January chemo starters ?

Hi Michelle well done on your first. Sounds like it’s nit been too bad for you. Just be careful if your mouth mind used to break down after about a week for some reason so I got used to using diffksm and gel before it started and avoide ulcers.
I’ve been really worried about picking things up so haven’t been out much. I do t do supermarkets unless it’s late at night and quiet. And if I do go anywhere I wear gloves keep away from people as much as possible and use handgrl if I’ve touched anything including money.
I am paranoid and possibly over cautious but so far it’s worked for me. I also make any visitors - I’ve not had many, use my handgel.
Walking is a life saver for me too. I love getting out.

Well done Michelle ! That’s the first one done and dusted , I’m the same as others and kept myself to myself for the first couple of weeks just going for occasional walk x the third week I get excited just going to Tesco !
Day 5 T , spent the day mostly in bed today , not ill just very feeble lol achy legs etc so I’ve just took myself to bed to ride it out xxx

Hi Ladies,

I just thought I would update you as I have been off on a two week delay between treatments. Most of you sound in high spirits considering xxx

My new oncologist got a second opinion from a top professor who advised I have one more Abraxane and Carboplatin which will be my 4th cycle and then call it quits. It will be another reduced dose 80% Abaraxane and 90%Carboplatin. Both drugs are responsible for the Peripheral Neuropathy and Tinnitus that I have been having. After a two week rest both symptoms have improved thankfully. So Number 4 and last chemo for me is this Wednesday. My onc said he won’t give me anymore even if I wanted it as his words CHEMO CAN KILL YOU WTF and he would have only prescribed 4 chemo cycles for me from the onset. It hasn’t sunk in really…any of it due to chemo brain at its finest.

shocked - please make sure they know about your numbness as a reduced dose could be recommended.

aliand - you are like a super human as far as I’m concerned. You seem to be coping like an Olympian swimmer. Are you sure you need 8 treatments if the T is doing the job of shrinking it?

rosie, have you had the last one yet? I’m form the Midlands also. I’m going to a festival at the beginning of September but would like to meet up x

can I ask if anyone else has gone pale and yellow? My nails are very thin, soft and bumpy. I’ve cut them right down. My eyebrows are patchy and as thin as a pencil line and my eyelashes are few and far between. Considering having semi perm tattoo eyebrows in 3 months as I’ve been given a voucher to get them done for free. Has anyone experience of this.

lots of love to all,

Hi starfire , I had my eyebrows done pre chemo , best thing ever x

Shocked. I have been offered full node clearance as I had 1 positive sentinel node. I am not having clearance. Have had two loots of surgery prior to chemo - lumpectomy then an extra shave. In my case my boobs were big enough to have a lumpectomy. Next it’s rads.

Aliand I think you asked this…you have at least one month after chemo before rads and I expect they will give you however long it takes before you start rads after surgery. You will have to be fully healed.

Jamesey, yes the strong eyebrow look is definitely on trend isnt it.Apparently you look younger with thick brows x

Shocked - my hospital states 1 month after chemo before starting rads. I’m not certain if this is standard x

Hi Starfire,

Nice to hear from you and that you have a plan of attack.  This chemo business is the pits and I’m so glad we’re all approaching the end of this awful journey.  I’ve also been experiencing tinnitus, I did before but since starting chemo sometimes my head just screams!  I haven’t gone yellow but defo very pale with red blotches (T has caused bad dermatitis on my hands, feet and face) and dark under my eyes - I actually look more ill now than when I had the tumour!

I hope it goes ok for you tomorrow, we’ll be thinking of you xx

Hi girls

Starfire great that you have a plan you are comfortable with. I was about to type happy but who can be happy about this rubbish !
Hope that the SE are tolerable.
Really glad you’ve had that 2 week break to let your body recover.
I’m not Wonder Woman I’ve just been lucky this time that the SE have been easier for me to tolerate.
Shocked I’m not questioning my 8 doses. For me mentally I just need to know I’ve done all I can to prevent re occurance. So I prefer the head down and get on with it. I think you lot who ask so many questions and make your own decisions are so much stronger than me.
2 weeks on I’ve still not got proper taste back. Frustrating but trivial in the grand scheme of things.

4 weeks to rads post surgery - great that could be the week we were hoping to get the kids away ! I wonder if they are happy to delay it. I really want a week away before my eldest goes to uni. Could be the last time we holiday together. Was thinking canal barge then I can sit and do nothing.

Better not swim in canal, just float in boat !

Starfire…Thank goodness youve fot your plan. So you finish this week as well!!! What a journey its been, you have been so brave and amazing.

So im surgery then rads so is it four weeks after surgery before Rads. I got my Tamoxifen yesterday to start two weeks after surgery.

Yesterdays session was better than I expected, my best friend came with me and we just talked solidly all the way through…

That Masectomy pillow looks amazing I must get one.

Shocked I hope you get a few good days before the next one…those days are so precious xxx

Michelle Im the worst one to give advice on what to do and not to do. Definately get out working with the dogs, exercise has been my saviour. As for being careful, Ive been shockingly not careful and Ive just been lucky.I have used a hand gel a lot though…just be careful and listen to your body

xxx

Aliand I’m going to ask for a weeks delay before rads if I can I want to surprise my girls and turn up on their holiday abroad if I can , will have to get Hickman out first and see how I go with last T but I think our bodies need a bit of a rest before the next bit , four weeks is really only one week later than when we would normally have last round of chemo so if I can bag an extra week and get away on a beach I’m going to go for it x

Thanks all for your advice, really appreciate it. X

Shocked, you are far from a wimp. Some of us need info and some of us dont want to know. One thing for sure none of this is for the faint hearted and you have had even more to deal with than the average bear so never ever think youre a wimp…xxx

Been staring at the internet today have our hols booked for October. Its a really posh hotel and golf place (we both play, well my husband plays and I just hit and hope) We booked the place as a treat a few years back but then downgraded because we moved so this year we decided we needed it…can lay on the beach with my new boobs sticking up in the air!!!

We have so much to look forward to ladies…xxx

Defo recommend heart shape mastectomy pillows, still use mine even though I had my surgery in November. Helps me get comfy at night when I need a bit of extra support on my ‘foobs’ ?
Also really recommend getting a V pillow for post surgery sleeping. I couldn’t lay at for a week or so - v pillow was a godsend.
TCH cycle 5 of 6 done yesterday - feeling pooped today but pretty sure that has more to do with the lack of sleep from the steroids!!

Shocked I’m not sure if it’s the same but my granddaughter had her jabs and it was ‘ live ‘ so they said to keep away ? Not sure if the meningitis one the same but defo get it checked out xx it’s never ending isn’t it ? Take care. X ???

Shocked you are not a wimp no way !

Meningitis is not a live vaccine but I’d still check he can easily have it from your GO later on if they think it’s best.

Holiday planning gets s big ??? From me well done girls. Get those ?? bought and enjoy x
Swim girls swim x

Glad to hear it Shocked xx

Shocked I’m day 7 post T and still feel achy and I had to take an anti sickness pill for the first time today , when does it start to tail off ? All new S/e to get used to , was fine for first three days , last injection tonight so that should help x

Yes, I only got my taste back in the last couple of days Shocked.  Was so good to get rid of the metal taste, it makes me feel sick ?

Jamesy, I would say that the SE’s for me lasted almost 14 days.  Even today (day 15) I am really lacking in energy.

On a brighter note, I went to a Look Good Feel Better session yesterday.  It was nice to talk to some other ladies about chemo, etc and took some really nice bits home ?

Oh gosh shocked and Amy , that’s a long time to feel crap isn’t it ? Much longer than fec . I’m not too bad as I love on my own and can basically sit all day and chill with feet up but I hate doing nothing x hopefully will feel better by Monday as the weather is picking up and I want to get in the garden and sunbathe lol xx factor 50 on head !! Hoping the sunshine will make my hair grow xx
I’ve got line flush in the morning so will have a word with the chemo nurses the pain , at the minute paracetamol and brufen is taking it off so fingers crossed on way out x difflam and Manuka honey drops are keeping mouth on track so far x ??:heart:

Hi ladies

Just been catching up on your posts.

I have 3xFEC and 3xT. For me the side effects with FEC were worse. My hospital gave 10 days of anitbiotics with each T cycle which really upset my stomach. The T pains generally went away about a week after the infusion but the anitbiotic side effects lastest until a couple of days after I’d finished taking them. Also you’ll probably find that you take a little longer to recover each cycle. Your body doesnt recover 100% before they hit you with another lot of chemo. Take it easy and be kind to yourselves.

Keep swimming!
