Hi

Anyone fancy meeting up again this side of Christmas? I’m sorry I missed the last one.

Alison x

Hi Alison, I would love to meet up
xx monica

Hi Monica

When’s your next lot of treatment? I live in Gateshead, so we could easily meet up. I’d be happy simply to meet you up at the QE if that’s the easiest thing for you … there’s bound to be a cafe … or we could go to a near by pub for coffee or lunch.

What do you think?

(Sorry I didn’t reply before, but missed your post - I’ll hae to bookmark this thread!).

Hi girls from the North East.

I live south of Durham. Was diagnosed with breat cancer June 2005 have just had two rucurrences. Am looking to transfer my care to a Newcastle hospital or the Queen Elizabeth, can anyone help me out in making my decission?

xx

Hi algiz

I have always been treated in Newcastle as that’s where I was living when first diagnosed. Think my onc is great, have complete faith in him. Have also had a hip op at the Freeman and my consultant there is a complete dish, and all staff whether for scans or any kind of treatment have always been kind and courteous. The nurses in the chemo/herceptin ward at the NCCC where I go every three weeks for treatment are all lovely, professional, kind etc, but horribly overworked, so treatment is more often than not delayed by an hour or more. The day ward is a bit like a station concourse, not cosy, newly built/decorated, so rather clinical looking.

Can’t comment first hand on the QE, but have heard that the chemo unit there is very different to the NCCC.

Good luck with your decision. You literally feel they have your life in their hands, don’t you?

Alison x

Hello algiz
I have nothing but praise for the staff at both the RVI and the Freeman.
I agree with the comments about the Chemo ward, my longest wait was
4 1/2 hours - agh!
However, if you’re to have radiotherapy then it seems an awful long way for you to travel every day. I found treatment for five (long!)
weeks really tedious and I live only three miles away from the Freeman.
Just something else for you to think about, best of luck.

Hello algiz
I have been involved with the QE since 1997 and have nothing but praise for the breast unit, surgical unit and chemo day centre. Not sure how different chemo unit is from NCCC, but its very friendly, staff are fab, seems well organised - makes a nice experience of what I thought would be a complete ordeal.
Will you be travelling for therapies or are you moving further north?
take care and good luck
monica xx

Hello girls,

thank you so much for your quick replies you have been very helpful. Its really important that you have faith and trust in the people in charge of your care, it is good that you have that.

I will let you know what I decide.

Thank you so much xx

hello everyone
Theresa, would love to see new shopping centre in Morpeth, have a bone scan next week and then should get some treatment - whatever is causing it - for this shoulder problem and soon be able to drive. I can do local stuff but longer distances is a real problem right now. It would be great to be able to do something beforee christmas wouldn’t it? will let you know the upshot of the scan and hopefully plan something - would really enjoy seeing you again
love monica

Monica - how are things going with your shoulder…?

I had to go and have a scan to my neck on tuesday - i’ve got a swelling in my neck - good news - they couldn’t see any mass / enlarged lymph nodes etc… but no idea why the swelling is there… so he said to go back to my onc if it gets any bigger…

Paula - thinking of you alot this week… {{{hugs}}} x
