Stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND) (Part 1)

Did you manage to get off your high horse FF?? hee hee hee

What are you like? :smileyhappy:

Did you manage to get your tickets sorted JCJ?

Am on the “ouchy” bench picked up something for GS and have managed to hurt my back:smileyfrustrated:, am usually sooooooooo careful, obviously not this time. Have taken strong painkillers that I keep specially for these moments…so annoyed at myself.

Think this is the first day we have had no rain for weeks and was actually quite warm, woo hoo!

Mum is still not sorted with that tv in the clouds, despite me writing simple guide and going over and over it at least 100 times, sooooooooooooo have just written channel numbers that I know she will like, she said she was watching some programme at 2-3 am this morning, success sort of:smileyhappy: xx

Managed to get off the horse, just a swing around her neck and drop.  Good job she was a quiet well behaved horse though :smileytongue:

Washing done, hung out and now dry.  A day without rain here too. Hope your back is better tomorrow, I know how easy it is to just turn/twist wrong and AAARGH!

Got your tickets today JCJ?  Been to Durham?

Daughter dropped in for a muggatea today. Nice to see her. She didn’t stay too long, she’s just started to leave 12 yr old GD home alone for short periods.

Nope. And nope. Didn’t get tickets sorted. Didn’t go to Durham. Beautiful sunny day today and the CBA bench on the patio is just wonderful, so we didn’t leave the cottage until after a leisurely sandwich lunch on said bench, having spent the whole morning there!

Decided to go to another nearby town: Barnard Castle, because we needed bread, milk and salad stuff. Thought we’d be able to use their tourist information office to sort tickets. No joy. They couldn’t help. We need to phone to book/ask about printing problem, but haven’t found anywhere, yet, with a good enough signal.

Beautiful town though. OH found a bookshop, so that was me left to do the shopping, take it to the car, have a mugatea outside a cafe and WAIT (for what felt like HOURS) until he’d finished. Then we had a wander around by the river and castle - no long scramble or muddy walk today! followed by dinner in a pub, (2 nights in a row!! Unheard of! Such unbridled decadence?!) before driving back to the cottage via the scenic route across the moors, in the evening sunlight. Gorgeous.

It occurs to me that I might be able to get a phone signal up that road tomorrow, which is our last chance to book those tickets!!

2 high horses in the field next to our patio, FF. They were posing for OH to take photos yesterday. Made me think of you!

It was more than likely your wrangler abilities that made it easy for you to dismount FF, hahahahaha!!

JCJ, what about a library?? You can perhaps ticket print there?

Back good today, just have to watch what I get up to, was on the “spacey” bench for a while, that’s why I only take them when absolutely necessary, don’t like that feeling but needs must haha.

Also back to RAIN again today, sooooooooo boring now…

Into town then up to Mum’s, buy her munchy treats on a Fri.

Takeaway tonight and feet up, woo hoo xx

Woohoo! Durham visited. Lovely city. Very glad we used the park and ride tho’!  Tickets for tomorrow’s show purchased and printed - in the library. Thanks for your suggestion, KTC, we’d been trying to find an open library since I first realised the printing problem!  You watch it tip it down tomorrow evening. Outdoor show. No umbrellas allowed. Show never yet been cancelled due to weather!

After we sorted the tickets, we ate a sandwich lunch on a bench (from food hall of famous underwear purveyor!), wandered round the city, visiting the cathedral, castle, and  a lovely walk along the river. Fish & chips eaten off our laps (well out of boxes, actually :p) in the market Square. Back to the Park & Ride carpark just before it closed. Considering it was a wet morning and a poor forecast for the day, we had a lovely day. Carried my mac all day, didn’t have to put it on!

Saw this sign outside a coffee shop and thought of you!

Glad that your back is better Katy, you just take care now.

Rain here today as well, so glad I did the washing yesterday when it was fine.  For once, the weather forecast was right.  Been to see my 93 yr old friend today, cup of coffee (my only one of the week so it makes a change)  much chat and I cleaned her bathroom, dusted and pushed the hoover round.  Mopped the kitchen floor as milk had been spilt…  we both pretend that I’m not really doing her cleaning!  I’m just helping out. She is fiercely independent and will never admit that she needs a helping hand.

Taken some jewellery into the shop today, a chain that needs a larger fastener put on it as my arthritic fingers can no longer do it up. My coloured pearls also need re-stringing as they broke earlier this year. Hopefully they will ready for MMU5. Been to bank for cash bags , piggy will be smashed tomorrow, no chance of him being glued together, he’s a goner…but I will put some money aside to replace him.

Glad you’ve had a lovely day JCJ and so pleased that you have got the tickets sorted.

Don’t know if it’s anything to do with my last post, but cottage owner delivered an enormous ginger cake this morning - while I was still in bed! - luckily OH was up before 9:30 for the first time this holiday!!

We’ve only just finished the orange cake she left us, and barely started the sultana tea cake I made! It’s a hard life?!

Spotting with rain - literally, a few spots every so often. Still brazening it out sitting outside. I expect it’s just cranking up for a downpour as we take our (outdoor) seats for the show tonight!?

Great tickets are sorted :smileyhappy:, enjoy your show, fingers crossed rain stays away!

Gosh what a lovely place to stay, def would make you want to go back, nice person.

FF, lovely your friend is happy and independent with a little help.

How many pennies are in that little piggy??

All quiet today, no takeaway last night, going for it tonight instead, YD is off to a concert, ED is having a family day out. She has 8 more working days…woo hoo.

Have just been faffing around, still being careful, looking forward to athletics tonight xx

Poor Piggy, let’s all take a moment to reflect on the demise of Piggy.   £270 with the addition of seven new pound coins.  I’m a tad disappointed  I guessed £300 plus.  But it’s £270 I didn’t have before so… decisions to be be made.  I am determined that it’s going to be spent on something special.  Not sure it’s enough for a gold chain but I can always put a few pounds towards it.

Lazy day today, on the reading bench, thought about going to school but the book won.  Athletics tonight, family over tomorrow, break out the biscuits and other goodies.  I have a dog cookie jar, it is stuffed with goodies for the GC and there are always crisps. Nanny can be relied on to spoil the GC!!

Hope the rain has held off for you JCJ. An open air event is always a challenge.  A few years ago I got extremely wet at the Edinburg Tattoo but it was worth it!

RIPiggy. ?£270 definitely better than a poke in the eye! (As the saying goes!)

I hope you find something special to treat yourself.

The rain held off for the show - but only after we’d stood around in it for nearly 2 hours waiting to go in! So many people to bus in from various carparks around the town, that we had to get there stupidly early and it rained just as we got off the bus! Still, once we were seated (on plastic bags because the seats were wet!) there was no more rain and the show was quite spectacular. It was put together by the guy who does the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies. Hundreds of people - all volunteers - dancing and performing. Stage tricks, waterfalls, pyrotechnics, an incredible amount of “How the … did they do that??!” Amazing. I hated the getting out of the place at the end tho’. Thousands of people all walking in the same direction. People! Urgh! However, once we were on the bus it was fine, and because several carparks were used (and only a double decker bus load could arrive at any one time!) we didn’t have horrible traffic congestion to contend with.  All in all, worth the hassle to get the tickets, but I’ve enjoyed a day away from the madding crowds today!!

Be careful with that back, KTC. What are we like? Do we have another link here? Fragile backs and BC?? :stuck_out_tongue: Oh no. It’s fragile backs and being human! Lol

There’s a duck in the field by our cottage quacking a very comical song. It sounds like it’s got a frog in its throat. Perhaps it has - literally!!

Woweeeeeeeee FF, You can really treat yourself:smileyhappy:, how good is that??

Glad your show went well and you didn’t get soaked, was FF doing her thing?

Sleepyhead day yesterday, felt tired and woke up 4 hours later, WHAT??

Back still playing games, grrrrrrrrrrr, nothing much I can do about it:smileyfrustrated:.

Pouring here, contemplating going out but if it continues, will cancel and make do. Been a c***** summer.

One week today till I commence my travels can you believe it?

My doesn’t time go quickly? Am excited already…xx

Hehehe! Cunning plan! :stuck_out_tongue: I have created a guest account on my tablet for OH and password protected my account so he won’t “accidentally” read this thread! Phew!

Cloudy, cool day today. Glad we’re re not in the tent because it’s quite windy (as am I: too many pub meals and too much cake??!)

Yesterday, we had a Sunday roast at a local cafe. Very nice, for the price, (only £6:75 each) and friendly service. Delicious looking desserts so I said, even though I was quite full, I’d share one with OH. However, foolishly, he sent me up to the counter to choose and I *accidentally* ordered the apple pie  & ice-cream AND a portion of cheesecake. We shared both. They were yummy. Serves me right that I’m suffering?!

I’ve been daughter’s chauffeuse for the last two days. Her car was in the garage last Friday for a new cam belt and water pump and when she set out for my house yesterday she had all sorts of warning lights on the dashboard.  So Son picked her up and we all went to the car boot sale…that was an awful lot of walking and not much buying, I found a book for 50p and bought a cup of tea for 60p.  That was my total expenditure but I wish I’d had a pedometer on!

Today I found daughter and GD’s at my house when I got back from school (she has a key and a standing invitation) car had been dropped off at garage and she was waiting for news.  No news, so I gave her a lift home . News came later, car is fixed so I will be picking her up early tomorrow am. to collect it.

School?  I had the feeling that displays in one of the classrooms would be taken down, so I hadn’t done too much in there… today I found they’d all been torn down and it’s a real mess but I can see it’s not yet finished so I’m leaving it. There is stuff all over the floor and the tables so I’ll wait until that’s all gone.  So  I washed down paintwork, thoroughly cleaned chairs (there’s a big difference between a wipe in term time and a good scrub in the holidays) All in all I’m getting there.

MMU5, next week…eek…am starting to think…what will I wear?  Does it need washing?  Need to excavate the suitcase from the piles of books it’s under. I need to get organised and that’s not my forte.

Mmmm wrote a big long blah, blah last night, wifi went off unknown to me and it all disappeared apart from 2 lines, post was reasonably amusing, couldn’t bring myself to rewrite grrrrrrrrrrr:smileyfrustrated:

Am quiet just now, have read 2, yes, 2 books in the last week, must be getting back on track haha, can’t beat you FF, 14 a week??

Have sorted things for MMU5 only toiletries to gather together, ah well, you know what I’m like…xx

Xmas presents nearly all done hee hee xx

Haha, Katy, I was going to ask if you’d packed yet, but you beat me to it! :stuck_out_tongue:

OH has announced that he doesn’t want to go home via the motorway on Friday (only sensible route!) but has sweetened the blow by suggesting we visit the East coast of Yorks - where we spent many a family holiday - and stop overnight in Bridlington at a B&B. It makes the journey MUCH longer, and, of course necessitates traveling on a Saturday (after all my efforts to avoid that!! Grrrr!) but it will avoid the queues for the roadworks on the M1 It also means I’ll have even less time to unpack, wash, iron and repack for MMU5. So who knows what I’ll turn up in! May have to be the ball gown!

No rain today. Cloudy, sunny spells and very breezy. But this barn conversion isn’t going to collapse on us - or blow away!

Went to school today (had to talk to myself sternly to get off the CBA bench) and the problem classroom has been cleared!  Hooray!.  Outgoing teacher had tidied up and hoovered, so I got stuck in and now it’s finished. I will finish the offices tomorrow, the annex on Friday and that will be me done.  Two weeks holiday.

Haircut tomorrow, just to tidy me up for Norecambe, I have unearthed the suitcase from the layers of books and have had a good look at my second bedroom/library/storeroom.  It needs a serious sort out/tidy up/clean. A job for the week after next.

Daughter’s car has a fault with the throttle, garage advised it may well settle down and right itself, she has to keep an eye on it, if it happens again pull over turn engine off then restart.  If it keeps on doing it it’s a £600 fix but no one in their right mind spends that sort of money when it might be ok.

Enjoy Bridlington JCJ, I have a photograph of me on the sea front there with my parents, when I was 2/3 yrs old.  I haven’t been back since!

Katy, how very dare you mention that end of year celebration!

An extra days holiday JCJ, can’t be bad, even better you will be in a B&B, woo hoo!!

Ball gowns, neon lurex jumpsuits/bodysuits and any other attire will be fine, you can actually get away with wearing lurex because of that flat tum:smileyhappy:!

Glad someone did a tidy up FF, so they should if they make a mess. 2 weeks holiday hoorah, starting in Norcambe…be careful of that mirror today…

ED’s car also needed a new throttle, she could hardly get up a hill and was driving at around 30 miles an hour (highest speed) for a couple of days. Her OH’s Dad is superly handy with cars and knows mechanics etc so he managed to get a great deal for her, she had been quoted £600 too. Let’s hope your daughters car behaves.

Have been chasing my tail all day today, well, am managing to get things done but with lots of interruptions, so sitting quietly for 5 mins with a muggatea.

Bought a new holdall in a tiny bag, you unzip and lo and behold a holdall appears out of nowhere, fabulous, will be hanging on my chariot so much easier than a little suitcase:smileyhappy:

Am going along to Mum’s shortly, it’s her birthday next week so am delivering presents early.

Then off to chippie…xx

Hope the last 2 days of cleaning go to plan, FF (go on, you know you can do it! Put the book down and get it done!) and you can enjoy 2 weeks of freedom.

Speaking of books: just finished a corker. Kindle bargain. The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. Brilliant. Harrowing, thought provoking and uplifting in equal measure.

Not sure the extra day of holiday will be such a good thing. OH slipped back into grumpy mode yesterday - probably due to thoughts about going home. :frowning: We spent the whole day at the cottage with just a short walk “around the block” on the country roads.

Today is glorious sunshine. Our last day here and he’s in a complete funk, so I’ve left him to it. Currently sitting outside village pub (that has wifi) with a 1/2 pint, 3/4 of the way around a 4 mile walk. *I’m* not going to waste the last day, especially as it’s the best weather we’ve had all fortnight!!

My day started off ok, went to school came home had lunch and found I’d run out of tea bags ( WHAT? That never happens!)  Made do with a coffee.  Then it was THAT mirror and at 2.30 got to Daughter’s to give her a hand with making a flat pack shelf and drawer unit for GD’s bedroom.

First it was a cup of tea, really needed a cup of tea, then found I wasn’t just helping with the flat pack, I was DOING the flat pack.  Ok, maybe not such a surprise.  So we started, flat pack was in the van and very heavy, we manoeuvered it into house with help of a wheelbarrow and unpacked it. Sorted out which pieces were which.  Daughter then disappeared to put on dinner and said I was invited as I would probably still be there. YAY, a free meal that I don’t have to cook. :smileyhappy:

First job…attach drawer runners to sides of unit…after quite a lot of deliberation as to which way up runners were supposed to go, we found the holes for the screws hadn’t been drilled properly so we couldn’t attach them.  We didn’t have a drill.:smileysad:  Abandoned that to await SIL’s return from work, so made up the drawers and the other bits I could do. SIL arrived home and drilled out the holes for the runners and screwed them in.

We had dinner, roast chicken etc. lovely. Back to the unit…It went well from then only took another hour to finish off.  GD put the back on herself with a little help from me so she can say that she helped to build it.

I got home at 8.45. so am on the knackered bench with the realisation that I need to buy a drill :smileyhappy:

WHAT?? No teabags and flat pack furniture, oh no worst things ever, FF hahaha!

Your GD will be superly happy now:smileyhappy:.

Hope your OH is less grumpy today JCJ, and you have a nice last evening, good you have password and all security sorted…no peeking from OH…

Went into town, meals sorted for YD, instructions written, woo hoo.

Was soaked as usual, grrrrrrrrrr, one thing, we will never run out of water up here.

Tiara polished, ready for journey. xx
