Hi, yes I’ve been told 10 years of tamoxifen. I’ll be 46 in April. Another girl I spoke to today said she was having 9. I think it’s 5 plus 4 boosters or something. I’d be delighted if mine got changed to 9 but I think maybe they have to spread it out more as I’m getting the collarbone nodes done as well as the breast. If the heartburn is bad you could ask for the tablets, they definitely help. Just one a day, half an hour before breakfast. Apparently my liver levels were slightly elevated but not enough to need a reduced dose. I kinda wish i had got a reduced dose as it was pretty rough on me last time, but I guess I have to trust they know best! Maybe my last one will get reduced. I had that extra week off so I’m sure my levels were higher at the three week mark.
Glad you got on ok too. We can compare notes on side effects this week
Thank you so much! Having spoken to my oncology team I’ll just stay in the UK for now to be sensible as I am very tired and I’m anxious about abemaciclib, but maybe something sunny in the summer holidays. Hang in there, each round is a challenge but you’ve made huge progress, the end will come! X
@pod123 yes we will definitely compare notes. It’s nice to have someone on the same plan to be able to share side effects & give each other advice! Hope you aren’t to bad this time round x
I’ve found having the reduced dose of docetaxel on my 5th cycle has made a real difference. I’ve felt rough for the same number of days and had flu like aches again but am so pleased I haven’t had the horrendous extreme spasms of pain. Another interesting fact is that my very sparse hair has continued growing this time!! Not booking in at the hairdressers any time soon though!
I wish I knew what my radiology and hormone therapy plan was. They seem to do things differently here in Nottingham. I only get my appointment with the clinical oncologist to discuss this after I have seen the medical oncologist again next week.
I also have another surgery to come when my tissue expander is removed and implant put in but don’t see the surgeon until March.
Stay strong everyone, remember each day that passes gets you closer to the end of chemo. Xx
@pink66
I am also under the care of Nottingham city hospital. I was told my plan going forward but I don’t know dates when my radiotherapy starts because I have to be referred back to that department after chemo x
Hey! That’s an amazing coincidence you being treated at the City too!
I wonder if it’s down to my age-I’m 58 and post menopausal that they’ve not told me about which hormone drug I’ll be given and for how long.
My surgeons were Ms Bano and Mr Khout- I had 2 as Mr Khout was demonstrating a particular technique on me! My oncologist is Mr Shafiq. How about you?
@pink66
My oncologist is the same as you mr shafiq & my surgeon was Miss gillani. Yes it might be because you are post menopausal that they are still deciding. When’s your next chemo appointment! Think yours is the 6th the same as mine isn’t it! Mines at 10am. I’ve probably seen you in the Chemo day case & we’ve not even realised maybe x
@ruthb37
Hi yes im a bit ahead of you! I have had 3 rounds of EC & so far had 2 out of 3 Docetaxel. I have my final chemo scheduled for the 6th Feb as long as my bloods are ok . You keep getting them ticked off it will soon come round that you will be having your last Chemo. It’s not something we will miss having that’s for sure! Hope your symptoms start to get better x
@pink66
Ahh that’s amazing that you are so close to being done!! Yes & make sure to upload a pic too!! Yes definitely make sure that bell is working for me too x
How are you feeling today @shelbylou81? I didn’t sleep very well last night. Today is my 7 year olds birthday party so I have to put on some makeup and the wig! I can’t quite remember which day the pains started after my first Docetaxel but I think I’ll take some painkillers before I go, to be on the safe side!
@pod123
I’m feeling very tired today due to not sleeping properly since taking the steroids from Wednesday up until yesterday . I’ve got my daughters cheerleading showcase tomorrow afternoon aswell so I’ll have to do the same as you wig on & make-up on & hope for the best!! Hopefully your pains won’t kick in but it’s always a good idea to take something just incase! Hope the party goes well today x
Have the greatest respect for you shelbylou81 and pod123 coping with excited partying and cheerleading children while going through chemo. You are incredible! Hope you both enjoy the events.
Would definitely take a couple of just incase painkillers beforehand!
@pink66
Ahh Thankyou!! My daughter is 13 at the end of this month she’s been cheerleading since the age of 2 & we are off to Florida in April because she is competing at worlds. I’m very excited. I have 2 boys aswell & they both still live at home but they are 23 & 20 this year so she’s the baby of the family & has us all wrapped round her little finger x
Thanks @pink66 the party went well. It was a newly opened soft play centre, so at least it was as clean as those places can be The kids had a ball and the cocodamol did the trick for me. Pretty wrecked today so I’m lying low. @shelbylou81 wow, Florida in April sounds fantastic! Something to look forward to after all the treatment. We’ve booked a holiday in Croatia in May and I can’t wait
@pod123
Aww glad the party went well. Yes 12 weeks today we will be getting on that plane from
Manchester! So glad you also have a holiday to look forward too I haven’t been to Croatia before! I feel a bit tired & dizzy myself today but hopefully get through the day the best I can x
Fantastic to have a sunshine holiday to look forward to at the end of all these long months of treatments! Once I know when my implant surgery is happening I intend to get something booked. I hope you don’t mind me asking-has the cost of your holiday insurance rocketed post cancer?
I’ve actually not purchased the insurance yet as I’m still searching for quotes. The prices are definitely higher but I think it’s mainly cos I’m still in the middle of chemo and also have radiotherapy to come. I’m considering waiting til I’ve finished radiotherapy before buying insurance, but I’m aware that means I’m not currently covered. There are a few chats on here on the subject of travel insurance if you do a search. It seems some companies are better than others.
@pod123
Thanks for that, I’ll have a look and see what companies have been suggested on here. May be worth just doing cover for a single trip rather than an annual policy.
