October 2017 Chemo Starters

Morning everyone! I did some yoga and meditation when I got up this morning, felt a bit shakey after breakfast but not as anxious. Feel ok now. I’ve also taken my sea bands off today. Hope you like your wig Karana, I’m going to get mine Friday.

So glad to hear you’re home Ali, rest well!
Ruth and mrsrims I read about Evonail on here and have been using it for a few days as I normally have acrylics but had to get them removed. It coats the nails and hopefully protects them from damage but time will tell. Have also had my eyebrows microbladed , it’s expensive but lasts a year . Unfortunately you have to get it done before chemo due to the infection risk. Am just keeping my fingers crossed re eyelashes but there are things others have suggested if you search on here (this web site is brilliant!). Tried cold cap on yesterday at pre ass, my hubby thought it was great as the chin strap was so tight I could barely talk lol! Don’t know if I’ll cope with it but it’s worth a try. Hugs to all xx

As well as running a pub I’m also a nail technician and done a bit of research re nails before chemo started.  I’ve deceived to carry on putting gel on my own nails, they recommend using a dark colour, I worked on the assumption if I was gonna lose hair, eyelashes and eyebrows I’d quite like to keep my nails!!! Really wish I had my eyebrows micro bladded but by the time I had looked into that it was too late ? but it will be something I will consider after treatment if they are a bit sparse!!  I’ve always had quite easy to maintain full eyebrows and think I’m gonna look like an alien without them!!! xxx

Hi everyone, two good days in a row! Wow that feels good- I’m on day 12 and it’s my husbands birthday so I am up and have made a cake and eggs on crumpets(birthday breakfast in our house) for the family who are all off today (INSET Day!) yay! We are going out for afternoon tea later and to play TopGolf and I feel so relieved to have some normality! I have not lost any hair or eyelashes or eyebrows and my hand and toe nails are looking amazing even with no varnish! (Got scared of using it because of the chemical risk - look on breast cancer research website under risks) - phew ladies at least we know there will be a good week in every three! Hugs to you all for what you go through today - just take it one day at a time - tomorrow could be better:) xxxx

I wish I’d got my eyebrows microbladed, as well as having the flu jab and going to the dentist! I also wish they’d advise you about this stuff whilst you’re waiting to find out if you need chemo. I waited for ages through the various tests and then when I was told they said I’d be starting the next week so too late for flu jab, dentist and microblading by then!

Claire-bell glad to hear you’ve had 2 good days in a row!

I bought my stick on natural hair eyebrows ready x
Although I have got tattoos I was scared to try micro blading in case it hurt x

Claire-bell glad to hear your feeling good…have a fab day celebrating ?

I managed to to fit in flu jab and dentist but also wish they pre warn you wot maybe a good idea to have done!!!

Have a a good day ladies xxx

Hi ladies, just popping in - so good to see Ali that you’re home!

I’m on Day 15 now and feeling generally pretty good. The normal days will come, honest.  Hair beginning to shed now, but since my first short chop made me look like a wrinkly escapee from a boy band, I’m content with it going.  Only wish it were spring, and then I could bung it in the garden for the birdies to make nests!

SueW where did you get your stick on eyebrows from?

I didn’t think fec was as tough on the nails as some of the others, is it? I haven’t prepared for nails! Where can you buy the evonail?

Thanks Jelly tot - Meesh I just searched for evonail and found it on the live better with cancer site.
Flu jab done and dentist tomorrow. Also spoke to a lovely beautician who said I need two weeks b4 chemo to get blading done ? As you said why don’t they tell you these things?!

Oh beautician suggested I look at a semi permanent eyebrow stain that you can get in boots - so I can put it on whilst I still have the outline of my eyebrows to follow! Am going to take a look this afternoon and pick up sea bands too.

Meesh got them from the wig shop but went to a specialist shop for hair loss patients x
The one I used is in Birmingham x

Meesh, I got the evonail in advance as the second half of my regime may cause nail damage. I’m just trying to be as prepared as possible! I have definitely become more forgetful and vague at times since diagnosis, so if chemo brain hits I’ll be completely useless!

I think it’s the T part of FEC-T which causes the nail issues most. I’ve started using a nail strengthener and painting my nails again to protect them and to stop me biting them. Annoying habit I know but something I’ve never been able to stop.

Well I’m on day 13 unlucky for some and certainly unlucky for my hair. Lots left in the bath and shall we say, I didn’t wash the hair on my head today. At least chemo should save me money on razors.

I’m only having fec but I’ll look up the evonail, just in case! I’m nowhere near Birmingham perhaps I’ll see if there is a wig specialist near me that can help.

Karana, how did you get on with your wig today?

Picked wig up…got in the car, open ended the box and closed it again quickly!!  I’m not ready to try it on yet I don’t think ? Xx

I went for my wig consultation today and have ordered on which is very similar to my current short style. I did try on some crackers though. One made me look like a cross between Boris Johnson and something from a 70’s sitcom!
Spent a lovely morning at my local Maggie’s too, met some very inspiring people.
Seem to have reached the wanting to eat anything that isn’t nailed down phase too!

Oh Karana, poor you. Have you got a good friend who could help you face it? I think I’m going to have to face it Friday, they ordered 3 wigs for me so I’m going to have to try them on in order to choose. Luckily I have a friend who’s coming with me to help.

The first thing my wig consultant said to me was that they didn’t have anything as curly as my own hair. So they let me order 2 short curly ones that were as similar to my own hair as we could find and also a straight one too. Bit worried I’ll look like an old lady with the curly ones.
