Stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND) (Part 1)

Donned skirt and went to docs for the dreaded smear test. Urgh. Should only have to do it once more though as it’s 5-yearly now until I’m 64 (7 years away). If that isn’t tempting fate?!!

Should get a letter within 3 weeks. That’ll be nice to come back from holiday to?? :frowning:

Made a lasagne for dinner as a treat. Reminded myself why I don’t make one from scratch very often. Such a faff. (Especially when I spectacularly knock the cheese sauce spoon out of the pan so it spins in the air festooning sauce all over the front of the cooker, drawers and all across the floor - where the spoon skidded on landing. Of course. Just cleaned that up and forgot to cover butter softening in microwave ready for garlic bread. Clean microwave!)

Lasagne was delicious. Reminded myself why I SHOULD make it more often. It made 4 portions, though so there’s some in the freezer that we can enjoy at a later date without the faff!

Absolutely chucking it down tonight. Been a bit drizzly on and off all day today, but I got some gardening (wilderness taming) done and walked to docs and back without getting wet. Thought my knee was better, but it didn’t like the hill back down from the surgery to my house!! :expressionless:

aaaaah so sorry JCJ, meant to wish you all the best yesterday:smileyembarrassed:, fingers crossed speedy and good results, big hugs.

Think my marbles have gone walk-about yet again…

Went to supermarket with GS today, gosh he was soooooooo well behaved, gave him a list and a pen and we did our shopping:smileyhappy:!

Just happened to pass the shop that does the tasty doughnuts on the way home and my chariot just veered inexplicably to the right, just so happens that is in the direction of shop, can you believe it??? sooooooooooooo choc doughnuts in the shed xx

Tasty doughnuts, if I had a chariot it would have veered too.  But…  chocolate doughnuts… no, custard doughnuts…no, apple doughnuts…no, iced doughnuts…no, doughnuts just ought to be JAM!!  So I’ll leave them in the shed for everyone else to gorge on.  Not that I’m suggesting you are all greedy or anything :smileyhappy.

Rained all day yesterday and couldn’t get off the CBA to go to school but I’ve been today and it was not as I left it!   So a teacher has been in to do whatever teacher’s do and fortunately only made a small mess. I am doing quite well I’ve got two classrooms thoroughly cleaned so am on schedule.

Daughter came today with GD’s, 12 yr old is on a mission, she wants a new shelving unit in her bedroom, parents can’t see what is wrong with the old one.  They’ve told her to buy it herself, she already has half the money (she’s a saver!) but needs to raise the rest.  She earns money for jobs at home.  She’s put notices through the doors of her near neighbours offering to wash their cars and today she has washed mine.  Cost me £10 but it really did need doing and she actually made a really good job of it.  I had to do the roof though as she couldn’t reach. I know SIL/Daughter will help her if she gets any replies.  We’re all on board with trying to teach the work ethic!

She’s putting a notice on her gate that car washing is available, so that will get all her Mum’s friends as they call in and her Uncle tomorrow as we gather for youngest GD’s birthday. She’s 3 tomorrow, how did that happen? Where’s that time gone?

You can have as many jammy doughnuts as you wish FF:smileyhappy:!!

Aah how good is your GD? well done her for trying so hard.

And Happy Birthday to the baby who is now three, gosh time does go so quickly…

Well usual c***** day, rain and more rain, fed up of it, grrrrrrrrrrr.

Have been on the “spending” bench today, bought a couple of treats for myself, then ED sends me a picture of a pair of boots a hint for her birthday…not till Oct…but they are half price and she loves them, so they are ordered, am glad because saves me thinking of something later:smileyhappy:

JCJ, you have not posted any emotional??? content recently hahaha xx

Ah well… GD has found out that washing cars is quite hard work and has also worked out how many she will need to do to get to the required amount. Her enthusiasm is wearing off…fast!  But at least I got a clean car, as did a friend of the family.  My daughter had to finish off her own car as GD gave up halfway!  That plan may or may not be over.  A lesson learned whichever way it goes.

Youngest GD had a playdate with her toddler friends this morning, and a picnic lunch and many presents, too much excitement all round and by the time the family gathered she was altogether too tired and fractious to have birthday cake and tea.  Only one option, put her to bed, she was asleep within seconds.  Cake postponed until tomorrow but we adults and other GC had a good time, hot dogs and chat.

So glad you have treated yourself today Katy, whatever your treats are you deserve them! To have a pressie for your daughter is also a bonus. My daughter’s birthday is also in Oct. and I wish she would do something like that. All I get when I ask her what she wants is a shrug and “I dunno”.  Not really helpful.

I may be treating myself to something soon, I have a money box that Daughter gave to me three/four Cristmases ago and I’ve been saving pound coins in it. It’s nearly full but obviously of the “old” pound coins. So I will need to smash it and count it up soon.  I have decided that I am not going to put it into the bank account and let it get spent on food or the gas bill. I’m going to get something extravagant just for me.

Arrived at cottage after a slow trip up the M1 and take away fish and chips from a pub on the way. Beautifully quiet. Super views! And the “groceries” that have been left for us are unbelievable. Bread - both brown and white sliced loaves and both brown and white rolls, butter, cheese, bacon - smoked and unsmoked, crackers, chocolate biscuits, KitKats, milk, orange juice, wine, eggs - not to !ention a large homemade orange cake and all the condiments, sauces etc you could ever need. And there’s a little bowl of chocs on the table! Then I went to put the food we brought with us away in the cupboard and it’s already full of rice, pasta, sauces, tins of beans, and stuff that there’s no room for anything else!!

Won’t be shopping any time soon!! We’re here for 2 weeks but still…amazing!

I’ll just slob out on this superly comfy sofa and pig myself for 2 weeks?!

Glad you have been/will be treating yourselves. You’re worth it!!

Ooh! I can hear owls!

Ooooh that sounds lovely JCJ, you must be well pleased after the debacle of the last cottage…

Ooooh FF, what you gonna buy??

Do you have something in mind?? am excited for you hahaha!

Still stinking weather here, so fed up of rain, gets boring being drenched all the time:smileyfrustrated:.

All quiet here, just been on the “CBA” bench most of the day, maybe there again tomorrow haha xx

Your cottage and the welcome sounds just lovely.  Much better than your last experience!  Enjoy!  Have a wonderful time.

I do have something in mind Katy…a gold chain.  I have pendants, lockets etc. left to me by Mother, never bothered about them before but now I find I want to wear them and I don’t have a chain to put them on. They are worth quite a bit so I can’t/won’t put them on a cheap silver covered with gold chain.  They deserve the best and I think the piggy will give them real gold!

Weather?  No rain today but cold and then warmer and then really quite hot. Layers put on and then shed as necessary.

Enjoying the World Championships.

Oooh that’s fab FF:smileyhappy:, great idea, such a shame to have pretty things in a drawer/box, hopefully see them at MMU5 haha.

Not long to go now, think time has passed really quickly!

Am also watching, love athletics.

Another quiet day, am glad, seems to take me ages to get back a non tired me now, so am away to sit on the “CBA” bench and munch my caramel slices with a muggatea, lots in the shed xx

Looking forward to seeing your pendants on a shiny new chain, FF.

You stay dry, KTC and rest up - you’ll need all your energy for all that tea drinking/prom strolling and yabbering in 2 weeks time!!

Been a wet day, on and off, here. Spent most of the day on the reading bench but we did go into the nearest town for a supermarket - OH left his toothbrush behind last time he went away! Plonker! Fancied a pub lunch but couldn’t find anywhere in town so we ended up in another large supermarket (boy child of a dancer with bells on his shoes, waving hankies: M******** ) having a cheap, mediocre roast dinner. Back to cottage to sit on CBA bench (the indoors one this time - it was the outside one yesterday: they both have good views!)

Bacon & egg & toast for tea then we walked a mile up the road for a swift 1/2 in the pub, and back again without being rained on.

Had a weird PM on here today: thought it would be one of you with something about MMU5, or maybe someone who’d seen my posts and wanted support. No. It was from some dodgy person who wanted me to “go into business” with them. Something about saying I was her rich late father’s partner so she could come to this country. I didn’t read it properly as it was obviously nothing to do with BC and seemed extremely suspicious. I reported it. I hope they haven’t targeted others on here who might be more vulnerable or not thinking clearly! :frowning:

I’ve had the same PM, JCJ, I also reported it and deleted it.

Not done anything today except watch athletics. Some I had to record as family were over but they didn’t stay long.  I woke up with a bad headache and paracetamol didn’t help, so I was glad they left but tried hard not show it!  Headache finally went away and I’m fine now.  Just off to bed but I thought I’d nip on here first.

Remember when I was looking for a lightweight summer jacket and wasn’t willing to to pay £40?  Today a half price sale, so I snapped up that lovely jacket for £20.  Result!  The black one I got from the charity shop will do for school.  No need to wear good clothes to work :smileyhappy:

Sorted out another room at school today. It was obvious that someone had been in as displays have been changed but no mess caused, so I know who has been in…some cause mess, some don’t.  I can tell the the difference.

Must go to bank tomorrow and get some cash bags., I have a few but not enough.  The smashing of the piggy is getting closer, especially if you want to see the results at MMU5.  Poor piggy , he’s been on my dressing table for years and he’s going to be be smashed!  I’m feeling sorry for a piece of china?  I need help!

Missed all rain today woo hoo:smileyhappy:!

Your hol seems lovely and relaxing JCJ.

Hope you head is fine today FF, nothing worse…

Had a stroll around town today, bought some food, nothing exciting.

Spending time watching athletics and eating strawberries with added splash or bucket of cream:smileyhappy:!

Can’t remember if I said or not but it seems I can now drink red wine, not been able to do so for years and years due to migraines, drank some on hol, nothing…am well pleased because I did prefer red to white, you’d think I was a drinker??? hahaha favourite tipple muggatea hahaha xx

I always thought red wine gave me headaches, KTC, until my offspring pointed out to me that it’s just *cheap* red wine that does that!! I now only buy stuff that is normally closer to a tenner than a fiver - but when it’s on offer at the latter price!! Never get red wine headaches any more.

Cottage owner left us some Chillian Chardanay. Instant heartburn!! :frowning: We won’t be finishing the bottle - not even to cook with! Still, gifthorses etc?!

Not as relaxing as it could be, this holiday! OH is hard work!! He’s a bit grumpy because his PD meds make him anxious and the pain in his hip/side has reappeared. Luckily, the cottage and patio are lovely so I don’t so much mind hanging around waiting for him to want to do something.

Today, when we eventually left the house, we went for a walk in the forest. OH chose the 2 1/2 mile waymarked route which was probably too far for him. I did try to suggest the 1 1/2 mile might be more comfortable, but he wouldn’t have it. He then got stroppy as if it was *me* making him walk too far!! :frowning: He perked up when we went to the local pub for dinner though!

Now back at cottage. I’m sitting on the patio wrapped up in a fleece and a blanket. I’m pretending I’m camping! :pThe wind has finally dropped and there’s a lovely sunset, but it’s a bit nippy!

FF can you smash piggy carefully and glue him back together after?

Am on the " grrrrr" bench, tried to post earlier and didn’t work???
Words kept jumping around so gave up…think it was laptop being naughty, will hopefully post tomorrow when I ve calmed down haha x posting from phone which I hate doing x

Have had computer problems tonight. It just wouldn’t turn on but now it has, so hopefully it will be ok now. If I disappear it’s a computer problem. Not me, I’m fine.

Have half sorted out another classroom at school today , so still on track for getting everything done before MMU5.  Won’t be going there tomorrow as I am going to babysit two of Son’s children. Babysit is not the word for it really, they are 13 and 7 so I’m just the reponsible adult in the house! Expect they will be on the X box and I can read a book!

Responsible adult, FF? When did that happen? Hehehehe

Turn it off and back on again. That’s my IT technician advice to solve badly behaved laptops!! (Except possibly for those that won’t turn on!!)

OH borrowed my tablet yesterday - had to hastily close this thread - didn’t want him snooping and reading my comments about him!! Oops!

Rained all day yesterday and we didn’t leave the cottage at all. Feeling a bit stir crazy. Cloudy and windy now so hopefully we’ll go somewhere. Probably go and look at Durham seeing as how we’ve come all the way up here!

Oh my couldn’t believe my eyes??? Responsible??? Hahahaha:smileyhappy:!!

Quick thinking JCJ, closing page, fingers crossed OH is less grumpy today, just wear earphones and read your book.

Have done loads today, all housework, bed changes and IRONED, am on a roll…

But “CBA” bench is now calling, so that means will be there for rest of the day, woo hoo.

Laptop behaving nicely, just a blip, hope yours is fine now too FF xx

Excuse me???  (Gets on high horse!)  I’ll have you know I am perfectly responsible. Sniff!  I had charge of two children for three hours and they emerged unscathed, fed, watered and happy.  I survived as well.  They are good kids and were quite happy amusing themselves mostly but I did have to help 7 yr old with her colouring book.  Now…any one got a ladder so I can get off this horse?

Well done on swift closing of the thread JCJ, you wouldn’t want OH reading your comments and getting even grumpier!  Hope you got to Durham today.

Good grief Katy, you have been busy!  I haven’t even thought about housework for the last few days (too many books to read) except for the daily necessities.  Washing is beginning to pile up but it keeps raining so I keep putting it off, as I’ll never get it dry.

More school tomorrow, maybe some washing, haven’t seen the forecast…just nipped over to met office website, they give a dry day tomorrow so yes, washing.  Maybe even hoovering or dusting…or reading?

Better day today - both weather-wise and grumpy-wise. We didn’t get to Durham because it was so lovely on the patio in the sunshine and we were faffing about trying to book tickets for a big open air spectacular on Saturday that involves choosing a carpark, booking bus transfers as well as the actual tickets. Took aaaages to sort it all out, and then when it got to the checkout stage the only option available to me was “print my own tickets” as it’s too soon to post them and no box office to collect from (need them for carpark & bus anyway!). HOW?? Don’t have a printer! Did it all from my tablet! So didn’t check out. Cunning plan to go to Tourist Information Office in Durham and get them to order/print them.

Then we realised it was already gone 1pm. A bit late to start a day trip to the city, so we went to a more local town. Information office closed! Grrrr! Went for a walk in the castle park instead - much further than we expected (again!) and much rougher under foot. I had dressed in (long) shorts and sandals as I was

expecting to be walking in the city!!

Pub in the village for dinner on the way home. Yummy lasagne. Back out on the patio with my camping chair, hoodie and blanket to watch the sunset with a mugatea. OH driven car up the road to listen to the radio without destroying my peace and quiet. Bliss!!

Katy, I got your PM. Will make the necessary phone call when I get home!
