Circus skills guy managed to hit himself in the eye with a spinning diablo. I had to administer first aid, in the form of an ice pack. I think he was distracted by my spangly attire - or maybe my prowess with the juggling bean bags??!
Afternoon tea after school today, a farewell to 3 teachers (we only have 6 classes!) who are leaving. Y6 Leavers’ Evening tomorrow, then we finish at 1 on Friday and will head to the pub for a final drink. It will be a completely different school in September. Again. But will it be any better? We’ll wait and see! Too exhausted to be able to be optimistic at the moment!
No rain here…yet… although the Met Office is still issuing weather warnings, and it is cloudier today.
My first symptoms were sickness, KTC. I thought I kept getting a stomach bug. But the (sorry folks, don’t read whilst eating - graphic details coming) vomit was almost pure bile. I’d feel that “am I hungry or do I feel sick” feeling most of the time. However, these aren’t classic gallstone symptoms because it took the “because of your history” scans to find them. Later, I also had pains in the chest - right in the middle under my bra strap - sometimes incredibly severe. This is the more classic gallstone symptoms. If you suspect you have one, cut your fat intake right down and see if you feel better. Eat small meals at more regular intervals. Or go to your doc and he’ll probably recommend scans “due to your history”!!
Afternoon tea was great. Sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted a cream, mini trifles, mini cheesecakes, chocolate slices, macarons, Choux pastry swans!! It’s a good job I no longer have the gallstones, or I’d be in real trouble after that lot!! I brought home 3 boxes of leftover cakes which we will have at the staff buffet tomorrow lunchtime along with food everyone is bringing in: I just made a rice salad as my contribution.
Welcome back Katy, hope the landline issue is resolved soon.
Apparently, according to Daughter, who was awake, there was a wonderful lightning storm last night about 1 am. I missed it as I was fast asleep. No rain though! Bit of drizzle this morning.
Leavers service today, our four year 6’s going on to secondary school. Graduation ceremony tomorrow for a pre-schooler going up to Reception. What? Really? A graduation ceremony for a four year old?
Many parts of the school covered in all the end of term things they are doing, can’t get at it — can’t clean it! No more glitter thank goodness.
Just one more day of usual cleaning then whoo hoo different things to do, no more boring routine!
Wow JCJ, your afternoon tea sounds wonderful. Choux pastry swans, I want one :smileyhappy: Glad you managed to bag the leftovers. I may sneak in to your staff luncheon, don’t be surprised if you see me there
Oh dear me. I’m sooooo tired. Just got back from Leavers’ Evening. My face hurts from all the enforced smiling.
Didn’t sleep well last night: stomach objected to the afternoon tea pig out! Buffet lunch today and then snacking on leftover pizza and sausages and hot chocolate fudge cake with ice cream this evening. Suspect I’ll be hitting the Rennies again tonight! :(
Just 4 more hours of work left. We finish at 1pm. I’ve got so much to do. No idea how I’ll fit it all in.
Took swimming things with me in case I felt like going, but I was so tired I thought I might drown! So home for a mugatea then I must wash my hair and crash into bed. Only one more get up!
Today has been a good day. Went to town today, it’s market day here and there are two stalls that sell things that I want. So I got them and then nipped into charity shop and found four books for £2. 50p a book, that’s cheap.
Went to school and HT had left me a message to just empty the bins and clean the toilets and forget the rest as they would be making more mess tomorrow! That was nearly a day off! Home so early it put me out of my routine. I did, however get rid of the worst of the mess, didn’t hoover but pushed a broom around. Found I couldn’t actually leave it as it was.
Hope the Rennies work JCJ, just 4 hours to get through and then your holidays… first with daughter and then MMU5, concentrate on the good things and that you will be doing less next term. Remember the word NO and use it!
Sitting munching my caramel slice and slurping a muggatea, thought I’ll have a quick look to see what’s happening in Benchland…
Saw your post JCJ and am now guffawing with crazy laughter :smileyvery-happy:, you did at least enjoy your feasts?? And am loving the forced smiley face hahaha!!
Just keep thinking you will be a part time person soon and not have to bother with all the politics.
Great day indeed FF, plenty for you to read now:smileyhappy:!
Went for a late lunch today to that cheap Italians, price is steadily rising, had melon, spag bol and ice cream, it’s really lovely, yummy yum.
Have both GC for a sleepover tomorrow night, ED is off to a wedding, so that should be fun, bought some drawing stuff for GD and we have glue and some craft things, GS has some new cars to play with, small pocket money toys. With my craft skills we should be able to make something??? or NOT???
Mum is kinda getting the hang of that tv above the clouds, woo hoo!!
Thank you for telling me about early symptoms JCJ, not the same, have felt better today so will wait and see if it was just another BUG?? xx
It’s over. At last. But I don’t feel the WeeeHooo! I expected. Just exhausted. And numb. Been an emotional day with half the teachers leaving.
September, won’t be less hours for me, but, supposedly, no routine teaching commitment. But I’ve not heard any more about that - so I have absolutely no idea what will be happening. Nobody has been told anything about who will be covering PPA next year. I have a horrible feeling I’ll still be expected to cover the class I’m working in (and it will be a difficult one!) fairly regularly, but with less pay. I wonder if I’ll still be working there this time next year?! 6 weeks rest then I’ll “suck it and see” and leave if things don’t improve.
Soooo glad I shan’t have to set the alarm for the next few weeks!! ?
Aah I thought you were going part time:smileyembarrassed:, if you are going to earn less they can’t expect you to do the same as you did before? Or can they?? Don’t stand for any nonsense when you go back.
And it is a woo hoo moment, no thinking about any of it until the day you return:smileyhappy:!!
Oh my it’s been pouring nearly all day, believe it or not when I went over to ED’s with GC it stopped, chatted blah blah then went into supermarket, rain started again, just a little, reached the front door and it was torrential, so for once I missed being drenched, another woo hoo moment:smileyhappy:!!
Did a bit of hoovering and some washing, feet up for the rest of the evening, takeaway ordered, spoiling myself indeed,
After that onto the “tired” bench, bed early methinks xx
Just got back (yes, I am allowed out this late) from a quiz night at Son’s Village Hall in aid of restoration of the village Church. Bring your own booze, which will explain why I’ve already had to correct 4 typos in one sentence :smileyembarrassed: Son, DIL, Daughter, SIL, Daughter’s BFF and me. We were doing all right until we got to the Science and Nature round which was a disaster for us. Still we came third out of nine teams so not too bad.
Went into town earlier looking for a lightweight summer showerproof jacket. Went in the two clothes shops we have, didn’t really like anything they had and certainly wasn’t going to pay upwards of £40 for them. Went into charity shop on the offchance…found one for £5… that’ll do nicely. Downside is it’s black so not really summery (but slimming!) but I’ll cheer it up with a bit of colour. Also wanted a handbag but no luck there, will have to got into big city I think.
Bought the latest Peter Robinson book in local supermarket today so that’s on my agenda for tomorrow. Reading bench here I come.
Spent most of the day on the reading bench. Got Trevor Noah’s book for 99p for electronic reading devise (think firelighters) from that big river online shop. It is brilliant. Funny, wise and extremely thought provoking. Would recommend it at full price!
You mentioned Peter Robinson, FF, so I had a look in “firelighters” store and found 2 of his books for 99p and 98p respectively. Sold!
Now got 22 books ready to read all in one handy place!
Nature & Science? That’s my strength - or should be! - are you able to text a friend?
Chucked it down most of yesterday ('thoughI did get 3 loads of washing dry) and all night, but better now.
Guest bed is covered in camping c**p. Got it all out of the cupboard to see what I needed to buy and to check YD’s sleeping bag was there. 2 days to get it packed properly so it can just stay there while I go back to the reading bench! Fell asleep at 10 last night whilst reading!! Told you I was tired!!
I will be bringing the raincoat and an umbrella (as always) to MU5 but I am sure the weather will be perfectly lovely. Think positive :smileyhappy:
Science and nature didn’t faze us when it was announced, between the six of us we thought we had it reasonably sorted as we do ok at that subject when playing Trivial Pursuit. The questions however … really obscure and knowledge of Latin needed. My Latin begins and ends with “illigitimi non carborundum”. However we did better at the Sport round that we thought we would.
Peter Robinson… Alan Banks series…good cops and robbers series. I’ve got all of them. 22 books waiting to be read? I thought I was doing well with seven, oh now eight, bought one today. Still haven’t completetely fathomed new reading device, can’t seem to find the cheap books.
Sat on the reading bench nearly all day, just moved off it in time to get a few necessary items from supermarket before they shut at four. Now watching recorded tv. Having a day off school tomorrow, staff in, so they will make a mess taking down displays etc… So I’ll go in Tues am and start the clean up.
Good luck tomorrow, Ali. Another one joins us at 5 years on!! It will be interesting to see if you get advised to stay on HT for another 5.It seems to be regional?
You are the reader, FF. That’s why I have 22 books still to read!! You’d have read half of them in one weekend!
I have the “firelighters” app on my tablet and I regularly get invitations to buy discounted books. Got my first books free as they were all classics. Try searching free books?
The Peter Robinson books I got were both DCI Banks ones - most of them are over a fiver tho’ so I only bought those two.
Hellooo Jane! Lovely to see you back in Benchland! We’ll raise a cake to you at MMU5.
Not fireFighters but fireLighters as in kindl(ing)! Our usual cryptic game of “Don’t name the company” I’ll keep a lookout for Estelle Ryan books. Thanks for the tip.
Hello Jane, lovely you have popped in, we will be thinking of you at MMU5, will be wearing my tiara on the train down:smileyhappy:!!
Am also reading, Mark Billingham, enjoy pyschological thrillers…
Have read a few of Peter Robinsons books but it has been ages.
Went into town to buy a couple of things and pick up prescription, chemist was closed a holiday?? So will have to do without tabs until Thurs, grrrrrrrrrrrr.
Also purchased another “it” my gosh, had to venture into 3 shops before I could just buy “it” without all the accessories, what a carry on??? Guy was ever so helpful and I like it better than the original.
Sooooooooooo hot here today after a totally miserable weekend, prawns for tea tonight, then strawberries and cream, yum yum:smileyhappy: xx
Hiya Jane, so lovely to *see* you. Been googling Estelle Ryan, thank you for another author to try. We will raise our cups of tea to all others
Ali - mixed feelings, sorry you’re not signed off but glad you still have the drugs and a safety net! I feel a little strange without mine althought they said contact them any time I was worried.
Really, really glad that you have bought another “it” Katy and that you like it better. If you get the right “it” it is doable.
I’ve been on the reading bench all day, only moved off it to feed myself, bought what I thought was a trilogy from local charity shop, turns out there’s a fourth book, found it on Mr Futon site so awaiting it impatiently, maybe tomorrow or Weds. depends on post.
Off to school tomorrow, see what mess teachers have managed to make today. Lots… I expect!
Another lazy day, I was intending to go to school but idleness overtook me and a good book! Must go tomorrow, I WILL go tomorrow. Must do work before holiday. I need to say that as a mantra and get it done.
Daughter popped in for a muggatea with two GD’s, a situation ensued and 2yr old GD had to sit on the naughty step. I was almost on her side, elder sister had tormented her but she must learn not to hit people. I kept well out of it and let Daughter deal, which she did with her usual efficiency.
