Hi Ladies
Sorry I’ve not been on much this week, work interferes most of the time! I tend to come on here in the morning before work but I’ve been getting out for a walk, hang the washing out etc so haven’t given myself enough time. I also work with computers so, by the end of the day, don’t always log on here.
Lily - typical that everything need doing ie paying for, at once! We had similar a month or 2 back with cars and tyres and servicing etc. Spent a fortune when we didn’t want to. I know what you mean about driving unfamiliar cars, there’s always something they don’t explain well, or we don’t hear, that’s crucial. At least your is back now, unfortunately with a big bill attached. I haven’t given York much thought but I’m not ignoring it, I will re-read you posting and also see if I can find anything. I’m not sure of everyone’s budget? If I can get there I will only stay one night as I still have to work. Hopefully YD will know soon which days she wants to come back for a visit. We haven’t heard much from her - which is a good thing - as it means she’s getting on. Freshers Wek has been very full on, including enrolment and meeting her tutors. From Monday she starts uni itself and hopefully should have phone lines and internet connected in the apartment (read - room!).
Lorraine - so sorry to hear you’re having trouble. I hope the antibiotics sort things out but I know exactly what you mean about the extra worrying. It’s like a timebomb ticking away isn’t it? Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Bev - lovely new photo and so glad you had a great day. The weather has been such a plus this week - even if I spent most of it in an office! Our anniversary is tomorrow so I always notice the weather at this time of the year and we’ve only had a couple of bad (weather) weekends in the last 24 years, most of the time this last weekend in September is really nice.
Lisa - you little jet setter! Hope you had a fab time in Dublin and that Spain is a nice relaxing break. Don’t suppose you and your girlies will be having any late nights! LOL.
Anyone else who I’ve missed I hope you’re enjoying the sun. I’ve been picking my tiny cherry tomatoes which have done really well this year. The variety is called ‘hundreds and thousands’. We’ve certainly had hundreds from only a few plants but they take ages to pick! Other than that OH and I are out for Sunday lunch at a nice hotel nearby, my brother sent me a voucher for my birthday so we’re using it as a part celebration for our anniversary. We usually go away for it but we’ve done so much this year we’re just staying at home but both having the day off tomorrow to go out for the day.
Have a great day today and hope you are all OK especially Lorraine.
Take care
Nicky xx
hi there everyone
nicky
thanks for the well wishes, pain still there but a little better with antibiotics. tomatos are really good for cancer arnt they? so you should be really healthy at moment. ive found since chemo toms are one of the things ive gone off, but hubby says i must keep eating them, cos maybe the cancers telling me not to and im to fight back by eating more. (i think hes talking rubbish, but i suppose its not wise to cut them out)ive also gone off coliflour, have your taste buds changed? i can understand you not coming online so much when your doing that kind of work, but its great to hear from you when you manage to

i bet you enjoyed being disco queen for the night, nothing like a good jive eh.

how strange that your heal should be playing you up, i had the same thing last week., im sure its this tamoxifen playing havoc with our bones, and making them weaker. i take tamoxifen, not the other brand you mentioned im not too bad on them, the symptoms i do get, seems like you have on yours anyway, so i wont have to worry about stocking up. i have to go for a chest xray tommorow, and your right about me ignoring the scan results, im just hoping no news is good news. im feeling positive about it,but i felt positive before my diagnoses so who knows. what will be, will be. x
Hi,
just dashed on quick as late and had little chap so all behind with work for school. The wallpaper is finished and is very trendy, hadn’t realised quite how it would impact. Everyone else seems to think it is really nice. Curtains are up but too long so need abit of work there. Carpet next week and sofas arriving and thank goodness I will be able to put my feet up to watch tv, even if it is a tv for ants! I think I need glasses, well I would if we kept this old tv! This is very unlike us, turning the place upside down so maybe this is another side effect of after treatment is over!
Lorraine everything crossed for you to have a better week and pain slding away. What a great thing to say about the tomatoes, love it, quite like them too!! Good luck with the x ray although they are pretty tame for us old timers, just the results bit we don’t like. Make sure you put a clean vest on ha ha!
Nicky hoping York will work out and saw another place advertised in Telegraph with a discount and that was about £83 for a single but got to check if any meals included. Car is back in on Wed as the warning light is back. I took it straight over there and they plugged it in the coomputer and say it needs a different small part. So back to the big car that day! Hope the meal was nice and Happy Anniversary. How many years? Hope he made a fuss of you.
Lisa hope you have/had a fab time despite the skinnies making you anxious. They would probably be shocked if they knew as all love you just how you are x
Lily x
good luck Lorraine with the results and glad to hear you are feeling a bit better so hopefully it is an infection that will be dealt with by the antibiotics. Fingers crossed for you.
Lily house sounds fab we keep talking about decorating but that is as far as it gets maybe once the weather has turned we will get out act together. Yes I will try to get at least two months worth of tablets from my docs but I guess will have to accept I will be back on the original one at some stage. How is your heel I had real trouble with mine last night could be due to standing all day at work but it was really painful all through the night. I am going swimming this morning before work so hopefully that will help.
York sounds a great idea and I would love to be able to come but it will depend on the date and whether I can get there by myself without getting lost (I have no sense of direction) still keep me informed.
Nicky Happy Anniversary enjoy your special day! x
Lisa go girl! and have fun!
Hi to everyone else and have a good week.
Bev x
hi there
i tell you something i went through all of the breast care treatment and it didnt reduce me to tears like this ear infection is doing at the moment. 2nd course of a different antibiotic now and so many pain killers im on another planet, it will be such a relief when this clears up. had chest xray today as well so waiting for results yet again. not heard from bone scan or blood tests ive had previously so im presuming everything was ok.
i went fishing (well pond dipping) yesterday with grandaughter, we caught eight actually, but you could hardly see them, good fun though. she found a lipstick in the car, which she nabbed, i told her it was her grandads, so when she tells people that will get them wondering. ha ha x
hope everyone else hasnt caught any nasty bugs. take care x
Hi,
poor you Lorraine. It is such a difficult decision between pain and being able to know whats going on. I sympathise as I know how terrible earache can be. I had a bad one which had me in tears until it finally burst my ear drum. It was quite a relief when it tore to relieve the pressure but then I couldn’t hear and yukky stuff pouring out for days. Glad you had a nice day with your Grandaughter to cheer you up. Still keeping fingers crossed for the scans x.
I hope to get in to see the Doc tomorrow Bev as I’ve been too busy to get in before now. Will let you know what he says. I am also going to see him about my heels as they are very painful at times. I googled it andthey don’t go away on their own so will see what he suggests. Also has anyone’s eye sight got much worse as mine has and it is a side effect of tamoxifen. I wonder if it will improve when I stop taking it.It would be brilliant to meet up if you can. Victor and I are going to stay for 2 days as there is a lot to see and shops yipee. So I can spend one day with you and one with him. He said something about a transport museum!Yuk! I am definitely not doing that one! I can do any 2 days but would prefer to avoid Friday of that week. Is anyone able to make a decision about which day/days they would prefer - even if they are not sure if it yes yet?
My feet really hurt tonight after a really busy day at work followed by open evening from 6 till 9. I got in about 9.20 and feet are thumping like they have been hit by a hammer. I read there is a condition fasciitis which involves a tendon running from one end of the underneath of your foot to the heel and it did describe the pain I have. Even lying in bed they hurt just resting on the bed.If I point my toes to avoid leaning on it, the whole lot goes into a cramp. Pretty annoying but manage to keep going so can’t be that bad. Carpet went down today so at least that was soft underfoot.
Take care all
Lily x
Oh dear sorry to hear both of you are feeling grotty poor Lorraine with an ear infection ouch!hope it improves soon. And Lily with painful feet I was getting a lot of cramp but take a glass of tonic water everynow and again (sometimes it has gin in it!) and my hub gets really bad cramp after playing golf he is on numerous tablets for high blood pressure which probably exacerbate the problem so he now drinks tonic water at night after playing golf and can keep the cramp away so maybe worth a try.
What are the dates being looked at for York?
Bev x
hi there
thanks for well wishes. i wish you all good health too.been christmas shopping today, brought a few more, soon be finished at this rate. still got earache but not as bad as it was.
reading a story in take a break about a women who had eight children and found out she had breast cancer while pregnant with the ninth.
imagine going through chemo after giving birth, that must have been difficult.
going for an early night x
Hi,
Bev the dates are some time during the week of Monday 26 October. I forgot to ring the doctor on the way to work so no chance to go today. Hope I remember tomorrow! Thanks for the tonic tip, my Mum takes it too but I don’t like the bitter taste. I know you have to check whether it had quinine in or not, as not all varieties do. Lorraine I am glad to hear that your ear is improving. Fancy Christmas shopping in York?
I had a very quiet day at school today as it was a non-pupil day to recover from the late night yesterday. Tomorrow we have open morning so the whole world can turn up and walk around the school if they wish. Have to be on your toes so a stressful morning I think. Went out to dinner this evening with my local friends as we are holding a fund raising event at the weekend. It should be a good evening and hopefully raise a lot of money too.
Take care
Lily x
Hi,
hiding again eh? Been really busy this weekend with a fundraiser and we raised over £2000 for our local cancer charity, which funds a lab to look for cures and is working on why it spreads, etc amongst other things. Unbelievable that they have to rely on donations. Had little chap over night and he woke up at 6.30 after my night out eek. Then straight off to watch my son and his girlfriend do the run 10k race. Managed not to cry this time but very close several times. Then everyone in for dinner so still marking.
Hope you are all up to good things. My check up tomorrow
Love
Lily x
Hi Lily, Well done with the fund raising. Well done your son and girlfriend too. I so envy you your grandson but my 2 girls have told me repestedly that they are not ready yet…but keep hoping I will have a baby in my arms before “I go”…I am not being morbid…I told them years ago that I am not “going” until I have a baby grandchild in my arms…maybe that is why they are holding off…never thought of that… goodnight, love Val (Scottishlass)
hi lily
well done, it feels good to be able to do your bit.
im going to go on the daily mails web site cos i glanced at the front page, it had an article on cancer research and it looked interesting. i dont know if youve still got problems with your feet, but my heel is playing up again. i just seemed to be having so many aches and pains and i swore i would stop moaning, but its not so easy. i think im going to tell my family to stop asking how i am, then i wont have to be negative.
more christmas shopping today nearly done now. it costs us nearly double by the time weve had breakfast, lunch, and tea out. need a rest tommorow, when hubby is off we never stay in, and sometimes im getting tired, but then again how ive been feeling i need a kick up the behind, to keep me going.
scottish lass
grandchildren are lovely, but you will just have to be patient, or you could probably borrow a friends little one for the day, i find children very encouraging, and they moan a lot less than adults.
hope everyone else is ok, posts are getting fewer and fewer.x
express.co.uk/ dont know if this will bring you onto the page discussing cancer research, but i thought id give it a try.x
Hi,
thank you for posting scottishlass and Lorraine or I might have thought I had been sent to Coventry ha ha! Scottishlass it is best not to start me on Grandchildren as I only have one so far but as I have 4 children I am hoping for a football team one day Littlun is so yummy I am putty in his hands and spoil him terribly. He was unexpected but brought so much to all of us and has really pulled me through all this. He even asked to have his picture taken with my drip next to him, which he called Andrew! You sound like you will be really excited when it happens one day. I think they are just kidding but I see what you mean at the end of your post!
Lorraine I have that rotten heel pain and mine is there every day. I am trying to expect it and ignore it and no painkillers so far so can’t be that bad can it? I think it is fasciitis but keep forgetting to phone the doc at the right time to get in to see him. I had a check up with my surgeon today and all was well. I asked him about switching to femara and he said all my pains in my feet were likely to get a lot worse and be in my hands and other places too so not so keen to switch now. Better the devil you know. I also asked about lipofil as my chest has shrunk a bit on one side and he said it does this for about 9 months after rads and may get a bit worse. So I have an appointment in Dec with the lipo king to discuss it. There are some real downers about having it so need to think carefully.
Hi Nick and Lis and Julia and Bev, did you forget to invite me to wherever you all are
Lily x
on my lunchie break - back home, yuk. Lovely break, done nothing daytime apart from pool and then drank lots and giggled lots at night!!! Cough was awful, so bad it makes my retch, so much so Ive burst blood vessel in eye - wasnt too stressed about it but now back home, terrified, got nurse appointment today, worried as it said somewhere about persistant cough could be lung secondaries - is this so?!?!?!? Arrggghhh, hope its something simple.
Well hope you all okay, hoping to get my broadband working tomorrow! xxxxxxx
hi there
lisaf
glad you enjoyed break. try not to worry about cough, there are so many bugs at moment, uv probably succomed to one of them. thats what comes from burning the candle at both ends. (only joking!)at least it helps when we feel rough to look back on the good times.
lily
i too can manage with my heel, but its put stop to my walking, and that was helping with the weight loss. i suppose were going to get side effects with all the meds were on, small price to pay i suppose.x
Hi
Sorry not to have posted for so long but a number of reasons - mainly YD is still not on the landline mor internet at her ‘flat’ so I seem to spend my normal morning log-on session emailing and catching up with her. Also work has been interfering way too much! I have the afternoon off - that said I don’t get paid so it’s not exactly a treat - have been to dental hygienist to sort my grotty gums and teeth, having neglected them a bit last year on chemo. All seems to be going well and I’ve obviously learnt, after 40 something years to brush them properly!
A quick catch up then:
Sorry about all the aches and pains and coughs - hopefully all down to medication or germs. I ache in my hips every so often but am trying to reason that my mets are unlikely to have spread as an exact mirror image - I hope! Time will tell as I am now coming into the next round of scans - yikes! Probably a couple of weeks away but I’m due to see the new consultant on the team next week for a general appointment when I expect them to be arranged.
I’ve had a couple of busy weeks with YD and us chasing France Telecom, very stressful when we are here and can’t help much. Anyway we hope to have it sorted this week so we can then talk or Skype and generally catch up on her news.
Anniversary, last Monday, was very nice. OH and I went out for the day, a lovely lunch by the river in Kingston and some retail therapy for me, poor OH couldn’t find anything - never mind - more for me! We did get a digital photo frame though which is really nice to see some of our new photos on, just need to load on the older ones.
I’m really sorry to say but I won’t be able to make the ‘York event’ as YD is coming home towards the end of that week which means I will have to work during the early part of it. I thought this might happen but hope you understand that I won’t want to miss her being here?
Other than that not much else going on except I had a great day on Saturday driving fast cars round a track. I was given her husband’s place as his back was playing up so an unexpected treat. We drove a Subaru, Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborgini! Great fun. Not sure which one I will chose for my next car ha ha!
Anyway must dash, ED just got in from a soggy Thorpe Park and ironing beckons for me.
Take care lovelies - glad you had a great holiday Lisa and hope the room is nearly finished Lily.
Nicky xx
hi there girlies
wow nicky
fast cars and shopping your living it up girl! understand you not being on so much when your working, theres lots of things to sort out. dont know how you cope? i just wouldnt be able to get my head around work, but sometimes i wonder if id be better pushing myself even though i dont feel up to it, cos im sometimes feeling negative, and carrying on as normal may put a stop to that. feeling sore in lots of areas like you hoping nothing to worry about, dont see my onc till january. keep us informed of your results.
you could always put porsche on your christmas list, youd have to be a really good girl, for santa to grant that wish. ha ha
lots of love x
hi
Hello to Lily, Lisa, Bev, Nicky, Lorraine, Val and everyone else I have forgotten. Sorry I haven’t been around, we had our telephone line changed from the Mobile Home to our house, a move of around 80 metres - but Orange decided to cut off both phone and internet for around 2 weeks, Nicky, tell YD to be patient, she’ll need it if dealing with France Telecom or Orange (maybe she can get another supplier).
On top of all that I’ve had a few appointments, the hole has been dug out for a septic tank (no such thing as main drainage in our neck of the woods) and I’m off to visit family in London tomorrow for a week.
I see you have all been suffering some aches and pains, maybe the colder weather hasn’t helped? Me too, but I won’t go on about mine as I’ve mentioned it on other threads so you’ll be getting bored with it by now.
Our 14 yr old daughter had her 2nd cervical cancer vaccination last Sat, she was ok after the first but whether it is something to do with it or not she fainted yesterday - bit of a scare but she seems ok.
Anyway, i’m off to do some internet browsing, I really want to get a new tens machine whilst I’m in the UK as my old one seems to have packed up, so I’m going to do a price comparison.
Wish me luck, London here I come! Take care everyone
P xx
Hi,
welcome back everyone. You know Lisa taking a chance with that guy would be one heck of a lot safer than your wild lifestyle from the sound of it ha ha! Seriously I am glad you had a nice time. Coughs always seem to get worse when changing climates and hope they find a nice dose of bronchitis to account for it - you know what I mean by that Keep us posted. Lorraine I can’t walk far either although I seem to be totally distracted when shopping lol. After talking to my surgeon I am starting to think the Tam effects are maybe not a s bad as some of the others. Anyway no choice if I am being sensible and a bit pointless to have all that treatment and then not follow it up with tablets.Maybe moaning a bit helps Nicky the racing sounds great fun, how fast did you go? Don’t like to even hear about the dentist arghh scary stuff. I quite understand that you need to make the most of her visit and there will be other times. I can always pop you up on sky ha ha! Peacock have a fab time over here - btw it is chilly and very rainy. First rain down here for quite a while. Sorry to hear your daughter was unwell after the jab.The girls in my tutor group are about to have them.
Well Victor and I still plan to visit York and will stay for 2 nights as quite a drive and people to visit too. So just let me know if anyone still wants to meet at all as I would hate to book the hotel and find it was not a suitable day if anyone is able to make it. Victor is in my very good books as he has ordered me a nice pressie. The lounge is all done and very trendy for people of our age apart from the big tv which arrives next week and needs acres of wire as no cable here and have to rely on satellite. MD was 24 today and so everyone came in and I put relighting candles on her cake so we all had a good chuckle watching her and little chap try to get them to go out. A wonder the smoke alarm did not go off! We bought her a car (very old) as her’s is really dangerous and terrified Victor when he drove it for her. Little chap decided he wanted to pick her pressie and carefully selected 2 red and 2 blue stretchy bracelets. He even kept it a secret. A new thing for him.
Take care
Lily x
