Car packed and ready to go - hopefully I’ve left enough room for the last minute food and flask bags and YD’s suitcase. Picking her up at station tomorrow (actually today, as it’s past midnight!) at 11am. Banana biscuits and sultana tea bread baked and packed - 2nd of latter in freezer ready for Durham holiday.
The sun actually came out after I packed the car and I felt much more motivated to go … Until I looked at the met office forecast for Craven Arms!! Thunderstorms and blustery showers for next 2 days. Marvelous! :(. Ah well, I suppose we used up all our good weather luck at the wedding?
OH off to spend a few days exploring Oxford. He leaves from one train station at about the same time as we’ll be meeting at another one - in the opposite direction from our house!! Then I’ve got about an hour and 3/4 drive - traffic permitting. I have a large chicken potato salad made for our picnic en route.
PUT THAT BOOK DOWN AND GO TO WORK, FF!! Seriously, I hope it’s not too messy and you can get the job done quickly.
Woo hoo JCJ, hurrah for the holidays:smileyhappy:!!
Have a lovely time, you and your girl, laughing, chatting, eating etc, and if it rains you are still away.
Torrential here.
FF, naughty GD haha, GS has been warned too…
Ali, “it” is a replacement for something I shouldn’t do, but do, do!!
Have GS shortly as ED is off to college, she shouldn’t be long and then have visitors later, am actually sitting on the “CBA” bench and will not be leaving it until the last moment.
Had landline and part broadband properly fixed yesterday woo hoo, took all of 5 mins, man was saying that their call out fee is £129, WHAT??? He said his last call was to a man who could not have incoming calls, he checked lines etc and was there for a while, ended up it was the phone that wasn’t working properly, he will be now charged for everything, prob around £200, that’s a shocker.
Muggatea beside me, will sit contemplating moving soon…xx
Thank you for shouting at me JCJ, it worked, I’ve been to school. It’s not messy, looks perfectly ok, but I have to spend three weeks getting into corners, moving cabinets to get under and behind them and washing down paintwork. A really good thorough clean. Sorted half of pre-school today and moved everything over to do the other half tomorrow. Time was they used to empty the rooms so I could do it easily, now everything is left in place so I have to shift it. :smileysad: Takes longer, less gets done, hey ho.
Have a lovely holiday with your Daughter, even if it rains you can enjoy the time together. And the cake and biscuits sound lovely.
Glad you have your phone and broadband properly fixed Katy. Hope it was their fault and that you won’t be charged. £129? That’s daylight robbery!
Try again. Last post disappeared. No phone signal here and wifi playing up.
YD put a pedometer app on her phone today and it’s telling us we’ve walked more than 9 miles today including a lovely (but UP and down) long walk and numerous trips up and down the field to the loos, water tap and washing up place.
Now supping wine and waiting for the campsite owner to bring a chiminea and some fuel over so we can have a fire. It was COLD last night! !
I will have three weeks holiday, and only just now sat down with the school calendar and worked out that that I have to do 28 hours work over the other three. (Thought it was 30, so pleased to find it’s 28). In flexitime, if I worked two 10 hour days and then one eight, I could have the rest of the holiday off but obviously I’m not going to do that. My time is my own as long as I get the 28 hours done. Sometimes I go in on a weekend days don’t matter. If I feel like working then I will :smileyhappy:
Glad you didn’t have to pay.
Rained here on and off today, went to Library and had to wait until the shower had passed as was only wearing a t-shirt. No, I wasn’t ONLY wearing a t-shirt! :smileytongue: I had jeans on and shoes! But lovely sunshine when I left home, within 15 mins dark clouds and pouring rain. Got home just a bit damp and it’s been sunshine and showers since.
Hope you are enjoying your holiday JCJ and that the weather is being kind to you. NINE miles? I’m tired just thinking about that! Hope tonight is warmer.
Hahaha what are you like??? Would also feel squiffy if I walked NINE miles, hahaha:smileyhappy:!
Had a confused moment, see previous??
Oh FF that’s soooooooo good you can please yourself, makes the days easier…
Am on the “grrrrrrrrrrrr not again” bench, have another BUG…can’t believe it? Who am I??? the person that every rotten bug descends on with glee, feeling sick and headaches, so p***** off with it all xx
Sorry you are feeling bad Katy, hope it passes quickly. Daughter also has a bug, seemed to go away but comes back when she eats. She’s being very careful what she eats/drinks but is in her bathroom more often than usual. This had led to her desire to repaint and change the colour scheme in there. Once she feels better I’m sure there will be changes afoot.
Haven’t been to school today, a book arrived from Mr Futon and that just needed to be read. I have every intention of going in tomorrow but that could change :smileyhappy: ! Who knows?
Weather is pretty awful here rain, wind and decidedly chilly. I’ve just done the washing and I’m wondering how I’m going to get it dry. I’m now regretting I just bought a washing machine when the previous washer/dryer died.
Hope the weather is better where you are JCJ. Camping here wouldn’t be much fun.
Camping here isn’t much fun today. Rain on and off ALL day. Chilly.
We went to Ludlow and had a wander round. Picnic lunch in car (which we wished we hadn’t got because we’d just passed a shop selling the most delicious looking - and smelling - pork and stuffing rolls!) We managed a short walk along the river without getting too wet and had tea & cake in the (covered) riverside patio of a cafe, just as it started to rain really hard. Dash back to car when the rain eased slightly.
Now we’re in a warm, dry pub having eaten a yummy meal (steak & chips for me and steak & ale stew for YD) followed by coffee so we can stay dry for longer!! Free wifi so we’re keeping entertained on our phones!
Getting a bit too warm now. It’ll be a shock to the system to go back to the cold wet field.
Forecast better for tomorrow. Fingers crossed! My knee is really painful - hopefully a temporary reaction to yesterday’s walk. It’s okay when I’m sitting, just a little thingy when driving but agony when I walk more than about 10 yards. Taking the ibuprofen and hoping!
Hope your daughter is feeling better too FF, so many BUGS, grrrrrrrrrrr!
How is your knee today JCJ?
I remember when we first started chatting you saying the weather was always awful when you were away…
ED’s OH has hurt his foot and had to go to hospital, not broken just swollen has to keep elevated for a week, oh dear, daughter is saying it’s a case of man pain similar to man flu hahaha!!
YD home safe and sound, she has a golden tan this time, she is usually very, very dark, so she’s a bit perturbed by that.
Been quiet today, bought a few books I fancied, one is a tv series that has not long finished, really liked it, so book should give more details and another couple of thrillers, specifically for long train journey to MMU5.
Broadchurch? Glad you are feeling better Katy, so is Daughter, she called in today with SIL and youngest GD. They now feel comfortable enought to leave their older one home alone for short periods. She is 12 now, quite sensible and also has the dog with her and the dog is good at protection!
Hope your knee is better today JCJ. I didn’t think twice about your walk along the river until you mentioned it again. If you do have any walks along the river you will have to talk about them at our cream tea!
Not a lot going on down here, rain, more rain. More rain tomorrow, may end up at Daughter’s using her tumble drier. Babysitting youngest GD tomorrow for a couple of hours. Asked Daughter to bring a DVD so I may end up watching Tangled or Frozen. Daughter does not believe in the electronic babysitter and her time with TV/DVD is limited, so that will be a treat for her (and make life a little easier for me!).
Knee still playing up. No rain for most of day. Went for a short walk up on Long Mynd - parked nearly at the top so I didn’t have to do too much walking. Had to keep my leg straight then I could walk without pain, if very slowly. YD a bit disappointed because we did the same walk last year but the clouds covered the hilltop then so the view was much better today and we didn’t get wet this time.
She perked up when we saw what was obviously a wedding party gathering in one of the mountain (ok, hill) car parks. Men in kilts ladies in wedding outfits but sensible shoes. They all walked the couple of hundred yards up to a large grassy area around the trig point. What an amazing place for a wedding! But what a nerve to risk the weather! ! If it had been yesterday. … or this evening! Then they all got back in their cars and drove off in convoy - presumably to some indoor venue somewhere.
We lit the chiminea again tonight and had our simple camp meal by it and then sat under umbrellas when it started to rain. 3 hours later, when it started to rain harder, we gave up and came to bed. Forecast to rain for most of the night. Will we be packing a soggy tent tomorrow?
Aaaah it’s always hard to say goodbye JCJ:smileysad:!
Where are you off to now??
Did you watch Frozen FF?
GS loves Masha and the Bear, am not to fond of cartoons but I do like this one, hahaha.
Have GD just now her Mum asked me to do a hair style for a wedding so had a practice this morning, it’s lovely:smileyhappy:, will just have to make sure it’s a little straighter (french plait) it’s coming from bottom of hairline then up to almost top of head tied and finished with a messy bun on top.
My ears are ringing though, miss non stop chat…
No it was Big Little Lies FF, really enjoyed it xx
No, didn’t watch Frozen, Daughter brought over Peter Rabbit DVD which GD loves but it didn’t hold her attention at all. So it was down to Nana to entertain her. She arrived starving but with a packed lunch so that took up the first 20 minutes and then we made a family of snakes out of my pegs and sent them on an adventure to rescue the dolly from the evil radiator that had captured her. Then there was colour sorting, it’s amazing what you can do with clothes pegs.
Tried to teach her to say that Mum and Dad were “up the pub” (naughty Nana!) but that didn’t work, although Daughter and SIL found it funny :smileyhappy: They only ever go to a pub for a meal. She was only with me for about two and a half hours but managed to present me with a dirty nappy and happily agreed with me when I said I wasn’t as good at changing her as Mummy!
Today I’ve been to school and managed to get quite a lot done, I accomplish more when I’m in the mood… than when I just go to work.
Weather good, so I have finally got the washing dry, didn’t have to resort to Daughter’s tumble drier.
We’ll, I finally got the tent away dry yesterday. It was virtually dry by the time I’d finished putting it up in the garden. “I’ll just have the rest of my breakfast and a mug of coffee, then I’ll pack it away.” Then the heavens opened! Grrrr! Back to square one! Several more showers later, the sun came out and I managed to get it dry.
It’s been showery on and off all day today. Keep trying to get some jobs done in the garden but it rains, so I start something else, and it stops - until I’ve finished that job and am about to go outside. Infuriating!!
I did get all the ironing done, this morning, though, including OH’s (he usually does his own) Done a supermarket shop ready for our holiday. Couldn’t have a hot meal in the cafe because one of the staff had cut her thumb badly and had to be taken to hospital so they were short staffed. Quiche salad and chips then!
Smear test booked for tomorrow Nearly gave it the **** it stamp when the “invitation” came, but decided I couldn’t tempt fate! But I am glad I waited until after we finished school because I’d hate to have to go after a day at work!!
We’re going to a place called Hamsterley, about 8 miles from Durham. Got a lovely looking cottage booked for 2 weeks. Not camping after last year’s dramas!!
Same here, poured all morning cleared up in afternoon, went into town, bought a new bra and other odds and ends, then was drenched on my way home grrrrrrrrrr. Had to strip as soon as I arrived home even underwear was soaking.
Today we had a reasonable morning/afternoon, then it started again, torrential, all ok this time as wasn’t going anywhere, woo hoo. So miserable.
Tried on new bra today and realised I had bought wrong size:smileyfrustrated:, but turned out fine as it fits well, old one is useless now as Lynn garment pulls strap down and creates lumpy bits, see how I get on with new one…
Glad you managed to dry tent JCJ, have a lovely, wonderful holiday:smileyhappy:. When are you back? Do you have quiet time before MMU5?
FF, naughty Nana, indeed, good you have school organised.
Had a busy morning, then just chilled, finished book, fell asleep!! Good day hahaha xx
