I cheated and had the jam!
Meanwhile they have cancelled my last EC and want to prioritise surgery over chemo. I’m on a high dose of steroids and i think my stomach couldn’t cope with steroids and chemo and colitis. So they want me to reduce the steroids in time for surgery.
I can have my PICC line out.
But it feels like a hollow victory…one friend suggested i hadn’t been managing my stress levels. I was wondering that myself. The professionals didn’t say that but they don’t know me…
I’ll ask when they phone me today. I’m going to try not to fret!!
I hope the radiotherapy is sorted for today, @ldm
Xx

Ah glad you have a bit of a plan.

I’m sure you have been trying to manage your stress as much as you can  . Don’t beat yourself up you’ve been going through a lot. EC is tough! I’m only just feeling normal now 2 weeks after my last one and I didn’t have all the other tough stuff going on Xx

I think a situation like this deserves some jam

Sorry you’re skipping an EC but if it’s doing more harm than good then it’s the best solution

Does this mean steroid wean btw now & Jan?

Hope it does mean some respite for a few weeks

X

Hi @idcand49
Yes, I’m going down by 10 every 5 days so i just come off them a week before surgery.
I am wondering if anyone’s treatment has gone ahead without a hiccup or incident? Reading back through our posts, it seems as if everyone has had some problem!!

Sorry about the last EC @cf640. Its tough when the plan changes last minute. Hope the call with your team was reassuring.

It will be good to have the PICc line out. New year swim?

If you are ok with the jam maybe a cream tea:)

@ldm I hardly dare ask - how did today go? X

@pipspops - ended up there nearly 4 hours and had to go in twice. The 1st time they finally got the position but didn’t fit in the margins. The team leader (who was lovely) went for some advice. Ended up going back in and after nearly an hour managed to get the correct position within the margins. However as the team leader pointed out this would be too much for me to go through for 15 sessions (and tbh my arm where the lymph nodes were all removed, really hurt by the end to the point I thought I’d have to ask them to stop).
I’ve got to go back today to see how quickly they can get me in the correct position - they managed to get all the images yesterday. If timings are ok they will go ahead, if it’s too long I will have to have another CT planning scan which would mean a delay. I’m totally expecting the scan.
Issue (I think) is they think boob is bigger than when had scan. I got asked twice If id put on weight (I haven’t, if anything I’ve lost a couple of pounds) or if I’d noticed any swelling which I haven’t - I get a bit of swelling round my lymph removal scar, but not my boob and that hasn’t changed for months.
If they say I need another planning scan then I think I’ll get the BCN to check there isn’t any swelling that isn’t obvious to me. The operated on boob is larger than the other one now, but again I noticed that months ago and I don’t believe it’s changed since my original scan.
On a positive - the team were really good today and explained why they were doing things and apparently this does happen sometimes and it’s there problem to sort. The planning lady who deals with problem cases like mine acknowledged what I’d been through this year and understood how hard a further delay would be. If it is another scan then I’m concerned the same thing could happen again, plus I’m not sure how I’m going to cope with a delay as the thought just really upsets me xx

Thank you to everyone who sent supportive messages - this group really is full of some amazing people

Just out of interest - how long did people wait from their planning scan to starting radiotherapy?

Apologies for the long response!! Xx

Hi @cf640

I also had my last EC cancelled this was down to a personal decision by me as it was affecting my kidney function but more importantly I lost my Mum recently, she has been in a care home for 2yrs with dementia so although she is now at peace I will miss her dearly :sleepy: just glad she saw me through the worst of my treatment.

I have since been busy planning her funeral and just needed to have the strength mentally and physically to get through this. I have surgery early Jan and picc line being removed today :+1:

Just thought this might help you know you are not alone.

Xx

I was thinking of you yesterday and it was definitely a busy day for you @ldm . I’m pleased that you were dealt with both nicely and sensitively, even though it’s not over yet it sounds like you’re in good hands. Goes to show it can happen, and perhaps our body shape can change a bit without us realising it, when we look at ourselves everyday we don’t see any difference.
My radio set up was done 2 weeks prior to starting (on my last chemo week).
Definitely easier said than done but take each bit as it comes - if all goes well at the next appointment you may have been worrying about all manner of problems that you may not need to. You’ve enough to think of :kissing_heart:
Just a funny to report - walking down a hospital corridor this morning and the main doors were open so there was a breeze. I actually felt the wind through my hair for the first time in months! Felt really strange to have my hair blowing in the wind!! :person_bald:t2:
Hope all goes well today for you xx
