Oh @charlie22 it’s so unfair that you have everything on top of all of this. Really hope you’re mum is ok and that’s you’re doing as ok as you can. You are NOT a crap mum… kids are so resilient, they can cope with this - just focus on a few prescious moments with each of them and cling on to those. You don’t have to be supermum/woman! Your partner is sadly quite typical of lots of men/peeps… they see that you’re ‘finished’ and that’s it, back to normal, get on with it etc… my partner is acting all passive aggressive now when he does stuff… I can actually feel the silent aggression coming out when he’s washing up!!! My bcn reminded me about the hair … our hair isn’t back yet so we’re not back yet. I can see it’s slowly growing back but it’s still time for that self care we all need. Hang on in there.
But definitely go for that job… no harm in applying and it might be just what you need in 2025 x
@jojoh hoping you are feeling a bit better? It’s a long process …but cording I believe does sort itself out relatively quickly. I felt fine to get up and about after my surgery but the stiffness does need a lot of work. Even now I have to loosen my shoulder and arm up most days but it does ease off.
@rrey keep calling your team… I don’t think there’s a deadline to their support so I’m sure they’d give advise when you need it. Did your drain come out? Onwards and upwards after that hopefully.
@ljlj you’re probably done now but hope it all went ok. Take your time and you’ll recover ok. Let us know how you get on.
@nicd are you finishing tomorrow??? Ringing that (2nd!) bell??
Hope everyone else ok… I dreamt that my hair grew back with black and grey stripes and everyone called me ‘Badger’ !! In my dreams, it was sort of cool so maybe it’s a vision of the future… ha ha … xx
@donna_51 , or should i say badger?! Youre so fab, well done with the personal messages and updates , my brain cant quite keep up like that yet , still in a chemo/menopausal fog!! Or maybe early dementia??!
Been reading about food additives that cause this… and have a fabulous app Yuka. Im addicted to it…you can zap bar codes and check whether theyre ok or not…food and toiletries, and they make recommendations as to alternatives. Check it out!
I am on last one tomorrow…ive had no bells to ring but ill have a glass of wine instead
Hoping no machine breakdowns to scupper plans.
And we’re off to london for celebration weekend , well day/night…in the wind and rain!
Although celebrations feel muted as found out last night by father in law has bladder and prostate cancer, having already gone through bowel cancer years ago. Crap news, hes such a lovely man, he doesnt deserve this. No one ever does though eh? Feels like one in, one out in our family…
I so hope youre all doing ok, recovering from ops, infections, cording and unsupportive families… you are all amazing , remember that xxx
Hi everyone … thank you so so much for all your supportive words … I really do appreciate them … and you guys as a group!! It really does help to feel I’m not totally crazy and alone in all this madness!!
It’s been a tough week again … mum still in hospital, heart rate just won’t go down and still has fluid on the lungs and to top it off there is flu on the ward and when I left today she had a temperature and looked really unwell again! Things between my partner has been a bit better … but he’s been very unwell this week as well with my little boy now the same way today!! What’s the saying it doesn’t rain it pours but on a brighter note I have put my decorations up … the red wine is on hold till tomorrow maybe!!.. and I had a glimmer of festive spirit bubbling!! I also have signed up for some Pilates in the new year … total novice but I thought new year new me all that jazz!! as for the job … spent hours finishing my application and send off only for the job to be blooming pulled off the site … it’s been replaced by a very similar role just not quite as attractive as the one I wanted though!! But still I think I will apply so thank you for the encouragement
@nicd I’m so sorry to hear about your father in law … how awful for him and you all as a family to have to keep dealing with this god awful disease!!
@donna_51 once again your way with words really does make such a positive impact (for everyone I feel) and I absolutely felt that about our hair not been back so we aren’t either!!
@jojoh and @rrey how do you know it’s cording? I’m not sure what I should be looking or feeling for and what’s normal or not?! My arm/ armpit feels very achy and like it’s pulling sometimes but I can stretch and move without much discomfort … it just feels tight!
@rrey i will find out in the 18th my results … so that works out at about 2 weeks from op. 6 weeks sounds like a long time, so im sympathetic towards the anxiety of having to wait! How are you feeling now? Better I hope?
@ljlj i hope your surgery went well and your resting and recovering well?
Everyone else … I hope you are all doing well?? Not much planned this weekend for me … a lot of local events have been cancelled due to storm darragh … but I’ll be visiting my mum, and as is our tradition of when the tree is up we will have a party tea and watch Christmas films with the kids when they are back from their dads on Sunday … so looking forward to that have a good one everyone
Thanks everyone! My surgery went to plan. I had to have a wire inserted first thing to show where the tumour had been & so the surgeon knew where to take out, and then waited over 5 hours from then for the actually surgery (with the wire poking out of my boob!). I came home the same day, no drains, just got to spend 6 weeks 24/7 in a post op bra and for the first week I’ve also got to wear a very tight binder wrapped around me too! I didn’t sleep well on Thursday night, but had a better nights sleep last night and I’m not in too much discomfort.
@charlie22 sorry to hear your mum’s still in hospital and flu is doing the rounds there. Keeping everything crossed for you that she’s on the mend and out of there asap. Enjoy your Christmas party tea, sounds like a lovely tradition.
My mum is taking my son to a panto today, so we may try to get out to the cinema or for some food whilst we have a bit of child free time! Although such horrible weather today here, feels like a day to stay in PJs!
Hope everyone stays safe during this storm pounding the country and has a good weekend!
I can visibly see and feel the cording. It’s painful under my arm (not the scar) and running down my upper arm. It feels very tight and when I touch it I can feel the cord. It’s like a thin piece of rope under the skin. When I lift my arm I can see the cording aswell. I have physio on Thursday so hopefully they’ll help me.
I’m starting to feel abit better thank you. I went to my GP yesterday and they did some bloods - my infection markers are up so must have an infection lingering. They’ve given me more antibiotics so hopefully it’ll be gone soon
@ljlj gkad to hear that surgery went well … did you have a lumpectomy? If so again the difference in how hospitals do things amazes me!! I hope you got to the cinema … and your kid enjoyed the panto! I’m taking my littlest to his first one this year … even the big kids are coming as well so really looking forward to that!
@rrey oh that sounds sore … hopefully the physio can ease that and sort it out for you! Mine doesn’t feel like that … just a bit tight and tender to touch quite near where my lymph nodes were removed, but it’s so hard to know what’s a normal amount of tenderness and soreness?!? I was advised not to drive for the first week … I only managed to the Tuesday with everything going on I had no choice … but I find that makes it more sore, which isn’t ideal … I keep stretching and doing my little exercises (although I do forget and then start doing them randomly) so hopefully that will keep it at bay! Glad they’ve t seed your bloods and given you some more antibiotics… hopefully all on the mend soon enough
We have basically been marooned in the house today by a combination of planned bridge closures x 2 across the valley because of wind, the diversion route for that is closed due to trees being down, and the only other road out has been closed with electricity cables down. The amount of rain is astonishing and the wind is still battering the house
@charlie22 my physio confirmed the cording and much the same symptoms as @rrey its painful and tight and can see them too. I was told no driving for two weeks at least (mastectomy) and I don’t feel able to drive yet anyway with the pain in my arm.
I’ve also had a lot of swelling in my chest/scar and it is really hard and puffy but went to see the BCN yesterday and she advised against draining it as they just fill again and to expect it to be like this for another month. She advised me to wear my bra with the softie prosthesis, which I have done for the first time today.
I also have a CT scan tomorrow for my kidney, as they found a small nodule during the original CT for BC… like Charlie says, it doesn’t rain but it pours!
Hope everyone is keeping safe and warm in this awful weather and is enjoying their weekend as much as you can x
@jojoh is it a build up of fluid you’ve got (a seroma)? I had this after my lumpectomy. Took about a month for mine to go down. I think lying down can help it drain away. Good luck for tomorrow.
Stay safe @pat. We’re on the edge of the storm at the moment I think although looks like it’s heading more east tomorrow. Supposed to be going to a Christmas market so will have to see what it’s like
I’ve been calling my op a lumpectomy, but it was actually a therapeutic mamoplasty - so the boob was reshaped (and is more perky!), so I think that’s why I’m in the binder to maybe help it set in place?!
Did anyone else that had an axillary clearance have a numb weird feeling through your upper/under arm post surgery?-I have and it’s spreading down my arm and into my hand…
We didn’t make it out at all yesterday, the weather put me off going out. We started watching Black Doves on Netflix with Kiera Knightly and Sarah Lancashire which had me gripped!
@jojoh I hope you get the results from your scan quickly and some positive news x
Yes I have a weird numb and oversensitive feeling in upper arm. I’m hoping it will go but it hasn’t changed in the 3 weeks since the operation though it was into my hand initially but that has gone
I’m very grumpy today. We had a lovely day planeed of Christmas cooking for the freezer, doing the tree and decorations etc. Instead we have had a power cut since 7.30pm last night, with no prospect of it being back on until at least 3pm tomorrow afternoon, so no point in putting stuff in the freezer The temperature is 14 degrees in the house but 5 degrees outside. Thank goodness we have an open fire so can keep warm. The biggest worry is my daughter’s bearded dragon who needs a heat lamp, so she and hubby are transporting the 4ft vivarium to my other daughter’s house
I think I’ll do the tree, can’t check if the lights are working of course, so will just hope for the best
@jojoh thanks. A friend has just dropped off a portable gas ring so hot drinks! Hot food! The world’s my oyster. Feeling much happier now. Nice and toasty in front of the fire and contemplating opening the M and S choccie biccys we bought for Christmas. It is an emergency after all.
@pat hope that means youve eaten the biccies, deffo was an emergency!
So my RT finished on friday, all active treatment finished! What a year…we managed to get to London for our celebration. Went to the War of the Worlds immersive experience, good fun, then dinner and drinks. Getting bsvk to my new normal…!
