Standing outside the dark, dark woods.

Donna, sorry to hear about the seroma. I was very surprised when I heard that some surgeons don’t use drains and even more to hear that yours won’t drain the fluid away! Don’t you just have a teensy weensy suspicion that he might feel differently about it if he had it himself?

My surgeon told me that I probably wouldn’t be in too much pain after my ANC and WLE and that most women just needed a couple of paracetamol. WTF???
Maybe if someone took out all his lymph nodes he might have a different opinion. Lovely guy in all other respects (and very good surgeon, which is rather more important), but typical bloke in that one!!!

I’d get seriously stroppy if I were you - tears might help as well!

Hope you get it sorted quickly.

Hi Donna,

I have my seroma drained after my WLE and it was a massive relief! It didn’t fill up again. I was just told that they don’t like to do it too often because it increases the risk of infection (so they wait a bit to see if it goes down on its own first). If its uncomfortable ask them. They did mine without any argument at all because I commented on it being sore xx

Oh and it didn’t hurt at all because that area was actually quite numb.

I am right with Alto on ringing your BCN and telling her how much it hurts. I was meant to wait 4 weeks minimum for an MRI to check my back and I rang and said how it was worrying me so much and would wreck my holiday if it took that long and they did it in 3 days! Well worth ringing them up and asking to do something. When I commented on my Seroma to my BCN she said come straight in and it was done straight away xx

Definitely - don’t wait for Tuesday Donna.

Thankyou ladies,

i dont want to go to A&E, so i will call them on monday and see if my surgeon is around, if he was to say its all normal and will go away then so be it, the thing that is worring me is the hardness of all the breast area and a small bouncy area towards my underarm, which is the classic sign of seroma, but is the hardness normal too i wonder…

love and hugs

Hi Donna,

My seroma felt hard, at first it felt maybe just like swelling from the op but it was tight. The BCNs are good at spotting seroma. Mine told me straight away what it was and were able to treat it without calling on the surgeon xx

It is possible to get infections too I think so if it gets worse or if you feel feverish at all I would go straight to A&E because you might need antibiotics xx

Just wanted to say hello. Hope Scaco returns soon and enjoys all the lovely things you’ve set up for her. I’ve been on my hols, drinking Chianti in Chianti - it does taste better there, believe me.
I think its something to do with scenery. And a bit of warm weather, which up in Scotland, we’ve been missing.
Good to see you’re all still active as ever. But merkins as fascinators is just a step to far for my imagination!!!

Thanx Ninja re Dyson and frescias, def been neglecting my tent, been way out of it and now the end of chemo is nigh - next weds, last tax and nails still long and strong!!! gonna celebrate, extra red and white cells to give away, flamethrowers galore, fireworks woo hoo!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxShar xx

Donna, your BCN may be able to drain it for you. It may take more than one go, as the fluid from the breast area may then drain into the underarm area. The BCNs had to drain mine several times (needle through the scar) before it went down to something tolerable.

The nerve pain is a bu99er. Besides the pain killers, try cold compresses. Oddly enough, the exercises eventually seemed to give short term relief as well–perhaps the real sensations override the ones that are just in the healing nerves. I think someone on another thread was advised to stroke the whole area very gently with something soft to encourage the return of normal sensations.

Shar, I’m so glad you’re nearly at the end after the rough time you’ve had.

Cheryl

Last tax on Weds, Shar? YAY!

Donna, that sounds awful <very gentle=“” hugs=“”></very>

Hi campers,

Just dipping in whilst waiting for more Glasto coverage on TV - was up far too late last night (hope I didn’t wake anyone as I giddily stumbled back to my tent in a state of total inebriation)

Donna - nerve pain is horrible and I didn’t know what it was - it was THAT pain that drove me to find this website initally - it drove me insane almost, I used a lot of baby wipes (in upward motion of course), aqueous cream (again upward motion) and hot baths where I could actually stand ‘stroking’ my arm, the sensitivity was just unbearable some days, the cooling effect of wipes and cream helped and the more I ‘stroked’ the more de-sensitised the area became, area for me is still a little on the numb side but is much more manageable…

Sheil - you’re holiday sounds idyllic, soooo jealous

Will try to catch up on the older posts over next couple of days - hope everyone else is doing ok and I’ve got some festi strenght cider to donate to SCACO’s return party

Quick update. SCACO has sent word from Stalagluft 10. She is doing well, operation went well, 2 drains already removed and she is morphined-up xx

Great news that SCACO is doing well, hopefully she will be back amongst us very soon.

Glad the op went ok SCACO, hope they don’t keep you in too long xx

Must say she is quiet this evening so either she is having a well deserved snooze or else she is tunnelling under our feet as we speak and will emerge triumphant, back in her tent, flamethrower, drains and all.

Keep on putting up the fairly lights, I’m sure she will be back in her tent and or taking a tipple in the JM soon xx

SCaCO:
Take care in Stalagluft 10.

There is a sharpened spoon under the curtain; the tunnel starts underneath the bed. I’ll add some fairy lights to the tunnel at our end so you can find your way.

Good morning fellow Warriors!

Wow! What a welcome! Not sure if I’d found the right Woods until I heard the harmonious tones of TN wafting through the trees. I have to say it does look pretty, the merkins twinkling in the moonlight were a sight to behold.

My mx is done and I’ve had LD recon at the same time. (a tad sore) so the cancer (who I had named Osama as it clearly wanted to rule the world, even if it meant self destruct) is now either in the bin or being chopped up to see exactly what the bugger was. I just need to get my arm going again and then I will resume flamethrower duties.

Thanks for all of your wishes, they found me in the night and cheered me up. Hope all SEs are small or better still, non-exsistent. Xxxx

WELCOME BACK, SCACO!

Best wishes for a speedy return to flamethrower duty.

Cheryl
