Darling buddies from May - moving on

I hope you dont mind but Im realy jealous of you ladies, I used to love my food could eat like a horse and still kept to my normal weight, put a bit of weight on during chemo, but have lost loads since. Ive got no appetite anymore must have lost a stone since Feb.
I love cream cakes used to be able to eat the lot in one sitting! When will my tastebuds come back? I just feel like Im wasting away.

I just feel that we get through the ‘major’ things but the ‘little’ things we struggle with.

Sorry Im having a major wobble today xx

Hi soulgirl
I found all the ‘little’ extra things got to me as well. We’re all aware of the usual side effects of chemo etc but it’s all the unexpected ones that really got to me. I also expected to bounce back after my last chemo but it took ages, hope you are feeling better today
Nicky x

Hi,
yup soulgirl if you read back some pages on the thread you will find us all moaning like heck about waiting for the last side effects to go. I got soooo impatient and then I got a stinking cold just as I went back to work. Also it gets a bit scarey when treatments finish as you lose your comfort blanket and have to go it alone. It gets easier and we all still get wobbles but the gaps between them get a bit bigger over time.Don’t worry I seem to be eating your share of the cakes too!! I made myself eat or I felt sick and my head thumped.
Hugs everyone
Lily x

hi everyone

hi soulgirl
like everyone said we all used to have a grumble, chemo is certainly like poison to the system, and takes some getting over, when i used to say about certain symptoms to onc months after chemo, he said the side effects do last a while in some, even when chemo finished. but hopefully youll be feeling brighter soon. be good to yourself, the rest of us certainly were. if you cant eat something nice, get something nice for yourself, weither it be a nice relaxing cd, or a new accessorie, the list is endless, but its good to be kind to yourself especially at moment.

i know what you mean when you say we get through the tough stuff, and then something small sets us off, for me its my weight at the moment, im more deppressed about that than losing my boob or anything else., but then i remind myself im alive, and that feels good!

take care glad you joined us, anyone welcome.x

Thank you Nicky, Lily200,Everydaymatters, your replies mean a lot :0).
Im a bit better today cos Ive got a very large bottle of wine which I have nearly finished. The stopping smoking isnt going well but Im hoping when I go back to work in 3 weeks it will make it easier as I wont have as much time on my hands.
Im going to bed now and lets hope I can sleep

Take care I will post again tomorrow xx

Hi,
hope you all had a nice weekend. I was in seventh heaven on Saturday spending 7 hours in wedding dress shops with my ED! We made a day of it and I so enjoyed it. Didn’t even mind the horrendous £8.50 car park fee in a ‘shoppers car park’. We had booked appointments, a must on Saturdays and saw a few things she quite liked. I tried on a few Mother of the bride outfits and declared for the umpteenth time that I am going on a diet.LOL. Then we just popped in another shop on spec and found 2 amazing dresses. Both look wonderful but one is £500 more than the other. Guess which she likes?? Yup the expensive one. So we have 3 favourites again after getting down to one! The hunt goes on. Mum of the groom has sneaked out and got her outfit already and got me in a frenzy. I found the shop she went to and they were Frank Ushers for £850 plus. Gosh! Feeling under pressure just a tad.
Lisa hope you had a fab time in Florida and brought Robson back a nice toy or something nice. Did you get my Minnie mouse ears? Lorraine half term is coming so a chance to do something nice. Nicky you will have to go back to work for a rest, the pace you are going! Did your appointment go ok? Soulgirl hope things start to look a little cheerier. I felt really odd after finishing chemo, etc. It is normal I think but scary.
Take care all
Lily x

Hi
Hope you all had good weekends - Lily sounds like she did! - and Lisa hasn’t got too much jetlag
My cardio appt went OK but he said to up the dose of the tablets, this didn’t seem to agree with me over the weekend (in fact my palpitations were lurking around in the background most of the time) so I’ve gone back to the original dose, which I was comfortable on. I know we are not meant to tweak our medication but sometimes you know how you feel better than the experts do.
We had another get together for my parents 50th, this time with some friends who had not been able to be included on the original weekend we organised for them. All very nice, especially for my Mum and Dad. Other than that a very quiet day yesterday - full of rain!
Hope everyone is well and keeping fingers crossed that the sun starts to shine again - how dreary has it been? BTW ‘my’ travellers have eventually been moved on and the council did eventually replace the gate that had been broken with a more secure one, so I can relax a bit more now and not worry about being spied upon.
Take care all
Nicky xx

Hi all,

Well I completed the race for life (not that the walk was that long) but the weather was truly awful and we all got drenched through although my son said that means I earnt the money I had raised (thought I had already done that!) anyway I raised £725 so I am very pleased with my efforts. My friend’s daughter came in 1st!!! in 20 mins mind you she is only 20 and doing a degree in sports. I think I may have come in around the 3,500th mark!

Soulgirl you mentioned you are still having real trouble eating due to the disgusting taste I too suffered with that for ages during and after chemo and it was only when I was advised by a nutrionalist to take acqueous zinc drops in mineral water just a teaspoon a day that it eventually got better. Not gone completely but soooo much better apparently whenever the taste buds are affected it is due to the lack of zinc so it may be worth a try.

Nicky lucky you going to Dorset that is my favourite county I just love it there. glad your cardio appt went well and that you are getting to grips with your medication.

Lily how lovely looking at all those wedding dresses it must be so exciting having such a great family event to look forward to you deserve it! and thanks for the info re the mammogram mine is going to be on the 9th June aghhhhhhhhh!

Tracy I too have a really hard lump where the op was and like Lily was told it is down to scar tissue but it does make me feel uncomfortable mentally and physically if I lie on my stomach but I guess we just have to keep an eye on it.

Well I have now been given my reduced hours at work but they do not come into effect until June so at present I am working as much as possible to get a bit of money behind me hence the lack of contribution to the site.

All this talk of cream cakes has made me really hungry and I am desparately trying to lose a bit of weight. Most of my friends are small so it makes me feel even bigger! I must find some new friends ha ha that are on the large side. Not really it is my friends and this site that have kept me sane during the past year.

We are hoping to go out to France for a long weekend at the beginning of June to see our daughter as she has a bit of time off work and we can catch up with her which I really need to do as last year when she came home I was too ill to enjoy the visit. So fingers crossed that will happen.

Anyway I am now going to have a cuppa and I need a biscuit with it as you have all made me feel hungry. It is not good for my diet coming on this site.

Could someone pass on to me Tommy’s webpage again as I would love to see the wedding photos. Thanks!

Love to all and take care.

hi everyone

lily 2000
have you decided what colour you want for your outfit. i love a good excuse for getting dressed up, and your daughter getting married certainly qualifies you. ive been hunting for an outfit for my celebration party, it needs to be yellow, cos ive said on the invitations “dare to wear something yellow” so i think id get mobbed if i didnt go for it myself. ive ordered yellow and orange balloons as well and am putting cracker size jokes on all the tables, i sm really looking forward to it. what date is the wedding?

nicky 08
sorry to hear palpatations are playing up, theyre such an irratation, i still have the pounding in my ear, yesterday it was more like titinus though,it sounded like a washing machine spinning in my ear, annoying!

bevvy

good to see your post, make sure you find time to chill a little, your still in recovery.

soulgirl
hope you feeling bit brighter

everyone take care, do something fun, and relax a little

xxxx

Hi everyone,
Nicky that seems odd to up your tablets when you seemed to be fine. Good for you for sorting yourself out. How long before you go back to see them? Probably better check ok to drop them. Another nice weekend for you too. Doers it get a bit quieter now? Guess it will be all exams and the firls moving out (boo hoo) next. Hated it !!
Bevy you have BIG friends lol!!! Count me in! We quite understand you trying to get the hours in. How disappointing for you to have it hanging over you. What line are you in? Hope things pick up before too long. Trip to see your daughter sounds a good thing for you to look forward to as well. Btw your hair is looking very smart and much more cover, well done. The money you raised was wonderful, congratulations. I don’t think I will manage anything like that. My ‘walk’ is in June, in fact the large t shirt arrived today so I better start walking a bit to get in practice. Liusa hope the holiday was fab and what did Mum and Dad say? Back to work pooooo.
Lorraine I was thinking of pink possibly with grey but when I went shopping I headed straight for greens and blues with very detailed jackets and unusual materials. I love the duck egg blue but I am rather constrained by what fits and looks flattering - no small task so I ought to start looking now! Remind me what the party is about and when, I had forgotten but think you mentioned it before. Sounds lovely and sunny.
Going to bed
Lily x

hi all, immmmm back, sunned an happy!!! No ears lily but I got my pic of me getting a kiss off my man, nothing exciting was Goofy!!! had a lovely time was such a surprise for parents, mams friend knocked on door then i appreared, mam cried for ages and dad didnt actually talk for about 1 hour!!! Was lovely, I would love to tell you im bronzedand beautiful but the truth is im lobster looking and blotchy, but do I care no!!!

Complex was lush, but awkward with no car but didnt think i would feel like this but with enough supplies I could have easily stopped longer, week not quite long enough. plus side, one wobble all week, thats a plus for me, plus bloody falsie was a nightmare in cosie so defo foing for double recon come what mays!!

Love to all and here’s to a fast week with a nice long weekend xxx

Hi all
Bev - lovely photo - you look really good. Can’t remember if you were grey before but it really suits you. Hope work is OK and you’re not wearing yourself out getting in the hours. If you’ve not been sent the link to Tommy’s page/s let me know and I’ll PM them to you.
Lorraine - do tell about the party - I can’t remember anything about it, or maybe you didn’t mention it? Sounds good though. Hope all the food will be yellow as well LOL
Lisa - you go girl! What a fab time you had and I recognise that rollercoaster! Is it the one you went on? If so you definitely are getting over your fears. Maybe the break was good in more ways than one as it has made up your mind about the recon. Inspiration in very odd places  So pleased that you surprised your Mam and Dad - does it take much to keep your Dad quiet then?! Now there will be no stopping you. We’re now thinking about going to Florida in the summer with our 2 girls. We thought we’d been for the ‘last time’ the last time! However when we talked about what they wanted to do this summer this (obviously) came top of the list - partly, as they say, being students for another 3 years , they won’t be able to afford it for a long time. Nice that they think we can! Have been checking out insurance which is tricky with secondaries but have had a good quote so will look at again in a few weeks. There’s lots of availability etc, one thing the credit crunch is helping me with!
We have ED’s art exhibition at college this evening then a 2 week wait to find out her pass mark which will determine if she’s off to uni in September - no pressure for her then! We’re into the final countdown for YD as this is her last official week at college. She’s been there 7 years so is pretty glad to be moving but it will all be new from here on in without any friends to back her up as they will all go their separate ways after A levels. Scary stuff. can’t believe this is it - no more education that we’re involved in, after this they’re both off into the big wide world of uni’s and adult life. Quite a relief actually!
Well, must go, off to work for the next 3 days then the Ball on Friday evening - nice end to the week - hope it stops raining!
Catch again later
Nicky x

hi there girls

lisaf
glad you had a good time, your mum and dad must have been so proud of you, travelling all that way to suprise them. and dads are often more emotional than anyone, so maybe keeping quite was his way of handling it. you brave girl, going on the ride, i havnt become more adventurous in that way, i dont like them at all, but often envy people who do,

nicky o8
you really are a jet setter, your feet hardly touch the floor, when are you thinking of going to florida?

lily 2000

sounds like your picking some nice shades for your outfit,. when i try on things, im looking for something that covers fat on top of arms, doesnt show bulges on back, not too low so i dont show scar. so up to yet, not found the miracle outfit.,

im throwing a party to celebrate a year in recovery, and to thank all my friends and family who where there for me, i picked yellow theme because it represents happiness to me, and im certainly happy to be alive, its worth a celebration, but finding a something yellow to wear is proving difficult.

everyone enjoy your week, dont work to hard leave some time for fun.x

Hi,
Howdi Lobster Lisa, lol, glad to hear you had such a good time and it sounds like it did you the power of good. Boo hoo to back to work but hooray for a long weekend. Well I get a really long weekend as it is half-term next week. This is the time I know why teaching is a good job lol. I am gutted that you forgot my ears, I was relying on you!! As Nicky says it is ‘great’ that your problems have at least helped you over that barrier of recons or not. Can you choose biggies, middles ot tinies??? I loved the shopping list, you must be impulsive when you see a bargain - me too! Hope this week is not too much of a shock. I missed you, it was real quiet some days.
Hi Nicky, well off you go again with all these fab plans, you are living up to your motto. Good for you. What a great plan before your chicks all fly the nest. I don’t know about they won’t afford to go again for a while, I think you might find it ends up you can’t afford to go, with bailing them out. Thats how it worked here!! I bet going to Eds art exhibition was emotional tonight. I am always so impressed by artists as I am hopeless, so got very moved when my ED had her graduation exhibition in Brick Lane. I was telling everyone she was my daughter and she was trying to be modest and act casual lol. No chance with me, I was bursting with pride.Hope littlun’s exams go well as I know she will be expected to get high grades, adding to the pressure. My son has sauntered through the exams, not doing anywhere near as much as he could, but more than he usually does. He has been struggling a bit as many of his friends are jumping ship as hate 6th form pressure. Keep your fingers crossed he will meet the requirements to have the choice to stay on. He had an exam clash today and had to be locked in a room for 3 hours between exams, which was really bad for him as got sleepy! Thursday is even worse as he has another clash and had to write 2 exams back to back and will again be sleepy no doubt. Boys! The girls were all so different but at least he never panics, too horizontal, could be a great deckchair attendant !! LOL. Still he has been unlucky to have all my c…p all through his GCSEs and As year and he has just got on with it and helped me so much, been a real buddy. Nicky have fun at the ball.
Lorraine, Bevy wants big friends,do think we should invite her to join the cake club?? Thats a thought hope you will be having abig yellow cake, yum. What about a dress with yellow and another colour and then add yellow jewellery, scarf, etc? Might be easier to find than plain yellow. When you find a shop that makes outfits that fit and cover all the bits mentioned, please let me know!
Hi everyone else, are you ok? I often wonder about Angie, Joanne, Kirsty and Julia has not logged in for a bit. Miss you guys
Lily x x

hiya all
Wo, food talk and dress talk my favourite topics!!! hope everyone well and thinking of those who arent posting xxx

Will catch up properly soon, take care all xx

hi everyone

posts are getting fewer and fewer, so i can only presume everyone is out having fun, and living life to the full. well i hope thats what your doing, and its not because youve all become domestic goddesses. just got back from local cancer support group, and they had wrote to local councillors concerning checkups following recovery. because the girls had recieved letters stating they were not to have check ups only every 5 years or something. so its being looked into. scary or what?

take care everyone x

Hi,
when I logged on the post shot to pictures of Angie and I have just been reading through her last posts. It is odd that it went to the middle of the posts not the start or end. I hope it is not one of my second sight moments, perhaps she is thinking about us. The posts in the run up to the wedding were so lovely and the usual irrepressable Angie we know and love. She said she was not well on 24 March, posted briefly on 26th and then a 2 word post to let us know she was married on 30 March. So I am thinking about her and wondering how she is and hoping that she is still having good times.
Tommy if you or anyone logs on for her tell we think of her every day and in cyberspace we are with her every day, sitting by her side
Lily x

hiya,im around just very tired, just getting around 3/4 hours sleep and got sooo much coming up im exhausted thinking of it all.

Really hope angie is doing okay i reallythink she would be on here if so could so worried. We have the same genetics councillor who I seen yesterday but she knows we know each other but obviously cant say anything to me. Lily where did you see the wedding pics, had trawl and cant find anything. Been on her own site, one of tommys and their company website aint working??!

Angie if you out there, im thinking of you every day.

To everyone else, hope you are looking forward to a bank holiday weekend, we get an extra day off on tuesday, thank god!! Busy making some wedding jewellery and t-shirts for a sponsored walk!!!

Hi
Postings are getting fewer but, like Lorraine, I hope this is because we are all too busy! I’m enjoying work at the moment, they are such a nice and funny bunch to work with so most days I end up laughing too much and not talking enough to my prospects! Looking forward to the weekend with a bit od sun if we’re lucky down south, hope you Northeners get some as well! Lisa - you must be freezing after all that lovely Florida sun. As I said before we will look at going in August once we’ve had ED’s results and know what she’s doing next year and before YD gets her A level results. Just hope I’m as busy at work as I have been so I can help pay for it! We have the leavers Ball tonight which YD is really excited about - I think all her mates and her will look lovely. This is the only bit where I may get emotional, other than that I’m so glad to be out of the secondary education bit and moving on to their own lives and choices. Plus it’s the last day today to get up and get her a cup of tea and breakfast, I can laze in bed now - but not till 11 like she suggested - some of us still have work to go to!
Some things I meant to have added - Lorraine - what a lovely idea to celebrate being a year on. I had a glass of champagne the other week when OH and I went away to celebrate being 1 yr on from the start of chemo and am enjoying every minute of being 1 more year down the road and still being here! In theory I must be better off than probably 2 years ago as everything has gone backwards after treatment (BC wise) - let’s hope it continues with all of us.
Bev - well done for raising money in the Race for Life - we just haven’t got round to entering this year. My YD wanted to do it and walk with me but we seem to have missed the boat. Just glad I sponsored my big brother for the marathon - that’s my bit and I walked about 10 miles that weekend! He raised over £5000 in all for BCC so well done to everyone who does all this activity!
Lily - bet you’re looking forward to half term - a bit of a rest with any luck. And then only a few more weeks till the summer hols - lucky you! Hope yr son’s AS’s went well and that he’s done them all - or do they continue after half term? My YD’s A levels start just after half term and then are strung out all through June. She still has some way after her friends have finished so I will have to stop her partying with them until she has done all of hers. A whole group (40!) are off to Bulgaria for a holiday at the end of June - best to be avoided for any more mature adults I’d say!
Lisa - hope the jetlag goes soon, it can take a while to get back into your own sleep pattern and the lighter morning don’t help. Hopefully with the extra day off on Monday you can have a long snooze!
Take care everyone else not posting at the moment, again I’m thinking of Angie all the time and hope all our messages are getting through to her.
Love to all
Nicky xx

hi everyone

hope everyone got something exciting planned for weekend, i wonder what we were doing this time last year? we wanted to go away for weekend, but youngest son has a football tornament so impossible. and no chance for a break then for ages. football as a lot to answer for.

had a meeting with macmillan nurse today, because some ladies i know are trying to set up telephone support for people diagnosed with b.cancer. we have a monthly meeting in our town, but thats not the same as having help the rest of the time, were trying to get into our breast clinic and be on hand for a chat to people, and hopefully be a reasurrance at this horrid time. anyone got something like that at your hospitals.
anyone im in the middle of a huge clear out, throwing lots of things out, which have been accumilating and ive been putting stuff off.
but having a major hot flush, so sitting typing this is underwear with window wide open. bliss…
have a good weekend all x
