Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Yep, she’ll soon be home Barry. Make sure she takes her painkillers regularly, even if she doesn’t feel she needs them, as they help with the inflammation any surgery causes. I learned that after my first op! She’ ll need more rest than she thinks (us ladies are not very good at doing nothing) and plenty of fluid, to help her body get rid of any lingering anaesthetic. Can’t you tell I’m an expert by now, lol. My OH would have a good laugh if he read this, as I’m a terrible patient! Will be getting my hospital bag ready (again) tomorrow and won’t forget my slippers this time! Don’t forget to take a pillow with you tomorrow for the journey home, helps to protect the sore bit from the seatbelt. X Francine

Nikki’s text me from the hospital. The doctor said the op went well and there’s no new news to tell her. She can come home as soon as we get there this morning  x

Great…big chill for a few days …for both of you! X

Yeah need to try and relax for the next few weeks x

Hi all just has first chemo and I’m feeling ok got a bit of a headache and feel a bit woozy. But got my feet up my son and friend looking after me. Hope nikki can come home soon. I agree with pain killers and I managed to persuade the nurse to give me one last shot of morphine before going home which made things a lot more pleasant  hope all you lovely ladies are ok today xxxxx

Hi Sarah, Nikki is home now. Let’s hope it’s the road to recovery for her. Glad the chemo wasn’t too bad and pleased you have people to look after you x

Good news that Nikki is home, where you can look after her. Don’t be worried if she starts to feel more discomfort as the days go on. She’ll still have some anaesthetic on board at the moment so may not be feeling it too much. Keep taking the tablets! Sarah, glad you got the 1st chemo out the way, let them pamper you! I’ve just had my shower with the special antibacterial stuff they give you to use for 3 days before the op and shoved the ointment up my nose, as directed! Don’t know if all hospitals give these out at the pre op check but Leicester is fanatical about it and I can understand why, MRSA etc. 3rd time round, I’m an old hand at it all but hope there won’t be a 4th time round. Doing my VAT return tomorrow for the business, so that will keep my mind off it. Afraid HMRC don’t care if you have BC or not, you still have to get their money to them on time! Sending hugs to all you ladies, especially the newbies. Francine x

I have been reading the comments on here and it makes you feel like you are not totally alone.  I am having my operation wide excision and sentinel node removal on Tuesday and have my daughters Graduation 300 miles away on Friday and don’t know how I am going to be feeling or whether I should be looking for a “B” plan in case I am not able to handle the travel.

I am early on the list as I need to get there by 7.30am so I am hoping I go home the same day.  Does anyone have any good advice?  I’m usually okay after general surgery but I have never had operations on this part of my body and really don’t know what to expect. Will there be a drain as some of you have mentioned?

I’m starting to get a bit cncerned as we get closer to the actual surgery.  I was diagnosed on the 13th so have had time to get my head round it but still feel like I am swimming upstream and cant focus on what should be important. Little things set me off and I seem to be on the edge of my seat all the time. People are trying to be supportive and all of them have stories of someone they know who have had breast cancer etc…

Sorry for the moan.  Any advice would be greatly received.

Sandra, everyone is so supportive and they spout the same thing about being positive. But it’s not a switch you can just turn on, it comes and goes without even trying. When I found this site, being a youngish man I never knew so many women had or do join this club. Everyone is so helpful and good to talk to people who have been through it x

Yeah I’m doing my best to make her realise she won’t be able to do things so soon. She was upset the exercises hurt :frowning: x

Hi Sandra, welcome.I think you will probably be ok to travel by Friday .If there are no complications you will be sore ,but ok to do most things in a couple of days. .I found the seat belt was an issue depending on what side you have your surgery as it can rub against your wound, pillow or cushion will help. You won’t need a drain unless you have full node clearance or mastectomy. Please don’t feel alone there a lot of us going through this.

Francine third time round? You mean you have had bc three times! X

Barry has she been told to do exercises already? I don’t remember starting so soon. X

The physio told her to start today, she just 1 set. Were you told to do them 3 times a day? x

Sandra, I’m with Jill, you should be fine for Friday if you have no drains etc…can’t advise on that if you have as I didn’t. I just had seatbelt around waist and took it off shoulder. It’s not illegal when you have had op. It’s rubbish this bc lark isn’t it. But it’s doable and curable more than it ever was. It’s amazing what we can overcome and get through when we imagine we never could. Sending love and lots of cyber support. Lorna x x

Barry I can’t remember to be honest. Has she got a drain did you say? X

Hi Sandra. Welcome to the forum. I’ve had two WLE, one with. SNB and I was OK to do quite a long car journey within a few days. It’s normal for you to be let out the same day unless you have any problems after the op (not usual) and very unlikely you will have a drain. As Jill says, take a pillow to protect the boob from the seatbelt and don’t forget your painkillers!

Francine let’s hope you get rid of the bugger this time eh???

Yeah she has a drain :frowning: x

Hmmm the nurse should be around tomorrow, so we can ask again x
