April 2025 chemo starters

Take your antisickness meds even if you are not feeling sick  also anosol cream and baby bum wipes will be your friend, I used to start on senokot 4 days after chemo infusion after first one caused monster botty block on fec :face_with_peeking_eye: you’ll all find what works for you  taxol gave me lava bum but you can control that using Imodium and upping carbs but I always checked everything out with my team calling rapid redline to make sure all ok. If your antisickness meds don’t work, ring your team they will tweak till they get combination right for you, don’t struggle through thinking this is chemo :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Hi there. I’m reading all your comments and you’re all amazing. I’m starting 4 rounds of TC on the 10th, which took me surprise as the plan was always to have surgery and radiation but then my oncotype score threw a spanner in the works. I’ve had a few weeks to get my head around it and just want it to start now. The waiting is making me nervous and can’t stop googling. Anyway, glad I found this group. Good luck everyone.

@bluecat1 hope you’re feeling a bit better. Like @Shi says take your medication before you need it! With metoclopramide I took one on leaving the unit, and then 3 times a day to prevent nausea- much easier to prevent than control. Also I started taking the laxido the day after chemo knowing the ondansteron in particular would cause constipation - another anti sickness. And if you have any concerns call you helpline. Xx

@saints33 hope you get some sleep, and will be thinking of you tomorrow. It’s better once you’ve started :two_hearts::two_hearts:xx

Good morning Ladies!
I had a single mastectomy (R) on 26/02/25 with removal of 24 lymph nodes (4+). I’ve been taking Letrozole for nearly 2 months (10yrs) and I’m having zoledronic acid infusions every 6 months starting 24/4/25 (3yrs).
I had my first meeting with the oncologist last Friday 4th April. The oncologist said I was borderline but had to recommend chemo due to no. lymph nodes. Suggested chemo was 6x fortnightly + 6x weekly sessions so 12 sessions over 18 weeks. I was also offered a targeted chemo drug called abemaciclib. It’s to be taken daily for 2 years & overall seemed a much better option, so on the day I opted for this. However over the weekend I’ve done more reading up on this drug and now feel it would be better to ‘blitz’ the chemo over 18 weeks so I can (after 15 rounds of radiotherapy!) start to recover, put it behind me and hopefully get back to a normal life quicker.
I am going to call the team this morning to talk through the reasons for my change of plan and hope they’ll understand and not think I’m a damned nuisance. I’m scheduled to start my chemo journey 24/04/25.

Good morning @genericuser1 and welcome to the group.
I too am a chemo newbie (see my earlier post) and can so relate to what you’ve said. I’m usually so in control of my life and a forward planner but have had to write 2025 off. Chemo terrifies me tbh. It’s the fear of the unknown especially as I’ve been a healthy, active person.
I’m psychologically trying to prepare myself, especially for hair loss. I’m going to make an appointment at the wig shop this week!
Good luck with your upcoming treatment. Reach out at any time, the ladies on here are truly wonderful.

That was me, lots of googling. I’m on the same, 4 rounds of TC, on day 6/7 now of my first cycle. It’s been ok, rough day yesterday, so I will take my extra sickness meds sooner next time. Thinking of you for the 10th. Feeling brighter this morning, so hoping I’m on the up :pray::pray:

Aye, it’s so hard to write off a whole year and I’m really pissed off and frustrated, I had juuuuust got my life to exactly where I wanted it and had such dreams and plans to make it even better, which are now all completely ruined. I make jewellery and delicate miniature artworks as a hobby/side business and am so so scared that the chemo-induced neuropathy will be bad enough to rob me of that forever.

I’m currently swinging wildly between ‘Hells yeah! Let’s do this! Kick cancer right in the face!:muscle:’ and quietly trembling with fear and panic about the utter body-horror I am about to face.

I’ve barely been eating or sleeping properly since diagnosis and am dropping weight which I really can’t afford to lose at this point. I’m usually a really strong person and have been through a lot in my life but I think the utter, neverending horror of this situation has broken me a bit. Even if I somehow make it through chemo, I still have surgery, radiotherapy and a decade on tamoxifen to look forward to…

But I’ll fight the good fight, because I’m a stubborn gal and while this thing can try its best to ruin me, it will not win!

Thinking of you today x

Thank you! Just finished. All went well. Other than the major panic attack I had this morning :face_with_spiral_eyes: Praying the Lord is kind to me and I’m able to manage the effects so that I can care for my kids :pray:t4::pray:t4::pray:t4:

Never feel like a nuisance. Never. This is your life and if I’ve learned anything so far it’s that you have to be your own advocate. You got this :muscle:t4:

Hope you are all doing ok ladies. Just got to the end of my first chemo session, thankfully got the ice machine off my head now. I couldn’t wait for the hot drinks trolley to keep coming round, I was cccold! Sitting out my observation time now but feeling fine, drinking water for all I’m worth while my lift gets across town.

Hope it wears off soon

Hey, so how soon after your first one did you feel unwell? I’ve only started today and feel awful. No temp but my back and neck and head are hurting so bad. Feel so weak  seems too soon!

@saints33 We’re all different, drink as much liquid as you can manage and just take care. Ring your helpline if you’re worried.

Drink lots of water, keep taking your temp, and if you’re concerned about ANYTHING then phone the 24/7 number. Also keep a diary on how you feel each day. Take care and keep on top of all of your tablets x
