July 2024 chemo starters

@caz1970 I’m so, so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you’re going through, losing a parent and also going through this tough treatment. Sending you lots of love. xxx

@ldm

Sorry you are still in a bit of limbo but at least they have acknowledged that something has gone wrong and now needs to be put right. I had my planning CT when I was having chemo and then I was supposed to have radiotherapy 4 weeks later (2 weeks after chemo) but I had an unexpected temperature and hospital stay so everything got pushed back.

Fingers crossed they will get you sorted asap.

@caz1970 sorry for your loss. It’s not easy dealing with the grief and funeral arrangements at the best of times but on top of chemo as well. It’s not easy but you will get through it.

I was selling my parents home between week 1 and 2 of chemo last year and it was so stressful. I didn’t want the buyers to know I was having treatment but had to let their solicitors know when trying to arrange exchange and completion. It then took another 5 months before everything was finalised and I’d only just finished radiotherapy and still having Herceptin. Fingers crossed yours will be smoother. Take care of yourself and let your team know how you are feeling.

Hi all
Thank you for your lovely supportive messages!
It’s wonderful to feel heard and understood.
Somweonee mentioned that an oncologust said to them yhat we don’t need all our treatments- i think it was on this forum? I missed 2 rounds. Out of my hands though!
I’m sorry to hear about your mum @caz1970. That’s really hard. Thank you for reaching out.
The trouble is ,life goes on for other people while we are in cancer world.
@pipspops wind through your hair! Fabulous. I saw a hairdresser briefly yesterday to show her my bald patches. I did hope she might see a sprig or two but she’s too honest and told me there’s nothing yet!!
@ldm i hope they sort it soon.
I’m finally putting curtains up so after surgery, I can watch TV during the day without the neighbours knowing! I haven’t watched tv for months- I’ve been saving up and plan on doing big binges
Xx

@caz1970 So sorry for the loss of your Mum. That would be so hard to deal with at any time but especially so with everything you’re going through. Sending hugs.
@ldm sounds like you’ve been having a nightmare with your radiotherapy, I hope they get it sorted properly for you soon. Good that you had staff that were sympathetic and understanding.
I had my planning scan yesterday and start radiotherapy in 2 weeks.
@cf640 Hope you’re feeling better. xx

How long did it take for eyelashes and brows to grow back for everyone and did you use any serum? I’m just over a month post chemo and using UK Lash serum but nothing so far. Has anyone used magnetic eyelashes?
On a positive note I have just had my first hair cut since finishing chemo just over a month ago Used cold cap but lost over 60%. I had very long thin strands and lots of new baby growth so hoping cutting it shorter will help the new growth blend in better.

Reading Victoria Derbyshire’s book, she had full growth back within 3 months post chemo, as in fully regrown, so it shouldn’t be long before they start to make progress.
I’m absolutely no expert on eyelashes (and they are the hair loss I miss more than I thought, as makeup without them looks ridiculous on me), but I think magnetic attach either side of existing eyelashes, which might have to be substantial to take the extra weight. I think there are sensitive eyelashes available which can even be used during chemo, but they are the sticky glue ones.

3 weeks tomorrow post chemo for me and I’m getting shadows on my eyebrow bones, but no eyelashes yet. :flushed::grin::sunglasses:

That sounds promising.
Think I’ll just have to be a bit more patient, hopefully our lashes won’t be too long in appearing.:crossed_fingers:

You have had it tough, as if it isn’t hard enough anyway without these bumps in the road! Sending hugs :heart_hands:

My friend told me her Mum was more upset losing her eyelashes than her hair when she had chemo years ago. I never understood why until now, at least we can draw eyebrows in, or cover our heads but eyelashes are so underrated . I have some stubby ones appearing but not enough for mascara. Think I’m going to ask Father Christmas for some
Sending positive thoughts to you lovely lot xx

Thanks again for all the continued support.
At my appointment today they had discussed my case before I got there and decided the best option for me was to redo the CT planning scan. They did this today rather than treatment and as I am classed as in treatment I’m treated as a priority and treatment should start very soon, I was told they hoped by the end of next week but we will see. They used a bean bag kind of thing to support my arm this time which was much better. I’m still stressing that the same thing will happen again but they did try to calm my fears over this and said it would be fine.
@pipspops love your comment about wind through your hair❤️. My hair is definitely coming back but I’ve not been confident enough yet to go out without head ware. I think because it’s such a short covering and a different colour!
My eyebrows are trying to come back but it’s all abit pathetic at the moment!! Xx

Glad progress was made today for you, much better than telling you to come back in a week for planning and then treatment after, keeping you on a roll

Been trying to get a photo of my hair, but it’s fair and grey so not photographing too well. Just photographed the top of my head from the front under a daylight bulb!! I only go bald at the hospital and at home, usually stick a beanie on if I’m out…… but getting braver out and about now it’s less egg like! :egg:

The longest ones grey!! Of course :joy::joy:

I was finding the Radiotherapy position very painful in my shoulder which was broken many years ago and the same side as surgery.
I have been taking Ibuprofen prior to my Radiotherapy appointments and that has helped. Good luck x

I somehow managed to delete my last message - not sure how I did that. I can’t even see a delete button😂
This is my hair now - it’s whitish at the moment!

@kerrylou1 technically 3 weeks since finishing, but after my EC came paclitaxel for 9 weeks and it started making an appearance then, about 1cm total and very sparse. Certainly ramped up in the last 3 weeks though :grin:
