Hi,
Well Lorraine hope to have you back on here soon and feeling brighter. Not much to look forward to about Monday I know but I am hoping it will suit you and do the trick so in a way it is good to get it started. Thinking of you. have you got the cream yet?
Peacock I am really sorry that the doc dropped that like a ton brick on you, it must have been a shock to hear that. I hope you are not too anxious as that is a long wait. I feel he was just talking theoretically, so just saying thats why we would do it but not expecting anything, more of a check. Icicles in the wind, yes a good description. I am freezing nearly all the time. Victor tells me we are wading thropugh gas and electricity this month. He is not cold - lucky him!
Lisa, or should I say Patâs daughter I hope you watched BB tonight. I laughed and laughed and laughed at that show and most of all when the others got the bigger costumes ha ha. Just watched David Blaine and saw how he did one of the tricks - not so impressed now!I cannot even think about getting my kit off to go swimming crikey! Well done. Fudge sounds much more fun lol.
Well I really cannot stand much more moaning, some days you feel like you canât win! How can you possibly keep the parents who want to go to work and send their kids to school and the parents who are disgusted that the schools are open and putting their children âat risk of injuryâ all happy? Even if you manage to bypass all that moaning on the tv, radio, everywhere you get teachers moaning they are in school and kids moaning they have been sent. That was one heck of a lot of moaning this week. Naturally I joined in too We have now been told anyone off to look after their children will have their pay cut so lucky my baby is bigger than me now. Hope you manage to enjoy the weekend everyone

Hi ladies
Iâm still living in Winter Wonderland, all very white and at least the sun is shining today. Still walking every day to get supplies! But OH managed to get the car out yesterday for work so also got me a few things from the supermarket - whatâs one of those? Iâve forgotten LOL. YD is due to fly back tomorrow so we are waiting to see what happens, light snow is predicted which would be manageable but a heavier load would not be good!
Hope none of you are having problems with getting out and about - just sounds like the moaners are causing Lily problems. Iâm so glad we had our extra oil delivery as I think the âemergencyâ lot they delivered before Christmas would be long gone by now. YD stayed at a friends last night whose boiler has packed up brrrrrr! Not good at the best of times let alone in such a prolonged cold spell - only another 2 weeks to go if the reports are correct.
Iâve not got into BB but my girls have been watching it. Also I donât usually watch any of the ice/dancing/whatever programmes but I might have to as Dr Hilary Jones is on it and apart from being the local âcelebâ my YD is friends with his D! How embarrassing for her!
Peacock I hope you are OK and what a thing for you PS to say! I bet that was a shock to say the least but good that your heart is healthy enough to deal with it Iâm hoping you wonât worry about it. You may not need any contrast dye as I think thatâs for the other organs, if you donât then the scan should be relatively easy.
Lisa - you are mad, I knew it, what are you swimming for? I would love to swim but it involves too much water for my liking;-) Good for you though and what determination to go so late in the evening after work, and when itâs so cold and dark. Hope you dry off properly after otherwise you could become and icicle!
To everyone else reading or writing on here have a good weekend. And big hugs for Lorraine - hoping you are being treated well in hospital and are more comfortable.
Nicky xx
hi everyone
thanks for the support, what would i do without you? i had drain put back in thursday, they did it in xray dept, and then let me rest on chemo ward for 2 hours and then i went home. my tummy is more comfortable now, some pain at night though. i was so exhausted the morning i had to go and have it inserted, hubby even had to dress me. and of course they expect you to be able to sit up and wait to be treated but i was fagging out, so had to get me a trolley to lie on. my neice was going to watch the procedure, but when they give her a chair incase she passed out, i told her to make a quick escape!
im still really weary and dont feel like doing much, but thankfully people are helping me get through it. my eldest son is trying to feed me protein rich foods, (i did have fortified drinks etc, but i just cant stomach them, so they do lose patience with me occasionally.
my nephews wife as been and cut my hair today, so it will be more managable, so at least i dont look like ive escaped from the looney bin now. i think i may have a cold coming on, but i really hope it goes before monday, because im ready to start chemo now, (scared admitently but know it cant be put off.
im sorry i cant read all the back posts, but i really hope everyone is having a good time, i know i will when i get chance!
take care all my love x
Hi everyone from a snowy and cold France!
Yes the snow finally arrived; it started late last night and has continued all through the night and most of today. I had to go and make sure the chickens were not frozen â and oven ready of course â and the snow was about 5 ins deep this morning. The chickens were fine I must add, and obviously coping well with the cold weather despite a bit of a shiver. I havenât done much today other than some cleaning up and wonât attempt to go out whilst the roads are like this. Looks like YD wonât be going to school on Monday unless we have a drastic thaw, but forecasts donât seem to say so. So ladies, I join you all with the pretty, but devastating white stuff!
Lily, sorry to hear that you are so cold, Victor sounds just like my OH, he tells me itâs 12 degrees in the lounge and that is warm for him whilst I am shivering, teeth chattering and the works! I am not going to worry about what my PS said, I agree with your sensible words, itâs just in theory and he could have put it a bit more tactful. The French usually donât do tact! If itâs any consolation I am sure you donât moan! You are always far too cheerful and positive!
Nicky good luck tomorrow with YDâs departure, hope she gets away ok and arrives safe back in CDG.
Lorraine, itâs good to hear that you are more comfortable but it is not surprising you are feeling exhausted and I am sure your OH was pleased to be able to do such a simple thing for you which you were physically unable to do. Too bloody right that you should be lying down while they did the procedure, I wouldnât expect anything less! Keep up with the protein foods, they will give you strength and help those all important natural functions that our bodies need. If you canât stomach the fortified drinks, can you manage things like banana smoothies? How about a bit of honey mixed into the fortified drinks? Porridge is a really good food for metabolising the system, full of protein, carbohydrate and essential minerals. I always found on chemo that anything mushy that I could just swallow was better than things I had to chew. I am keeping all my fingers crossed that the chemo goes ahead as planned on Monday so try to build yourself up a bit before then. Are you having to take steroids, if so that might hold things at bay. Take care xxxx
And to everyone, have a good weekend and keep warm
P xx
Hi,
Lorraine well done for getting through the drain procedure again. I think they should send dynorod in to see you Sorry, rubbish joke but trying to make you smile!Well I am glad to hear that the family are rallying to help you. ES with the sustenance, Niece keeping you company and someone else cutting your hair, which always makes you feel brighter. Victor putting your clothes on !! Ten out of ten for being helpful. I hope he had warm hands though! I hope you havenât caught a cold, thats the last thing you need. Can you take some multi vitamins perhaps, as you will not be able to take supplements after Monday. Do you have the tablets with you or does a nurse come to the house? I hope you get someone on the first one at least. Try to enjoy tomorrow and if you can try to think positively about the poison kicking the you know what out of those rotten Cs. Hugs x.
Welcome to the white world Peacock. Gosh you had a lot of snow. We are expecting a big load tonight and more tomorrow but no sign of it yet. It must be none or loads so that the schools close as far as I am concerned. I feel bad for the 6th formers though as Maths A level is on Monday so all the schools have to open for it. We have a waif staying on Sunday who lives a long way from school to make sure he can get in on Monday. He stayed last night too as Tescos sack and discipline them if they donât get in to work. It was taking him 2 hours from his home.Peacock I guess you have ready made frozen chicken legs ha ha.Oh my 12 degrees, I go mad if mine is under 20 and I still have 3 jumpers. Victor suggested that shivering would use more calories and then ran before I caught up with him. Grrr.I think you always, as you say, have the different French way and of course one of you is translating which always changes meaning slightly.
Hi Nicky I really hope that next big snow cloud has not got you in sight again!! What have you all been doing down there, it seems like you are under a cloud! Do you want YD to get going or are you hoping for extra snow to keep her home? Yes really good that your oil came, doesnât bear thinking about.Where is your first trip to, hopefully not for a few weeks so the snow has gone. Someone I know booked a trip on Easijet and they just said tough luck when the flights were cancelled. No refund and the hotel in Prague still charged them too. They even had to pay for their hotel at the airport so a bad experience as no insurance for a 2 day trip!
Lisa are you enjoying BB?
well better finish. I have been on the computer all day trying to write my dissertation. I will go mad if I donât get if finished soon. Canât even chuck it in as the school have refunded most of the cost of it. I am up to 9500 words out of 20000 max.
Love
Lily x
Lily cant believe you are struggling for words lol!!!
Lorraine, really hope you are feeling stronger tomorrow, that procedure sounds awful, the thought of being awake freakes me out, mind so does being put asleep. What chemo are you starting monday, if its the one that makes feet sore, my aunt swore by some cream that a friend gave her, believe it or not it was cream that was used to soften cows udders, yuk but worked, also body shop hemp cream worked for my hands - good luck will be thinking of you.
Glad some others the snow is calming down -its nearly gone here but my pic shows how it was bowt 5 mins from my house, which has eventually been gritted today.
Been doing lots of housework today and catching up on tv but feel guilty had a bottle of wine, was so good last night, had two small glasses, first of week, and yes i went swimming at 9pm again, my friend goes too and better for her cos of childcare but great for me when like this as only few people in, cos boy swim prothesis could bob on its own. dadâs scales showed no weight loss but couldnt get weighed in same place as decorating - better had after how good ive been.
BB - flat out last few nights but watched in bed, boy you were right Lily those mankiniâs and poor rapper i was laughing my head off.
So, when is our meet up? sadly i can only prob do for defo till end april maybe later in year will be okay but not sure, if some of you live nearer each other i dont mind travelling down but lorraine cant remember where you live, might be easier to come nearer you - will see how you get on with chemo.
Well bed soon, before lots more house work tomorrow!!! xxxx
hi girls,
good luck lorraine for tomorrow we will all be thinking of you. As Lisa said there is cream that can be used (if you do experience sore hands and feet) my brother in law used it two years ago when he was having chemo and it worked so if you need more details of where to get it let me know and I will check it out. Hope you are feeling more comfortable after the horrible draining procedure.
Lily I think being a teacher at present you are a bit damned if you do and damned if you dont (get into work that is) I feel so sorry for the kids tomorrow having to get there in time for an exam why dont they start it all later to give everyone a bit more time to be careful travelling. I like the idea of losing calories by shivering I must be shedding pounds!
Lisa I too have been trying to have clear up today we have started to empty our loft space aghhhhh which is crammed but we have someone coming in Feb to redo the insulation. I ended up looking through old boxes full of the kids school things and cards they had made so I didnât get much clearing up done. It is so hard to throw things away.
It is our daughterâs birthday today and she is once again away from us in France but we spoke on the phone and she sounded chirpy and looking forward to going out with her friends tonight.
Peacock sorry about the news you received not particularly helpful but but as the scan is not for a while yet hopefully that means it is precautionary.
Well I must to off and cook some fish for my little catâs tea we are thoroughly spoiling him at present (actually he has always been spoilt but that is the reason to have pets isnât it
Evening ladies
Dancing on Ice was good, as usual, not sure who I am routing for, itâs too early yet but I must give 10 marks to Heather for attempting to skate despite her disabilities, I donât like her but give her the due for trying. I thought Sharron was quite good, after all she has a disability too for a girl being so tall doesnât she.
Our flippin electricity tripped 3 times this evening which was a pain having to trundled the 80 metres to get to the metre to flip the switch. This is because I am trying to burn too many electrical items - like radiators to keep warm - and as yet our house electrics still arenât quite finished. Never mind, these things are sent to try us.
Bev I donât blame you for spoiling your cat, and may he enjoy your comforts as long as possible.I understand how difficult it must be today for you with your daughter being away on her birthday. The problem with lofts is they store too much memorabilia and yes, it is hard to get rid of things as everything has a meaning to us.
My arm is really painful, it seems to be getting worse instead of better so today I resorted to rubbing in some steroid cream to try and reduce the swelling. The top of my arm is swollen and bigger than the other one, so still feeling sorry for myself, arenât I stupid considering Iâve been through so much worse.
Anyway, night night to all xxx
hi everyone
thanks once again, for all your messages of support. tonight theres been a lot of tension in house with my hubby, having a go at eldest son, hes being unreasonable at moment.(hubby that is)but i find when im ill hes often like this, in denial probably. but theres nothing i can do about that, so im focusing on strength for tommorow.,
i still feel the beginings of a cold, but i want to start the chemo, dont feel safe leaving it any longer.
i havnt particularly brought any special cream, but i have some which i purchased in beatties, which cost me about 30 pound, i was convinced by some sales rep it was the best thing since sliced bread, so i ended up buying it with some special nail polisher and nail strengthner, it is made from dead sea minerals, so maybe i will try that, there must have been a reason i brought it surely?
just watched bb alex told by the tree to smash up snowman, ahhhhh
lily
i like lisaf cant believe your struggling for words,
everyone take care, dont work too hard, have fun x
hiya all, diet well and truely smashed, had few wines last night and mam always puts on xmas buffet which we had tonight, boy i love my family!!
Peacock, have you had your arm looked at re lymphodema, i didnt want to but the exercises and sleeves defo work and do stop the pain.
Lorraine fingers crossed tomorrow goes ahead, i can only imagine how you are feeling but the fact its pills somehow makes it seem bit mor manageable and praying for little side effects.
Hope everyone else had a nice weekend.
Dancing on ice - love daniel have done since series 1, heâs a sweetie and however her partners he seems to bond so well and really do what he can for them. Praise to Heather cos boy it takes guts but really dont like her very much or her hair.
Forgot to tape b.b tonight. seen that thereâs new series on next friday where singers take on being a opera singer - wouldnt normally be that keen but meatloaf is the judge and oh my god, sad it may seem but I love him, him voice sends shivvers down me and his humour if fab.
Happy mondays all and Lorraine hope it goes all okay, behind you 100% xxx
oh dear chemo hasnt gone ahead, they said its not advisable until the cold subsides, cos of drop in white cells, and may get something worse, im so dissapointed(can you believe that?)
but i dont feel well so hopefully by wednsday this little blitz will be over and it can go ahead. every day is still a struggle, i dont know how i keep finding the strength, sometimes i think ive used everybit and then i thankfully, get a little bit more.
hope snow isnt keeping any of you locked in doors, speak later. x
I have had chemo cancelled before and understand exactly how you feel. You donât actually want the chemo but you sort of get your head round the idea then when it is cancelled it is hard to adjust. But there is good reason for it and it will give yur body time to repair itself for the next chemo. Just wanted to let you know it had happened to me tooâŠand lots of others I expect.
SNOW is melting at last her in Edinburgh. It is still lying in the garden but the rooftops are all clear of snow nowâŠthe first time in weeks. And when we were out yesterday buying more birdfood it was 3 degrees instead of the recent minus 8!! It felt so warm. Love to everyone. Val XX
So sorry Lorraine to hear you are feeling too poorly to have the blasted chemo (although I know you must dread it you just want to get on with it now) hope you feel stronger soon.
Peacock hope your arm feels better soon maybe as Lisa suggested a sleeve may help to reduce the swelling? My ankle is still quite swollen and the only way to get it down is by doing exercises (so boring and not what I want to do what with exerices for the arm aswell) I am exercised out pity none of them make me lose any weight!
Well still confined to barracks as the village is still covered in snow and ice with huge icycles hanging down from the conservatory I keep thinking when I go out to put food out for the birds one might drop onto me and Iâll have body piercing where i donât want it! mind you they look beautiful.
I too watched the dancing on ice and agree Heather is brave and hopefully that will inspire others but I too donât like her or her haircut! what are we like.
Hope you got on o.k. at school today Lily and the kids managed to get in for their exams.
Love Bev x
hi bevvy/scottish lass
didnt expect anyone to be on here today, looks like im not the only one stuck in at moment.
ive recently had a bird table brought for me, but the birds arnt coming, what am i doing wrong, i have seeds and a fat ball on it?
bevvy your really good keeping up with the excercises im supposed to do them for lymphodema, but i think ive just give up at moment with everything else, arm is swollen but thenkfully not painful
x
Well hello ladies,
I woke up this morning to a lounge that was 3 degrees, my god was it cold! Then I went to fill the kettle with water to find no water, frozen pipes! Was I mad or what! A good friend drove me some water over (they live in the next village) so at least I could have a coffee, and then I tried to get the frozen pipes defrosted by pouring warmish/hot water over anything that was exposed outside, and although it defrosted the garden standpipe, still no luck with the pipe where it enters the house. I proceeded to wait for it to defrost naturally, but by 5 o/c tonight it still hadnât defrosted. I got out the hairdryer and managed to unfreeze the brass tap which is where the water pipe enters the house and thanks to a small leak there was an icicle about the size of a small potato. Needless to say what with lack of sleep because of my throbbing arm I havenât had a very good day. Today I resorted to taking an Ibuprofen and must say it feels like it has improved so I will make sure I dose up before I go to bed. I canât believe the discomfort Iâve had from a stupid injection! Maybe I am just a prime wuss these days. No more moaning. Our YD didnât go to school today as the roads around our village are pretty bad.
Lorraine what a blasted nuisance you couldnât have chemo, could they try you with Neulasta after you have it so that your blood cells get a chance to build up before the next one? Is your bird table a bit too near the house maybe? From what I remember with ours it did take a while for the birds to realise there was a fly through cafe waiting for them. I am âwillingâ you to have chemo on Weds so you donât miss a whole week and those nasty C cells are zapped.
Lisa, Iâm with you on the diet lapse, over the weekend I wasnât too good and made up for all the wine I had missed during the week!
Scottishlass glad that the snow is melting, although I think you might all be in for another onslaught by the end of the week? Hope it doesnât have such a devastating effect for everyone.
Lily, Nicky and Bev hope you are all ok,
xxx
Hi Ladies
A few unhappy bunnies on here So sorry you didnât start the chemo Lorraine - although Iâm sure you donât âwantâ it, it is good to get on with any treatment that may help - I think we all felt like that with our chemoâs before. I hope you shake off the cold soon so you can start chemo and that it helps you regain some of your strength and make life better for you. Thinking of you and sending big hugs (by the way that nearly came out as âbug higsâ - I donât know what they are but Iâll send some of those as well for good measure) xxx
Peacock - where have you gone? You are a shadow of your former self - this wonât make sense to anyone if you put your photo back on here before they read this! I can just imagine the choice words you must have been saying to the water pipes! I can just about stand the cold but if thereâs no water for a cuppa or washing or anything else Iâm not worth speaking to! Poor you, apart from the obvious that these things happen when itâs cold, they really do happen to add more problems and make your day bl**dy awful. I hope the temperatures rise soon so you get defrosted and no other problems occur with your pipes.
Lisa - a small fall off the diet wagon wonât hurt you! I hope it was worth it.
Must dash now as back to trying to sort out YDâs phone (arghhhhh) as she got back today after her flight was cancelled yesterday. That plus OH and both Dâs using the pc over the weekend meant I didnât get to come on here. Will catch up again later but back to work tomorrow as long as the snow doesnât come again.
Nicky xx
Hi,
Lorraine thats pants mate! The only bloody thing worse than bloody chemo is not getting your bloody chemo just when you have bloody got your bloody self all bloody ready for it and bought bloody expensive cream too to try to stop your bloody feet turning to toast. As you see I am quite calm about this :)I wanted to send you best wishes that it would be kind to you not comiserate about not having it. I am so disappointed for you and hope you are taking vitamins or whatever greeny people take to get over colds quicker. You mentioned Wednesday, is that a possible date? You didnât say does a nurse bring them and sit with you or are you on your own with a box? If you are on your own you must tell us what time and we can bombard you with texts to keep you company. Chin up buddy x.
Nicky can I have higs too if they are fat free? I couldnât get online either Victor was defragmenting I think he said. So I watched Forest Gump again, in bed.How are your roads now? Mine appeared again this afternoon.
Lisa - I think you just like meatloaf because of his nameâs connection with food ha ha. I missed the ice one but will catch up next week. I cannot stand that Heather Mills and will not put online what I am thinking. I am in camp McCartney.I am in for a meet up but will have to be school hols, will get back to you about it. The diet can wait!! Donât stress.
Peacock oh gosh too many disasters and as if you should be blow drying pipes with a bad arm!! No choice I guess. Was the bad arm from the swine flu jab? Mine hurt for 4 days, then my shoulder froze and then it disappeared but I refused to have the second one they wanted to give me. Or is it lymphoedema in your arm? Whatever it is I hope it starts to subside very soon and just take the tablets if they help. They might even help reduce the imflammation.
Bev talking about the loft! There would be no chance here as it is full to popping but I guess that helps to insulate it!!I am glad you at least got to speak to your daughter on her birthday, you cope well. I would not manage well at all if any of mine were away. Heaven help any partner who tries to fly them to foreign climes permanently. I think I would hire a hit man ha ha. How is catty? So sad.
Scottishlass all I can say is you must have been drinking iron bru and had your fair share of girders to put up with those temperatures!
Well had a nice evening just Victor and I and we managed to find a Columbo I had recorded. We have watched all of them but still cannot remember the plot each time. He is in my very good books because he put me on a jewellery website and said what would I like for my birthday and had picked some lovely pearls to see if I would like them. I want pearls to go with my wedding outfit. How long do you think I should wait to ask for the bracelet and earrings that go with it?? We were thinking of a party but son and I now think we want a trip so hoping it will be USA. Victor has not said âno wayâ yet, which is a good sign at this point in time. I just need to do a little research and talk casually about the kind of places he would like (buildings if you can help). It is tricky in NY as he stayed there for 5 weeks when younger and they got him passes to go in the white house, fbi building and loads of fancy restaurants and shops.Once I think of something that interests him he just goes along with all our plans quite happily. Best of all I had some apple crumble left over from Sunday and we sat watching Columbo with a mountain of crumble and cornish ice cream each. Guess I wonât be getting the scales out either then lol.
Take care x x x
Lily
hi all, will catch up tomorrow, but Lorraine so sorry for you, thereâs nothing worse, i know you dont want it but when you get geared up for it nothing worse than not getting it. Let us know if you are feeling better and how you get it on wednesday - hope the cold eases off as that will be making you feel tired too.
Yum, apple crumble!!! havent got weighed as scales broke so no idea if lost anything, think mam and dads gone bonkers says ive put 3lb on - cant of, surely!!
Catch up tomorrow love to all xx
hi everyone
lily
you echoed exactly how i feel, i keep thinking im giving in to this, but i havnt got a choice at the moment, so worried about lying about all the time, its a vicous circle cos im so light headed and larthagic try to walk a little and too much effort so i flop again.
my doc came today because i asked her if i needed antibiotics so i can get on the chemo, shes left me some but said try and let it clear on its own cos its probably viral, and can take a while. and i may feel better in few days but if im on antibiotics wont be able to start chemo.
peacock
really feel for you, have you lagged the pipes now, to stop them freezing more?
not much energy girls so hope everyone else is ok. x
Nicky, yes I have disappeared but only because I am trying to find another photo to put on and not, as I hope, because I have shrunk away with my diet and good intentions. I too could do with some âbug higsâ, they sound good so please could I have some? Did you manage to get to work ok?
Lily you have such a lovely way with words and made me laugh reading all your bloodies! Glad your roads are back. Yes my bad arm is from the swine flu jab, itâs still painful today so I think I must have had a bad reaction, itâs also red so I am still taking the Ibuprofen. Your birthday is soon, when, mine is on Monday next and I will be spending it alone as OH is still away until end of January. Victor has done some interesting USA visits and hope you manage to find a lot of interesting places to visit.
Lisa it sounds like those scales are wrong, all that swimming and careful eating, no way could you gain 3 lb â well thatâs my bit of support.
Lorraine, poor you, it sounds horrible how you are feeling, are you eating cos that would cause light-headedness if not, I remember when I had an abscess in my breast after the biopsy and was on antibiotics, my chemo was delayed too so dose up with hot lemon and keep warm, and it is important to eat which is difficult if you donât much feel like it. I have lagged the pipe that was frozen in the utility room and have also put a heater in there so hopefully it wonât happen again. How kind of you to suggest that with all your worries. You rest, rest and more rest.
Today has been a better one, no disasters YD went back to school and the thaw has started although we are meant to be having freezing rain tonight and it is blowing a hooley out there.
Only 2 Âœ weeks to go before OH comes back from work, I think itâs going to be a long wait.
night night xx
