Stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND) (Part 1)

I had a good time at the family birthday celebrations but the meal (a carvery) was a real disappointment.  Daughter said the food at that establishment was good.  NO IT WASN’T!!  Worst meal I’ve had out in ages.  Won’t be going there again.  Unfortunately our usual place was fully booked but the company was good and the Birthday girl enjoyed herself.

Tomorrow is her actual birthday so I’ll be popping over there with card and pressies after work and more cake expected.

Your dinner sounds so much better JCJ.

Son picked me up to save me driving and then dropped me off afterwards.  I said goodbye and hurried indoors as it was so cold.  Two minutes later Son’s knocking on the door.  As he’d turned round in the parking area he’d seen that my car had a flat tyre!  OMG I’ve got a flat tyre!   Right, unload the boot, dig out the spare, thought I had one of those skinny, just get you home types but no…it’s a proper wheel.  15 minutes later Son has fixed it. Going to the garage in the morning to get the tyre mended.

So the big question now is do I get a snow day off work this week?

Aaaah that’s not good FF, nothing worse than paying for a meal that’s yuck…

Brilliant son saw flat tyre, woo hoo!

And you had a great time with family:smileyhappy:

Back to reality JCJ, hope all went well.

Snowing here, on and off at the moment, tonight is the night, am going into town later to stock up, feels cold brrrr.

Have a mystery, put my bin out, collection yesterday,  it has disappeared, WHAT???

No bin??? Will phone council shortly…

Friend that hurt her leg/foot is now back to normal so we are having a celebration, meal out at fav restaurant, will be great to catch up.

GS not well, ED had to argue with receptionist to get an appt today, really don’t know what’s going on cause we are finding it incredibly difficult to get ANY appts, is everyone ill? After 45 mins on phone an appt  miraculously appeared, really puts you off trying.

Have an appt with nurse shortly so instead of phoning am going to just stand in reception till I get an appt, long day methinks haha.

Didn’t do my one piece of ironing, will wait till there are two things xx

Been to the opticians today.  Oh dear, not good news and I left £204 pounds poorer. Right eye has deteriorated a lot in the last ten months.  Although not yet meeting the usual criteria for cataract surgery, optician thought I might get it now as my eyes are so different and offered to refer me.  OR I could get new glasses and they may cause difficulty getting used to. She was pretty sure she’d be referring me next year.

I’ve opted for the glasses (hence £204 poorer).   I’ve gone for totally wacky multi coloured frames!  Make a statement, be different…a lady that I’d been talking to while waiting said they looked good!

A little knowlege is a dangerous thing and I know that cataracts have to “ripen” before they are removed.  As mine is not yet there I’d rather wait a year and it might be there.  Also I’m a total wimp and I’ll put off anything until it’s totally necessary.

A light dusting of snow tonight, nothing much but it will freeze and be ice in the morning!  Apparently our real snow is expected on Thursday.

Surgery for cataracts is soooooooooo much better now FF, you are in and out asap. And just think of the difference it will make:smileyhappy: and next year no more £240 glasses perhaps??

Weather not good here, warnings all over the place, snow has been on and off all day, buses have stopped running, shops closed at 2pm, trains 1400 journeys cancelled, schools all closed tomorrow. We are truly wondering what’s away to hit us…

YD home safely, just waiting for ED and family to arrive back home, warnings stating “be home by 6pm”, oh dear.

Hope you are all ok xx

Stay in. Stay safe. Stay warm.

It looks like we are right on the edge of the snow here. ≤50% chance of light snow showers, apparently, but it’s flipping cold! -6° tonight with a further 7° wind chill!!! -13!!! Ouchy! It’s snowed heavily a few times today, but, bizarrely, none of it has settled for long in spite of it staying well below freezing. The snow on my car was like that artificial snow you spray on your windows at C-WORD - like teeny weeny polystyrene balls. There were 4" long icicles hanging off the door sills of my car - still there after I’d driven home!!

It may be worth having that referral, FF; knowing how long these things take, you might need it by the time you actually get your appointment?! You can always decline surgery if you are not ready at that time, but you’ll already be “in the system” for when you are ready. Colleague had her cataract done a few years ago and she said it was unpleasant for a day or two but sooo worth it - but she’s virtually blind in her other eye, so it was a “no brainer”!

Covered After School Club tonight because the usual lady still off sick. Doing it again tomorrow and meeting a friend for a cuppa and catch up, in the local garden centre, after school on Friday… Weather permitting! Busy busy week.

Looking forward to seeing the whacky frames! I bet they’ll look stunning with the tiara, ballgown, knee-highs and Doc Martin’s, not to mention the forty fleeces!?!

Light dusting of snow last night soon disappeared but I think I’m in for it tomorrow.  Amber warning and 90% chance of heavy snow and maybe some freezing rain after that.  I’m hibernating, went up to town for the essentials today now have enough in for a siege.  It was not too bad out whilst in sheltered spots but when in the wind…by heck it’s cold.

Read on the t’internet today that the cold dry air causes more static electricity in the air. This explains why, when I lifted Purdie off the mantlepiece…we both jumped :smileyhappy:

Take care everyone.

Oh my goodness it’s cold!! Not too !uch snow here really, but the biting icy wind!! It has snowed in short flurries on and off for days now without much settling (no idea where it’s all going - certainly not melting!!)  We let the kids go out to play at lunchtime but brought them in after only a few minutes because it was just tooo cold! At about 2pm it started snowing again; very fine and being blown all over the place, but starting to settle. This time it didn’t stop.

I was minding the After School Club kids again and was fretting about my journey home. Parents were contacted and earlier pick ups arranged, so I got away by 5pm instead of after half past (thought I’d seen the last child out and was free to go at 4, but another child turned up, just as I was turning off lights and checking external doors were all locked! He’d been at the after school dance class! Aaggh! “Has anyone contacted his adults”?)

Anyway, finally got away and the homeward drive was accomplished, with just a few scary moments. Not going back out there. Way too b***** cold to swim in Loch Lomond tonight - I’d need to break the ice - if I could find it under the snow??! No point in a stress-relieving swim only to terrify myself driving home?

Now got everything crossed that school will be closed tomorrow - or the roads miraculously clear.

Hope everyone is staying safe and warm.

I’m safe and warm but I’ve just opened the back door and stuck a ruler into the snow on the back doorstep…7" :smileysurprised:  Snowed steadily here from about 11 am.  Stopped at the moment but more forecast overnight.

Son wasn’t able to leave his work until about 2pm and it took him over two hours to do a 20 minute journey!  He had to abandon his car (safely in a side street) as he couldn’t get up the final hill and had to walk about a mile and a half home.  But all my family now safely in their own homes so I have relaxed and we will all just wait for better weather.  The south west is pretty much shut down, major roads closed, no buses or trains running and emergency services just begging everyone to stay at home…

School closed today and tomorrow, so I’m not going anywhere…

Also safe. Though not too warm despite heating on full and 4 layers of clothing haha, brrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Our snow has been tiny little bits not the usual big snowflakes,if we had the norm it would be about 20 feet deep as it snowed all day yesterday and is snowing at the moment.

The relief that everyone managed to get home safely was enormous, you end up being on edge most of the day, waiting. ED and children at home and YD just waiting to see if her work is open, closed yesterday.

We are assuming appt for ED will be cancelled as it’s tomorrow and more snow and disruptions are forecast.

YD’s work closed today just had word.

So another day of hibernation, brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hope you are all doing ok, seems rough where you are FF xx

I’m safe at home because school closed. The decision was made last night, then the threatened overnight snow didn’t happen, but the roads are still icy. I’m not warm because OH keeps leaving the door between the living room and the unheated hall open. Brrr! icy draughts! :frowning:

It’s a shame about the consultant appointment, Katy, especially as you’ waited so long for it! I expect there will be a backlog to get through too, once this awful weather clears. Still, probably better to wait than to have the stress of trying to get there in those conditions?

I’m off to put some more clothes on and the heating back on - (timer turns it off between 8:30 and 3)

Still safe and warm, watching the athletics on tv.  Roads down here are mostly impassable and the only people about are children and dog walkers.

Temperature set to rise tomorrow so it will all turn to slush and hopefully go away. it’s nice for a day but then it’s a pain.

Son still not able to rescue his car from where he abandoned it yesterday but it should be safe…

Yes would have been awful worrying about ED driving there, no trains or buses running to other city. Consultant is stuck in another city (not the one he’s meant to be in haha), hospital phoned her back and next appt date is in 3 weeks so not too bad.

Today was the first day we have had mail, think most of the shops are open but food shops are low on supplies, no bread, milk or fresh veg, am not bothered at the moment. Can’t get out and about because of pavements, seemingly we are to have another 6 inches of snow tonight/tomorrow, hopefully not.

Will seriously be glad when it’s over. xx

Six degrees today, raining and thawing ,roads are now slush and I’ve been told that the main roads are ok and side roads like mine, passable with care.  That’s all well and good but I’m still not venturing out. I’ve still got supplies and it’s warmer indoors.

Conservatory roof did not collapse under the weight of snow and ice.  I was slightly/very concerned about it, the upvc supports were definitely bowed under the weight! Thaw has lessened the weight so I’m sure it will be ok now.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week it’s supposed to be eight degrees so hopefully it will all go away. Son has rescued his car, all the GC have been out having fun.

My favourite picture on the local tv just has to be the one of the snow plough stuck in a ditch!

Friday was so, so cold. What terrible wind!! (and not just from me! :p)

In my last post (as opposed to THE last post? *puts trumpet away*) I complained about OH leaving the living room door open. Half an hour after typing that, I discovered something far worse. He’d gone out to the garage to read the meters for me (I input the readings, online, to energy company on 1st of every month to get a discount and to stop them overcharging!) on Thursday evening, and left the external front door slightly ajar. When I opened the curtains on the internal door to see if there was any post, I saw a letter sitting on a snow drift! The porch had filled with snow overnight! No wonder the drive was clear??! Obviously, I complained to him and he cleared it up, but later on THE SAME DAY he DID IT AGAIN. Another snow drift. :smileymad: I shut the door firmly and lifted the handle to make sure it was properly shut (UPVC door with multiple locks) but didn’t lock it. Yesterday, I came down to find him trying to warm the lock, with an electric tool (paint stripper?)  because “it’s frozen”. “No it isn’t, it’s not locked - just shut properly! Try pulling the handle down!” To which he replied “Oh sh**!” I honestly don’t know how I refrained from calling him a moron to his face!

Spent a couple of hours, yesterday, clearing snow off the drive, front pavement and back garden path as far as the bird feeders, only to look out of the window just before I went to bed and see it was white over again! That new snow has melted quite quickly today though and the older, thicker stuff is gradually disappearing too. Back to normal tomorrow, hopefully.

No dinner for OH tonight then JCJ???

He has to go down to the “cave” asap, hahaha.

No wonder you were cold a snowdrift in your home??

Seriously suffering from “cabin fever” now, no way I can GET OUT…

Snowed all morning, grrrrrrrrr, stopped now, think it maybe fine drizzle at the moment. Am hoping will be able to do something tomorrow…xx

Was just checking places to eat probably because I’m starving, and saw a menu m*******s, between 4-6 2 courses £15, 3 courses £18, def better than scones and cake haha xx

Snow nearly all gone here, it’s been 8 degrees and raining on and off.  So by lunchtime roads were all clear and I ventured out about 5pm for supplies and had no troubles on the roads.  Local small co-op looked very empty, no bread, no milk, no meat, no veg, … but they had what I needed :smileyhappy:

Lady on till told me they had no idea when their next delivery would be, nor did they know what would be on it!!   A few more days to get back to normal it seems. Sorry for all those still shovelling snow and having problems.

Decided to try supermarket today, was planning to leave around 3 thought snow may have melted some more by that time. Around 1pm received phone call saying my new sofas are arriving on Wed woo hoo!!

All excited…then started phoning around charity shops, tried several and earliest date for pick up was for Fri, oh no!!! Can’t have 4 sofas in my living room:smileyfrustrated:, went through and told YD, what am I to do??? Suddenly remembered had one to call back (engaged when I first tried ), phoned them and very nice lady says they can come tomorrow, woo hoo, massive sigh of relief, whew.

Soooooooooooo have no idea when they are coming both days so had no other option but to go into town today, up to Mums, then to supermarket, managed it all. Pavements in town and thereabouts are fine, my “bit” is awful, had to lift chariot up at certain places was ok cause it was light, started to worry how I would manage coming home with heavy shopping no way could I lift it. Worrying needlessly because cars had made a track big enough for chariot to manoeuvre successfully home!!

Received another call while in town, gas man is coming on Thurs, annual check up, so after a week of nothingness everything is happening this week…

No creme eggs fell into my basket today, instead a pack of three raspberry heavy duty ice lolly things appeared out of nowhere, am going to hide them from YD hahaha xx

Glad you managed to get out Ok, Katy. Will you be sitting on the floor tomorrow after they take your old sofas away? I hope they do bring the new ones on Wednesday, or you’ll be living all Japanese style?

Weather sooo much warmer here. My car was all iced up when I looked out of the window first thing, but by the time I got outside, armed with my spray bottle of warm water, the sun had melted it all! I got in gratefully, aware that the man across the road was having to scrape away at his car because it was in the shade.

Had to cover After School Club again tonight and the kids just amused themselves playing outside, the whole time - such a change from last time I did it, on Thursday, when they couldn’t go out at all because it was ***** freezing and throwing a blizzard and we had to ring around to get parents in early so we didn’t get stranded. What a difference!

Raining hard now and I need to go and post B-I-L’s birthday card. How long can I wait for it to stop, because I also need to shower and wash my hair - perhaps I could just take the shampoo with me to the post box and wash my hair on the way? :stuck_out_tongue:
