Big hugs to all those Badass Bald Babes - I miss my hair too! I have ordered my turbans from Etsy here :
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/WhiteFigAndCo
They are cotton with a wired part that holds to your head but is not uncomfy. I posted a pic ages ago when I first went bald. I have been opting for them rather than a wig atm.
hey all, does/has anyone had their heart rate suddenly increase when they get up/move around? Thanks
Yes definitely especially the first week after chemo. Even sitting on the sofa my heart rate can be elevated. A slow walk up the stairs and it will shoot up higher. I think this is a very common side effect. And actually my heart rate seems to have gotten a little better after each one
I get this too and also more just after treatment. I also notice it’s higher than usual when I exercise or have a hot flush etc. not sure if it has calmed down or if I just got more used to it xxx
Yesssss!!! Freaked me out in 1st round it does seemed to have eased by round 3 but still not back to normal xx
Back to WigS - right from the start I was dreading the hair loss stage. Ive just started my 2nd EC and it’s started… i had a wig consultation months ago and it will only take 2 weeks to put together what we discussed. Since then everyone has told me that they’re hot and uncomfortable and I’ve seen quite a few at the hospital that just look like - wigs! What has been your verdict if you’re a head of me and you’ve tried a realistic one? (a bright blue one or corn rows I would love on someone else but not on me
)
Yes me too. Mine spikes sometimes when I exercise, I wear a Garmin watch all the time so I can monitor it easily and ease off. It’s definitely a common side effect but I’m assuming it stops once treatment ends. Just a sign of stress that your body is under. Just take it easy ![]()
Hey @twink1 I just picked up my back up wig yesterday and it is fairly comfortable, I think the styling makes all the difference to how natural it looks. I’ve not worn mine out yet I can still get away with my clip on topper but I feel like it would be OK to wear all day but equally nice to pull off at the end of a long day! This is my wig up in a bun and I don’t think you can tell x
Does EC feel like a hangover to anybody? I think it’s the only way I can describe the 2 or 3 bad days? Just curious if anybody else feels the same ![]()
And the thought of doing more chemo is being hungover and the thought of doing a shot from the night before that makes your stomach turn?
Day 5 post 3rd and final EC and I’m on the up again now
onto docetaxel next for 3 rounds! Half way through I’m at the peak of the mountain about to come down the other side ![]()
Hope you’re all doing OK xx
Yes!!! For me it’s like a bad hangover and covid all in one!
The year before last I decided to stop drinking alcohol for a while. I did 1 month, then 3 months, then 100 days then eventually I thought why not do the whole year. I’m 525 days sober now because once I got diagnosed I thought well I might as well carry it on. I was not amused when after all this time I basically felt hungover again. I dont think I could happily be drunk after this now. It will always remind me of EC ![]()

Agreed - chemo gives hangover vibes and does lead me to want salt and vinegar crisps which is my go to hung over food! Although I may post active treatment have the odd G&T I have not missed alcohol and am becoming very partial to a Pentire coastal Spritz as my go to alternative for a “drink drink”.
Also I am still avoiding a wig fitting as happy in my cotton beanies and turbans - I may have ordered 3 more turbans. A girl needs options!
Oh dear! Shouldnt laugh ![]()
I know right! The year before my diagnosis I was doing so much to try and better myself and my anxiety ![]()
I’ve had mine for a while and it’s definitely not a daily use scenario yet. After a few hours it does dig in behind my ears, and it took me until yesterday to properly get it settled and styled in a way which felt like hair not a costume. Photo of me and hubby at dinner last night. The effect is pretty good I think, though anyone studying me for a long time would probably work it out. But then I have to employ strong self talk along the lines of ‘so what if it’s a wig, it’s none of their business’. It helps. I am planning to wear it to work on Tuesday all day.
And yes, EC chemo 100% feels like an atrocious white wine hangover. I’ve been describing it this to my friends since cycle 1! Luckily I’ve had lots of those so I have training…
Yes it does feel like that. All the crapiness of a hangover and none of the fun !
I can’t think of having a drink right now and given my very high oestrogen receptor status I think I’ll be limiting them post treatment too.
I might give Pentire a try - I’ve just brought some Mother Root but haven’t tried it yet. Non alcoholic things are so much better than the used to be so it’s a whole new world opening up.
Looks fab xxx
Mother Root with Fever Tree ginger ale was my go to in the winter. I like the Spritzers but now i have a thing for Hip Pop Cherry flavour. Lovely. Its a commercial Kombucha but I am doing some gut health stuff - just avoiding the home made!
I’m starting EC next week and I’m a former Olympic gold winner in the white wine hangover so I feel well prepped now!
Hair looks fab btw. ![]()
