I am staying put in the Lille hotel then. The fir tree sounds painful!! I will be swimming widths in the hotel swimming pool until someone joins me or until the ice melts off my brake blocks.
Dear Topper
Are you still swimming round the pool. Am pedalling fast to join you. The practicsing for the pedal it pink marathon is improving (have managed half the distance this week)
Have come to the conclusion that pedaling on an exercise bike is harder then the real thing.
Meanwhile for all of you recovering from chemo / rads i was realising that it is a year since i finished chemo (still had rads to go) and suddenly realised that I might have energy again. So keep on pedalling/ walking / climbing the stairs, there’s light at the end of the tunnel and i’m bidding to join Topper sipping drinks by the pool.Anyone else planning to join us??
Crispy
Horace is lying on a sunlounger, drink and book to hand, watching Topper swimming energetically. Her broken leg[h not t]is slowly mending but she is opting out of anything more strenuous than turning pages for thr forseeable future.!
hi Horace
That’s what I like to see encouragement!!
Do you fancy moving your sunlounger to the less sunny climes and sit in the cafe and raise your glass 18 times as i pass whilst cycling the marathon?
Topper how many lengths have you done? do you think it is time for a convivial meal?
C
Ahhhhh yawn yawn. Oh Horace, the afternoon nap was lovely after 40 lengths of the pool this morning. Can you pass me a drink, please?
Hello Crispy where did you spring from. Are you up for cycling with me to the South of France? We are supposed to be meeting BaHons who is cycling up to meet us.
I have misplaced my map at the moment but I can workout the route tomorrow.
What sort of mileage per week do you want to aim for?
Horace can you drive a camper van? It might be a good idea for you to be our backup until you are well enough to get cycling again. Are you any good with maps?
Topper
Well I can borrow son-in-law’s 70’s VW camper van with awning and I have a sat nav for France:)Here’s the waiter do you want alcoholic or fruit?
The sun is over the yardarm so I will have a petit aperitif s’il vous plait.
The VW sounds good. I couldn’t leave you behind Toby Jug, to limp around Lille on your own. Are you casting off the cast off on Tuesday?
I hope Crispy isn’t too fit and speedy on the bike. I might need you and the VW more than I anticipated.
Where are you Crispy- I am waiting at Calais for you to come out of the Tunnel. I will be heading for St Omer starting tomorrow, it will be about 45 km. Do you think we can manage 5 kms a week to start with? we should be there on Saturday 30th May at that rate.or April 25th if we do 11kms per week. Shall we meet up at the 5 km mark and see how we are doing.Or are you superfit already? I haven’t been on my bike since the brake blocks froze in Feb!
Ok my old pal I’ll drive very slowly-I have put memory foam pads on bunks just for us.Hopefully will say goodbye to legbrace[which replaced cast] on Monday afternoon then may need some physio to get moving properly.Since the trampoline incident people keep telling me I will ‘bounce back’ so am thinking of getting a space hopper next!
Love Valx
Dear Topper,
You set off off at 5 km a week and I will make haste to join you.
Having seen Lily and Horace’s challenge I rather foolishly set myself of the challenge of cycling a marathon for breastcancer campaign on April 19th. When I started joining you I was only able to cycle about 5 km . Today I’ve managed about 3o km so should catch you up before too long.
It will be good to have a support crew Horace. Could the camper van act as a windbreak? It was a bit difficult cycling against the wind today?
Crispy
30kms in a day!!!
Heavens Crispy you will be in South of France before Easter.
I managed 0.5km on the eliptical trainer this morning. I think I better start gently not having been on the bike since Feb. As I said before the cycle is a little bit too big and I need to wear platform shoes so that I can reach the pedals.
I will let you know how it goes. As long as Horace is there with the van I am sure we will be fine.
Camper Van can be anything you want it to be!In real life it is a battered old VW much loved by s-i-l but on our virtual ride it can be a Tardis with all home comforts at the end of a long day.xxx
Swam for an hour most have been at least 0.5 km and went on a charity cancer research daffodil walk for around 3km. Total for 4km so far this week.
Is anyone else going to join Horace, Crispy and I??
love the idea of the tardis. Probably don’t manage much on the elipitical trainer but could do with the practice .Will let you know how I get on at the Gym tonight. (if I get there!!!)
Crispy
1.5 km on the cycle. Think I will just pop into the Tardis for a drink of water. Got to do a bit of gardening now.
Brace yourself Horace . Oh no today is the day for unbracing isn’t it? Hope it goes well.
Hi Topper mind if i join you in the Tardis when I’ve finished pulling the russian vine off the wall (in stages of course not to run the risk of lymphoedema)
Can you manage with both of us Horace?
C
Just had an hour at hydrofit- That must count for at least 1km
Running total= 5.5
1 + .5 on the bike = 7 kms.
Should be doing my college stuff now
bye
well done. Hope the college work is going ok. Have work to complete too.
2kms more = 9km
Who chose south of France?
Hi
i think south of France sounded a good idea when it was cold outside.
Have had to park my bike up and do some gardening (its been neglected since I started treatment). Now if 3 hours mowing. digging etc(source nice lady on Gardeners question time) is equivalent to an hour at the gym what does that equate to on our bike ride? Any ideas anyone?
Bahons are you still cycling up to join us?
Crispy
