Message for Sparkler & Lindiloo

Hi Fiona,
Yes they will keep a close eye on me now, will go for regular checks. I dont know how I feel really about the Herceptin being stopped, as it is a bit of “insurance” but I did feel really bad on it. so I guess I was lucky that the side effects showed after the first one if you know what I mean, rather than later in the treatment as I was due to have a year of it.
Totally agree with you about Jessie and Jodie, just so irritating and Sams the one for me too, liked her from the start. Felt a bit sorry for Ashley tonight though, they have been rough on her at times. Oh dear, I will really have to get out more!!! lol.

Hi Girls,
Just to let you know that I went to he hospital today and they have stopped the Herceptin, just keeping me on the Tamoxifen for 2 years then changing to Arimadex. He said that in view of what happened it could not possibly be restarted. He wants me to have a Doppler test on my legs as the swelling especially on one leg is not really settling. Go back next Monday for results.

How are you both? Been up to anything exciting? The weather has been gorgeous here, went to the hospital minus wig, so thats it now, its getting ditched felt sorry for the girls still having chemo in their wigs they looked really hot.

Well girls I am going to enjoy the last of the sun in the garden, hope you are both ok.

Lots of Love to you both
Jillx

Hiya girls, hope your both ok,
Jill, it certainly sounds as though they did the right thing stopping the herceptin after what youve been through, i too am only haveing Tamoxifen for 2 yrs then swapping to Arimidex ,think its because we will be well and truely menopausal by then , though think i already am as havent had a period since last july before i was DX. have you had the doppler test done today? i hope your legs start to improve soon .
Well done on going to the hospital minus the wig i think we should all have a wig burning party lol.
Fi, hope your ok have you been at work today? or have you been out enjoying the sunshine , its been realy hot here today too , i expect your still busy with organising stuff for your dads new flat is it friday hes moveing in?
Well ive got an appointment with my onc tomorrow just a check up i think after rads , im all healed up now so glad about that , though still got trouble with shooting pains in arm will discuss it with him tomorrow, read something somewhere about nerve pain so could be that ,
well girls hope you managed to enjoy the sunshine ,take care and chat soon.

Hi Girls

Jill - def the right decision about the herceptin - you couldnt risk getting like that again. A huge bit well done on going to hospital without the wig - as you say - thats it now - I called it going commando!!!

Lindiloo - your pains do sound like nerve pain - they are shooting pains - its the nerves regenerating probably. Let us know what the onc says.

We havent had sunshine last couple of days - but not bothered as I am been working or painting! Worked all day yesterday. Got some annual leave hours today so was over at dads painting from 0700 then went into work for 2 45 as they needed senior cover from 4 - they were so glad to see me when I walked in the door as we got a really sick boy in with bad burns - he is now off to an intensive care unit.

Off the next 2 days but - yes you guessed it - paint paint and more paint. Managed today to do all the woodwork and the edge of the roof in the lounge, bedroom and hall. INtend to be over there again for 0700 tomorrow to crack on - will be able to stay till about 6pm so should get a lot done. I know I am going to be knackered, and my back is aching - but it needs done and its only a week of hard graft.

Off to relax before bed - think I deserve a vodka and coke!!

Lots of love and hugs to you both

Hiya girls hope your both ok,
went to the hospital today but onc wasnt there so saw one of his associates, (dont you hate that) know its not nice saying that but id never met this one before and she didnt seem to know much about me, she didnt even ask to look at breast to check if healed up and just asked if i was alright. Anyhow i told her about arm pains and she has given me Traxam gel to rub in my wrist , and Amitriptyline (an anti depressant) for nerve pain in other arm, ummm im realy not sure about the latter cos she said it will make me feel quite tired (just getting my energy back)and its got a list of side effects as long as your arm. also you cant just suddenly stop takeing it you have to wean yourself of it ,mabe its just me but dont realy like the thought of takeing anti depressants for it, what do you think ? is there not a better alternative for nerve pain maby you know of something else Fi, wish i could have seen onc to see what he would have perscribed. Might have a word with Gp and see what he thinks.Anyhow i have to go back in 6 weeks to see onc again ( hope hes bloomin there next time lol)
Well what have you both been doing ? hope you both had a nice day, Jill hope your legs are starting to improve a bit, Fi, i expect youve got a paintbrush in hand lol
Take care both of you and chat tomorrow

Hi Girls

Lindiloo - you were so right but so wrong - it was a roller today - lol. I was at dads new place from 7 till nearly 5 today - but thats it finished - yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. All decorated, curtains hung back up and scrubbed from top to bottom. Carpets get laid tomorrow while I am at work (thought I would go there for a rest lol but just phoned my mate who is also my boss and work is manic so no rest for the wicked!!). And Friday the removal men come - that will be quite an easy day tho - compared to the last 3. I really think dad will be happy there - and its like a palace compared to his old place.

What a pain in the ass for you re the onc Lindi - I saw a junior last time too. My daughter Suzie, 2 years ago when she was really ill ended up with nerve damage in her leg and was in excruating pain - they tried her on Amitriptyline (which is very good for nerve pain and it was an anaesthetist who is very active in our hospitals pain team who started her on it - and he is very good) - BUT she was allergic to it - came up in a very raised, very itchy rash from head to toe (trust her) - so they changed her to Gabapentin - might be worth a chat to your gp about it if you really not keen??? I just cant remember if she was weaned off them or just stopped - but you could google that and find out about it???

Jill - how are you? Are the legs settling down a bit? REally hope you are ok xxxx

After dads move on Friday, we have a family function thing on - cant remember if I have told you both or not. Some cousins of mine are doing the moonwalk in Edinburgh (not because of me in particular - cos they did it last year before I was dx) - but they are doing it none the less. Anyway - after all the hard work of this past week - it will be great to finish it off with a few drinks and a catch up with the relatives I like - lol!

You both take care

Hiya girls, hope all well
Fi,Thanks so much for giveing me info on gabapentin and sorry to hear your suzie had a bad reaction with the Amitriptyline, sounds horrid. Yes i did read the leaflet last night for amitriptyline and looked it up online and all has said that you mustnt suddenly stop takeing them or youll get some awfull withdrawal symptoms so has to be done gradualy, i searched it on here too and read that most people are still on it 4 yrs down the line umm. I think it worried me a bit cos my mum was hooked on anti depressants for over 30 yrs and was not nice so thats whats put me off . I will definately ask Gp about the ones you suggested thanks Fi, bloomin arm has been acheing all day today and its makeing me feel nauseaus.
Ha, i was almost right about the paintbrush , gosh youve done well to have got finished already, its sounding like your dads new flat is shapeing up great and when the carpets go done tomorrow i bet it will look lovely for him. Awh im sure hes going to be real happy there and it will be a bit less of a worry for you knowing that he will have some extra support on hand.
Its great that some of your relatives are doing the moonwalk and that youll all be meeting up for a few drinks and a catch up after, hope you have a good time .Youll need a night out after all your hard work this week lol.
Jill, hope your ok , and your feeling lots better, hope you had a nice day.
Right off to google gabapentin.
Chat soon.

Hi Girls

Lindiloo - how did you get on googling gabapentin? I wouldnt really worry too much about your mum being on anti depressants for 30 years - they are completely different now than they were at least 30 years ago - and not so addictive. I have been on them for over a year now - cant remember quite why I started them now but every time I thought about starting to reduce them something else happened so was kept on them. I am now keen to start reducing them but gp wanted to wait another couple of months until I have felt ‘up’ for longer than a month or so. Some people dont believe in them but I dont knwo what kind of state I would have been in the past year if I hadnt had them for support.

Had a busy and stressful day at work today - on with junior staff who couldnt do lots of things so extra stress on me - when I was too tired for it!!

Off to relax for a while before bed.

You take care

Hi, girls hope your both ok
Fi, sounds like youve had a busy day at work, hope you managed to have a nice relaxing time this evening , youve had a busy week so no wonder your tired, did your dads carpets get fitted today ? it always looks better when the carpets are down doesnt it?, i expect youll have a busy weekend getting your dad moved .

I know what you mean about the anti depressants and i know they can be very helpfull sometimes and they can help lots , its just me ive just always been a bit of a tablet phobic, god knows why, before BC i hadnt had a pill in 25yrs not even painkillers, even though i suffer from migraines and used to get very bad period pain.Id just go to sleep with a hot water bottle ( was always my own worst enemy) god knows ive made up for it this last yr though with everything thats been pumped into me lol . For quite a few yrs i used to suffer panic attacks (though not ofen now thankfully) but because of mum i avoided medication like the plague. Like you say im sure they are so much better than they were in those days , i guess not knowing much about medications i was just a bit taken aback when the doc gave me anti depressants for nerve pain, i never realised that they are used for other symptoms as well and panicked a bit.
Jill hope your ok too,
Well better get off to bed soon or il be knackerd in morning for work.
Take care both of you and chat tomorrow

Hi Girls

Jill - your being a bit quiet again - are you ok? REally hope you are.

Lindiloo - have you started taking the tablets then or are you going to discuss with your GP

Thats dad moved into his place. Carpets went down yesterday - they are lovely. And I had him moved in with everthing unpacked, put away, pictures up etc. We will just have to dump stuff from the old house on Sat or Sun. Will see how bad a hangover I have tomorrow - lol.

Got a phonecaull while at dads today - so my suite gets delivered on Monday - yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. It will be like having a new house - dead excited.

I might have to try to have a snooze before I go out tonight.

Love to you both

Hi Girls,
Sorry I have not been on again, just have not felt right since coming out of hospital really. I went for a Doppler test on my legs on Wednesday,so be glad when I get the results.
Fiona; Glad your Dads move has gone well, and sounds like you have been a wonderful help to him. Hope he will be very happy in his new home. Hope you have a really good night tonight, and the hangover is not too bad. What colour suite have you chosen? You deserve a few drinks after the busy week you have had. Take Carex

Lindiloo; Sorry your appointment with the oncologist did not go too good, It is annoying when you dont see the main man. Have you reached a decision yet about the tablets? I personally have never taken them but I have two friends who have and they have really helped them, but I know where you are coming from, as it is quite decision for you. Maybe as Fi suggests a chat with your GP may be an idea. Take Carex

I will post more over the weekend girls, I seem to be sleeping most of the time at the moment, but I am sure it will pass once my energy levels increase. Hope you both have a good weekend.

Hi Girls

Lindiloo - you must be so proud of your son - how old is he?

Jill - how are you doing - hope your feeling slightly better.

I am pretty pleased getting dad in so quick - the place looks fab. Did a few last touches yesterday. Didnt quite relax all day today tho - had to empty last of junk from his old place - but it was only 1 carful so that was ok. Wander how dad feels now having locked the door for the last time?

The family fundraising thing was a bit of a disaster for the organisers - did not have a good turnout but we had a laugh anyway. Dad, Suzie and I then went to a barbecue yesterday - I was intending to drive but got persuaded to leave the car - lol. It was not a late night tho - but with drinking 2 nights on the trot I am shattered today - and of course had a very busy week - so think its all caught up with me.

I am off tomorrow and have to wait in for suite to be delivered - cant wait to see it in the room. Hopefully it will come in morning as I could be doing with a swim and sauna.

Hiya girls hope you are both ok,
Fi, yeah i am sooooo proud of my son Ben , he will be 18 on weds but was only 16 when he was picked to be a trainee makeing him the youngest ever fifteen graduate , it was tough getting in as there was endless rounds of interviews/taste tests ect, 300 applied and they then wittled that down to 70 and sent those on a 3 day outward bound course, then they finaly selected 30 to join Fifteen, they have gained their NVQ 1 and NVQ 2 while there ,As well as working in the fifteen resturant, they have had the oppertunity to do loads of stuff including a week in Italy working in a itialian resturant. Only 12 will graduate this year as some left (realised cooking wasnt for them lo ) and others were thrown off the program for one reason or another, (mad eh) It realy is a fantastic oppertunity for the kids and hopefully he will get a good career out of it, They ofen have the press following them about, and they have been on the TV news and radio a few times , so yeah realy pleased for him.
Glad your dads new place is looking fab , youve worked hard girl, he is so lucky to have such a good daughter to help him. Glad you enjoyed the barbecue and managed to have a few drinks, not surprised you were shattered. Did your new suite arrive ok? bet your room looks fab now.
Jill, how are you?, hopefully your feeling lots better . Have you had your results through yet? hope everything is ok
Well take care both of you and chat soon

Awh Fi,
Im the same as you,my dad died 2 yrs ago and it was a huge shock i was devasted, i loved him to bits and loseing him has left a huge gap in my life, people tell me im very much like him , i hope i am , ive always been very close to my mum and dad, always lived around the corner and saw them everyday. I still see mum everyday and help all i can too shes not just my mum, she is my best friend. Where i work i find it so sad that all the old people who have familys nearby , rarely get a visit from them or help them in any way, its alien to me ,
Glad you like your new suite ,

Hi Girls,
Sorry not been on over weekend, not been too good, but feeling a it better today. I went back to the onclologist yesterday and it is now just a matter of keeping a eye on things. Continuing with the Tamoxifen and my BCN is coming out to see me at home on Thursday she is great and very helpful, and really easy to talk to. My legs seem to be settling a bit, not as bad as they were by any means. so seem to be on the up thank goodness. Have managed to catch up on your posts .
Fiona: You have been busy, how is your Dad hope he loves the new place, and Lindiloo is right he has a great daughter. Glad the suite came and you like it, they always seem bigger when you first get them, sure you will get used to it. What did you think of the Nancy result on Saturday? I thought it was the right result, niamh was lovely but not quite as good as the others, but Jessie gotta go next week!!!x

Lindiloo: Bet you are so proud of your son, he has done really well. My Dad died too over twenty years ago now but I still miss him every day, and like you I look after my Mum, she was my biggest concern when I got diagnosed that she would be able to manage doing things, but she has coped great when I havent been able to visit. As you say it would be alien to me to not to help her.x

Well girls think I have caught up, and hopefully will now get back to every day posts, I have been having quite alot of trouble getting on to the site just recently, taking ages either of you had the same? Could be our connection.
So hope you are both ok.

Hi Girls,
Lindiloo: My hair is coming on very slowly, have ditched the wig, it was just too hot with hair! I went “commando” when I was in hospital and just carried on when I came home, I still feel a it naked too but nice to feel normal again. The colour is a bit naff, its come back a mixture really a dull brown and grey, but Im not complaining its hair!!! I am not sure when it is safe to colour it , think I will just leave it for the time being let it do its own thing till the strength comes back. Hope you are ok and have had a good dayx

Fiona: How you doing? Hope all is ok with you and you are not too tired with work and moving your Dad. Hope you are having a rest and that is the reason you have not been on. Take CareX

Well girls, today I have had the best day in a while, I went for a walk with my OH and visited my Mum, still getting out of breath a bit but nothing like I was. My friend is coming round tonight for a girlie chat so looking forward to it.

Glad to hear you have gone commando Jill - I have been very lucky with my hair - it has come back in much the same colour and very thick - had my first haircut last friday to thin it out as it was thick. Yours will come on I am sure.
