feeling so much better this week, long may it continue so i can get some more treatment down me, lily what are you saying about my typing ill have you know i can do 72 words a minute,(well a few years ago anyway).not feeling like sweet things still, the only cake which is low in potasium is angel cake, havent had any yet.
when you have your scan you should only have to drink water, i never had to drink chalky drinks, i dont think theyve done that for long time now. so dont worry its a doddle. you may get a sensation in your pelvic area, like your hot there, but honestly its nothing to worry about.x
Hi,
Lorraine nice to see you posting and glad you enjoyed my rib about your typing. So one finger at a time then ha ha! Seriously though I am really glad that you are feeling brighter and that there is talk of more chemo as a possibility again. What a world when we get excited about that!! Good luck that it all goes to plan. I now have to worry that I may ever have high potassium if angel cake is the only option, thats too bad. Good job you are still on savoury then so not too disappointed. Have you still got trouble with the ascites or has the drain stayed in? I know that causes a lot of discomfort and hope they are on to it. My friend had her second CT scan recently in my hospital and was made to eat the thick rotten pooy chalky vomit inducing yukky stuff for the second time!! So yes it is def still on the menu over here. She was absolutely speechless when she went with me and I said I canât do it, Iâm on chemo and was handed the water version and offered squash to flavour it too. So will make up a little story about having the water last time and fingers crossed it wonât be the thick one. I had enought trouble drinking the iodine water and not going to the loo! At least I get a break before my bone scan as worried about 2 so close together.
Lorraine keep us posted, you know we are all walking around with legs, feet and arms all crossed for you (very tricky going up stairs) and a few prayers too
Lily x
dont know why you have to drink chalky drink maybe we have more advanced equipment here, or maybe you just have wicked nurses who like to torture you whenever possible. which hospital do you go for treatment
i dont know how id go on at your end because i would just not drink that stuff again for love or money or to think about it anything!
take care x
Wow, Lorraine, sounds like you arent getting much sleep, thought it was only me that posted at bizarre hours. Hope that drain isnt causing you too much jip. Glad you feeling more livlier, long may it continue, oh try angel cake⊠xx
I had a lump removed from my right breast in April last year, then my mum died of breast cancer in May. then I started chemo before the funeral and my hair was falling out at the funeral. I had 4 chemo treatments then went on to have 25 radiation treatments. I go for my first major consultation in 2 weeks time. I am really nervous about the results. I am suffering from hot flushes and last night only got 3 hrs of sleep. I am really not happy. Does anyone know if it is OK to use the Serenity progesterone cream after breast cancer? I canât ring my doctor because I live in spain and the language is a huge problem.
Welcome to the BCC discussion forums, I am sure youâll get lots of support from the many informed users of this site. Although you are in Spain you can still phone the helpline here but the number different to phoning from the UK - hereâs the overseas number:
(+44) 2076 200 077
Lines to the helpline are open Mon - Fri 9-5 and Sat 9-2 UK time.
the docs were really pleased with me today, my potasium levels have come down to 5.6 wich is near the safe mark.my white cells are normal still a little conccerned about salt levels and are restricting my fluids a little. which is hard cos im so dry.
they arnt willing to give me more treatment at the moment they want me to gather my strength, but at least things seem to be going right way.xxxxx
Lily I canât make sense of your chalky stuff you have to drink, Iâve had quite a few nuclear scans and theyâve always involved an injection rather than drinking. Either way, they know what theyâre doing so we must be reassured with that. If you have to drink the stuff, ask for a drop of vin rouge to help it on its way.
Welcome Hardinginspain, I empathise with you as I live in France and often find the language a real problem, although I speak a little French sometimes it is not enough. I canât answer your question about the cream, if itâs any help I am using an oestrogen cream and I hope someone will be able to answer your question. Feel free to join us on this site whenever you feel the need to talk.
Lisa how is the decorating getting along?
Nicky hope you have arrived back in the UK ok and not feeling too stressed about the move.
Lorraine, wow how lovely to see you posting and by the sound of it youâll be having a party by the weekend, keep it up girlie, what fantastic news.
Well, I have been busy trying to get organised for OHâs 50th birthday on 7 March. He will be home so I am planning a small luncheon for him with 5 friends and the 3 of us. Am marinading the beef, have decided to cook a casserole a la Peacock, not sure exactly what it is just a mixture of red wine (of course), garlic, beef stock, beef, onions, carrots and other veg and roast potatoes. Trying to get it all prepared and in the freezer this week whilst he is still away. I am going to try and make a chocolate sponge birthday cake, so all you chocoholics please suggest some recipes. OH loves chocolate, so that is a treat for him.
Catch you all tomorrow, take care xxx
Hi,
well thats what I like to log on to lots of talk about cakes Oh I really miss our cake talks Lorraine, no-one else quite appreciates them as much as we do you know. You did make me laugh when I read your post as I can hear the strength stirring in you, that was fighting talk. Please come with me to beat the beastly nurse with the thick stuff. I have no idea but suspect it is just a consultant who likes the old way or being cynical perhaps it is cheaper!! Think of me at 8.45 on Thursday with the jug in my hand and Victor sitting next to me telling me to behave myself and drink it ha ha! By the way do you have a laptop in the hospital because you log on at crazy hours, must be the steroids. I used to sit and do jigsaws as the body could sit still but it gave my brain the activity it was demanding. Fab news on the reducing Potassium. Reminds me of the periodic table at school and I believe the symbol for potassium is K. Not sure why. Hey you are dry, well you would be just the person to enjoy a nice thick chalk milkshake courtesy of the NHS :)Pleased to hear that you are feeling on the up and hope it continues for ages.
Lisa I agree she should try the angel cake :)Are you ok it sounded like work was giving you stress at the moment?
hardingsinspain - sorry no idea perhaps you could start a post with that as a title so people spot it who know more. Or you could do a search and see what comes up from old threads. So sorry you have had such a lot to deal with and I am sure as Peacock says being in Spain makes it even harder. Take care. Hi Belinda how are you?
Peacock it is even better than you think I get the injection of contrast and the pooey drink! They order you to drink the stuff, then you go in and they put a small cannula or similar in you inner elbow. Then they wizz you in and out the doughnut. Then they stop and put the contrast in. You wet yourself instantly (well it feels like it and with a full bladder who knows yikes!)and then you have to hold your arm up in the air like you are the drip bag holder and wizz in and out again. Followed by a controlled but fairly urgent dash for the nearest ladies with a scarey face for anyone trying to get in there before you grrrrrrr. It is the CT scan this week my nuclear bone scan was cancelled due to a lack of staff. They have the norovirus so no visitors allowed in for 3 weeks now. Will go with antibacterial gel and drink that instead lol.Happy birthday to Mr P and what about rocky road cake with marshmallows and malteasers and chocolate flakes all over it. ÂŁ3 from Tesco but not as good as homemade.
Well not sure if I told you but my hair is getting curlier all the time, very amusing to me. Ed told me to use some special stuff and scrunch it up and I now look like I had a perm about 6 weeks ago lol. I remember having a shaggy perm and wearing a long corduroy skirt, puffy blouses and a tweed/brown jacket and thinking it was fab!! Are we enjoying the winter olympics? Fab

hiya all, just finished some work so popped on but tired, welcome to the newbies, Peacock hope you manage to find something nice to make, im a pudding and chocolate girl! Lily, good luck for scan on Thursday. Lorraine chuffed that you are feeling bit livlier. Well falling asleep better go, have some snow so you never know could get snowed in yipppeeee xxx
Hi Buddies and any newcomers
Safely back from France. A hectic weekend but what a lovely surprise to see Lorraine posting on here - you go girl! Sounds like you will be fancying the cakes soon but a sausage and egg sandwich will have to do for now. Good luck withy all the investigations and maybe they will start mining you to get the salt out LOL As to potassium mine was always very low during chemo and took a while to get back to normal levels - maybe you sneaked in and ate all my K tablets? It seems like the steroids are kicking in as well - as Lisa says sheâs the only one who posts in the early hours - at least one of her buddies will be on here with her.
A lot of news to catch up with. 1stly Iâm worried about the peacock au vin - where did you get a peacock from? Hope Mr P appreciates it and the fab chocoholic cake you will bake him. I have a Delia recipe for chocolate torte which is basically a slab of pure chocolate with a few random ingredients added to pad it out. Very rich so it lasts for ages - or not if Lily, Lisa and Lorraine are invited. I can PM it to you - or publish for the world at large?
Lily - our hospital called the drink a âsmoothieâ - I think they no longer offer them because of Trade Descriptions! OK it was smooth just like a piece of wood is âwoodieâ but they sure werenât like any smoothie that Starbucks sell. Disgusting. However these are now off the âmenuâ (I do love it when they pass that to you!) and we now have flavoured water ones - plus of course the obligatory injection. I hate the taste in your mouth which happens about the same time as the warm flush hits your lady bits - charming! I lie there with my mouth open so it goes quickly. Oh boy are you going to have fun!
I have read everyoneâs postings but canât scroll back through all the PAGES, yes PAGES, that I have missed so Iâm sorry if I donât answer anything or missed someoneâs news out - just lovely to see you all on here.
Our trip was very good and stressfree - for the 1st time since YD went to Paris. But a lot of driving, mainly for OH, and of course carrying and moving stuff. However we did have time to have a wander and go out with YD for a couple of meals. Leaving her this time was sooo different from September - she is now in a bigger apartment, sharing with a mate and in a livelier area of Paris - about 2 mins walk from Notre Dame - not bad eh?
Hope everyone is doing well, especially Lorraine - long may the doctors be happy with you!
Nicky xx
i had a bit of a restless night last night, ive had a side room to myself for ages because of low cells and other things, and even though i didnt think id like it, i came to love it, well i guessed it wouldnt be long before they had to move me for someone else who had more need, i was allowed visitors whenever i wanted and i really got used to it.well they asked me if i would mind giving it up i said i didnt want to but if someone needed it i would. well they evicted me, at 11 o clock i cant understand it but i was so upset. the nurses didnt want me to move but we had no choice. but im getting used to my new spot.x
I understand what you mean about having a side room, Lorraine and what a pain that youâve had to move. Maybe you can change your blood test results to show you have low neuts again;-) Hopefully the ward youâll now be in will be OK and there are people in there who you can talk to and thereâs no-one in there who disturbs you in any way. You always look on the positive - which is amazing- so Iâm sure something good will come of this.
Nicky x
Nice to hear from everyone as usual, youâve all been busy.
Lily - good luck tomorrow with the lovely juice stuff, imagine itâs the nicest drink you enjoy and down the hatch, all one go if you can! I am jealous actually, I only get the injection which makes all your lower body bits feel very warm, hot in fact.
Nicky - glad to hear your trip went well, it sounds like YD will have a great time being so close to the city.
Lisa - you are the cake expert? Is that making or eating LOL? I have a question which Iâll pose later in the hope someone can help.
Lorraine - how bloody awful youâve been shifted from your lovely bloody private room and now youâre bloody sharing with others, itâs not bloody good enough! But never mind that, its good that youâre feeling territorial, it means you are gaining strength and long may it continue.
And now my question. I baked a chocolate sponge cake today but, the bloody thing didnât bloody rise, anyone know why? I used SR flour, fresh eggs, sugar and butter but it stayed as flat as a pancake. It will be ok in the trifle but not for me to put 50 candles on for Mr P. Iâm giving myself time to bake another one but next time I have to get it right.
cant stop and uuum peacock im defo no expert in making cakes, eating yes!! Very strange.
Nicky glad you had a nice trip! Welcome back
Lily good luck tomorrow x
Lorraine - know exactly what you mean i had a side room and loved it, when they moved me out i asked to leave hosptial day after - ahhh maybe that was there plan!! Too noisy. Whatâs on the menu today??
xxx
Hi
Peacock - Iâve a feeling itâs the fresh eggs that did it. I seem to remember that they are not good for meringues or baking if they are freshly laid like Iâm sure yours must be. May be worth checking this out on tinernet! A good friend of mine has chickens and she is trying to convince me to have them. What with the family of foxes in the field at the back of us I donât think thatâs a good idea - weâd have to have such a big covered area - or a gun I suppose! Oops, sorry all you anti-fox hunters. I loved the story about your chucks and my friend says how hers have personalities as well. One of her cats is fascinated by them - not to eat mind, as the hens are bigger than the cat. One morning she went out to let them out of their house into the pen and the cat had stayed in all night roosting with them!
Lily - hope the scan goes OK and you donât get the disgusting drink. Remember you havenât wet yourself, it just feels like it
Lisa - hope the bathroom is coming on, bet you canât wait to heat that shower up from the comfort of your bed, you lazy wasit!
Lorraine - hope you have been comfortable and not too disturbed in the main ward. Also that your blood levels are stablising so you can get some treatment, fingers crossed and thinking of you.
To everyone else including Bev, Julia, Belinda, Soulgirl, hope all is OK with you and the next lot of snow isnât coming your way, only up north I hear this time.
Nicky x
Hi,
sorry didnât pop in last night as having a fight with an important school document, the cef. All red tape and politics and everyone gets very angst about them. Anyway it is done, in my style so will see what the outcome is. Off to face âthe dragon with the smoothieâshortly. Victor said well Iâll wait outside in the waiting room. Me - Yes so will I! Victor (hopefully)â but youâll go straight in to drink the stuff and be out an hour or so later.
Me - no I drink it over an hour in the waiting room.
Victor (concerned by now, bordering on hysteria) 'Iâll wait in the car if youâre going to be silly!
Me - youâll be right by my side while I drink the water one, because I am NOT having anything else and that is final!
Victor - You could drive yourself. If we canât park, I 'll wait outside in the care.
Off we go, report back later ha ha
Not taking no for an answer Lily x
