November 2024 chemo starters

My first cycle of Abemaciclib was fine, and I was due to start the second one last Friday, but my white blood cell count was too low to proceed, which really took me by surprise. I’ve been given a week off to let it recover.

Hi ladies - It’s been a traumatic week as we had a car accident , a large deer ran into the road and hit it as it was in a main road … devastated as the poor thing died :sob::sob: and our car has two thousand pounds worth of damage …
We weee both very shaken up and then we both had to go to work the next day … then husband went down with covid :see_no_evil:

I love the hair regrows pics ! @flojo your hair is really long !!

@flower5 - sorry to hear your white cell count is low … I don’t know anything about the hormone related targeted therapies so am rubbish with advice :disappointed: I’m hearing so much though how tamoxifen and letrozole seems to come with absolutely rubbish side effects :disappointed:

Hers a pic of my “nana” hair

Sorry to hear about the accident. Bloods have recovered enough to restart tomorrow. Apparently it’s very common to have these sorts of issues at the start, which often require a dose reduction. I did a bit of homework last night and the dose reduction doesn’t seem to make much difference to effectiveness, so not too worried if that’s necessary.

@shannon27 more shocked than anything … x

@flower5 - good to hear your levels have improved . don’t worry about a dose reduction . My oncologist said they hit everyone with max of the meds then tailor to suit x

The accident sounds horrific - I’m so sorry.

You look like a very sassy nana though! x

I was started off on the middle dose because my white blood cells were a bit low. I asked the oncologist why people are started on the high dose if they have to reduce it and she said it was because that’s what the trial dose was. But that in essence, they know that the medium dose is equally effective. x

Yes, when I read about it last night about half the people who participated in the MonarchE trial needed a dose reduction, but the impact on their disease free survival was negligible. Weirdly I’m starting back on the full dose again tomorrow, but the oncologist has noted that I “ideally need a dose reduction in future” - not sure what he’s waiting for!

I was told if I tolerate the medium dose they might put me up to the higher dose but I could also stay put - and then there’s still the lower dose! Best of luck - hopefully this round will be problem free. X

For all you Ladies on the Abemaciclib. Perseverance. The Diorhea is the worst side effect I’ve had but managed through diet and has not affected me so bad as some women in my support group But if it is too bad ask your oncologist to reduce your dose. I’m still ok on 150 mg. I really consider myself thankful. In the time I kind of left this group and focus on my local support group. 3 women in that community have passed away. It’s shocking to me that all were young. Hadn’t reached 50. Have left children without a mum. Thier circumstances were different to mine and thier cancer more advanced but they were same as us going through the battle against this cancer with family all rooting for them and the oncologist doing they’re very best to help them

That’s so tragic. Glad you are ok on Abemaciclib. I’m sort of ok on it - quite a bit of indigestion and feel totally knackered.

How is everyone ? I’ve had a visitor from Belgium staying … overdid it hugely and subsequently spent the last few days in bed :cry:

Oh no, that’s no good! I hope you are feeling a bit brighter now. It’s very quiet here, but that may be a good thing!

I’m ok - Letrozole seems to have settled and Abemaciclib is also ok so far - I’m really tired but the doctors just say it’s the effects of the pills. I’m hoping it settles as it’s tough with no energy. Still got the bone infusions to start in the next few weeks, which cause flu-like symptoms, I believe - it’s truly the gift that keeps giving.

I’m six weeks into my ten week exercise class and that is brilliant - it makes me feel so much better for a while…just wish it could carry on and perhaps twice a week, but I’m fortunate to be able to do it. Met some lovely ladies, so it’s just nice.

I’m still struggling to look to the future and plan anything beyond about a day, but I’m told that is natural. xx

@flojo - I’m struggling with fatigue too and also the hideous side effects of being taken off hrt (two week long periods with flooding and anaemia too ) so I can’t imagine adding in the side effects if the AIs too :sob: the exercise class sounds great though … have you done the BCN moving forward course ?

That sounds horrible @arty1. I remember it well from the original menopause. I did an online version of the moving forward course because there wasn’t one locally. It was very good, but I think an in-person one would be better - might see if there’s any new ones available Did you do it?

Isn’t it all just rubbish ! :sob::sob:

I feel about 100 … everything hurts … my periods are draining me of iron and my brains like cotton wool

I’ve booked onto an in person course in October… I feel I need to be there in person x
Are you able to rebook an in person one ?
