Yes .I couldn’t concentrate on anything or be bothered listening to other peoples mindless babble ,don’t know how I got through the 3 weeks in between diagnosis and op at work ,was barely there mentally.Looking back now I probably should have just gone off sick.I promise you it gets better, you are in shock it has a big impact on you mentally and physically.Do you know much about your cancer eg type ,grade etc?
I’ve just left Nikki to go to surgery. A huge amount of tears. Everything crossed now x
She won’t be long and will feel a whole lot better once it’s all been removed. X
That’s what I was thinking beforehand Lorna. We just couldn’t control the tears x
That’s the plan and plenty of boxsets x
Hi Tao,hope you don’t think we have been ignoring you, your posts will have been delayed due to being moderated as you are new to the forum. No chemo is not a certainty it will depend on a lot of factors that your doctor will take into consideration , the grade and dive of your tumour , whether cells are found in your lymph nodes and a number of other factors, they piece together all the information and discuss how beneficial chemo is in your individual case. When do you get your results?
That should be size of your tumour not dive !!!
Good luck to Nikki, although she is probably out now… keep up the good work Barry! Like Jill said, there is quite a big range of post surgery bras at M & S.
Oh Babypink, those early days are the worst, it’s all such a shock and you are left reeling! My concentration has been diabolical since I was diagnosed! It is all very scary and overwhelming at first, but it starts to sink in and you just get used to it really. Take any opportunity to rest; when your mind is in turmoil it will take it out of you, but it does settle down after a while.
I was in London for my daughters PhD graduation yesterday and for most of the day, I hardly thought about my cancer at all (I was diagnosed two weeks ago) and I when I did, I was just sort of looking at people and thinking “I wonder how many of them have or have had cancer?”. Probably more than you think, as the ladies said…not a club we ever wanted to be in, but there are a lot of members…you are not an outcast and you’re not alone.
Lots of support and advice here, we keep each other strong but remember it’s absolutely natural to be all over the place and feel lousy about it, just pop over here and ‘speak’ to people who know what you’re going through!

Still waiting for Nikki to come back from Surgery x
The surgeon could have told us it might take that long! They said 1.5-2hrs. visiting hours finish soon I hate waiting. x
I’m waiting in the tv room. I feel so drained, I could easily sleep in one of these chairs while she recovers next door x
Oh bless you being on your own pink, that must have been dreadful. I have had someone with me for everything, including the 15 rads! I hate my own company…I bore myself ;( x
Nikki is out, some delays when she went up and felt sick afterwards. Trying not to well up at the sight of the fluid drain down her side x
Baby pink I lost the ability to drive safely after I was diagnosed, had a few near misses and an incident with a barrel in a car park, who put that there…My concentration was shot to pieces…couldn’t read ,couldn’t sleep , couldn’t watch TV.Once I got my op over I felt calmer and more normal and cancer felt less scary as I knew what they were doing about it ,I also got my sense of humour back!!!Although I have days when it still deserts me…You will know more when you see surgeon about what happens next.
Hi Baby Pink, sorry you’ve had to join our club but we can all reassure you that how your feeling now is so normal when your hit with a diagnosis, I could barely get out of bed in the early days let alone focus on anything else, life just stopped for me but once the op was over and I knew the road ahead I gradually returned to the real world again, I finished treatment over 2 months ago and feel fantastic now! Xx
Being sick is pretty normal, Barry. I have had three general anaesthetics in my life so far and threw up fairy comprehensively after every one! Knowing this, I did mention it to the nurses and they said I should tell the anesthetist and they would give me something to help. Sometime after 11th September, I’ll let you know if it worked!

It was sad to leave her, she wished we could stay the night. The road to recovery starts now x
Hi Barry. So glad to hear Nikki is safely out of surgery even if she is feeling a bit rough. You’ll be feeling exhausted I bet, with all the emotional stress and not much sleep last night I should think. She’s in safe hands and they’ll be keeping her comfortable with painkillers. I too used to be very sick after anaesthetics but last time they gave me a good dose of anti sickness med before the op and I was fine. However, I am a ‘shiverer’ and that’s another common side effect of anaesthetic. You’ll be amazed how much better she’ll be feeling in the morning and she’ll soon be an expert at coping with the drain! You get some rest too, onwards and upwards. X Francine
There was a problem with paperwork and then the recovery so delayed her coming back. We were thinking the worst. The drain looks scary but I’ll become immune to it eventually. I’m mentally shattered Francine! x
Only before the op…He’ll be round tomorrow to hopefully discharge her x
