April 2024 chemo starters

How are you this morning @isthisreal ? Xx

@gromit12 was it your first injection last night? How did that go?

@isthisreal Just pretended it was an EpiPen!!! And stabbed it in. Took ibuprofen just in case and Iā€™m taking Loratadine too, though forgot to ask about it, and no adverse effects- yet! Slept better. Woke with mild nausea so took all the antiemetics on offer and have managed a bit of breakfast. Low level headache but thats bareable. Appetite has changed, and only drinking ribena and milk. Will try and get out for some fresh air later. Was supposed to be running a 50km race today!!! If only :rofl::rofl::rofl: hang in there xx

Hi all you lovely ladies, sorry havenā€™t been on in a bit. Iā€™ve had a few complications from my initial surgery, abcess in breast area not healing great and am having it dressed everyday and been on antibiotics over a week with another week to go. Will know on Monday if Iā€™ve to have more surgery. I didnā€™t want to come on and frighten anyone who was just about to start chemotherapy, as this was just a complication from surgery that can happen. Itā€™s looking like my second cycle will be postponed.
Iā€™ve reading all the posts and hereā€™s a few things that Iā€™ve had or prescribed this last week.

Anti sickness meds 3 times daily really helps with nausea and the fuzzy heads until it stops.( I didnā€™t know you can continue taking these) will definitely know for next cycle
Manuka honey spoonful everyday helps with sore throats.
Be careful with sore mouth that itā€™s not thrush Iā€™ve been given nystatin and itā€™s very good for ulcers also.
I also am taking an antihistamine everyday.

Sorry for the long post but hopefully everyone keeps well. Xxxx

@pollyanna1 sorry youā€™ve been having such a tough time, and thanks for the advice. Did you have your surgery pre chemo?

Sounds like youā€™ve had a really tough week. Wishing there was a magic wand to solve BC in a minute for us all! Sending virtual hugs and big well done for hanging in there!

I had lumpectomy 8th March then took a bleed 10 days later and needed more surgery to stop it. Had an X-ray for chest 3 weeks before chemotherapy. Started chemo on the 27th March. Report for chest X-ray came back 28th March that I had an abscess If known chemo wouldnā€™t have started the day before. Chemo has made the abcess worse as body not fighting infection great. Currently they trying to get this under control before next cycle.
Iā€™ve had a difficult week mentally with so many appointments with surgeons, oncologist and nurses. Iā€™ve finally today got my positive head on again and taking it one day at a time xxx

Hi Ladies, my friend pointed me in the direction of this charity that gives out chemo kits with lots of useful bits and pieces in it. Itā€™s just arrived and it has put a big smile on my face. If anyone else needs a little treat along the way: ā€˜Chemo Kits - Cancer Support UK

@pollyanna1 Youve been through a lot, but I can sense your positive attitude which will be giving your body strength to get through this. Thank you for sharing your story, like you say none of us want to concern others but personally I also take strength from hearing how other women are coping with these challenges. I wish you well for the coming week and hope for a smoother time for you.

@altoan, thank you so much means a lot to be able to talk with others and share experiences. Iā€™m currently awake with bad heartburn, I knew those few jelly babyā€™s was a bad idea earlier lol

Hi, I have also had this amazing box from little lifts, they have thought of everything even to plastic cutlery which I would never have thought off. I was so touched to have received it. Hope everyone is feeling abit better today. Ive got new patient meeting on Tuesday & hopefully clear some things up for me, then my 1st chemo on 18th. Did everyone get flu & covid jags before starting ? Iā€™ve been told I need them but no date as yet (I only have 3 days now that I donā€™t have any thing planned for before chemo :woman_shrugging:) also got my appointment through for a heart trace.

@ivegotthis01 Flu or Covid jabs werenā€™t mentioned to me at all, although as a healthcare worker I did have both in the winter of 2023 (little did I know then :face_holding_back_tears:)
I applied for a Little Lifts box too, they are just lovely :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thatā€™s weird, or they can already see youā€™ve had them. Its such a lovely box off gifts :heart_hands::heart_hands:

@ivegotthis01 that box is lovely, so thoughtful. Regarding flu and COVID jabs, I had my flu last autumn and tried to get a COVID pre chemo but not currently available. I mentioned this at my pre assessment and the nurse said if Iā€™d had 3, which Iā€™ve had that was fine. Weā€™ve just been out for roast dinner at the farm shop which I really enjoyed, and it meant my husband got a decent meal too :+1: hang in there ladies xx
