. H xx

I finally have some good news. Feel like every trip to the hospital so far has resulted in being told that things are worse than initially thoughtā€¦ so, was pretty apprehensive for my halfway scan today! But my tumour has shrunk from 2.7cm to just under 1cm :dancer:t3: and the two smaller tumours next to it have disappeared. Such a relief and feeling a bit more positive about my appointment with the oncologist on Monday now.
Hope everyone is OK? @elle16 Iā€™m also feeling really rough after my third round of EC, hopefully it will ease for both of us soon x

Thanks for all the well wishes, and the response to the similar symptoms, feel better knowing Iā€™m not the only one, sometimes I feel like Iā€™m imagining things and have to remind myself itā€™s side effects of the treatment and Iā€™m not going mad, wishing the days away to feel better and to taste.
Someone mentioned tasting a banana the other day, now thatā€™s a goal , whoever it was hereā€™s a big thumbs up :+1:t3: , the small achievements mean so much
@ivy-cat thats great news , over the moon for you
