Hi,
well I will try to be much calmer today and I hope Lorraine that you get stuck into the terrible tablets terribly soon. Have they said if your haemoglobin is low as I am sure that would have been tested and it always makes you feel like you could blow away in a strong breeze? When I went through tricky bits I used to think it was time to nurture myself. I turned off the clocks and just lived the day and times that my body wanted. I just listened to when my body wanted to sleep and when it wanted to do nothing I ignored all other responsibilities and vegetated. If you have little energy conserve it and sit tight. You can always rotate your ankles and arms occasionally to keep the blood moving round. How is your tummy swelling now? Stick in there buddy.
Peacock glad you liked my rant. I was actually laughing myself about how many bloodies I got in, but you know what it was warranted. Our docās receptionist got the Guillame Barre syndrome from the jab, I know some people are poorly. The jab contains some new element, canāt remmeber what its called but it means it can keep changing as the virus does. Which drug did you have, as there are 2. I had Pandemrix, which canāt be used on preggers ladies as it contains mercury, I found out afterwards eek! Is your birthday the 18th? Mine is 2nd Feb so a while after yours.I did not realise your hubby wa saway for such long periods of time, that is tough. Canāt rest your arm if you are on your own. Good luck with your arm.
Lisa I agree with Peacock. The bloody (here I go again) scales must have gone bloody bonkers :)I am not stepping on mine just to be insulted, after your experience. I can be happily unaware of the dire situation. I took my fascinator to work today which amused everyone in our office. Me sitting there with my pink and grey ostrich feathers wafting about!
Nicky can you see your road yet? My road is still very slushy but elsewhere pretty clear.
Julia where are you. We havenāt heard from you for ages?
Remind me to go for blood tests someone. I se the onc next Thursday.
Love
Lily x
pink and grey Lily, giving some of your secrets away??? dont forget to go for bloods.
Hey do we all have birthdays earlier in year? Mine 30th jan, day i found my lump before week and half of panic and wiating for results cnat believe almost 2 years, never thought i would see the day but hope we have lots more birthdays together.
Lorraine so sorry how you are feeling but maybe you need to give into it, lots of hot drinks and sleep as much as you want, im sure it will help.
Nicky you still have snow? Lily you have slush - all ours have finally gone! No swimming as yet this week as mate cant make it when i can but hoping to go tomorrow. have my 6 monthly check up this week and always have a wee panic that they will feel something i cant, mamo 8th feb too, just getting used to new normality.
Well my bathroom, i think i can remember wanting to decorate about a year ago, still havent got there - want it right hated it for the 11 years ive lived here, its peach and not nice - so spending all my time looking on web for funky bathroom furniture, shower (no bath) etc. but cant decide.
Hee hee just looked back my new year resolution last year was to loose 3 stone, think ive managed 3 lb lol bloody hell!!
hi buddies
started on some antibiotics today so lets hope they do the trick. i am giving in to how i feel i really havnt got a choice.
sorry your all struggling to lose those extra pounds, have you been watching the new diet programme on, i think its quite good i like the idea of the 100 calorie portions i think the shops should do that.
i actually cannot stand anything sweet at the moment nor hot drinks except bovril. my tastebuds are up the shoot, its the same as when i was pregnant.
well lily you have the hat, even if nothing else. you will have to go in your birthday suit, when is the wedding again, cant wait to see pics
nicky
hope everythings ok
peacock
hope youve sorted your pipes out. ha ha
bevvy
are you ok?
lisaf
no mention of men lately have you give up? what colour do you fancy for bathroom, im in to black and white at moment
take care all x
Hope the antibiotice are working Lorraine and that you are feeling better. It maybe an idea to get some acqueous zinc I was advised to use that from the Haven Trust and it not only improves your sense of taste (unfortunately I didnāt discover this until after chemo days) but it also helps build up the immune system. I take it in a little mineral water. Maybe worth a try.
Lily totally agree with all your sentiments! my poor little cat is basically just sleeping all the time. He is still eating and does pop out in the garden (thank goodness) but is very lethargic and his leg does look very uncomfortable but he isnāt limping so maybe it looks worse than it is but we will have to keep a close eye on him.
Some good news two of my close friends (hubby and wife) became grandparents yesterday! I am sooooo jealous practically all my friends have grandchildren now but my kids have assured me I have some time to wait yet.
Peacock your day sounded bloody awful (picking up bad habits from teacher Lily!) you poor thing. I hope you have hot water or for that matter any water restored and that you arm is feeling easier keep taking the painkillers.
Lisa keep away from the scales for a while it is absolutely impossible to diet whilst the weather is so cold just wear bulky clothes I find that helps! and just think the extra podge does smooth out any wrinkles well on the face anyway. Lets think of the positives.
Hi Nicky hope you are managing to get about o.k. to work in this weather. We have had another dumping and the village is covered yet again. I am confined to barracks in any case so it doesnāt really make a lot of difference to me. Hoping the ankle will allow me to drive soon as not being able to get out is driving me around the bend and back again. Thank god for the internet it is amazing how many hours you can use up!
love to all and keep warm and special wishes to you Lorraine wishing you the strength to get through all of this.
love Bev x
Good evening ladies
Hope the new blast of snow hasnāt stopped any of you in your tracks? We had rain all night and as it was my turn to do the school run this week I braved it this morning, but the road was still icy so I drove the 14 kms in 2nd gear most of the way, it doesnāt help that it was pitch black at that time in the morning and I really donāt like two driving hazards : unlit roads and ice! Iām pleased to say I managed it even though feeling very scared. By this evening most of the snow has disappeared so hopefully back to normal now.
Yes Lily/Lisa, my birthday is 18th ā Iām intending to go out to lunch with a friend as OH will be away so no one to cook me a nice meal in the evening. He is normally only away for 2 weeks each time which is long enough, but this time is a bit extra at 4 weeks! Iām enjoying having the bed to myself which would be better if one of the cats hadnāt taken up refuge and the older dog snoring his head off on the bedroom floor ā itās just like having OH home!
Lisa, how about black and white with silver accessories for your bathroom? Will we still be talking about this event this time next year too? I hope we all are, but that your bathroom will be long decorated before then.
Lily, yes I had Pandemix too, although my arm is throbbing less it is still red raw around the injection site. One week on that is ā worst injection Iāve ever had, why is it so bad? I am intrigued, what on earth is a fascinator? Does it need batteries (ha ha)? Excuse my lack of knowledge, Iām a poor lass living in the sticks in a foreign country ā LOL.
Bev I can feel the longing for grandchildren, when the time is right you will be a fantastic grandma ā or will it be Nanny? ā they bring lots of joy and I so wish I could see my beautiful granddaughter every week (is every day too much?) but I do talk lots to her on the phone and she calls me Nanny France which I think is lovely. How is your foot now?
Lorraine, are you feeling more comfortable around your tum? A small delay whilst you are on the AB is a downer, but your body must be strong to cope with what is to come. As Lily would say, get yourself bloody stronger girl! Will you be taking steroids before chemo? They will surely make you feel a bit perkier.
Nicky and everyone else how you are all ok

Hi Ladies
A quick flit on here whilst I can get to the pc. Well, would you bloody know it, more bloody snow - oops - Lilyās Touretteās is catching Dug out the drive to get the little C2 out last night and Lo and Behold - a miracle of white covered all our tracks to a depth of 3 (more) inches this morning! Went with OH to work so ended up working more hours than I wanted (or get paid for!) Other than that all OK and YD settled back in Paris where there is no snow. No - we canāt see our road, Lily - itās not been seen for 8 days now, it is really difficult to drive on and slush has yet to be invented, although the busier roads are reasonably clear.
Hope everyone on here is coping with or without snow. Lorraine lots of bug higs to you, and any one else needing them at the moment. Hope you are not feeling too bad and your cold improves with the antibiotics and you get the chemo to sort you out. I really feel for you and how rotten it must be but Iām sure as soon as you start popping those pills you will feel better and they will really help you.
Happy birthday to all the birthday girls coming up. Lily - the big 4-Oh is it LOL? Lovely if you can get a holiday out of it to celebrate. Vegas is great - very surreal and different but a real experience - not sure about the architecture though! Boston is also a lovely city - really good to walk around and good buildings. Itās the āhomeā of the American War of Independence so as much history as any part of the US has (which isnāt much!)
Lisa - the decorating bug must be out there. Iām aiming to do our bedroom - from about 2 years ago - but we all know what stopped us then. There are some lovely bathrooms around and Iām sure a few bargains just after New Year as well.
Peacock - mystery woman - hope you are not missing OH too much - it must be very difficult this time of the year when itās so dark and cold. Have a great celebration on Monday - Iām sure your friends will make it special.
Bev - bet you have gone completely stir crazy, what with the plaster being on for so long and now awful weather. As you say thank goodness for the internet, a real time āwasterā when you need it - and I donāt mean on here - I mean all the things you can search for when youāve got time on your hands. Letās hope the big thaw happens as they predict - but then there may be flooding?
Take care all, will catch up after Thursday when Iāve done my 3 days at work and have a bit more time to be on here.
Nicky xx
howdy girls
im still really rough and very concerned i just feel im not getting any better. come tea time i have a really peculiar head and temp seems to rise. took some antibiotics so lets hope that does it.
my tummy is a little better, but it can still be a bit painful at times, i cant believe i am being so negative, after feeling positive all the way through. i think it may be swine flu (probably exagerating but loads of my family members have been so ill)
my youngest has a science exam tommorow, evidently they definetly open the schools up for them
im finding the stage of the illness where i am hard to deal with, cos i dont seem to have people at the same stage i can share my fears with
you girls are wonderful, but i dont want to spoil your recovery by worrying thoughts.
anyway keep enjoying the snow.x
hi cant stop off to try and read in bed to try and get early night at been 3am last few nights.
Lorraine do you go on secondaries section to talk to others in same position and see if anyhow has same things? But we are here for you and you arent bringing me for one down by talking about it we are all here to aire our fun, upset and worries so blurt it out, my posts would be about three pages long if i had your tummy pain and the swine flu on top of it - maybe you should get checked out incase you do have it. hope the pills kick in soon and you get some rest - what about chicken soup, angie used to swear by it.
Catch up on other posts tomorrow - night all
xxx
Hi,
Lorraine I remember you cheering me through 12 doses of chemo and I may not be able to fully understand this but I will try hard to support you. You are not spoiling anything, our only concern is for you so sit back and let us fuss you for a bit princess!!I am rather in the camp āwhat will be will be and there aint a great deal I can do to change itā so no worries that you will put me in a panic. You can say whatever you like, I am ok with the dark bits. PM me if you prefer. Back to you though , you know your head is always funny when you get those night time temperatures. Why not get in there first and take a paracetamol or two before the time it rises. Sometimes we forget basic stuff, the temp makes you feel ill, so take something to bring it down. Watch your tummy is not empty though.Dodgy things donāt just appear in the evening so try not to worry. Hope your son gets on ok in the exam. Mine is in the middle of A levels. You need a nice but not long visit from someone who cheers you up. Take care x x.
Nicky well you know I have to be so careful at school that all my bad words pop out when I get home ha ha. Crikey more snow! We had a few flutters that disappeared and until you get down to our road there is not a lot about. Long may that last. I found the thick slush quite worrying and still going slow on the corners as my car tamp says it is barely off freezing each morning. Is it me or are people driving particularly badly in this weather? I seem tog etr cut up every day. Even an ambulance did it today. Yes well my birthday, I donāt really care as last year I often wondered if I would get there.Boston sounds good for him thanks.
Peacock I hope he is bringing back a nice pressie although I can hear you asking for hetaing that works!! The school drive sounds nasty, I find the dark worse too. You have been unlucky with the jab. It might mean you need to think twice about having another flu jab after this year. Better check. A fascinator is one of those feathery things on a thin hairband that sticks on one side of your head at weddings and dos instead of a hat. No batteries, whatever do you mean ??? I canāt imagine lol. It was Ā£60 in the sale and a ridiculous price but it exactly matched the outfit so I had to have it. It is very delicate the way it wafts about. Must think how I can show you all the wedding photos without the world seeing them and outing me.Peacock I foolishly thought you would be back to driving sooner. I forget these things take time, poor you. Well I can safely say you will be the most indulgent Nanna ever as you will be busting by the time one arrives.Just be careful remember Tamoxifn is a fertility drug and you donāt want one of you own do you?? What a thought, made me feel wobbly. Lisa didnāt I tell you my outfit colour? Yes grey and pink and I am having jewellery for my birthday to wear with it. Lorraine thinks I am going starkers! Oh my just a few feathers, I would need a bloody flock of the things to cover my bits. I am enjoying our little ābloodyā campaign. Quite reminds me of our Dennis and ratty jokes.Your birthday is the day before my sonās 18th. When is your check, is it with the onc? Mine is next week thats why I need to remember bloods as they are checking to see if I change tablets too. Must check if they put Ca 15-3 on my form. If they donāt I write it on myself!!! I like to keep an eye on my tumour markers. The docs seem to find it mighty amusing that I wrote it on the form every time as they thought I had it done quite a lot.
Well I enjoyed slumdog millionaire tonight, did anyone watch it? Films come round so fast now. Hardly seem to buy DVDs.
Keep smiling everyone
Lily x
So sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly Lorraine but take the good advice from the other girls. As Lisa said maybe blogging on the secondaries link maybe of use to you but please donāt leave here we are here for one another! and as Lily said take some medication during the evening to get the temp down and try not to panic too much. Although I can only imagine how difficult it must be. Hope your youngest gets on well in his exam. Be strong. X
Lly have a great birthday next week whatever you plan to to and the fascinator sounds lovely but I agree arenāt they a Bloody ridiculous price (the vocabulary is catching!) and i too am enjoying your campaign.
Peacock thanks I know I am just being impatient with life i want to cram it all in but must learn to wait. I am off to have hydro-physio this afternoon thankfully I have friends who donāt work so I can get lifts. Just hoping I will be able to drive myself soon. Hope your arm is feeling more comfortable and the weather improves.
Nicky glad to hear you are being so busy although it sounds daft but it is far better to be busy working than not and you actually get more achieved when you are busy in all areas of life. I have become so de-motivated since being confined to home again and just potter about or play on the internet. What a sad case. Still hopefully soon it will change.
Hi Lisa hope you are good too!
have a good day all
love Bev x
Hi all: Sorry I have not been around but I have been reading through your messages. Lorraine: we are all worried about you but hang in there. It will work out for you.
Nothing much happening with me ā I changed from Arimidex to Aromasin in about November as my Prof thought it would help with the joint pain ā no difference, but no worse either. However now have āvisual migraineā which can be caused by hormonal changes ā itās the bloody pills again! It is like looking through wet glass, all the vision shifts around ā bit like a kaleidoscope ā not all the time just now and again. Will have to talk to the Prof ā I would be happy to go back on Arimidex as I was OK on there. Had my 6 month check with the surgeon which was fine, scheduled to see Prof in March but may move that forward.
The snow has been a pest, got snowed in one day ā last Thursday ā but rest has been fine ā itās nearly gone now just got loads of slush and muck.
Havenāt got anything exciting to report ā itās our 40th wedding anniversary on 14 Feb ā I know, I know! We are going away for a couple of days, not sure where but it wonāt have anything to do with airports. The OH took me to our favourite jewellers last week and I came away with a lovely ruby and diamond ring ā as my ring finger joints are swollen Iām having to have my wedding and engagement rings made larger so all told this is not a cheap venture ā but Iām worth it! That would make a good advert slogan!!
Having had a very lazy year during 2009 following the end of the chemo and starting the hormone stuff, I now need to get my ass into gear. I still do my two days each week with the construction company in Leamington, but need to find something for the other days. Thought about voluntary stuff but getting involved with people means the CRB/ISA checks and I do not want to go there. I canāt do fund raising so will have to scratch my head and see what I can find. The idleness has done me a lot of good ā everyone says I look better now than I have for years ā just how bad did I look?
Lily ā you always chastise me when I neglect you ā sorry!!! Looking forward to your birthday ā I think I have given up doing that ā 63 this year, will have to stop counting.
Well thatās it ā better do some work. Will keep checking on what you are all up to ā particularly Lorraine. Letās hope this is the end of the cold weather for now.
Hugs to all
J

Hello all,
Lorraine, I may be one of the newer ladies joining in with this thread but I am keen to learn how you are doing and wish you well. I can only imagine what it must be like for you, and I imagine you must feel very lonely at times. Look on this cold/infection as a little blip and once the ABās kick in you will start to be on the mend. The secondaries forum might be a good place to go, but please keep posting here too. Have you thought about any of the other Cancer forums? Just a suggestion and hope it helps.
Lisa hope you had a better nightās sleep
Lily, thanks for the explanation of what a fascinator isā¦ I have plenty of feathers here if you need a few more. The outfit sounds very pretty, pink and grey go so well together. Remind me, when is the big day?
Nicky hope your days of work this week have come to an end, what a bloody pain (as Lily would say) having to go to work so early just so you could get there. Maybe youāll be seeing your road soon, I hope so.
Bev hope you have managed another stir crazy day, how about daytime TV or DVDs to ease the boredom, or some sewing, even knitting - now thereās a suggestion!
Well I think I have had a very bad reaction to the vaccination, if it plays me up tonight I am going to bloody (see Iām picking up this campaign quite well) scream! I might see the Dr tomorrow just in case itās not/is infected. I was talking to our son via the webcam and showed him the big red blob on my arm, he couldnāt believe it.
I am off to watch Silent Witness now, I just love Harry and think he is a real dark dish! Anyone else like it?
Enjoy the end of the week, and then the weekend is around the corner
xx
hi peacock, i notice you said you think you have had a bad reaction to the vaccine, was that the swine flu, i had my 1st injection 5 weeks ago and the injection site is still sore and red i had 2nd one 2 weeks ago and that is jus the same i did tell the nurse before the second dose she didnt seem bothered about it she said just to put a cold compress on it. I have an appointment with my GP the end of next week if its still like that i will mention it to him but i dont think there is a lot they can do about it.Do let me know what you gp says thanks julie x
did i also read its your birthday on the 18th, its also mine on the 18th if i dont write again happy birthday. julie
Hi buddies,
I seem to have deleted part of my last message.Official birthday list
Peacock 18 Jan and Westie hi to you x
Lisa 30 Jan
My son 31 Jab
Me 2 Feb
When is everyone elseās. Nicky arenāt you close to us too?
Bev I must have been mad as I wrote Peacock on the message I meant for you! I am in the other camp of too much to do and enviously thinking about a less planned day to do what I want. We never want what we have. I know what you mean though as busy days rush by.What a bloody pain your foot has been, literally. Take care, I nearly slipped today twice.
Hi Julia, well you are the only person in the world that I know who went through exactly the same as me on the same days so I am not letting my treatment twin get away from me.Would the visual changes be the difference between the tablets. Remember one is steroidal and they affect the eyes. I wonder whether I am better sticking with the devil (tamoxifen that is) I know but will see what the onc says next week. The aromatase inhibitors have a higher success rate but not by a great deal from what I have read. The eye trouble sounds horrible so I hope you can change back and get rid of that side effect. MY 30th anniversary this year and my 50th birthday so I reckon I am worth it too. I have been eyeing up pearls which will go with my wedding outfit. I like rings better add that to my list too then lol. As I have 3 daughters I tell my husband that all my jewellery has to come in 3s to pass on one day. Works well for me too ha ha. You take care and try to join us when we meet if you can.Take care x
Peacock you are not having a second jab are you? I am not as my immune system is very strong they say, so donāt see why I should chance another painful arm. Westie I would have struggled to go back if I was you. Are you in the middle of treatment then? Hope your arm get better soon - both of you.Peacock the big day is in May, seems like ages away. I have now been invited to 2 other weddings so more nice days to look forward to. The fascinator has ostrich feathers and they waft about so delicately, they seem to have a life of their own. It also makes me over 2 inches taller
Lisa what are you up to? You didnāt ask our permission to stay over night lol. Lorraine bit worried not to hear from you. Hoping the cold is starting to go and not that you feel worse. Big hugs and smiles x
Well diet bust went out to dinner and had lasagne, fries, salad (who am I kidding that salad makes the rest ok!)and then toffee cheesecake with ice cream and cream and chocolates after. Woe is me!
Better run still got some school work to do
Lily x
aaaarrryyy bloody bloody bloody, computer crashed after i pressed sumbit and lost my huge post when was trying for en early night so will just say night and catch up tomorrow, honest. Hospital tomorrow is with BCN or surgeon for 6 monthly check, we dont get to see onc, have only ever seen him once, never have bloods and dont know anything about CA markers even though ive asked before. fingers crossed find nothing.
Peacock - hope the arm picks up soon.
Julie and Westie - nice to hear from you
Bev - hope you arent doing too much with that snow around
Lily, Nicky - hope your snow has cleared we had another blast today.
Well I think we need to celebrate our birthdays i know 2 years ago i didnt think i would see the next one and scares me a bit that had 2 already but going enjoy each one and raise a glass - seen as havnet had one since sunday.
Watched american idol tonight - cant fit them all in at mo but love chilling in front of tv.
Nite all need sleep xx
HI: Lily: I am not trying to escape ā honest! The eye thing is strange as I havenāt had another episode since Tuesday morning ā I am keeping a diary now. I also think it is caused by the new pills ā I think I will get an appointment with my onc (I do get to see mine) before the scheduled one in March.
Lorraine: hope things are going OK for you; once you start the horrible chemo at least you will be on track.
Peacock: Iām a Harry fan as well but he does have strange taste in women! Watched last nightās and it seems that Leo has made a miracle recovery for tonightās episode ā last thing we saw he was in a coma! Oh the magic of TV medicine ā perhaps we could have some of that! I decided against the pig flu jab on the basis that I had enough chemicals churning around inside of me and, from the recent stats, it is not the almighty plague our so-called Government thought it would be. My sister has Lupus and she was told by her GP (after she had said no thanks) that it was not appropriate for her but āIām not allowed to tell you that, Iāve just got to give it to everybody!ā Nice!
We have rain here in Leamington today which at least makes it warmer but still yukky. I pity anyone snowed in ā when I first moved to Grandborough (8 miles from Rugby, vy small village) we used to get snowed in all the time and lost the power as it came in on overhead lines. Power problem now solved but we still have a generator just in case.
When are you planning to meet up? I guess it will be during half term, let me know and I will see what I can do.
Looks like we are in for a wet Saturday but the forecast for Sunday is better ā hope you are all getting over the snow.
Hugs to all
J

nice to hear from you Julia visual migraines are horrible I get them a bit but thankfully not too often mine are normally caused by bright sunshine and so I have to make sure I wear sunglasses all the time. Maybe all the bright snow has caused yours or aggravated the situation. Thankfully mine arenāt painful just unpleasant as you canāt see properly. Hope they get less and less.
Lorraine hoping you are feeling more comfortable and stronger. Thinking of you.
Peacock hope the arm is a bit easier. I decided not to have the swine flu jab although it was offered as my arm came up very red and swollen from the general flu jab. Also we have friends who had the swine flu jab and felt really rough so I decided a big no to that one.
Good Luck Lisa at the hospital another 6 months gone hope all is well. I have bloods taken once a year but had that before christmas and am still waiting to receive the results. I donāt know anything about CA markers either as they have never been mentioned to me.
Lily what a brilliant plan 3 daughters so needing three lots of jewellery what a clever girl! You all seem to have early birthdays mine isnāt until the summer (if we get one!) in July and then hubs is august and he will be 60h! this year.
Hi westie good to hear from you and hi to Nicky too.
I had my first hydro therapy physio session yesterday and was in the pool (lovely and warm) with a very nice young man! along with another three people so annoying I wanted his undivided attentiion. It really helped and my ankle felt so much better but by the evening had seized up again. So I will be off now to get on with my exercises!!
Have a good weekend all.
Bev x
just a quickie my lovely surgeon gave me the thumbs up at 6 monthly check, yippeee, wine tonight me thinks!!!
Hi Bevy: Interesting about the migraines - my glasses have reactalite lenses so darken up in the sun but I will live with it for a bit longer and see how it goes.
Nice to get the OK isnāt it Lisa? I havenāt had a blood test since about Feb last year when we were sorting out whether to do the Herceptin and to check my cholesterol. I have never had anything like CAās either - I think it depends on your type of cancer and the area you are in.
J
