Stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND) (Part 1)

She’s a nightmare and I’m loving it!

Did you get any sleep, FF? Has Purdie got you trained yet? :). Enjoy! I hope she brings you years of happiness. (But I hate to imagine the extra noise and chaos that a kitten will inject into the family gatherings!!? Hehehe)

I was soooo tired yesterday evening. Read your posts but just couldn’t summon the energy to reply. Sat like a zombie in front of tele then went to bed. And that’s with a greatly reduced teaching commitment! Mind you, I was running around getting loads of stuff sorted at school yesterday, having swum a mile on Thursday night. I’m really noticing that 8 weeks off from swimming! It’s so much harder now. Completion of circumnavigation of Guernsey unlikely to be by October, more likely Christmas (shhh don’t say that word!) as I’m only just over half way around. Similarly, 6 weeks off from school - need to build my stamina back up!?

Will spend most of today on CBA bench to recover.

Hope you’re not suffering too much after your extra exertions, KTC? (I originally put ‘bed exertions’ but that sounds like something else entirely?! :smileyembarrassed:)

Just opened up my email on my tablet. Top item: “breast, me, 4”. Sorry, what??? I haven’t got 4, only 1 1/2!! Oh yes. That’ll be the email conversation with the screening team!

Told you I was tired. So easily confused. No marbles.

Hahaha JCJ, you do make me laugh:smileyhappy:

Hopefully you are feeling re-energised today, when you think about it you have been doing a lot!

Are you climbing the curtains along with Purdie, FF??

Cause you were phoning JCJ, it reminded me to phone about my appointments cause have not heard anything whatsoever. Found out there is at least a 30 week waiting list, WHAT??? Thought you were meant to have a 18 week process from referral to treatment? Doc’s said they would chase them but am not hopeful:smileyfrustrated:, good job I’m not worried…

Brrrrrrrrrr cold here today but sun is shining xx

12 yr old GD came over today to help me sort out my spare bedroom/library (work = money in her book)  I   don’t mind this as it reinforces the work ethic and I also treat her to many things that her Mother won’t buy for her as I do for the other GC too!  Nanny’s a soft touch sometimes.:smileyhappy:

Well…once she met the kitten, that was work out of the window for a while.  So she Purdie sat while I went to the library and local supermarket.  When have I got time to read now?  My life consists of “where are you?”  “What are you doing?”  “NO! don’t do that!”  And my back is killing me 'cos I had to move the sofa to recue her when she got stuck!

Eventually we got to work and have sorted out, thrown out, tidied and set aside many items for the charity shop.  A LOT of eldest GD’s stuff has been stored in there for the last year and it’s been next to impossible to get into it. Now the stuff has gone, we gave it a good clean. GD wanted to know what was in some of the some of the antique tins, so I showed her her great grandad’s war medals and her great great grandmother’s photo.  And other vintage items, I was SO pleased that she was interested.

Didn’t quite get finished before her Dad arrived to pick her up but I can easily do that in an hour tomorrow. Son’s family coming tomorrow to meet Purdie, she’s still very timid and loud noises or sudden movement scares her. She played with quietish GD today happily but then had had enough and hid. Three of them tommorow? I might pop her in the cat carrier and just let them look.  May line them up on the settee and sternly warn them not to move, then let her out for a little while.  Two of them are slightly special needs and will scare her to bits if not on a tight rein.

Sorry if I’m boring you all to death with Purdie talk but it’s my life at the moment :smileyhappy:

Carnival/fair night tonight in Town…it’s been absolutely teeming it down with rain.  Might have stopped a bit of the naughty behavior, usually young (too young!) teenagers getting drunk and causing anti social behavior. But it will have spoilt it for the vast majority of people.

Hope all went well with the Purdie meeting FF, with everyone behaving nicely:smileyhappy:!

Excellent, GD helping you!

We have decided to try every muggachoc place in town, till our usual place reopens, went a bit more upmarket today, was lovely slurpy slurp:smileyhappy:.

Have been into shop 3 times for my usual caramel slices and they have NONE!!  Finally asked today and they are not stocking them any longer, WHAT???

Soooooooooooo have decided to make them myself, try tomorrow, only thing is there will be sixteen according to recipe…how will I ever manage to eat them all???

Pssst I think I can do it xx

Who ate all the caramel slices? Katy did! Hehehehe. Good luck with the home made versions. Do they freeze? Will you ever have enough to left to find out?

Hope Purdie wasn’t too traumatised by the GC.

Spent the weekend mostly on the reading bench and wondered when you’ll next be able to do that, FF, without furry, purry interruptions!

GC’s visit was postponed until tonight and they were short of time so didn’t stay too long but I was surprised and impressed by their behavior.  They were all quiet and gentle. I think they’d been well warned by their parents!  Purdie was a bit scared at first but then played with GD, she’s the smallest so possibly less threatening.  They all loved her, she’s very similar to their cat, they’ve got a long haired tabby with the most glorious fluffy tail!

I’ve bought her a scratching post but she has no idea what it’s for and much prefers the sofa!  Off to the vet tomorrow, where someone will poke her and prod her and then stick a needle in her!  Poor little Purdie!

Went to work tonight told new ST about back and said I’d do what I could.  She was fine about it, I’d taken paracetamol but … tomorrow will take codeine.

I know your fury about the caramel slices Katy,  When my supermarket discontinued my favouite pizza I was raging.  Hope your homemade version is even better.

I have read a book JCJ, but it’s difficult when every so often a kitten walks across it and tries to bite the corners. One library book is going back with bite marks!  I shall deny all knowledge!

Hope vet’s visit went well, and Purdie wasn’t too traumatised, FF.

What you reading now, JCJ?

Well my caramel slices are not too successful, caramel yummy, choc yummy, but base chewy, don’t like the chewiness:smileyfrustrated:, will not be attempted again…

Had a fright this afternoon, slurping my tea, went down the wrong way as they say and was really struggling to breathe, felt as though it was going on for ages after much, choking, spluttering managed to take gulps of air, geez it was awful…not too long after that started to feel unwell tummy yucky, yes, you have guessed it another BUG!!! Only 24hours, ED had it yesterday, fingers crossed, soooooooooo do not feel like eating any caramel slices, even the good ones haha.

GD away tomorrow on her first school trip, lots of tree flying stunts, she says “will be alright Nannie, they check your harness 4 times” oh gosh…xx

Just remember, FF, like you had to with the children, the needle will stop her being poorly little Purdie!

Just done the supermarket (S*******'* sounds like a funeral - or fruits - for a pain?) shop. I saw a tub of mini caramel slices, KTC and thought of you!! Do you have that store near you?

I’ve just read Susan Calman’s Cheer Up Love - an hilarious and touching autobiography that was an interesting insight into the mind of a person who suffers with depression. Really enjoyed it, have a renewed respect for her and will be rooting for her on Strictly! I also read My Sister and Other Liars by Ruth Dugdall, which was a good read too: a sort of whodunit from the eyes of an annorexic girl. Both were “firestarter” ebook bargains. Don’t know which of the 20 or so new books on my device I will read next. There are now 116 books in the “read” folder. Wow! (Though, I’m sure you’ll be unimpressed with that, FF? You who gets through that many in a long weekend? :P)

Been there with the choking Katy, I’ve had a peanut gone the wrong way, cough, splutter, can’t breathe! Truly thought I’d had it, it was an awful experience so I feel for you. And a BUG, oh no, hope you feel better soon.

Your GD will be fine, Safety is taken to somewhat ridiculous levels these days so she will be really checked out!!  She will have the time of her life. Sorry the caramel slices didn’t work out.

Vets visit went very well, a healthy, inquisitive kitten. A tad on the skinny side but nothing to worry about (I can’t force her to eat more!).  Had her injection, was warned she might be a bit sleepy.  Came home, she slept for 6 hours!!!  I rang vets for advice, told it was ok and to ring in the morning if I wasn’t happy.  She eventually woke up and ate, drank, and played for 20 minutes and went straight back to sleep.  I wish the vet had said she’ll be totally zonked for hours then I wouldn’t have worried.  I’m right back to being a neurotic mother! She’s asleep again now!  But she has to have the injections otherwise she could be a very poorly kitten.

My back is causing me problems at school.  It’s fine while I’m at home sitting down but school…all the bending over?  Been a bit of a lick and a promise for the last two days!  Hopefully better tomorrow.

Still reading books, just removing Purdie when she curls up on them.  Not as many though as I’d rather play with her.

Yes we do but it’s a tiny little store, will have a look:smileyhappy:!

Am reading but struggling with stories, a little boring, haha.

Glad vet’s visit was fine, hope your back is behaving, FF.

Pretty kitty, Rubycat:smileyhappy:

Torrential rain almost all day here, can watch it happily from window, not venturing out until tomorrow…

The big wedding is this weekend, so have to be along at ED’s superly early, look after GC until daughter returns from make up and hair styling. GS is wearing a kilt which he was not pleased about at all, we are hoping that when he sees his Grandad and Dad wearing them, he will be fine.

Am doing GD’s hair, only tried it once and it was a little squint, will have to be perfect this time.

Have recovered from bug and choking, oh my FF, I agree it was truly awful xx

Just looked at the website for the aforementioned supermarket, KTC, to show you what I saw. It was one of those “sharing” (yeah, right?!) clear plastic tubs with lots  a of bite sized traders in. Can’t it using the search - there’s only yum yums, and chic chip cookies, but I got a “why not try” recommendation for a vacuum stubble and beard trimmer! WTF? What’s that got to do with sticky confectionery? Are they trying to tell me something? Are they spying on me through my webcam? ? :stuck_out_tongue:

Not sure you should be eating solid foods though until you learn how to eat without inhaling? Sorry, shouldn’t jest, I know it’s scary. Did you know you can do the Heimlich maneuver to yourself using the back of a dining chair? Just a little first aid tip for next time. You’re welcome!

Hope wedding goes well. Watch out for the arrival of a broomstick!

Glad that you are better now Katy.  Hope the wedding goes beautifully and that GS wears his kilt with no arguments!  Give yourself plenty of time with GD’s hair, don’t rush it and it will be fine.

Paid my speeding fine today, decided it was worth £100 to not have to drive a 150 mile round journey and sit in a classroom for six hours learning that speed kills.  Yes, I know it does but not doing 36 on a 30 road that is 6 lanes wide and has no speed signs up.  It’s taken 44 years to get the first 3 points on my licence, so I’ll presume it will take another 44 to get another three and so on…so I will be 194 years old before I’m banned from driving!

Purdie back to her normal self after the injection. Her middle name is Houdini, every time I open the door even if she’s over the other side of the room, she’s though it before me.  She shot upstairs this morning before I could catch her (so many hiding places up there) I managed to entice her within reach and grabbed her.

My back is awful, ok as long as I’m sitting doing nothing/reading/watching tv but work is a different thing. Doing my best, no one to cover me if I go off sick so I’m going in and doing the basics. It will get better, just needs time.

Just re-read previous post. To clarify: *treats* not “traders”. My tablet auto correct is completely bonkers at times! Why would you have a tub of traders to share??

Hope the wedding goes off without a hitch - (except the planned one, obviously! :D) and everyone enjoys the day.

Hope your back is improving, FF and Purdie’s not giving you too much of the runaround.

I’m on the TGI the weekend bench. Crazy week. Only 1 or 2 lunchtime supervisors (usually 4 or 5) so it’s been “all hands to the pumps” and we’ve all been doing a bit to cover for the last 2weeks (because heaven forbid they borrow some from either of our nearby academy schools??!)

Not got anything planned today, other than sitting, knitting a monkey, a couple of loads of washing and watching strictly later. Snzzzzzzzzzzzz

Suddenly I have a 12 yr old GD who keeps asking to visit me, never has before… I wonder what the attraction is?  She came to my house on Tues. Thurs. and today…and three other GC are wanting to come over tomorrow.

Get a kitten …get popular :smileyhappy:

Even the eldest GD is wanting to visit and she hasn’t been to mine for yonks !!

Back is slowly improving, housework has gone to pot, spending all my time playing with Purdie. Wish she’d learn not to play with the wires behind the tv and the piano.  Removing her from them on a regular basis.

Son and family over tomorrow…wonder who they’re really coming to see?

Hope it’s calmer this week JCJ, and did you knit your monkey?

Oh to be soooooooooo popular FF, hahaha, your back is probably playing up trying to catch Purdie from unusual places…ouchy…

I wasn’t at the wedding, was just a helper while everyone was getting ready, GS burst into tears when he had to put on his big white shirt but cheered up when he found out his kilt had a bag (sporran) attached, secret place for small cars, he looked fabulous all dressed up, took lots of pics. GD’s hair was not squint this time, 2 attempts so all ok, her Mum did a little make up on her and put a flower in her hair, she was beautiful, proud Nannie or what?? haha.

Rushed home after everyone left and crazily tidied house, unexpected visitor arriving!

Visitor gone, feet up, so tired.

That’s my favourite saying at the moment…xx

Yes. Marmaduke is finished (but I’m not letting him see the picture in the book because I don’t want him to know that his cousins all have a banana. CBA to knit the banana. It’s fiddly and I’d have to buy more yellow wool specially.

Also done some ironing, stripped my bed, dabbled a bit in the garden as it’s been a lovely weekend here, washed the car (wow!) and now getting roast beef Sunday dinner. Achieved a lot despite lots of sitting about!

Just started knitting a robin - C-word tree decoration. From a pattern I bought online and downloaded. There’s a Santa and a snowman too.

Marmaduke says hello:

Marmaduke is lovely and hello back to him.

We’ve had a rather drizzly weekend here, as I said lots of family visiting to see…me…or Purdie?  Son managed to get a cuddle with her today, he was well chuffed! I’ve been looking into pet insurance tonight, need to keep vet bills to a minimum, not bought any yet, more research needed.

Did the washing yesterday, it’s still lying wet and folded on the worktop.  Couldn’t hang it out because of the drizzle, to warm to put the heating on and put it on the radiators, maybe I’ll be able to put it out tomorrow. Really wish I’d bought a washer/dryer.  I made a mistake there.

FF, I do have a washer dryer, (No, I’m not boasting) but I very rarely use it. I have a fold away airer similar to This

that I use when it’s wet - put it in the sunlounge in the summer/spare bedroom in the winter, near the radiator. I only use the tumble dryer if the airer (and all the radiator airers) is/are full and/or I need something quickly. ES & YD dry all their washing on similar airers even though they have outdoor washing lines! The yoof of today, eh?

Sometimes, I even use the airer outside if the washing line is full! It folds away and hides behind the door when not in use.
