Starting chemo in September

Afternoon everyone,

Seem to have perked up a bit in the last couple of days and feel a bit more like my normal self (although i’d really prefer not to be on this journey but hey ho).

Had a close friend and her daughter over for a visit this morning which was lovely, especially as her daughter brought her 5 month old baby with her and he was full of smiles and giggles. She gave me a lovely manicure too which was a treat - i now have lovely bright pink nails

Nurse came to do bloods this afternoon which was ok. Operation scars are feeling stiff and sore after chemo and my eyes feel dry and tired which i’m spraying with dry mist(yet more niggles), but overall not feeling too bad.

Sozza - i hope the sickness meds sort you out, as its a horrible feeling, as is the woozy head and indigestion. I was lucky enough to be given Emend for sickness but even then still felt slightly nauseous.

Hope everyone else is keeping ok

Evening all,

I really hope that all who were not feeling well are feeling a bit better now and sleeping properly.

Everyone is looking really good with their shaved heads. The hair that I have left is still growing so i think I might need a reshave too! I am very disappointed that the only hair I seem to be losing is on my head, why can’t I lose it from my legs? Is it just me??!!

I am going to try to have a normal weekend before FEC 3 on Wednesday. Starting with tonight I am going out for a curry, then got a party on Saturday night, then probably sleep all day Sunday to catch up!!! Is anyone else doing anything nice this weekend?

Kate xx

Kate - my leg hairs were the last to fall out…and the first to grow back!! AN-NOY-YING!

Fairly groggy hi from me.

Second EC today, the good bit is that the portocath worked and was great. Bad bit is that I now feel rubbish.

Hope you get your portocath fitted soon Sandi, they are great when they work and mine was the first they had had fail.

May everyone have as good a weekend as they can.

Hi Girls
Well the new anti sickness meds worked but made me aggitated so back to hosp. Now pleased to say that apart from feeling a bit light headed , I am fine.
Spoke to oncologist and she wants me to stay in next time so that they can get the meds right so I don’t suffer. They are so lovely in the hospital.
Lucky Lil the no of sessions you have I think depends on your circumstances. I am having 6 but my lump was tiny and is gone due to the mastectomy, also no spread to noads. The chemo is merely a precaution.
I cannot wait until this is all over .
Lots of love to you all.

Hi Everybody
Hope you are all feeling OK.
Jay…….Hey….I lived in Hove Actually as well. Sackville Rd. Had a huge old 4 storey house there that took me about 3 years to renovate. Loved it!
Sandipants……I DON’T BELIEVE IT !!! I owned 2 Cool Runnings bars in Cape Town, and had a small share in one in Bloemfontein. I sold them all up about 7 years ago to move to Mozambique. Who is your friend…. I MUST know him, although I never really had anything to do with the Joburg branches. Is it one of the Sadie brothers, Wayne or Grant??? What an amazing coincidence!!
Hey Fi and Sue……Good on ya!!! Looks great on you Fi, and sure it does on you too Sue! And doesn’t it just feel FANTASTIC??? I love the prickly feel, and my OH says I look years younger…although being a lawyer, he is a wonderful liar !!
Hi Ali…great that you feeling a bit better. I also had mates visiting, and they all wore matching head scarves and bought me one too. Felt hugely cheered up.
Kate and Sandytoes….also still have the leghairs. Sods law, isn’t it! The pubes have started falling out though.
Sozza….not been the easiest No 1 for you, but glad its over. At least we can all scratch another session off the list. BUT I totally agree, I can think of a lot more fun things to do than have Chemo!
SouthernLucy….Great about the portocath. Hope you feel loads better soon

Well have a great Saturday night and Sunday
Loadsa hugs to everyone

Hi Girls,

I hope you are all well. I’m nursing a very runny nose at the moment - I’m not sure if it’s a cold or due to me losing nasal hair! I had my flu jab this morning (not the cause of the runny nose!) the GPs were very kind and let my OH have one too as they said he was my carer!

Fi - great photo, you look fab, it nice to see your face rather than your foot!!

Jay - I hope that your headaches/indigestion have got better?

Sozza - Sorry to hear about your first session. I really feel for you, I think I would take them up of the offer of staying overnight so the hospital can look after you.

Ginge - I hope you are feeling better soon. Yes, I know exactly where you are coming from with how you feel!

Lil - I’ve been doing a lot of reading threads rather than writing over the past couple of days. I noticed you put you were 53 - I nearly fell off my chair when I read that. I honestly thought you were in your 30’s maximum!! You look fantastic!!

Julia - I hope you are feeling better soon too.

Kate - I hope you are having a great weekend!

Ali - good news that you have perked up. Long may it last!

Sue - congratulations on biting the bullet. (Mine’s only a finger cut but I think I will be glad when it’s all one length - it seems to have a mind of it’s own at the moment!)

Sandipantsshell - I hope that FEC 2 went well - please tell me it was similar to FEC1 and not too bad!!

Has anyone heard from Stargazerlily lately? I do hope that she is doing ok - the last I read she had bad mouth ulcers. SGL if you are there - I’m sending you a big hug ((((xxx))))

Before I go, I read on the October thread that a lady recommended drinking a glass of Guinness each week to keep the blood counts up …I had a medicinal glass last night and enjoyed it - lets hope it works!!

Have a great night everyone & apologies to anyone I’ve missed!

good evening all
I have had a good couple of days but very very nervous about having fec2 on Tuesday.

Jay how are you?

Sozza and Ginge hope you are both feeling better

here’s hoping you are all having a good weekend.

I dont know if anybody knows is it only the tac that affects your nails or can fec also affect them?

I am hopeless at remebering everybody but sending hugs to everyonexxx
Sue

Hi Sue

From what I can remember it’s more TAC than FEC (I’m having all FEC and my nurse said I could end up with ridges etc but didn’t recommend the gel varnish etc).

Good luck on Tuesday!

Axx

Hi Girls, I still have leg hair too and my head fuzz is growing . Felt really tired today and for the first time my temperature was 37.1 been in the 36’s up till now. I have the sniffles Annie and had them last time so maybe it is yet another symptom rather than a cold.
Still not worn the wig as I feel like a’woman in a wig!!’ how daft is that. I am quite comfortable in a scarf and am getting quite good at tying them.
Sorry to here you have been feeling yuck sozza and Ginge hope the rest of the weekend is better.
With regard to nails I am still having gels and when I had the done last time my nails wre quite strong and no ridges.
Hugs to everyone

Evening September Ladies…

I am now on antibiotics as I have an infection in my picc line!..
God knows how I never go near it!..
I dont know if you can still have chemo with an infection, am due 2nd FEC on Tuesday, I guess I will find out Monday…
One thing after another, gets on my nerves!..

Kate, hope you are having fun at the party…

Lil, you lived about 10 minutes from my house, do you think you will ever come back to England?..

Ginge, sorry to hear you arent feeling to well. hopefully a better day for you tomorrow, enjoy the x factor…

Annie, how on earth do you remember everyones names! I do try but always leave some out, Indigestion still the same, see what the consultant says on Monday, I’m hoping the head pain goes when I get my hair shaved…

Sozza, hope you are now feeling better…

Fi, Glad you are getting used to the scarves, I threw mine back in the cupboard earlier, patience is not my strongest point at the moment!!..

SGL, As Annie says hope you are ok, and have got rid of those horrible mouth ulcers…

Have a good evening everyone…

Love Jay X

Hi my Lovelies
Well had my fec on tues, felt crap for 4 days and felt fine yesterday .
Mind you I think that I’m getting a bit of a sore throat and feel a bit headachey.
I’m actually fed up of sitting around and went for a nice walk yesterday.
The doctots did say that the chemo should only stay in your body for 3 days so flush it through with plenty of water based fluids.
Oh by the way I have just celebrated my 44th birthday but am currently feeling 64!
Hope that you all have a lovely sunday.
Lots of love

Morning everyone

Hope everyone is doing ok today and not feeling too bad. Have actually been enjoying this weekend and feeling like my normal self. Went out shopping yesterday afternoon and got a couple of scarves. Also tried on a few hats but I’ve never been a hat person, and my friends face said it all. Like everyone else been enjoying watching strictly and the x factor ( Saturday night guilty pleasures). Looking back I think it must have been the steroid drop that made me so morose earlier as other than that SEs have been manageable.

Ginge - I hope you’re starting to feel better now

SGL - I hope your ulcers are getting better. Last night my throat felt like it had a lump in it and was a bit sore. Dissolved a teaspoon of Manuka honey in warm water and drank it, and this morning it seems to have gone. Only trouble is the expense of it, but if it helps then it’s worth it.

Annie/Lil - have to agree with what Annie says Lil u look great. Will get a pic sorted out but probably of the old me at the moment.

Jay - hope your infection gets sorted out as well as the indigestion. Mine has finally gone but will still mention it to the onc.

Sozza - good to hear you’re feeling better

Hugs to all
Ali xx

Jay - so sorry to hear about the infection in your picc line. I really hope it doesn’t stop you from having your next dose next week. If it does, try not to worry and trust the medics! When they fitted the line, did they tell you to put a hot water bottle above the line on your upper arm, 4 times a day? I do this when my arm is aching and it does help. When I was worrid about my line last week I went to the hospital and they prescribed me Ibuleve gel for the swelling and that’s worked, thank goodness. Let us know how you get on.

Sue - like me you’re back in next Tuesday. Let’s hope it goes well for us.

It definately is a small world as some of you are proving! Maybe next June, WHEN I win the lottery I’ll pay for us all to meet up somewhere hot and have a great holiday - no wigs or scarves allowed though!

Sandi- buying a new house!!! I know what you mean though, when I’m feeling ok I want to crack on with all the plans I’ve got about our house but then I think about having the builders in and I think no…

Hope everyone has an ok week ahead.

By the way I’m definately NOT curly anymore. I had it shaved yesterday and apparently I’ve got a very cute shaped small head! I’m sat here with a wonderful hippy scarf deftly tied around my head, more make up than I ever wear and huge big earings!I went out in the wig yesterday and this morning and I was convinced everyone was starting at me…maybe it was the over-sized earings and the caked-on make-up!!!he he

I’ve been a little off colour the past few days so taking it easy today.

Hope everyone is keeping well

Axx

Just like to add my best wishes to Sue, Jay and Curly having their next dose tomorrow. Hope all goes well with minimum SEs.

Annie - hope you’re feeling a bit better soon. Is it related to the flu jab?

Ali x

Hello Girls…
Thankyou for your good luck wishes…
I too am dreading tomorrow, just dont want to feel so ill again for so many days…
Looks like I am going ahead unless I hear different about the bloods…
The consultant is getting them to put something in the iv to try and help with the indigestion…
Got to carry on with the antibiotics, but havent got a temperature…

Annie, I hope you feel better soon…

Good luck for tomorrow Curly and Sue…

Hope everyone else is doing ok…

Jay X

Hi All,

Just to echo everyone else, good luck for tomorrow to Sue, Jay and Curly. If it helps, me FEC 2 was much easier than the first one. Make sure you tell the onc about all of your SEs and they will try to change your meds to help reduce them this time round.

I am off your round 3 on Wednesday - the last of my FEC. Fingers crossed I will feel as good as I have done after FEC 2.

I hope everyone else is ok and anyone feeling not so great improves quickly.

Kate xx
