Oh Mary Grace…how lovely…I walk in the woods hoping SCaCo would approve of me and my sometimes annoying creatures…this journey is so hard but the humour here is so totally for me…so raise my glass(large one of course) to all thevwoodies and benchlanders and who may sail to us xx
Hi Caroline, looks like you are settling in nicely in the woods, A ‘tag’ is when a name shows up purple in the text, although it doesnt seem to have any actual function on here. On facebook if you ‘tag’ someone they get a notification message that you have mentioned them.
Are you coming to the fancy dress?
Looks like I’ve been relieved of babysitting duties on Saturday so will just have to drink loads of winter pimms with my Uncle Fester twinnies, toasting to the gathering of the woodies and the Benchlanders (not quite sure which one I am), with an extra special toast to absent friends (SCaCO sounds wonderful) xx
Its done it again.!!! my reply to Scaredy went ABOVE her post !!!
Oh FFS !!! (sorry those with delicate ears)
Scaredy - look down the list on the left of your screen - there is a stream called Glossary, you will find a list of abbreviations there xx
Hi everyone, I’ve not been around as I’ve laid low by an attack of some horrible little infection things in my MX scar tissue. Who would have thought that would happen 9 months after the event. Enough of me.
Although I didn’t know her, what you have done for SCACO is so beautiful it made me cry.
Kitty, I hope you have your posse with you because Pixie is missing them. It’s nice to know she has some new friends too.
Just got the fire going and whilst it’s warming everything up I’m off to the JM (if I can find it) for a very large mulled wine to help keep out the cold. There will be some hot chocolate with toasted marshmallows and whipped cream later and some devil’s food cake too. I’ve put a new flag on the top of my tent. It’s a pink and silver camisole. Should go with the bunches of lavender.
I’m really looking forward to the party. If anyone needs a hand with their costumes I’m pretty handy with a needle and thread.
Sorry to make a fool of myself but please can someone give me the definition of some of the abbreviation that I have seen on the posts.
Kitty and others that want to play boats…my narrowboat and dingies are available. We could chugg out to meet them. The tub still has bunting on board following the Jubilee and Olympics.
Thanks for the explanation nannabarb. I still don’t understand this new site too well…it is such a pity it was changed but nobody expected the problems I suppose.
Now do I look for the every elusive sleepfairy or go and pick a few kiwi fruits? Is my nest in the yew tree still there? It used to be so comfortable during Tax. My well produced superb neuts with the help if Supertrouper and Buggerit and a few jam jars…without the jam I ate that first on the lovely scones in the good old Yurk. Nostalgia is so sweet …It wasn’t so good at the time!!!
SC, you can walkways find the JM by the lights and the sound of laughter. Laughter can scare off the determined of the gremlins. There are also torches lit along the paths by those who have gone before to light the path through the woods into the land of NED on the far side of the woods.
So who’s for a refill? I think I could do with a large white wine and maybe I’ll put something on the jukebox if there’s no live band. Or woodies band Twisted Nipple comes out of retirement (a bit like the Spice girls) for special occasions. We sang for the golden jubilee and were marginally more in tune that’s Macca - although ability to play an instrument or sing in tune was never a requirement for getting into the band.
Maybe Twisted Nipple should do a revival gig, any volunteers?
Xx
Cackles - Can you explain the significance of kiwi fruit to me? I love kiwi & on FEC chemo they helped me poop! Is there something more than that?
Brownies are ready made for tomorrow and they’re blinding (even if I do say so myself!)
I also made some rock cakes but they went wrong so we can chuck them at the alligators!
Xx
Nannb - I’m not thick, honest, but I don’t think I explained my self properly. It’s things like NEDland or the land of NED and others similar to that. Its the ones that aren’t in the glossary I’m getting confused with. I don’t know about anyone else but since I had radiotherapy my brain doesn’t seem to work as it did before. I know there’s a brain in there because I saw it on an MRI. Helen xx
The Land of NED (also known as NEDland) is the place we aspire to reach… NED = No Evidence of Disease which is the best thing we can hear. No doctor will ever say ‘cure’ and, depsite what some people say, they won’t give an ‘all clear’ either. We reach NED and hope to remain there (this language is kind of what was causing some distress on another thread recently). Someone said you can say you are cured when you die of something else at a ripe old age; until then you are NED and live in the Land thereof. Hope that helps but does not distress.
The Land of NED we imagine as a sunlit meadow just beyond the wicket gate out of the woods… it still has a few holes we can fall into, some hills to climb and, alas some paths lead us back to the darkest parts of the woods. The Land of NED is good, it’s where I live and laugh and love… and from where I pop back to see my friends in Benchland and the Woods
Cackles…I have been using this site but I don’t know how to “tag” either…and I’ll make a confession…I don’t know how to use facebook …mind you…I spend so much time in these woods…I couldn’t fit in facebook!!!..I’d be on the internet all day…someone got baked potatoes…ooohhh…pass one over pls…and a large white barperson pls…thank you…yummmy…I’ll just have this then it’s off to my tent…might just catch a sleep fairy after last night’s carry on…night ladies…
Hi SC, sorry we stalk in acronyms o here… Main,y because we can’t be bothered to type it out. You’re right, it is so confusing. NED = No Evidence of Disease which is whsay they say (fingers crossed) when you havfollow up mammos or scans which don’t show any nasties.
We used to always talk about skipping around in the meadows which lie beyond the woods when we finished treatment but since several of us have now had one year and two year clear mammos since our dx (diagnosis), and received letters which say we are NED, we sometimes talk about being in NEDland these days.
Here are a few of the acronyms I can think of offhand and others will add to them if they’re are particular ones you wonder ababout bc = breast cancer
dx = diagnosis
WLE = wide local excision or lumpectomy
mx = mastectomy
anc = removal of nodes under arm
e+ = hormone positive bc, responds to oestrogen
p+= responds to progesterone
her+= responds to herceptin
OH = other half (eg: wife, husband, partner)
in here
JM = jingling merkin our imaginary pub
NE = Noel Edmonds, who we use as a whipping boy since he was to patronising to a woman with bc on deal or no deal
PB = Pierce Brosnan, decorative but as can be seen in Mamma Mia, he can’t sing to he will keep trying
Anyone think of any others
Getting ready for a party is half the fun, isn’t it? The woods are positively humming tonight. I like benchland, but my heart is here in the woods. But, I love messing about with boats, so gliding back and forth between woods and bench is a delight.
I’ve decided to come to the fancy dress as a tree, slightly misshapen and twisted these days, with a wreath of leaves instead of hair, thickening around the middle and with some mossy bark on my legs, chin and head. So fitting for the woods, although I hope Buggerit, Feckit & the pack don’t wee on me! I’ve pushed Paranoia into a box for the evening, and am raising a big tumbler of g&t to SCACO–long may her woods flourish! Long may her trees grow! I’m not even having hot flushes, and I think the JM’s warm tonight must be all those giant logs on the fire.
Somebody said that Kiwi helped bring the sleep fairies in, but there may be other reasons that I’ve missed.
Scaredy Cat–love the new flag! And thanks for reminding us of the candles again, RevCat, I’m glad you’re here for when we need that extra ladle of loving spirit, not to mention mountain climbing tips.
I think I’m off to catch a sleep fairy and make for a nest.
Poor scardy cat …somewhere in the Dark Wood thread is an explanation of all the “silly” names and abbreviations…if I don’t sleep tonight I will look them up for you. We know you are not thick …you joined this thread …and we tolerate only people with an ability to laugh in the face of adversary, spell badly and contribute to the fun. BORING is not done in the wood. No woodworm allowed. It is not good for the tree growth! As it is we are short of drills, augurs and bradals. We have thrown them all at the gremlins. Most brains are out of gear during treatment but it might recover. Researchers deny “chemobrain” but we all have the odd problem. Perhaps they chose the wrong cohort to study.
Well done Mary Grace and Quail -you saved me a hunt through the archives. I spend so long typing most of what I rabbit about is out of date.
Jellytot Yes the kiwi helps sleep REPUTEDLY…mine seem to cause other effects which shall be shrouded in the mist off the lagoon!!! Perhaps Peter Rabbit’s lettuce will cause us to be soperific rather than loose!!!
Thanks everyone. It was the acronyms in here that I was getting confused about. One more (silly) question. What name do you give to the world of work where, as being self-employed, I have to appear now and then.
Anyway, I’m off to try and catch a sleep fairy. Sweet dreams to everyone. Helen xx
Wonderful, as the sleep fairies have been avoiding me I’ll get me some kiwis in, do they grow anywhere in the woods?
My doggy Fagin has his costume ready for tomorrow now too, he’s coming as Fluffy (Hagrid’s three-headed dog from Harry Potter!)
SC, the world of work is usually in NEDland, as it is our lives as they were before any of the crap descended on us
Scaredy Cat I call that place a Bloomin Nuisance quite a lot of the time, the rest of the time it’s Sanity Saver. However, thanks to my shoe compulsion, it’s a place I have to get back to pdq…
I could go to the party as Imelda Marcos!
Morning xxx
Chiili all made plus toffee apples and really sticky gooey treacle toffee so we can give a piece to PB if he appears later and tries to sing.
Scaredy…Yep Posse all here, think I saw Pixie off on the hunt with Maddie-Mog earlier. They have decided not to come to the party but to be on PB and NE watch and will scratch them and scare them off whilst we enjoy ourselves. Will also bring a tub of apples so we can have a go at apple-bobbing…least I won’t have any problems drying hair lololol and again good deterrant for PB.
See you all later xxx
