Darling buddies from May - moving on

Happy birthday Lisa.
Spill the beans about the weekend
Sorry you and Lily are at work today but it sounds like your weekends were busy and hopefully fun.
ED did the Tough Guy challenge yesterday, supposedly the safest most dangerous thing you can do! As it was a distance away we didn’t go to see her but if she does it another year we may do as she said it was a great event, 7000 take part in it!
Good luck today Val (1), hope your onc can sort you out.
Hugs to all
Nicky xx

Hi everyone, Well I didn’t get any treatments or transfusions today but I did have a longish meeting with my Oncologist.
To summarise she is going to arrange a blood transfusion and I will be getting my Bone strengthening infusion every 3 weeks instead of 4 weekly to coincide with chemo. I am starting chemotherapy of Capecitabine which I have been on twice before and she is arranging an MRI Scan and this may lead onto a CT scan. I have to use my pain patches again when my back becomes sore. This may sound a lot but it is what I expected and we discussed different things that could be done. Capecitabine has worked for me in the past but I did develop sore hands and feet so will have to keep a close eye on that. I found out that I have shrunk quite a bit! I used to be between 5’4 and 5’5 and am only just over 5’2 now. I have lost weight as well but I am pleased about that! I did ask her if taking my chemo pills would stop me going to France on holiday and she said it would be fine to go…great news for me.
I am rather tired so not commenting on everyone’s posts but I have read them. Night night girls. Sweet dreams, Love Val

Hi,
Happy birthday Lisa hope you had a lovely day and let us know what you have been up to
Val well although I am sad that you have to face the side effects of chemo again, I am hopeful too that it can do a bit of slam dunking with the C cells and keep them a bit quieter. Hopefully the blood transfusion will be soon and bring you some energy to do everything your head wants to do. It would be lovely to start planning your summer and seeing the family. The onc sounds like a positive but realistic person who is going to let you balance health and living life sensibly so tres bien x.keep us posted when your visits are, you know we like to join you in the cyber waiting room and hold your hand x.
Nick, what is this tough guy thing, I have not heard of it? I am guessing very physical. Any decisions on the car yet? I followed a pale blue one tonight and in that colour it looks very like my mum’s nissan, which it didn’t so much in white. Strange how colours go with different cars.
Well not much news from me, just a lot of schoolwork to do and popped out to see a friend.
Lily x

Thanks all, I’m alive just lol! had an amazing night away but oh dear things are blury from about 8pm onwards, had a lovely meal, comedy night was sooooo funny and staggered home at 4am, we were very girly and think that they men thought it was fun that there was girls out over the age of 18 so we go lots of free drinks mind we arent a girly lot so we tend to amuse, i havent laughed so much for ages and done me the world of good but not the next thing to look forward to is hospital :frowning: had a fab day thank you go lots of lovely pressies, parents bought me a holdall on wheels and vanity case which are nice and christened them before hospital, went out with friend today for lunch and then she had bought me a radley handbag (she said everyone girl should have one) and a sworvoski pen, lush, got lots of jewellery, comedy night, vouchers, wine champers slippers for hospital and lots of nice vouchers for when I have my flat belly, feel well spoilt.

Val, glad you have a plan in place, well not nice shrinking but the weigh loss is good!!! sounds like you are quite upbeat and hope the hands and feet dont play up too much, dont know if you tried that ā€œcow’s creamā€, wierd I know but my aunt swore by it…

Love to everyone else, back to it tomorrow, cant believe i only have 3 weeks left at work:-( xxx

Hi ladies
Val, I saw your other post and sending you more hugs
Lisa, what a great time you had and how lovely being so spoilt - but that’s because you’re worth it lol Stop counting the weeks! It will just happen anyway and all be over before you know it. But you do know you can talk to us on here about any of your worries, after all this is where the second set of Mums live
Lily, tough guy was on the breakfast news and in the papers this year although it’s been held for several years, googling it I’m sure will find it. ED sent me some photos of her doing it - water up to her neck, crawling under electric shock wire, huge obstacle course, and that was all after an 8 (I think) mile run! No wonder she’s aching and bruised! But she does love doing these mad things and is very fit having been a county level runner for many years. Quite unlike her sister lol. As to my car I have ordered it, hooray  Now just need to sell the old one! I’ve gone for white as it does look really good and the current pale blue shade they have is just too baby blue, bet you’d love it with your boys lol. They did used to do a really pale shade of blue that would have been nice but white it is, deity Lisa reminding me how dirty it will look :frowning:
I went for a walk with my friend yesterday morning and she’s now done chemo No 4 so it well on the way now. At least we can talk about our experiences honestly as its surprising the number of other friends who have absolutely no idea what it’s like and do tend to make such stupid, unhelpful comments!
Well, a cold frosty day here, and for most of us I would think, wrap upward buddies.
Nicky xx

Enjoy those hugs Lily, with Little Chap, Smiler and Baby! The christening sounds as though it went off well, but I’m disappointed you haven’t given us details of your outfit so will wait to hear about it.

Nicky the driving with YD is going well, I am not so nervous these days although I must admit she hasn’t been out driving for a couple of weeks and yes, teenagers can start learning to drive at 16 but can’t take their test until 18. So with 2 years of experience, I wonder why driving in France is so bad?? Have you noticed that on your visits? I haven’t heard of the Tough Guy challenge, and from your description it lives up to its title.

Val, it sounds like they are getting you organised with a treatment plan, but what a bummer having to go back onto chemo, although I suppose you knew in yourself it was a probability. I hope that it will be kind to you, will you lose your hair again?

Lisa glad you had a wonderful birthday, back to the diet now I suppose? I liked your FB photos of your tidy jewellery room, you can come and have a tidy up for me if you like – ha ha.

Yesterday we were on a weather ā€œorangeā€ alert as the meteo forecast was saying heavy snowfall in about 14 regions of France, ours being one of them. We went to bed last night expecting snow by this morning but, we woke up to rain! Our forecasters are still saying it will snow and by Friday temperatures will be around -11. It’s beautifully sunny now.

I’m going to have a moan now!! Our bl**dy new bl**dy dishwasher is bl**dy well still not bl**dy working so I had to have the bl**dy engineer out again. Guess what, our bl**dy brand new Siemens dishwasher needs a bl**dy new electronic card! We’ve hardly been able to use it as you might recall and last time the engineer said our water pressure was too high. The bl**dy same engineer turned up today so if only he had listened to me lastime it should have been repaired by now. I’ve said I want a new machine not a new electronic chip but I’m not likely to have a working dishwasher before next Wednesday, bl**dy unbelievable. So I am bl**dy washing up by hand, which I bl**dy hate (yes I know I am lazy). Moan over now!

Take care ladies, wrap up warm and hugs to all xxx

blxxdy hell peacock, how frustrating - hope you are wearing your Marigolds!
Sorry I haven’t been around lately. I went back to work, although only part-time at the beginning of Jan, 2 weeks after rads finished. Bit off more than I could chew really, boob blistered, toenails coming off etc.
and still get so tired. I felt as though I was going backwards.
Had follow up with Onc last week.He seemed amazed I should have considered going back before 3 months. Now signed off until end of March. I feel disappointed and relieved in equal measures.
I’ll go back and catch up on everyone’s news.

Hi,
Slenda well I am sorry to hear that your return was so negative but as you say just a bit too soon and I think we can all understand why. It sort of marks your return to normal life again. I was told I could not go back for 3 weeks after rads and I did not have as many as you so i probably would have felt yuk too if I had gone earlier. BTW I didn’t go back on a monday so that my first week was shorter and went home early for ages. Take care of yourself, you must remember how low these treatments have to take your body to kill the c cells. Hugs x.
Nicky the car sounds fab, how long do you have to wait for it? I am guessing it is brand spanking new if on order, how exciting :)Better buy yourself a new car washing sponge then  I will look up the race thing, must have missed it on tv.
P well you know I favour a bloody post, often having done them myself. Sort of lets the stress out a little. The christening went really well but we were not particularly posh as it was so cold and all wanted to wear trousers and boots. So straight leg black trousers, a swingy long navy and cream spotty top with a fancy neck and then lots of pearls. I was still freezing! Hope your weather continues to go against the horrible forecasts. It keeps looking like snow here but then warming up so just a bit foggy and then fine rain in the breeze but nothing too much. I usually have a cold birthday week so waiting for the full force to hit over the next few days lol.
Val not sure how you got on today, but hope ok x
Lisa welcome back and hope that was diet free alcohol or you will have a tough week :frowning: A radley very posh and very expensive, lucky you. Stop thinking about that hospital until we get nearer, this is still fun time before
Well quite a shock wehn I got home tonight as Victor was looking terrible and he told me he had collapsed on the commuter train on the way home. He has bashed his cheek bone but managed to not break his glasses and was well looked after by some very kind other passengers whose feet he was laying on. Not sure why it happened but I think he has some bug going down as he is shaking like a jelly but no temp. Took his bp and pulse and all normal so watching him like a hawk. He went to bed at 6.30 and was rather incoherent when I spoke to him earlier. So fingers crossed not something bad for him or anyone else in bed (me) who might catch it next :frowning: .
Son’s birthday today so everyone round and Victor just didn’t know what to do with himself, just didn’t move from when i got home, couldn’t even get his shoes off himself! Victor is rarely ill, possibly 3 headaches in over 30 years of marriage so not good at being ill. At least i know why the antenna was predicting impending doom now, had been anxious it might be baby and YD. Now anxious re Victor but he is a lot bigger to fight off bugs.
Will keep you posted
Lily x

Oh Lily, I think I would have got him checked out by the doctor. If anything worries you in the night please call the doctor out and if he is no better in the morning I would give your GP a call. I don’t want to worry you but this doesn’t sound normal to me. Hope he is okay.Hope I haven’t made you over anxious but it is what I truly feel. Love Val

Will catch up with all posts tomorrow but thinking of you all, Lily hope Victor picks up soon and is it your birthday in a day or two?

Catch up with all the other gossip later xxx

Poor Victor Lily, hope today he is feeling better and taking things easy, wise words from Val about getting him to the Doctor.

Nice to hear from you Slenda, and you mustn’t beat yourself up about not being ready to return to work. As much as you were hoping for normal life to resume, it is better to take things easy to begin with after treatment. Oohh that sounds sore, toenails coming off.

Hi to everyone, how cold is your weather - 4 here today, consequently the washing machine has frozen inside so I had to go to the launderette! The old washing machine is plumbed in outside in our unfinished garage, consequently below zero temperatures aren’t helping.

hugs Carole xxx

Hi ladies
Of course, it must be your birthday tomorrow or the day after, Lily? Can’t remember exactly but I know it’s near your sons. Hope he’s had a good day, although probably at college/uni? Poor Victor, I do hope it was something do nothing. It’s all the more worrying when they don’t usually get I’ll, or have something that’s a bit strange.
Splenda, welcome back :-). Sorry to hear that you are suffering a bit with all the follow on SE’s, it does take a while for your body to repair itself as it goes overdrive to sort itself out. Sit back and treat it as some extra holiday time/pay when you don’t even have to go to hospital  well worth it, especially as the days are getting lighter.
P , it’s very cold here as well, brrrrr! About minus 4 as well at times during the ay and even colder at night, possibly minus 7 tomorrow night! I’ve warned YD in Paris, as I’m sure she wouldn’t check ahead, and it’s unusually cold there for a city. Possibly snow later this week and minus temperatures all day. Hope the washing machine defrosts soon, at least you’ve got yourself an extra fridge/freezer for a while lol oh, and s*d the bl**dy dishwasher, what a palaver.
Val, good to hear from you and hope, all things considered, you are doing OK? I saw that you will be stocking up on all the creams for your hands and feet, hope it all works, with minimal side effects. Keep us up to date, but I’ll spy on you anyway
Hugs to all, just to keep warm, even if for nothing else!!
From a chilled out, literally, Nicky xx

Peacock sorry to hear about your washing machine problem. I do hope you don’t have any long lasting problems with the machine after the freezing conditions outside. (like the water expanding inside).
I was out in the garden in the afternoon filling up the bird feeders and the sun was shining. I din’t even need to put a jacket on. Mind you the garden is ā€œcouried inā€ and sheltered from the wind. I even thought about cutting down the dried out flowers but thought I may have to conserve my energy! Do you know what the words in italics mean and do you use the expression anyone? Think it is only Scottish people who would know!
Some of you have asked me if I am okay. Yes I really am feeling well apart from the tiredness and lack of puff. I am trying to rest flat when I feel my back begins to ache and am managing to potter around the house and do little jobs, even sorted out the clothes in my wardrobe as it was becoming difficult to find what I was looking for…all colours together and skits and trousers in separate section. OTT or what!
My husband acted comme chef last night and chopped up the herbs and veg and chicken for the curry I was about to make. So all I had to do was put it all together, add the spices ginger etc, stir, taste and do the rice and naan bread. It felt good to be able to make something without having a painful back. There was even enough left over to have some at lunchtime to save making anything else. All gone now so cannot offer you any!
My BCN phoned me yesterday and called back again today about a couple of questions I had. Both a CT Scan and an MRI Scan have been ordered for me but I am still waiting to hear about my blood transfusion. I am seeing my Orthopaedic surgeon next Tuesday and do not want the appointments to coincide. He is going to xray me hip and thigh again to see if the fracture is healing or not. So perhaps (?) that is the reason for the delay. So BCN is going to find out for me.
NOW LILY…I need to know how your darling husband is doing. I have been worrying all night and day. Please let us know ASSP. Hope all is well.
Love to everyone, Val

Hi Val
Seems perfectly OK to me about the skirts and trousers  Who on earth wouldn’t do it this way lol?
Curry sounds fab, shame you ate it all, I was on my way up to see you
Glad you are ā€˜OK’, we do worry you know. Can’t say I could have gone out anywhere today without several layers on, v v cold. In fact I went out to put some fleecing over my plants (I thought it about time I tried to save them this winter rather than letting them get the brunt of the cold and die off as usual!) and I had to have my puffa jacket on and my walking boots. I did look lovely I’m sure especially as I was wearing a dress and tights at the time.
Nicky xx

Oooh Lily, Poor Victor - it’s a bit unsettling for someone who is usually so well. Poor chap probably doesn’t know what’s going on. I hope it turns out to be nothing serious.
I had a nice day today. My sister came over from Kent, she and I had lunch with my Mum in the care home where she lives (we were just practising!!!).
Freezing cold here by the Sussex coast, but beautiful sunshine today.
OH going out for a well deserved drink with his friends tonight (rather him than me(. I’ll be here warm and snuggly with my 2 cats and a bottle of red…poor me. xx

Lily you around? How is your husband? V

Hiya All

I am leaving the page open too Lisa in case Lily posts a message.

A person can also be ā€œcouried inā€ā€¦pronounced ā€œcoo read inā€ when you have all the blankets tucked in around you. I love all these old sayings and use them all the time. My Mum always used to say I was thrawn, which is a sort of stubborn, wouldn’t do or even eat something if I didn’t like it. She worried about me as I was so skinny and would sit me at the table sometimes until I finished my dinner. If it was custard with skin on it I wouldn’t eat it at all, nor mushrooms, or cream, or fat on meat. Must have been a nightmare. But I always vowed I would NEVER force my own girls to eat anything they didn’t like. They either ate it or didn’t. Both of them cook from scratch and love most foods. I remember one of them writing her ā€œessayā€ about her favourite food,. It was baked crab in ginger sauce, wafer paper prawns, and suchlike. All the other kids wrote about McDonalds. If my husband and I were eating something like langustines we never offered the girls any, but they would ask if they could try a bit. It worked and now my elder daughter who lives in France often eats Oysters…not my choice though.
Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow, love Val

Hi,
I am so sorry I didn’t think about scaring you all. It was all a bit hectic with illness and birthdays to post before now. Victor is ok, I think maybe fighting off a virus but still not really clear exactly what but sometimes you never know with viruses. He has a slight headache, off food, just doesn’t feel right and can’t explain what, still light headed. I put him to bed at 6.3o last night and he slept until 1.45 this afternoon. Son stayed home to look after him and said he would go in and Victor would say ā€˜I’m getting up in a minute’ and when he went back to check and help him, Victor was fast asleep again. Apparently he did this numerous times? Tonight he went to bed really early and straight away he was a bit silly in what he was saying but perfectly ok before he went up. He says he can’t commute so no arguments about staying home again. He does have a slight temperature of 38.2 now. I was quite glad to see this as it took my mind off more sinister thoughts. His neck and back are aching but we have to assume that was from the fall and jarring his neck. His face is not too bad painwise as it is high on the cheekbone so he does not move it much naturally, just a red raised area going round the side into his hairline.
So still keeping an eye on him. I tested him for balance tonight and fine so can’t be his ears. People keep suggesting the doc but what would they treat with no treatable symptoms yet? Well thank you for your concerns as always and really sorry not to have realised you would be waiting to hear.
My birthday tomorrow so I better save my cake blowing wish for him
Lily x

phew, sounds like it’s just a virus and the fall together, virus does seem to wear you down, hope you arent worrying too much, suppose if hasnt many symptoms doctors wouldnt do anything. Well hope he stays in bed and chills out, you will be looking after him.

Almost happy birthday xxxxxxxx
