Sounds like a good plan ! I think I’ll do just the same ![]()
Well thank you again to everyone for your nerve calming thoughts. I spent the day in the sun, mostly camped out near the circus tent in the festival with a nice non alcoholic beer.
We just got back from our appointment and I am so relieved to share that the surgeon got everything and the nodes were clear. The reason she got me in early was because it was good news. I’m just absorbing, but feeling very lucky. I know there is still plenty of stuff to get through but this is a major milestone. Hugs to you all for being my virtual gang.
That is good news! Hope you manage to relax a tad after you found out why you had been called in earlier than you expected. Let the news settle on you and may you have a far more enjoyable weekend this week.
I’m so very pleased to hear this @felineoptimist . You’ve been on my mind today so I’m so glad you messaged but even more than that I’m so happy to hear your news. I guess we have to take a bit of time to process all of the news we hear good and bad. After such a journey, and one you aren’t at the end of yet hearing something positive though is so welcome ![]()

Absolutely this! Me too! x
Whoop whoop @felineoptimist - great news. Now for processing that and taking deep breaths and releasing all that worry that built up. Enjoy the weekend. X
Hi all - just at update from me following my pathology results on Friday. It was all positive news
. Tumour completely removed with clear margins and no evidence of lymph node involvement pre chemo or now, so on to radiotherapy for me ! Need to wait for contact about when and how long for. 7 years of hormone blockers and Ribociclib likely down the line but it all feels such a relief although difficult to know exactly how to feel about it all. Think I’ve still go some emotional processing to do but for now feels like another hurdle has been successfully tackled.
Hope everyone else doing ok with the various stages were all at ![]()

Wonderful news @clarabelle1 . You must feel so relieved.
As you say, still hurdles to get through and preventative treatment to have, but for now, feel positive about gaining good results so far. ![]()

Amazing news @clarabelle1
I’m so happy for you. Xx
please talk me off the edge…..
went for final blood tests before surgery on Wednesday. Should have been fine. had no problems doing blood tests for chemo. except for today. was told I could leave and so happily left but before I could reach the hospitals main entrance I could feel water running down my arm. LOoked down and thee was blood everywhere and the dressing was soaked through and still blood came even when I elevated and compressed the site. Ended up having to go back into pre surgery clinic jumping the queue so the nurses could act to stop the bleeding.
I had visions of needing a compression bandage yet again. thankfully Ìt started to clot as the 10 minute mark was reached but this has NOT given me confidence my blood will behave itself during surgery. THe downside of being so far in the upper end of normal clotting times the heamotologists have tested you for every haemophilia disorder a woman could inherit. Had to sit for 30 minutes with a hot milky drink to stop shaking from shock. have visions of needing another emergency heam’ protocol and that is a place of nightmares as last time I was awake collapsed in theatre and was booked into ICU but scrapped into HDU and spent a few days being repeatedly topped up.
Those of you who have had surgery please remind me I can a) do this and b) the hospitals have looked after you post surgery.
Oh @wibbles that sounds super stressful.
But. You absolutely can do this. Your surgical team know so much about your medical history, from your self advocacy and your daughter’s support. They will be keenly aware, in a way the nurses may not have been today, of the way they need to support your body. Your surgery will be so carefully planned and they will be ready for the outside risks to present themselves. They’ll be watching you like a hawk when you come round.
I have genuinely warm and fuzzy memories from coming around from my surgery a couple of weeks ago as weird as that sounds. They were slow and kind and caring and I felt comfortable the whole time. ![]()
You can absolutely do this and the hospital team can absolutely handle whatever your body throws at them. You are not the first and only case like yours that they have had to deal with. And I think there is a huge amount of difference between a blood test with no real preparation and an operation. Especially for someone who’s history is know. They will be ticking all the right boxes for your case. Remember even before the operation your anaesthetist and the surgeon visit you whilst you are waiting and so you will have plenty of opportunity to remind them ![]()
It reminds me of what my chemo nurse said to me when I was changing to paclitaxel. She was telling me about the allergic reactions that can happen but her words “this is what we train for” they stuck with me
@wibbles how awful and so sorry to hear that. If it’s any consolation before my surgery when I was having a biopsy the wound didn’t heal and I also had blood all over my teeshirt two hours later and had to go to Minor Injuries to get it sorted. So it can happen to anyone. Bit of a shock. But surgery-wise you’ll be absolutely fine, they do loads of these ops every day and it is exactly what they’re trained for. I felt completely cared for and safe pre and post surgery. @foxgem is right to remind you that you see the surgeon and anaesthetist before you go in and they will reassure you and answer questions. You’ll be totally fine. Remember how awful chemo was and you got through that. Surgery will be a breeze ![]()

Hi Sam, how are you getting on? Are your eyebrows as bushy as mine yet? Haha. I made a delicious dark chocolate and orange cake yesterday
Without the pressure of needing to get cocoa in me it was really enjoyable
Hi, I’m pretty good thanks. Yes very bushy eyebrows indeed! And other body hair
. Having trouble with dry itchy scalp, I’ve got about an inch of hair now and using rosemary oil and jojoba shampoo twice a week but I’ve definitely got chemo dandruff. Anyone got any suggestions??
I’ve been working with a private holistic oncologist on lifestyle and genetic stuff, some very detailed blood tests and genetic propensities come back which are sooooo interesting. Am on a bunch of supplements for a while (eg super strength vit D, B12, vit A, cod liver oil, choline and some other stuff) plus adding much more antioxidants and polyphenols into my diet and focusing on trying to reduce my elevated cholesterol (much of which is genetic), poor bile production and improve my methylation. Reduced my exercise load as it was causing oxidative stress ![]()
, and increasing the weights I lift to try to help my osteopenia. It’s been a brilliant experience (though not cheap) and has given me exactly what I wanted which is a holistic look at my life and not just the one size fits all NHS pathway. I just wish everyone could get it for free.
Anyway I’ve decided not to take the hormone blockers which only add 2% to my Predict score anyway, and try to fend off recurrence with the lifestyle stuff I’m now changing.
Finished all my cancer treatment now and relieved that the last 11 months of my life are over!
Sorry for long post but hopefully some people might find some of this interesting ![]()
Oh @wibbles that must have been so unsettling for you. Sending you huge hugs and love for Wednesday ![]()

.
I echo everything everyone has already said. Your Surgery Team will be much more on the ball, compared to Nurses doing general tests etc. It was such a shame the Nurses didnt give you some extra minutes resting, before they sent you on your way. Then they could have monitored you better.
The good thing is, this incident today will have really highlighted your need to have everyone vigilant. So, although distressing to experience, they will have belt and braces ready for Wednesday.
You can do this. ![]()
