February 2025 chemo starters

Hi February starter ladies,

Really glad I found this site as it’s so helpful and good to not be alone on this terrifying journey :weary:
I found a lump at the end of November and have since been on the rollercoaster of appointments/biopsies/meetings. I am triple negative and have had my genetics blood test which will determine my surgery outcome, has anyone else had the genetics test?
I’ve just had a call to have my PICC line next Wednesday and the same as you @pineapples123 start my Chemo EC on the 6th for 3 sessions then T for 3 more, 21 days apart.
Where did everyone here about the ‘look good feel good’ course? Something I’d like to do as worried I’ll look like an alien without eyebrows and eyelashes!

Thank you for sharing that, it helps. All the best C

Hi. Zoe Mac. Yes it is a very frightening time . But I’ve found it so reassuring to talk to people on this forum. The look good feel good course . I think if you google it will come up with a list of places they are on at. Also a lot of online ones. I will see if I can find the linkb.
Are you going to try the cold cap?
I met some lovely people at look good feel good worship and a couple had used cold cap with good results and said it wasn’t too bad.
What part of country are you from Zoemac.

I hope debley123 and wba are feeling ok after recent chemo .
Hope pongo1 is ok with chemo today and dkc66 ok for tomorrow.
Thinking of you all
Xx

:heart:sorry you find yourself here, look good feel better courses are bootable via your Macmillan at your trust, do pop in they can help you with lots of things and if you have a Maggies centre at your trust do pop in there too again they can help you with lots of things too. Was your genetics test for brca gene? I was tnbc and had genetics test for brca gene that was in 2017 but I believe more resent tnbc diagnosed forum members were tested for more than just brca gene, I hope they pop on and advise. You can also use the ask the nurse section on here and also ring the number that is on the forum and speak to a nurse:heart::two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Hi All,
I am due to start my first chemotherapy treatment on the 14th.
I have my pre-op on the 6th.
7 cycles of 3 weekly treatments, of EC and Docetaxel.
I am early stage,Grade 3,Er/Pr -ve and HER2 +ve,So I will also be having phesgo along side.

I am feeling anxious about starting treatment,But am trying to remain as positive as I can :blush:

Welcome @rainbowbrite10 your pre-op is the same day I start my EC so will let you know how it is. Is the Phesgo the new drug for HER2 +? My oncologist/BCN said its revolutionary with great results whilst I waited for my HER2 results to come back.

@mrsjelly Hi :wave: Glad to hear a positive re PICC line, How are you feeling after your first session? Did you try the coldcap?

@wba @pineapples123 @Shi I reached out to the Look good feel better team and had a response re search in my area, I keep forgetting that I’m in a new estate as been here 3 years so the postcode wasn’t recognised Doh! I’ve booked a virtual hair loss workshop and face to face makeup session for next month, just hope I’m not poorly when they come round.

@shi yes my genetics test was for BRCA gene but not sure if there was anything else being tested, it was a bit rushed due to confusion of where and when the test should be! I’ll also look up Maggies as heard it mentioned on this forum but yet to see if at my hospital.

Hope everyone is getting some sunshine like here in Bucks today as it really does lighten my mood. Sending positive sunshine thoughts to you all x

Hi,
Yes I believe so,
Oh Thank You,
Hope you get on ok with your first treatment :crossed_fingers::kissing_heart:

Hi @zoemac

I decided not to use the cold cap. Having inputted my treatment on the calculator my
results came back as a 50% chance of keeping 50% of my hair. I thought it would be just my luck to have it just round the edges!

One of the BCN was more optimistic and said I’d keep perhaps 80% then another, more experienced chemo nurse gave me a knowing look and said with my drug regimen I’d lose it even with the gold cap.

I’ve never been someone who do spends a lot of time and money on their hair. I don’t colour it or have it cut regularly. I like to just wash and go. A few years back it thinned considerably then grew back curly as a consequence of medication for inflammatory arthritis. I didn’t like how it looked when it was thinning. In view of this I and my loathing of having cold hands and feet, I decided the cold cap was not for me. I’ve had my hair cut shorter so it’s not such a shock when I lose it. I’ve assorted headwear ready to put on and a wig in its box waiting!

Not sure if I told you guys that my first chemo is now Friday as Ive decided to try the cold cap and there werent any left for today. Ive been told they put it on half hour before chemo, chemo then lasts half an hour, then cold cap stays on for 90 minutes after! Im not confident i can cope with that so I went to Worthing today and bought a nice wig from Robertsons. So tomorrow it all starts and I am feeling bit happier about it since the pre chemo meeting I had on Tuesday.

Welcome to our support network. Know how hard all this is. Like you very anxious,
I’m currently sat on the machine but not as bad as I thought.
I’ve Still been here over 2 hours so far an. All the checks beforehand take time.
Which part of the country are you from?

@dkc66
@mrsjelly
difficult decision as to if to cold cap. All you can do is go with what you feel is right for you. It does seem to put a lot of additional time on to treatment.
I’ve got my wig now & had in on testing it last few day’s
My husband & son didn’t notice for an hour.
Lol :joy:
I’m fully prepared hopefully :pray: for what is going to happen, like a few of you having my hair cut very short next week. :roll_eyes:

Stay positive everyone x sending hugs to you all x

Booked Sandwell hospital for my look good feel good course in March as couldn’t get on at Queen Elizabeth where I’m having treatment x

@wba

Thats made me chuckle that your husband and son didn’t notice your hair. Reminds me of the time my Mum arrived home following an appointment to have a prosthetic leg fitted. She’d had an above knee amputation.
My Dad didn’t notice she had two legs and two shoes on. :rofl:
