Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Hello Everyone

Really hope you don’t mind me joining this thread. Been reading it for a while and you seem to be an amazing support network to each other and new people joining. So helpful to read when others are feeling or going through the same as you, makes you feel less alone in this rollercoaster ride, so thank you for that :smileywink:

Elaine I have had similar surgery to you 3 weeks ago today and feeling so much stronger, less tired and sore now. The waiting for scans op’s results etc is the worst part, learning to be patient was not and is still not my strong point! My emotions were all over the shop especially those first few weeks, then found this site and when I read others had had the same feelings and had come through it, it was such a help, didn’t feel like I was being overemotional anymore, and what I was feeling was very normal and people really understood. You’ll get loads of help and support on here :smileywink: Be gentle on yourself and good luck with everything and you MRI scan today :smileywink:

Good luck also to everyone else on the thread who have appointments etc this week, everything crossed for good outcomes for you all :smileywink:

Hi Julie, you are very welcome to join us,don’t know what I would have done when first diagnosed if I hadn’t found this forum as I felt so “abnormal” and on my own in this even with supportive people around me as they couldn’t really understand how you felt ,whereas when I spoke to people here they did .The fact that other people were going through the same thing was really comforting, like you say makes you feel less alone,we have even managed to have a laugh about things at times.Where are you up to with your treatment do you have a plan of action yet?

Welcome Julie. I’m sure you will find, like I have, that the support on here is amazing. I could not have got through the last couple of months without it.

And as Jill says, there are laughs to be had. On the day I first ventured on this thread, there was a discussion between some of the ladies about going to the dentist and almost having mistakenly taken their tops off so used they were to doing this in front of someone in a medical setting. I was just thinking about that as I’m off to see my dentist this afternoon for a pre-chemo check-up. I hope that I don’t forget where I am and disgrace myself. :smileyhappy:

Hi Jill

Thanks for the welcome :smileyhappy:

Totally agree that it doesn’t matter how supportive family and friends are (and mine have been) no one can truely understand the emotions on diagnosis unless they have been unfortunate enough to have been there. My Mum has had BC twice so I was able to talk to her about some of my feelings but at the same time worried about upsetting her as she was struggling with my diagnosis too, so was great to find this site and have another outlet for it all. The laughs alongside the support are all important too on here! :smileyvery-happy:

I’ve just had my oncologist appointment yesterday and she confirmed the same treatment that the surgeon reccommended, 15 radiotherapy sessions followed by 4 ‘extra zaps’ as she put it and also Tamoxifen for approx 5 years. Was so anxious before I went that they would’ve put there heads together and decided on other treatments but I was worrying about nothing, but that’s par for the course on this journey isn’t it!!!  So waiting for my CT planning appt now and rads start dates, but not so worried about that now that the initial appt is out of the way.

Hope you are doing well too :smileywink:

That’s great Julie, clear plan of action, enjoy the lull in the appointments!!!Peggy, do your best not to whip them out…we don’t want to see you arrested for flashing we have had enough trouble with Francine…

Thanks Peggycat and delly, sorry didn’t see your posts till after I’d posted!!!

delly my Mum had the same op’s as you and that was 22 years ago, she and people like you who have been through much bigger op’s than I have are such an inspiration, having positive stories on here helps too I think :smileywink:

Peggycat good luck at the dentist…remember clothes ON today!!! :smileyvery-happy:

Will definately enjoy the lull Jill! :smileyvery-happy: It’s so nice to have a bit of a break between appointments isn’t it :smileyhappy: Wonder if Peggys managed to behave herself at the dentist?!!! You have both made me laugh with those posts! :smileywink: x

Evening all. Just to report that I was totally well behaved at the dentist today. Another thing to tick off my to-do list.

Hope everyone has a relaxing evening. x

Glad you managed to restrain yourself Peggy!!!Francine how did you get on with Onc??

Welcome Julie… Glad your diagnosis is as good as it can be x x Lorna x

I hope everyone is ok this evening. Just watched Eastenders with the crazy storyline of Max! Decided to put a deposit down for Disney World next October, something to look forward to x

That sounds like a great idea Barry. Having somthing to look forward to is very important at the best of times let alone when you are both going through something like this. I will most certainly be planning a holiday somewhere in 2016 before long. x

PC We’ll probably do something earlier too. Our anniversary and my 40th in May and June. Where would you go? x

Frankly Barry, at the moment I’d go anywhere! Hubby and I were supposed to go to Copenhagen for a few days this month but BC put paid to that. Hopefully we can reschedule for spring. May and June are my favourite times to travel and I think you have lots of choice around that time without it being high season price wise. x

May and June is when we usually go on holiday too as it’s the best for weather and value for money x

Ange I’ve been thinking about you so glad you have the first one out the way:) and your partner has the next 6 days off. Welcome new ladies sorry you have had to join us but you have come to the right place this thread and the ladies on here have got me through. And when I have been at my lowest these ladies have made me welciome laugh out loud and feel very supported xxxxxxxx

Finally back from my appt with radiology and I’ll be having 25 sessions over 5 weeks, oh joy! Apparently research has shown that ladies with bigger boobs tend to suffer more skin reactions so they prefer to give a lower dose over 25 days than a bigger dose over 15 days. Cumulative dose is the same. Barry, might be relevant for Nikki too. Had my CT scan and tattoos, always fancied some of those but they’re not very exciting really! Hospital transport a bit of a nightmare, a 3 hour wait for the car and a scenic tour round the county to get home! Oh yes and I managed a trip to the dentist yesterday without stripping off, so proud of myself! My favourite place in May/June time is Cyprus by the way. Love to all. X Francine

Well done for not stripping Francine  interesting about rads, sadly prolongs by two weeks! Never been to Cyprus looks nice x

I can thoroughly recommend Cyprus, but make sure it’s the Greek side. Protaras has very nice hotels and beaches. We’ve been to Disney in Florida twice and loved it. October is s nice time and a drive down to Key West fantastic.

Obviously we need to take precautions with Nikki’s arm now. Yeah we’ve stayed at Disney twice now too. The buses around the parks are great as well as the food! x
