I am in a really surreal place.........

Clare, well done for taking control so that you have enjoyable days rather than manic days. I’m sure you’d love to be out every day but if you end up exhausted and not having the fun you deserve it’s a shame.

here are some more spoons for your collection… think you may have been pinching some from the next day recently?

Not sure if there's any significance in the direction they are drawn! I'm left handed so they are the correct way round for me!!

Good morning :o)

A rather wobbly Clare greets you this morning, my legs seem to have given up on me, I have water retention nearly up all one leg, which can’t be right. They are so heavy, so its a total day in bed for me. XOH has taken the day off work for me to veg and be near to help me.

So spoons needed a plenty for the next few days. I hope to be fightingg fit for the hospice on Thursday and more importantly Mum. I don’t want her to see me like this untill she has too, as it really upsets her.

I do hope everyone else has had a better day, yesterday.
Good luck Twinky for the chemo this morning, hope its not too tender and there are no immediate SE’s. If cake is on the agenda, I’m sure I can fit a few more people in my kitchen LoL

I didn’t play poker with Kev yesterday Julie,x just had lunch :o) and no it is play money I play with, not real :o)

Right I am back off to bed all this being sensible is tyring me out lol, enjoy your day…

Clare xxx

Clare, I hope you are tucked up in bed and resting those legs, your poor thing. Definitely overdoing it I’d say but I can understand why. Feet up for a day or two will help with energy levels, fluid retention and well being, well I hope so
Wow the film is coming along nicely  . You are right about the kids though, I’ll need to get a nanny, don’t want to come back to Brad and sort out the kids now do I? Far more important things to do LOL I’m not taking on the director’s role as well so you can all be who you’d like to be, although I have been trying to think of someone for Laurie. I did think of Jo Brand, her being a psych nurse as well, but she may take it the wrong way
I don’t know everyone’s ‘story’ on here so I’m not sure if some of the ops and chemos are first ones or repeated ones but hope that everyone involved has a reasonable ride, can’t say any of it is easy but with this thread going on at least you can get great support.
I can possibly make next week if Clare is up to a big visit but I do have a couple of other things on already so would go with the flow. If a definite date comes up I will say if I can make it or not. I can bring my iron with me
Love to all, especially Clare
Nicky xx

Ha Nicky, Funny you should mention Jo Brand! I’m not like her in stature but by the time I have finished pencilling in the eyebrows there is a cetain Ms Brandness about me - and I do so love comedy!

Glad you have your sensible head on today Clare - you need all your energy for your trip out tomorrow.

Lx

Clare, you have been hogging that “naughty” bench for a while, so nice to see you having a well deserved rest! Hope you are having lots of zzzzzzz xx

Well thank you everyone for wafting the sun this way rather than keeping it safe in England  Weather in Glasgow this afternoon is gorgeous! And we have Claredrops finally!

Clare glad you’re chillin’ and really hope tomorrow goes really well for you.

I only just found this thread at the end of last week - I think someone referred to it in an end of life type thread, and I decided to have a look.

How inspirational on so many counts - it may sound cockeyed to say but this terrible disease we all live with does do some good things - it draws people together in ways I’d never have believed possible. We are mainly just voices on the interweb (except those few who’ve the fortune to live close by each other.

Clare - not sure if you realise it but you’re leaving a a legacy right here - it will go down I’m sure as one of the BCC classic threads - I salute you from afar.

I cannot believe Glasgow has only just got its Claredrops out - we’ve had them for a good couple of weeks up here in Aberdeen. Like so many of you, snowdrops have always meant a lot to me as a harbinger of spring, and I am fortunate enuf to be able to expand my collection each year in eth green from a local estate where they don’t mind a bucket or too going missing. I must confess to never having joy with planting the pots of 5 or 10 bulbs you buy in the garden centre, but Haddo never let me down!!

We were down in the Cotswolds at the weekend and I saw my first daffy with yellow on its nose - another cheering sight.

Thank you all for cheering me through my aches and pains - only bone mets now and hoping long may it stay so!

Nina

It’s definitely a good idea to have a few sensible days Clare, so that you can build up your stockpile of spoons for all the silly ones.

The foody get together chez Clare sounds lovely - I’d love to join you but I’ll be in work, so will send some cyber cake to you.

No baking for me tonight (well, the bread maker’s on but it’s on pretty much every day to feed the two ravenous hulking teenage lads that live here, so nothing unusual there). There is, however, a huge vat of pea and ham soup bubbling away gently, using up the left overs of Sunday’s roast gammon.

Nina, so glad you’ve found this thread - definitely one of my favourites ever. It’s so nice to just read and ramble on about the little joys we have in our lives instead of fretting about the big worries.

Lovev to all,

Jane xxx

Evening everyone, Clare, hope you have had a really restful day with some of the spoons helping you to catch up so that you can enjoy time with your Mum and with the lovely ladies on here next week.

Jane,I don’t know how you do it, all the baking of cakes, bread, soup. Totally puts me to shame. I also have hulking teenagers but when I stagger in from work my efforts are far less spectacular. I have just remembered that I am meant to be singing tonight, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert to rehearse for (no less) but no, not one she will be attending, just our local tribute. May sound strange, but no matter how wiped out I may be after a day at work (my resilience is definitely not what it was pre bc) I still feel better for a good sing song.

Beautiful day here with Claredrops, crocuses and daffs a plenty

Wishing you all a lovely evening MG xx

Hello Ladies

If Clare has a visitor next Friday & Saturday then Thursday needs to be a quiet day to give her some spoons for her weekend ( we’re going to bully you Clare into looking after yourself) so either Mon, Tues or Weds will need to be feast afternoon! I’m finding it a bit hard today to focus on organising as it was chemo no.1 this morning and fighting to keep nausea & sickness at bay with tablets & snacks ( so far so good but don’t feel very sociable). ChoccieMuffin can’t make Tues & Weds so Monday is looking good ( but only if Clare has a quiet Sunday). Monday will be day 6 for me on FEC - does anyone know if I’ll be feeling ok by then? I imagine the worst of the nausea will pass over the next few days so if it’s just a bit of tiredness then I should be ok. Can someone volunteer to organise us (see who is bringing which course & how many chairs we need to get into the kitchen). I’m just a bit too ‘off’ at the moment to focus on it. I have a dessert in mind…but it doesn’t involve pancakes…lol!

Twinky x

Hey Twinky

Day 6 on FEC was usually on the up (1-4 were the worst) so hopefully you will feel fine by then.

So Claire and ladies who-plan-to-lunch, lets do the day first then work out the food etc. How about Monday at 1pm?

Remember Clare - no pressure.

Laurie x

Evening all,
I hope you had a good wobble less afternoon Clare. Katherine House doesn’t know what is about to descend on it. …Our star…I so hope you will find it a worthwhile visit. I wonder if there are many "Claredrops "on that grassy slope as you approach the building?
Twinky I hope the PIC is settling and the nausea has calmed down a bit. St. Eroid hopefully will keep it at bay even if it doesn’t help your sleeping. You no doubt will soon be on the greedy bench with Katy and me!! The diet for us is bread and water but Alto makes a good loaf so perhaps we could beg for a few. I
Laurie I agree with you re days 1-4 being worst with FEC.
CM the Spag sounds good . I too can do mobile food. Just give me the instructions. I can’t do Wednesday (shopping with ancient parent ) or Friday ( lunch with friends from anti natal days 37 yrs ago) so that leaves Monday , Tuesday, and Thursday. I can pick up and give lifts quite happily from stations etc in the Oxford Bucks region. RevCat unfortunaly not from Glasgow or Aberdeen Nina, but I could manage Northamptonshire Laurie.
It is lovely seeing how many people are following Clare now.
Nicky are you aiming for an Oscar for best Director or just a director style chair in Benchland?
Sleep well all

P.s. we could do with that Glasgow sun in the Thames Valkey!!

Hope you’ve had a restful day Clare and are in fine fettle for the rest of the week. it sounds as though you are going to need those spoons, so I am sending you some cyber ones. Hopefully you’ll feel much better by Friday and Saturday.

MG I envy you the singing. I love it, but can’t sing a note (I was told to mime when in primary school)so I warble away when alone in the car so that I don’t frighten people!

Twinky, hope you don’t feel too bad on the FEC. Like the others, I usually was on the up on day 6 and by day 8 was feeling absolutely fine.

Hope you all have a peaceful and sleep-filled night night, Mo xx

Provisionally it’s looking like MONDAY, and we have (in no particular order)

If you are coming, please copy this list and add your name to it, so I know how big a bucket I need for the spag bol. (Happy for someone else to bring the spaghetti or other pasta and for someone else to bring the grated cheese to go on top.) If the weather’s nice we could even bring chairs and sit in the garden to keep your kitchen clear, Clare. I have a couple of folding ones I could sling in the car. JulieD, I think you mentioned a lift. If you can get yourself from Brighton to Guildford I’d be very happy to take you the rest of the way.

Clare, I hope you enjoyed your visit today and found them as positive as others have.

CM -I can do both…bring pasta and cheese. How about some Crepes 60s style with Cointreau and oranges??? Some of us missed the last lot!!! I too can bring chairs and if you want plates etc I could bring some and take them home to be put in the dishwasher.
Panic not Clare we are not moving in or taking over… You see how you feel …none of the food will go to waste if it will be too much for you. We really and truely will understand.

Sorry Crabbie, missed that.

We can sort out cheese and pasta and pancakes once we have an idea who’s coming.

Add me too please. I can’t copy the damn list as I’m trying to do this on my iPhone without my reading glasses! I’m coming from Northamptonshire so if there are any nods along the way who need picking up, let me know. I can bring along some drinks or food or whatever.

Laurie

Hope you’ve had a restful day and are feeling much brighter and refreshed.Good luck with the hospice visit tomorrow, I’m sure it will be interesting.

CM, thanks for offer of lift from Guildford much appreciated. I may be able to get a lift from another Sussex lady but it depends on if we’re both free on the day. At the moment I’m waiting for an MRI appt so can’t commit to any day at the minute, knowing my luck it will be Monday! I shall take great pleasure in hearing all about it though if I can’t get there.

Lovely day here today and had a nice lunch with a friend which really cheered me so am a happy bunny. Sleep well everyone specially Clare and Twinky (did they use your new port? how was it?)Love xx

Hi JulieD

Yes they used my new port & it was so little hassle it was great! Still just feeling a bit yukky but will be ok I hope.
