Hello I am starting chemo/immunotherapy on 10 Feb and am really scared. After being diagnosed at one stop clinic earlier this month it is so overwhelming. I am hoping to be able to chat to other new starters to see if it helps
Hello @anb1
Nice to have you with us for support on this scary journey ahead.
Your not alone. I know how hard Iāve found it all. This group is a great support to share our feelings, tips and just a chat if you feel overwhelmed.

Hi wba
I am from Lincoln. Thank you for your reply I hope you are getting on ok. I am so scared to start chemo but think I may be better in my head when I do. Itās so surreal isnāt it.
@anb1
Itās all very daunting, itās normal to feel that way.
Iāve had many wobbles, tears, felling anxious just getting your head around all the new diagnoses terminology as well so overwhelming.
We only all been on here a few weeks, so you will see whatās been said already in conversations.
Ive found the chemo not as bad as I thought.
Once you know your dates & the drill of order at the unit it does help. Staff are all lovely.
Sending hugs

Thank you thatās reassuring. I have my pre chemo appointment next Thursday then start on Monday 10th Feb. I know I have found the appointments daunting as when they start telling you it sounds awful even though they say they can still sort it. Iām 2 years since my last mammogram and hardly any symptom no lump just slight skin change. Even my GP was not concerned just thankful she referred me as a precaution
Reporting back after 1st chemo today. Im definitely getting a picc line for next session as it took 90 minutes to find a vein! I managed the cold cap, 3 hours, it wasnt as bad as I expected. First 15 minutes worse then its tolerable. Unfortunately i had an allergic reaction half way through chemo and came out in large hives over both arms so after had to have piraton intravenously. Its better now but have to go to A&E if comes back. Annoyingly the hospital has run out of the anti sickness tablets they give on day 2 and 3 so i was given tablets that arent as effective. They said its a nationwide issue! On the whole if I hadnt had vein and hive issues it was ok. This evening Im very tired but that could be the piriton, have the feeling that the cold cap is still on head but touch wood thats it so far.
I had my haircut in preparation too. Sounds similar to you - the regime Iām on means v little chance of keeping most of my hair and to be honest it was one more thing to faff with. I have v prominent dark eyebrows so itās going to be a v different me anyway. Hugs to you xxx
What bad luck for first session, but I guess they will mitigate against it next time. You deserve to have an easier ride from now on. I had the anti sickness drugs and day 3 after my first session today no nausea but dreadful constipation. Rang the bleep and my local pharmacy had stuff in to get it sorted. Nurse said it is a side effect of anti sickness drugs. Note made for next time. Itās v swings and roundabouts isnāt it.xxx
Here here. Felt bloody scared when first walked into the unitā¦ and saw the reclining seats etc. But nurses brilliant at reassuring us and system ran really well. It took much longer than expected - there was a lot of information and lots of drugs to take home and injections too. I think maybe because it was the first one? Iā m definitely not dreading the next one anywhere near as much.
If anyone is looking for an eye brow pencil I got one from Benefit in Boots that instead of drawing a line, draws strokes mimicking eyebrows.
@dkc66
That was bad luck having allergic reaction.
I had piriton given me anyway before 1st session.
Perhaps they will give it now each time you go.
Pleased your not feeling to bad.
Sending hugs
Welcome anb1
I have my first chemo session next Thursday 6 th February. It has been very reassuring listening to everyone on here who has started chemo as it doesnāt seem so bad as yet.
Dkc66 good to know the cold cap not too bad. Iām going to do it.
Glad you still feeling ok wba.
I was just going to ask you how you did the @ then persons title. But when I pressed @ a list of everyone came up . @wba - just practising that one.

Hello! I will start AC chemo on Feb. 11 every 2 weeks for 4 cycles and then Taxol chemo once a week for 12 weeks. #Terrified lol. My surgery was Jan. 14. I had a nipple sparing mastectomy on my right breast with immediate direct implant. And although, there was no cancer in the left breast, I also had a small implant put in for symmetry. They also inserted a port in my chest (instead of picc line)during surgery for the chemo. So glad I was still under anesthesia during that . During surgery 2 lymph nodes were positive when taken out so that was a bummer. So, that means after the chemotherapy I have to have 6 weeks (5 days a week) of radiation. I then have to take hormone treatments that will put me in menopause (Iām 47). I am nervous but I am so glad I found this forum!!! Best of luck to everyone. We can do this!!!
Welcome Mrs Hughes. Glad you found the forum, its been big help for my nerves to say the least.
I had EC first time yesterday and thought I would do another update. I felt nauseous in the night but today I havent felt sick at all and not taken any of the anti sickness tablets they gave me. Feel slighly light headed but apart from that, good. Had 2 lots ofx2 steroid tablets today and had tiny headache after them, but not enough to take paracetamol I even sent my husband out for a bacon roll this morning!! And even better my pee has gone back to normal colour!
Great tip thanks
