Join Lily and Horace on the gentle cycle challenge?

Hi Carol, welcome. I know 10k is 6.2 miles so 5k is 3.1 miles so I should think you walked about 1.5 miles, thats a good start.
I have walked round shops today for 5 hours but just bimbling so think I may have caught everyone up. 7th and final chemo tomorrow so will be taking a week or so out but I will be following on everyones heels. Lottie is raring to go…

Hi,
Caro52 how are you? Always pleased to have more people join in on our big trip. just do km or miles whichever you prefer and whatever type of exercise suits you. I managed 1 1/2 yesterday and today, one on the exercise bike and the half walking to and from my daughter’s graduation today. Does anyone else find some days a lot easier than others? I go into slug faze really easily. Determined to get to 5 though. Keep battling everyone. Carol lots of luck with chemo get a taxi to join us whenever you feel able to go again. I know you have it tough so big hugs
As an incentive anyone reaching the target by Saturday morning gets a complimentary ploughmans, bottle of wine and large pudding. Deadline is noon on Saturday.

Hi all,

You all sound to be doing so well!

I’m just back from taxotere number 3, and still high on the steroids, so I’ll try to catch up before Saturday - after that I think I’ll be hitching lifts for a few days whilst the aches and pains in my rickety old knees take their toll!

Ploughmans sounds great, so I’ll do my best!

Did 1 km yesterday and 2 today.
Where are we meeting on Saturday - I will forgo the large pudding, that’s the reason why I need to lose the weight!!!

Me too - but the ploughman’s and wine sounds good - I’m going to be playing catch up to get 5 done by Sat but I’ll give it a go!!

How far does right round Ikea count - especially as the day after taxotere and with only 6 hours sleep during the past two nights?? I’m sure I deserve that ploughman’s: just a shame I probably won’t be able to taste it!!

Good luck to all, and keep up the good work,

Hi everyone,
I am up to 4 1/2 so far with the ploughmans in my head!!! I would forgo the wine and have the pudding myseldf, which is also why I need to keep this up. Shopping definitely counts, pleasure and pain! I have my op on MOnday so will probably be catching a taxi myself! I need to find out how long the chunnel is next to see how many weeks, we need to make it to France. Get those passports ready and good luck with this week

Just got my bike back after 3 weeks in cycle shop while tw*t mechanic failed to order the right parts…pedalled off to meet friend for lunch, then hospital for rads and home. Round trip of about 7 miles which even during chemo would have been a bit of a doddle (dyed-in-the-wool cyclist, and London doesn’t have too many hills).

But knees, ouch. Amazing how 3 weeks off can affect what little bit of fitness I had. Blimey.

Good luck all, and keep at it! I will, now the bike’s back…desperate to get some sort of return to fitness.

Done 4.5 km saving the other 0.5 for tomorrow am

Hi ladies
Out of the tunnel at last… and 5k done today. Hope I haven’t missed the boat…tunnel… x

5 km - Oh yum the ploughmans and wine looks great!

Hi,
completed my 5km today so putting my feet up for the rest of the weekend apart from watching football Sunday pm.
Well done if you managed it. If not you have till Sunday evening when the next one starts. Please be kind to yourself if this was not a good week, it is when and if you feel up to it.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend

Hi,
well I am booked in to hospital in the morning so it might be my opt out week. Target for this week is to complete 5km again, to get through the first section through the tunnel on our way to France. This week an additional target is to try to complete two of the 1/2 km sections at speed if you can. So run or cycle faster.
Good luck and have a lovely week, if you can. If not rest up and join us when you can.

faster… ??? Are you joking!!!

Oh heck - is there another meal and glass of wine at the 5kms stage.

Good Luck for your op Lily.

Just fallen off the wagon/bike/feet with visit from Most Ancient Friend for weekend, we did manage about 4km of dog walking all told, a great deal of seated talking (which rhymes with walking, does it count?) and walked about a miles to & from hosp for appt today but have been curbed with Boy off school in catching up any further… may have to run, er *run*?! Copious snow and ice all around here and I was reflecting that on a bike you have about two inches of tyre making contact with the solid scenic water um so I’m wimping out here…

Good luck for chemo, op and other kaleidoscopic ranges of yummy treatment …

Are you ladies using pedometers here or just are ve ve good with maps and bits of string?

Great post Caro52! Does toboganning count? No snow here but lots of beach walking in freezing wind & rain today - no pedometer so at a guess 3km. I’m with Topper - do we deserve another meal/glass of wine yet?

Hi,
well I am wimped out after the op so not a good example for anyone! I have km on my exercise bike, so set it at my target and work back to zero over the week, or not as may be the case. No snow here but dangerous sports are definitely banned unless involving expensive holidays! So far no distance completed and I may be catching the train this week. At the 5 km mark in the tunnel, hot deep pan, stuffed crust pizza of your choice and Cold bottles of beer await but stocks run out at noon on Saturday. Horace are you ok? Need a ride?
If you are on a poorly week try one km and catch the train

Hi,
well escaped the butchers and pain gone so very gently cycled 2 km over the day. We need to get somewhere warmer asap
Lily x

I reckon toboganning def counts Carolj (thanks!) - I always work up a right old sweat doing it!

Boy is going ice-skating with school today, not sure why they bother as skool playground was literally an ice-rink at 8am this morn, they could save all that dosh for - baked Alaska!

My thigh fronts (too much info coming up…) are all pummelled from walking around on icy surfaces but has occurred that with all this solid water around, the usual swamp aka local dog walking park, may feel a bit more solid under-foot than usual…

Currently searching for warm socks… my feet have been freezing for past three days… am contemplating mustard baths, they’re supposed to be good aren’t they? (for feet, that is!!!)

Have just heard from one of my walking partners for the Moonwalk 2009 that she’s got in, my form went in a day or two ahead of hers (but I wrote me address in nice clear letters whereas they had to ring her up to see what her address was, unscrambled!) … yay … means this trip to S of France is even more important to prevent embarrassing scenes in May…

Pizza in tunnel? Yay … haven’t had one in years … what an incentive! Mind, S of France, no shortage of pizza places there (was in Provence in October en train tres vite) had my work cut out to persuade DP and DS to eat some real French food!

Lily hope post op recovery continues apace, don’t overdo it girl!

Cherers all!
